Yes Buy it ! I bought one last week , put it to use, Wow lots of power , easy to load string, telescoping shaft, easy to manuever , 2 speeds low and high mode, oh and you never have to bump the bottom for more line, the line feeds it self , string is alway where it should be. I bought the tool only , as I have a 4.0 battery for this string trimmer. No messing with gas , carburator etc. Strong power and does the job , takes down any brush in its way. Buy it you won't regret it!!
I think it's a little overpriced but it is quite overpriced I'm still checking I think might be better just to get the 12 year older model guy was right on the mark when I say it's a little overpriced
I have a lot of EGO products and they all work as they should. I have faith in this company and their warranty. I bought a trimmer from them in 2013 and it is still working today with no issues. I also have the hedge trimmer, pole saw, tiller, chainsaw, push mower and the zero turn. I will probably buy this trimmer sometime this year.
Love how you justified the purchase. I’ve just started a weekend gardening side hustle and went through a similar rationale, “all I need is one or two customers, etc.” 😅
I’m a believer in EGO. I got this model at Christmas and paid half of it with a gift card. I used it the first time yesterday. Works great. My old trimmer was also an EGO which I had for about 6 years or so. It was still working but I gave it away. The biggest reason I got this model was for the auto line feed. I also have an EGO blower and hedge trimmer. Great products and I’ve never had any trouble or had to replace any batteries.
If you are hoping to use other attachments you will have to purchase the 1420 multi head unit. It is the latest version of that unit and features a carbon fiber shaft. It works with older model attachments. The new carbon fiber shaft string trimmer attachment works only with the new 1420 multi head tool. Currently all string trimmer attachments for the multi head do not have the Line IQ feature which allows the user to operate continuously without sropping to adjust the line length as long as there is line in the head and power in the battery.
$300 is just about what one month's professional landscaper will be charging you. Well worth it. Soon the autoload will be standard on all the trimmers.
I bought the ego one step down because of the new technology, which also concerned me . I am glad I bought the lower priced one, which is perfect for what I use it for. I bought previously a Kolbalt hedge trimmer I am very pleased with. However, I am very glad I did not buy a kolbolt weed trimmer.
I come from a thrifty family, so typically I used to go for the cheaper options. With gardening and other tools, however, I keep finding out that all the cheap tools are eventually a waste of money. They're often just not up to the job or make it much harder to achieve a good result, or are less convenient to work quickly, etc. So, spending $50-100 more for a well designed tool from a reputable brand may end up saving you lots of time (and money, because you'll end up having to get a better tool anyway).
Great review. The bigger battery was a must for me. Just picked up this item yesterday 1/26/23. $329 on Maui. Looking forward to using it a lot. 3/16/23 update: The battery lasts about an hour on the low setting. I have used it several times on some tall thick grass and it cuts right through. Reloading the string couldn't be easier. I'm 6.3 so its extended all the way. I may get the harness to relieve some of the lower back stress it can cause when using it for an hour. Great item, glad I bought it.
@ThisNameWasTooLon April 5 2023 update. Have used it many times now. At the lower speed i can get about an hour of cutting. Cuts through everything I'm working on so no complaints about power. At high speed the battery definitely drains twice as fast but it recharges in about an hour. Loading new string is super easy too. I'm totally stoked I bought it.
I just bought it too. Well it's the ST1613 which i think is just the version we get in Europe and it doesn't have any carbon parts. I haven't used it yet so i would like to know if you have tried different shapes of lines and if so, does it feed it just fine and do they work fine with LineIQ?
Finally an excellent review that showed ALL the features of this trimmer. I just got mine and assembled it and I love it. Thank you for this great and no BS review!
I just purchased one and I'm and very satisfied with its performance.. the biggest feature is the self winding and the I don't have to drag that extinction cord around.
I just bought the trimmer last weekend and based on everything you said I would 100% agree to buy one. I enjoyed the quietness of the trimmer and the torque it produces certainly gets the job done. The feeding of the line is a bit wonky, but after watching your video I think it was more operator error than the machine. I might invest on he multicolored line and do it that way and avoid any further frustration. Thanks for the video and review!
I just got the Ego 2125sp self propelled mower and love it. I plan on picking up the combo pack of the 16” Line-IQ trimmer and their 765 CFM, 200 mph blower. I have a small yard and don’t go through a lot of gas in my lawn equipment. Buying gas, fuel additives, gas going bad before it’s all used despite the additives, my shed smelling like an Exxon plant will all be done with.
