Those are all chords from the record. Marcus Miller. Incredible. However, Fed is an amazing musician though, specially as he sequenced a loop with some aux keys stuff on it, I believe during the soundcheck of this hit. Holding down key bass & pads is not easy!
Although he knows chord/scale relationships, not all Marcus' note choices can be assigned to specific scales. Marcus is more about melodies, phrasing and motive development more than scales. If you listen to phrasing you can hear he's thinking like a singer (his melodies can always be sung)
Marcus is such a beast. He's so good at slapping, but it's not a damn chop fest showing off all the skills in the world which he most definitely has. It's all functional to the song and so musical. True legend and somehow goes under appreciated to the masses here in america
No idea how an artist and Grade A bass player with such a huge influence on the bass community like Marcus Miller is not talked about outside of bass-related like a musical legend. You have Michael Jackson, Buddy Rich, Jaco Pastorius and the many different artists that Marcus Miller has played bass for. Michael Jackson being one of them, Luther Vandross being another popular name. He's a legend that goes unnoticed outside of bass players or other funk-focused musicians and it's really disappointing to see.
Marcus is an Electric Bass Virtuoso. All his clips are lessons for the masses. I can even see where he is trying to expand his voice, and his vision, and his playing.
I'm wondering if anyone is like me.... I love both Victor and Marcus equally. Victor is definitely an amazing technical, creative, and enlightened force. Marcus is just straight down dirty, in your face funk. I can kind of see their geographic location being an influence, with Victor learning the trade in his family band in Idaho, and Marcus growing up in the session jazz world on the Brooklyn streets. I like to put it like this: when I want to close my eyes and put a smile on my face, I listen to Victor, and when I want to put on a 'stank face' and head bang I listen to Marcus. Thoughts?
I personally enjoy Millers music, Victor Wooten is the epitome of a musician who took it too far and too fast, a bit like death/thrash metal killed the heavy metal world. That however takes nothing away from them as incredible musicians, just another long winded way of saying - It all comes down to taste.
This music unfolds like a picture book full of stars, where birds come spinning, spinning farandoles, cracking rattles and dancing wizards. From rounds to nursery rhymes, the arrangements display their mystery and the instruments have the roundness and brilliance of chimes 🌿
I feel so late. I've never heard of this guy before, but wow. The whole band is just right there in the pocket, pulling from way deep. Even the sax man fluttering those notes to get that almost out of time swung out feel, is perfect. Even the drummer grooving his drummer heart out. Even the guy on the keys with juicy melody, especially in the first half. A great ensemble right here.
Marcus has been on the scene since he was a teenager in the mid to late 70s...that distinctive style and legendary tone is what so many bassist try and emulate
Marcus has the coolest bass touch and approach in the world! You don`t hear meaningless fast technique.Whatever he plays is so meaningful and from the heart! He is the most pleasant Bass Player to my ears!
I really love this version, more than the studio one too. I like the irregular time and the extremely fat bass tone he uses for this masterpiece. Perfect!
Marcus Miller Bassiste légendaire depuis que j'ai commencé à l'écouter, et bercé Pour moi personnellement dans les années 80 j'avais 10 ans🤔 je me suis dit se gars là est exceptionnel wouaw 🤗😁👍🏿
We had the chance to meet him at the very end of his concert last April in Paris, backstage, and unlike some other artists, he's someone who listens and is accessible... For the record, he told us that his new album would probably be released this summer ?? Case to follow 🎸
You simply cannot learn this level of funk. No amount of theory can allow for playing this smooth. As much as i love victor and all the other players, Marcus is a king and I respect that. he’s supposed to be a nice lad too.
Marcus is a fucking legend and this is such a fine track. Working on learning that main lick when i was younger was tough and i never really got it. Might have to pick the bass back up!! That drummer is tight as fuck as well, lets be real.
Oh Yes! I VERY much see it like you!!! Marcus seems to fit in and "drive" ANY musical situation he's placed in!!!---Victor seems like an "eccentric"---A wonderful "Jimi Hendrix" type musician---VERY Musical---He has this rare "No Rules" approach to the bass guitar. It's quite wonderful!
TupolevPilot Of course. It's one of those things achievable with practice, provided you got groove. There are other things for which there's a genetic predisposition which, no matter how much you practice, you will never achieve if you're not one of those genetical freaks like wooten.
We all know Marcus killed it but let's not forget the guy on the keys. My man was playing some insanely beautiful chords!

And Alex Han on sax. Woo boy can he play!
@@jacksonbarnes5782 Was gonna say this. Power without Alex Han is just "er". Check out Han, Miller, Możdżer playing "come together"
me : what language do you speak

This really shows that you don’t need vocals to create a good song
or hair
or Lyrics
I like music with no vocal cuz sometimes words cant describe what your feeling
But you need vocals to bring a message and a larger impact to people
I'm not saying the song is not good tbh it's Ultra amazing
Damn...Drum grooves are soo sick

Chills when the Bass and sax play the same lick so amazing! love you Marcus Miller
4:58 that is one of the most amazing licks i have ever heared
Keyboard player killed it during those breaks.
The best part of this, according to my humble opinion, is not when he is extremely technical and fast, but when he is simply deep and expressive.
PietroRumenta That's where the souls of jazz and even funk live: in the pure, flowing expression called improv.
Although he knows chord/scale relationships, not all Marcus' note choices can be assigned to specific scales. Marcus is more about melodies, phrasing and motive development more than scales. If you listen to phrasing you can hear he's thinking like a singer (his melodies can always be sung)
And THAT makes his skill even MORE phenomenal!

Not me buddy! I found him because I had to know who played bass on Just The Two Of Us, one of the best lines ever by my taste.
That’s where the real talent lies: music composition.
I love him
i hope that this bass is over 18 because what he did to that thing was sexy as hell

Arguing with musician is better is stupid anyway, it's a matter of taste.
