I got one yesterday, took it out of the box, set it up, and let the battery charge while I used my lawnmowers battery since it was ready to go. Took this sucker out, and my yard looks amazing. The one thing I liked the most was I have a curb that hasn't gotten much love, so it was covered in dirt and weeds. The trimmer whacked all the dirt and foliage off and left a curb that's waiting for rain to wash off the rest. Edging with this trimmer is amazing. Even my neighbor said, "Wow, I didn't even know there was a curb there 😂 super happy with it.

Just got one and it is amazing. Everyone has things they feel are of value. Getting the job done with as little fuss and hassle as possible is of great value to me. This EGO trimmer takes a lot of fuss and hassle out of yard trimming job. You don't have to hassle with line feed and feeding new line is a breeze with the power feed. The trimmer is well balanced and powerful. Unlike a gas trimmer you don't have to deal with the constant running sound of the engine and you can turn it every witch way without worrying about fuel making it to the engine. My mowing and trimming is around 1 acre with lots of chain link fencing and concrete/brick. For my needs and application this is by far superior to others I have tried.

the first time I used mine, I was still nervous about holding it sideways for too long, because I've used nothing but 2 stroke trimmers for the past 30 years and it's hard to break old habits. I started it while holding it level, didnt want to tilt it too much, and even felt I didnt want the trimmer to stop running because part of my brain was thinking I'd have to start it again.

Hi Brett! Thank you for the review. I went and bought one last night. Used it today and I love this thing. Lots of power. Battery life was perfect for my small yard. I have plenty of battery left for the next trimming. The line IQ feature is amazing. No more messing with line issues or bump feed. And the power line load worked perfectly. Very happy so far.

Great review, very informative, and helpful. I am retiring my 15-year-old Stihl gas trimmer and replacing it with this EGO unit. We mow 2 acres of our 10 in rural Rochester, MN. Many trees, gardens, fencing, landscaping features, and a 350-foot driveway all demanding trimming. Seems this trimmer with the 4-amp hour battery will do the job. I really like the Line IQ and power load features. Field repairs with the Stihl for running out of line and occasional hard starting are challenges I hope to avoid with the EGO. We will continue to use our larger commercial grade Stihl trimmer with the saw blade for really big weeds and saplings. I have many Stihl products, and all have performed well. However, the technology is walking away from gas powered tools as evidenced by the two hybrids (one of which is a PHEV) parked in our garage. Time to move on. Thanks again.

Went to my local ACE and picked one up, read the instructions, put everything together, waited for the battery to fully charge, attached the battery, set my speed, pushed the lock forward, pulled the trigger and absolutely nothing happened, watched some videos did all the trouble shooting I could think of still nothing. And off course I did all this because by the time I did everything the support lines were closed!!! Bottom line, over $300 and I have a brick!!!!!! Very disappointed in EGO!!!!!!

I ordered this recently when Amazon had it discounted for 10% off. I used it once so far. I thought i'd mention that people will want to remove the blue protective tape that is on both blades on the guard, though be careful since that protective tape is there for a reason and those blades are sharp. My older EGO trimmer is not that old to me but it is an old basic EGO model, maybe original, so the new one's carbon fiber shaft, auto-string loader, and auto string extender "LINE IQ" features seem worth it to me. It is a little heavy, but i'm ok with it. I have the 4 Ah battery and extended the shaft and adjusted the front grip so that it has a good balance for me. It seems powerful and I only used the low setting. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review. I bought this trimmer overs a month ago after selling the older but EGO’s lightest carbon fibre trimmer due to its design was more catered towards taller people and I absolutely love the Line IQ feature which I have been missing since I sold my old cordless Black & Decker trimmer with AFS(automatic feed spool) feature four years ago. It is expansive as a kit; however, for the people who already has EGO product they should just buy the tool only which is still a great buy vs last year’s telescope model with tool only. Even though this unit is carbon fibre it is actually a hair heavier than the last year’s aluminum telescope model and spins a bit slower due to the heavier mechanics of the IQ head; however, for me the Line IQ feature actually speeds up the work flow especially when edging without the need of flipping the unit back to regular trimming position in order to be able to bump the head a few times to be sure the lines out while creating few alien crop circles aka “bald spots” along the line of the edge of a freshly cut lawn 🤯. Using the strap is a treat compared to the old metal screw down fix ring as well. I can adjust the strap to balance the unit on the fly whenever I switch to difference size of battery depending on what batteries (modified “Select Cut High Lift Dual Blade” LM2142SP can take two batteries) I am using in the lawn mower between the 4.0, 5.0,7.5 & 10.0Ah batteries so I don’t have to walk back into the house just to grab the lightest battery to do a quick trimming job. Thank you for a great review; however, I would say: sell the older unit and get this one in tools only just to have the Line IQ feature to save time and basal of bumping the trimmer head which has cause many trimmer owner’s Power Load feature to stop working (I was able to fix mine by disassemble , thorough cleaning and reassemble once) if the owner already has battery and charger.

