How To Change The Grease In Your DA Polisher. Does It Make it Smoother and Quieter? Let's Find Out.

- In this video I will show you how to change the grease in a polisher. We are going to test to see if it is quieter after doing so. I have always thought the machines runs smoother which they absolutely do and I have also always thought it made them quieter. I have a DB meter so we will find out the truth if it does.

Well done. When polishing it is quieter in our testing, when free spinning the difference isn’t as good.
This makes sense. Another test Brian??
@@diydetailofficial Thanks! That would make sense because I swore it made it quieter before.
Great demo. Now I know how to do mine. I appreciate you brother.
Thanks Brian. I have a couple of expensive polishers that I need to take care of and this is a great tutorial. I had seen some on our friend in PA and they are good too. Keep up the good work 👍✌️☮️
@@bstewartexecutivecarcare3797 You are welcome! I’m glad I can help
Thanks! I was just thinking mine sounded a little off.
Where'd you find those pad holders on the wall?
@@jamr0214 Youbare welcome! Those clear holders are what Griots Garage 2 inch pads come in. Edit: I should say that’s what they came in when I bought them about 5 years ago. I don’t know if they still do.
I service the grease in all my DA and rotory machines. I use Schaeffers as my work is a dealer. Plus its great stuff. Not only does it lower the sound ouput but it runs smoother in the hands.
@@ConwayLStevens It makes a big difference for sure. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the information....
@@algiordano9214 You are welcome!
Definitely going to repack them all now after seeing how little grease was in there from the factory. Glad to see you're well, Brian!
@@Big_Old_Dog Hey man it’s good to see you again! It makes a big difference in your machines. Thanks for checking out the video
I use the Amsoil Synthetic Multi Purpose Grease too
@@1stfrompuertorico568 It’s great grease!
I have 4 machines and have been thinking about this. It's definitely way smoother.. And the slight increase with the noise is probably due to the efficiency with the new greece. Great video Brian!!
@@404notfound..... You are correct. Thanks for watching
Brian, it's a really great instructional video. I like that you included the links to all the materials needed.
@@jayz313 Thank you!
That was awesome man! Love the myth debunking on this. I still will change the grease for smoothness but noise doesn’t matter to me since I wear earbuds. Great topic!
Thank you! I also always wear headphones when polishing. All these years I swore it made the machine quieter until I made this video. 😃
I updated on all my machines... Great video Fab
@@IamDetailedAF Thank you!
Great video FAB, this is great. You inspired me months ago on this and I upgraded the grease in all of my machines with AMS oil grease and it definitely made things feel and sound better. Good work!
@@FredShramovich Thanks Fred!
Nice instructional video. I did this with 1 of my polishers (harbor freight model) I thought if made it smoother and quieter. There was very little grease in there when I opened it up
@@luketuttle1096 Thank you! I have found no matter the brand they all have an insufficient amount of grease.
Thanks Brian. I've been wanting to do this for some time and now I'm ready.
@@archiepezek You are welcome! Glad I can help
Great tutorial! Thank you 🙏 sharing
@@ThisOldDetailingDude Thanks!
Super helpful video. Wondering if changing the Greece in the Griots G15 polisher is similar to? Thanks !!!
@@owensamuels-h1r Thank you! Yes it will be close to the same.
Appreciate the education as well as the honesty about the findings regarding noise. Definitely sounded/looked smoother. I have some winter project work to do on all my polishers! Take care and hope you all have a Merry Christmas
@@Gary_Rigs Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too!
A very good demonstration tutorial. I often wonder how much grease to put back in. Its just too bad the manufacturers use cheap grease with exception to Griots.
@@richsmith3120 Thank you! They all skimp on the grease unfortunately.
That thing got louder!
@@DETAILSofficial Just by a little bit but it also runs smoother!
@@DETAILSofficial Also I always wear headphones when polishing so it’s really not that big of a deal.
Thanks for the video. What brand of polisher are you working on?
@@jerardgeorge7415 It’s a MaxShine 15mm
Great video. Wondering if an NLGI1 grease(thinner) would be more beneficial in a gear setting? Shinemate recommend NLGI1 although it is harder to find...
Wonder if this is a similar process to do my pc 7424xp
@@mikezz751 Most polishers are very similar.
Nice stuff always
@@1stfrompuertorico568 Thank you!
I needed this tutorial thanks. Will this work for the pixie px80 i think? The 3 inch cordless, it does not spin much at all
@@kirkwilson5900 Mkst polishers are put together pretty similar to this. I have never used that machine so I can’t answer for sure.
@FABAutomotiveDetailing I'm gonna try it. The poor thing just stalls upon even light pressure. Its not old and I don't use it much
Hey Brian, this is exactly what I needed. I have been using the M15ProII and I definitely need to do this. If I can’t get Amsoil grease. What substitute grease do you recommend? I heard some people using red lithium grease?
Thanks
@@ShineAndPreserveDetailing Awesome glad I could help! Lucas makes a good grease. I think it’s called Red N Tacky.
Have you done any of the rupes polishers? I have the cordless HLR15 and was debating this. Part of me wants to replace the grease but also a part of me just doesn't want to mess with such an expensive machine.
@@spencerb3429 I have not done any Rupes.
I was curious about the warranty for Rupes and I was surprised to find out that if you register the polisher within 30 days of sale they extended the warranty to 3 years from 1 year, not a bad deal.
I’m sure you would void the warranty if they can tell the machine was taken apart.
@ Most likely it would void the warranty
Rainy Day Equipment Maintenance. I have a TV in the Garage so a Cup of Coffee and Top Gear on. Gotta' be careful ! A lot of the time soft China Screws and a worn Phillips Screwdriver Tip is a bad mix.
@@gmans7859 Yes it is a bad combination but those Snap On screwdrivers aren’t worn out at all.
A well greased machine makes a world of difference.. especially when you are using it all day 3 feet from your ears.. screaming at 75-85 db😬.. I have been thinking about getting some low noise ceramic bearings for my green Maxshine..every little bit helps..
@@MNpicker Yes it does make a difference. I just wear headphones and listen to music when using a machine
Could it be that the machine was running faster with the new grease at speed 1, 3 and 6 which would explain the noise? It will hopefully work harder for the user with the new grease in.
@@BriFree100 It very well could be and that would make sense. Thanks for watching
Does need to be done on a rotary polisher?
@@markp1068 Yes rotary’s use grease also!
I changed the grease in my porter cable da, definitely made it smoother, thanks Brian 👍😁
@@davestewart9146 It’s amazing what good grease can do! Thanks for watching
Use brake clean. Get all the old grease out unless you are 100 PERCENT sure that the existing and new grease are compatible. Incompatible greases mixed in a gear case can destroy your expensive machinery. There are easy ways to find out what base your grease uses and then look up a compatibility chart online.
@@Mountain-Man-3000 In all my years of doing this I have never had a problem. Removing the majority of the grease is good enough. I understand what you are saying but there is no way to know what grease is in it from the Chinese factory.
Yeah that's why I suggest using brake clean and removing it all or damn near all of it. Brake clean is the magic sauce of machine cleaning!
First!!!!