I bought the 765 (max) cfm blower and it often gets the job done. I’ve used up the 5ah battery a lot of times, esp in fall. I prefer to let batteries cool before charging so it’s an opportunity to come back and finish the next day or use my 2.5ah battery. As much as these batteries cost it’s worth • always buy a tool with battery • get the largest batteries you can (and can hold) • extend battery life with good practices I considered getting a battery mower but bought a 4-stroke gas mower instead - no issues, no drama
I’m definitely buying that!! But you should have used a real edger for that thick grass on the sidewalk, sheesh! Great video. Finally a trimmer company that is listening
This looks very nice. I bought the trimmer + blower bundle you mentioned for 300, really wish I had bought this model after seeing how incredible it is!
Thank you for this review. Your comparative criteria is perfect for me. I have been dealing with a Ryobi, which inherently is good, but I have to manually keep pulling out the line. Wasting time going over grass with not enough line is not fun! God bless
I have been using the same Echo 225srm for 10 years now and the only thing I have had to replace the bump head one. Now when I bought it it was only $125 and now it's $225.
Mine didn't last!!! I did a ton of research and was really excited about the technology. The line advance feature stopped working after 3 months of occasional use. I had to return it. I'm so sad!
On my Amazon wish list, is the EGO Power+ ST1520S 15-Inch with POWERLOAD and Carbon Fiber Split Shaft for $163.00. But doesn't come with battery or charger. I already have those from the Ego blower and chainsaw I bought. If you hate paying nearly $300 for an EGO 5 amp battery, Amazon has 5 app that fits EGO for around $68. Never had any trouble with the one I bought for a back up.
For days now I have been struggling with the decision to buy it,and I had exactly the same doubts and questions you just mentioned, is this IQ technology going to last? Is 1 battery enough for all the trimming I have to do? And the one that scares me the most, man $300 dollars my wife is going to kill me!!! So I told her this morning, Babe I have done the proper research and the good trimmers cost between $200 to $250 but there is this one that cost $300 I know it's a little bit more expensive but I think it's worth $50 dollars more then send her this video, im waiting for an approval reaction so I can run to Lowe's and buy me one.
I liked mine at first also........but the second season the auto feed didn't work......doesn't always feed when you want it to so you're trimming with 2 inch string.
I have the exact one. 4.0ah battery and line IQ. I still kept my gas echo trimmer which is a beast by the way and is way lighter than the EGO. The heavier weight was definitely felt when I picked it up and used it I was like wtf? The other thing is when I try to edge with EGO the guard is huge and I can barely see what I’m doing. I wonder how effective line IQ will be in time, I am afraid it might stop working. If it does I hope we can replace the head to their bump stop one. But all in all I’m satisfied with my purchase those were the only two negative. The positives is like u said it came with the string loaded. At least if I paid 329 for it they loaded the string lol that was a nice gesture by EGO. I wouldn’t buy EGos color coded trim line it’s more expensive than just buying other line. Just put it through the hole and even if out, then press the rapid reload button. My 4.0ah battery definitely lasts a long time more than what I need it to. I trimmed my lawn and the neighbors lawn and I still had two bars left and we have nice sized yards.
I use my trimmers every cut. But I like my aluminum handle and I bought a blower and spent 320 and got two batteries because you will need more than one.
As far as the weight, I believe all the Power Load models have the motor on the front end instead of the rear like some of their other models. Interesting to note that not all of their models have Line IQ and Power Load. In fact some of the bump feed, manual line-loading models are just as expensive but have a rear motor.
Great review. As long as the LineIQ proves itself with time this is a home run. I have an immense amount of edging with 25 raised beds of 25x4 feet each plus fencing around that. This one holds so much line I may only need to reload once per year.
I've been a lazy sack for years, and been paying landscaping crew to do all the work that I can and should be doing myself. About to load up on all new EGO products and take care of it myself. Lot of money up front, but without spending $100/month to have someone else do all the work, I'll be saving money in the long run.
@@HumblePeon2 I bought the mower and the weed wacker. Loving both of them. Especially the mower, it's so quiet and weird how there's no noise if all I want to do is return it to the garage.
It's a good device but same thing with mine 3 months and now it don't want to load the string bought warranty taking back tomorrow to get another one they are great and the string lasts a very long time. Most of time people get to close to walks n fences and that breaks the string faster the guard will help keep u from getting to close but its a great tool if the line is works but it feeds when it needs to
I went on the internet my worker took the cap off and apparently lost the spring in the middle that's why mine stopped just found out bummer lol got to order replacement so will see after I get spring
Thank you for this! We already bought it but wanted to get a quick view on things (like reloading) without going through the 5 booklets. lol...lazy I know. It has some serious cojones.....we dig it so far.