Thanks for the review Brett. I am a commercial solo operator in Aussie land, and after using this for one day, I think I will be returning it. I have the old carbon fibre model which has not skipped a beat for two years almost daily solid use. I don't think I've used my multi tool head for the string trimmer option!! (I use it every day almost for hedge trimmer / power broom occasionally and my fav is the cultivator).
The problem I have with this after one afternoon's use ( on 5 different commercial properties) is that my line is not auto feeding out to the original 400mm as claimed by EGO. I have tried different 2.4mm line, (no longer than 4 metres as per EGO instructions) but same issue; it has to be really short before it auto feeds back out. Maybe I have a faulty head from factory? (auto load line feed worked perfectly). I will check, but your idea of fence grinding it (and see if there are small pieces) was a good one, I will try this out tomorrow on a 3 acre property. Otherwise (as one other reviewer noted) you are paying in essence for a shorter line length trimmer. Otherwise the trimmer is perfect. I got approx: 45 mins heavy weed whacking out of a brand new 5 AH battery.
The head speed is slower than the old carbon model but feels more durable, Maybe they are running this motor at 80-90% for longevity. Balance is outstanding. However the vibration is significant if the line is not evenly fed, which I experienced multiple times during the afternoon. I had to stop, reuse self retracting line feed, then wait for auto feed to do its thing to get the line even again.
This solved the vibration issue, but if you are not using up line super quickly this could be a real pain. Overall after one afternoon of approx 4hrs use I found it disappointing. (Enough to instantly consider returning). I have multiple EGO equipment, 21 self propelled mower, (Replaced under warranty after 3 months commercial use), 2x hedge trimmers & power head with multiple attachments (faultless).
Overall time is money as a contractor as you know. If you spend multiple minutes per job trying to get the auto 'IQ' feed to self extend the line to get it to the factory length, then give me a bump feed any day of the year. I also found the line would be always approx half- 1 inch from the cutter, and was pot luck whether or not it fed out to the correct length.
Anyway I'll get back to you.... Cheers from Wes.

I got this model the other day and it is just amazing as all of the videos make it seem. But there is one unadvertised feature that no one seems to notice or mention. On top of the main unit where the battery goes, the area where I usually brace my forearm to steady the trimmer is wide and flat and at the perfect angle for the forearm to rest. And since it's battery powered, it doesn't get hot like on the gas trimmers. Even other battery powered ones often have sharp, square edges to the housing in that area.

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

The bump didn't work more than half the time. We just picked up this one today. If it works as advertised the Line IQ is worth its $300 price tag in my opinion. It's also VERY nice that my wife and I no longer have to use an allen wrench to adjust the handle or length each time one of us uses it after the other.

$300 is a lot to swallow, but if you already have a battery like from another EGO tool you already have, you can save yourself $80 and get the tool only (sold as the 1620T). I already have the 650 CFM leaf blower, so coulda gone that route myself, but the leaf blower always runs out of juice close to the end of the job, so having the extra battery made sense for me. And it's waaayyy cheaper to get the battery bundled.( $80 diff w/battery vs over $200 to buy it separately)

One point I have considered in buying... I already have an EGO mower. I have found that often, if I let the yard grow out a little too much that the battery is dead before I finish the full lawn. Now if I also had this trimmer I would never come close to using a full charge in one mowing. So I could use what is left in this battery to finish up the remainder of what I didn't finish. Just a thought.

Two batteries. One to charge and one to deplete. I run my lawn service on this technique. Occasionally someone will ask me how long a battery lasts, I tell them I don't care because they're rechargeable. And if they persist, I let them know I have a couple of batteries with more than a thousand cycles on them.

You are a very very brave man to use a line trimmer while wearing a T-Shirt, short pants and no socks. Love the EGO products. They work superbly in every domestic situation I use them in. And the secret to optimum battery life is to trickle charge the batteries at least once a month with a standard EGO charger. Don't constantly hammer the batteries with the faster EGO chargers. Cheers from the Land Down Under.

@@carolebersole4025 The biggest factor you need to worry about is charging batteries when they are cold/freezing and when they are super hot. "Smart" chargers, especially with a fan should not greatly affect battery life when properly charging batteries in proper conditions. The heat from charging (faster chargers heat up battery and charger more) affects battery life mostly when batteries are cold/hot.

Love my Ego edger and thought about getting the trimmer attachment but my gas powered trimmer is still going. Not sure if the new head comes as an add on for the head unit. I like the clip for the strap as that battery gets heavy on the end after a while.

I am looking into these. Thanks for the video. EGO has a sale going on for a lot of their equipment. The sale for this one is if you get this newer model for the $300, they give you a 2.5ah battery free. They are doing the same thing for their higher end blower(765 CFM) Get the blower for $300 and get the 2.5ah battery free. Ironically, they have a deal, get this trimmer and the 765 blower as a bundle for $550, but you only get the one battery and charger in the bundle.. I am going to get them separately and spend the extra $50 to get the free battery.

If you have the EGO CS1803 18" chainsaw with the 4.0aH battery, this is a no-brainer. You get the trimmer and another 4.0aH battery that can also be used to hot swap on your chainsaw for bigger sawing jobs.

I have many Ego products that I like but not this one. Immediately returned it. I thought this trimmer would replace my 10 yr old Echo SRM-225. Not a chance. The Ego is underpowered and slow to use compared to my Echo gas trimmer. Also the line iq only lengthens to line when it gets quite short. Much better to have a bump head to lengthen the line whenever you want. Only think better is the power load feature but I fill my trimmer line in about 60 seconds so not big deal. The head holds the motor so more weight in the head. They EGO and the Echo weigh the same but the Echo feels lighter because you aren't holding the weight of the heavy head. Obviously if you only have a small area to trim you won't notice the weight but on large trim jobs you feel the weight.

Not working out for my lawn business as I’d hoped. The only flaw is the line IQ does not advance often enough as I need for effective use. When it is at the full length, it’s great, but spinning with a short line wastes my time and energy slowing me down. I mow 60 lawns per week, I can’t wait for a machine to decide to work. Any suggestions how to get a faster advance ….a smarter IQ, mine seems to have a low IQ?

How about last year's ST1524 with 5 ah battery on sale for $279?
No "String IQ tech" but, having an acre with a lot of landscaping I think perhaps the extra run time would be beneficial for me. With the 5 ah battery costing
    $150 - $250 alone, I think $279 for the ST1524 might be a deal?
    Thoughts?

I’ve had this for 2 weeks and it’s amazing really. But the line iq on mine at least is hit or miss. Although I am having a problem with the St1511t bump head system where string only comes out on one side, reloaded the string. working a tiny bit better but it seems like a issue with it. not sure if i should just return it and get the 1623. look forward to others chiming in.