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
I'm brand new to Ego. A week ago I bought the 2024 22 inch mower with Bluetooth, yes BT lol. Got it home, unboxed to notice 1 wheel spins FREELY and the others DON'T. So, it went right back. Got another one, got it home and it did the same thing! I decided to call Ego, submitted a video and NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. I decided I was DONE with Ego. Shopped and shopped AND SHOPPED. Milwaukee has a good mower twice as cheap BUT... 2+ hours ish to charge the BATTERY? NOPE! So, back to EGO. I got my THIRD one home (mower) and... It does the same THING. One wheel spins freely. Anyways, now I'm needing a weed trimmer and not really sure if I want to go with EGO due to horrible customer service!
After one season is mildly usage my Ego cf trimmer head is going bad. It kept on eating up new lines like crazy.and it's annoying enough to cause me to start looking at other trimmer. It's powerful but heavy as well
Quick question does the line iq work without the guard installed??? A lot of people run their trimmer without the guard and how would this system perform without it?? And I wouldn’t worry about the line IQ. If it break you just change the head 🤙 I’m betting it works with centrifugal force and it is mechanical and in a the head… but if you want to make a video with lots of views just torture test the line IQ with a cement block and watch how reliable it is running true a 300 yard spool for example 🤙 cheers.
I love the Line IQ, But sometimes it’s annoying. There were a few times when trimming where it would throw out some line and it would make that noise when too much line has been released.
My experience has not been good with the Line IQ technology. It just does not work after two years. I am going back to the bump with rapid load. Let me know when they perfect the Line IQ technology because it was nice until it wasn’t.
Hello, I'm 13 years old and i've started my own lawn company and i mow 12 homes a week. I've been in the market for a new string trimmer and im done with this bumb feed crap. I know the price is a lot but would you recommend.
If you need to replace the head, what part would you look for. I've looked all over and cannot find a head that is specifically for the st1623t. I did find a head for a st1620t. Are they interchangeable?
How long while that fool load feature last plus the battery after 2 -3 years when it craps out what the battery cost? almost as much as bying a new trimmer?
I think the line IQ feature is well worth the price, my gas trimmer with the bump feed system kinda sucks, and the damn thing just won't stay running do to old gas in it, but maybe it is time to hire someone and not buy new stuff every 3 years
Liked because you said, i will pay off a part of the trimmer by making a video! LineIq seem not reliable. New trimmer this year on the power head line sta1600 don't have the feature.
I think you did very good on your video I think the IQ is a chance to break but I’m gonna guess around 6 to 7 years on that system is what my guess would be I mean ego makes pretty good high-quality parts
your comments about a failing IQ head seem overstated. With a 5 year warranty on the tool I would hope EGO backs it up with a replacement if needed even if some comments refer to 3 month longevity. I'd also like to know if a replacement bump head can be installed if it is a total bust , i.e. the IQ part. Weight seems an issue about 3 lbs more By spec for the IQ and 16 vs 15 specs.
Hey! I’m wondering about cleaning the ego 16inch wacker, once I’m done using it do you think if I quickly wash the head with a pressure washer and then use compressed air to dry it would it mess it up?
@@waltsreviews90 so I found a video where a guy swapped them out. He said it took about 5 minutes to do it. Unfortunately, he didn't show how to do it. Just said a few things, pointing how do to it. I went ahead and bought the Line IQ one.
I cut 10 lawns a week and use this trimmer for trimming and edging. I can get through 8-9 lawns before re-spooling, which is roughly the same as my Stihl FS 90r. The 4 amp hours battery lasts for about the same number of lawns.
My wife has thatvon her weedeater all that line thing does is everytime u stop and start it will eject line to me thats wasts line I think the bump head is better
Coming from an old Stihl FS55R I'd say this EGO is 20% less powerful and that is ok it just slows me down a little. Biggest thing I'm trying to work through right now is the old trimmer spun counter clockwise and the guard did not block view for edging. I can do a ton of trimming and still have 2 bars left.
I changed out most of my lawn tools with E Go about 2 months ago. Line IQ trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer, and edger. The line IQ trimmer has to be one of the most horrible trimmers I have ever used. It is horribly underpowered and in deeper grass you have to go slowly an inch at a time or it will dig in and scalp your lawn. The Line IQ flings out the cut line like a bullet. The noise it makes when the line advances had the neighbor coming over to my house to make sure I was ok. I had a piece of cut line go through my pant leg and cut my leg. The trimmer now sits in the corner of my shed gathering dust. Now the edger, even worse! It is so underpowered it has a hard time cutting and bogs down. Both my trimmer and edger have now been changed out for Stihl equipment and I couldn’t be happier. If you are going to make the mistake and buy the EGo trimmer, don’t buy the Line IQ. Bright spot, the hedge trimmer and the blower are great. Hopefully I can sell the trimmer and edger for a bargain and never look at them again.
Head gave out on mine with less than 40 hours of use. Customer service was very poor. When we finally got someone to respond they directed us to a service center located hours away. That was the closest. After calling, the service center had gone out of business 2 years prior, yet EGO apparently had no idea. The next service center was 2.5 hours away and when we called they told us 2 months at least bc they were so overwhelmed with broken units. I wish everyone the best, but i won't buy another EGO product.
Lol, one of the cons is its electric and you may forget to recharge it. Couldn't you say the bad thing about gas weedeaters is you could forget to get gas. Jeez, this weedeater has made things so idiot proof, if you need help to remember to recharge your helpless
i dont like them they are garbage heres why the head failed me it wont pull in line anymore the battery red blinking light of death on ocasion only 3 years of use.... over priced garbage

The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
are you, @geoffgarrett5622, or are you a bot?
I just ordered one 💪
It's powerful but heavy as well
Yea, those are definitely good points.
Is that dual color line discontinued? I can't find it for sale online anywhere.
Awesome video!
Yes it does work without the guard the sensor is in the head.
Well Done !!!!!
I love the Line IQ, But sometimes it’s annoying. There were a few times when trimming where it would throw out some line and it would make that noise when too much line has been released.
Great review.
My only issue with this whipper is that the head rotates the opposite direction as most string trimmer. Hard to get used too.
My experience has not been good with the Line IQ technology. It just does not work after two years. I am going back to the bump with rapid load. Let me know when they perfect the Line IQ technology because it was nice until it wasn’t.
Will line iq use more line?
Appreciate your honesty @ 10:00
Thank you.
Brother please invest in eye protection. 3:51 filled me with dread 😅
Hello,
I'm 13 years old and i've started my own lawn company and i mow 12 homes a week.
Does it a variable speed trigger?(depending how much you pull it) Or is it just one speed when you pull the trigger.
it is variable
I like features and demo. My concern is the length of it. I'm 5 feet tall. Will it be fine with the telescopic handle.
Probably not ideal for anyone under about 5'4".
I think the line IQ feature is well worth the price, my gas trimmer with the bump feed system kinda sucks, and the damn thing just won't stay running do to old gas in it, but maybe it is time to hire someone and not buy new stuff every 3 years
Ha, that's a very fair point. Feel like we all have enough chores to do as is
Liked because you said, i will pay off a part of the trimmer by making a video!
I love this one the best
Hey! I’m wondering about cleaning the ego 16inch wacker, once I’m done using it do you think if I quickly wash the head with a pressure washer and then use compressed air to dry it would it mess it up?
I’ve just been hand brushing mine clean. I don’t think you can buy just a replacement head so better safe than sorry.
What if I wanted a bump head instead of the Line IQ head, can I swap them out?
not sure how hard be to swap them but you can buy it with bump head cheaper that way.
@@waltsreviews90 so I found a video where a guy swapped them out. He said it took about 5 minutes to do it. Unfortunately, he didn't show how to do it. Just said a few things, pointing how do to it. I went ahead and bought the Line IQ one.
swap with AH1520 head, only powerload without line IQ. It takes around 1 minute to replace.
I think this line IQ is just a Constant feeding of the spool so get ready to buy double the amount of trimmer line
Thanks for the heads up.
I cut 10 lawns a week and use this trimmer for trimming and edging. I can get through 8-9 lawns before re-spooling, which is roughly the same as my Stihl FS 90r. The 4 amp hours battery lasts for about the same number of lawns.
First time I used long time friend ego trimmer I didn’t know if I like but took my chance tired it an me personally I like a lot idk bout anyone
affiliate links didn't work BTW
Good to know, thanks for the heads up.
I put my steering wheel backwards!!!😂
brought it 2 months ago, and all my tools have been replaced by EGO.
That's great to hear!
I don’t like the string is limited too short.
Auto feed malfunctioning after a year.
Just that battery will justify the price if you have other ego products.
haha. I bet it was tormenting to let your yard go long enough to demo. Great video though.
Thank you!
I wouldn't be surprised if other company's piggy back off this ego's tech.
Who has tried this without the guard?
Well, I did works great. Wear eye pro, tho
Does not work that easy!!!
WTF is that giant head on the end????
Battries dont last. Run time notlong enough. Battries cost to much.
Your not even cutting can barely tell difference
