    Buy Now from Amazon: amzn.to/2OJXQVY
    If you are looking for a graphics tablets for around $100 then the XP-Pen Deco Pro Medium is a great idea. With added features this tablet is a great addition to the studio of any illustrator, digital artist or designer.
    I was amazed by how well the Deco Pro worked with the Android phones and included the use of the dial and the use of the programmable hotkeys in their own drawing application which was very usable.
    The comfortable stylus has 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity and 60 degrees of tilt. It has 8 programmable hotkeys and two on the pen as well. The Deco Pro was awarded the 2019 Red Dot Design Award and the 2018 Good Design Award.
    The Deco Pro comes in two sizes. Small (9"x5") and medium (11"x6").
    Compatible with Windows 7/8/10, Mac OS X and above, Android 6.0 and above and works with most major creative software including Photoshop, SAI, Corel Painter, Illustrator, Clip Studio, GIMP, Medibang, Krita, Fire Alpaca, Blender and the usual applications.
    Until next time, keep on creating!
    Lawrence.

      Thanks Hermione! That means a lot. As far as I'm concerned, if you want to review tech then you should be a professional artist. There are too many professional UA-camrs pretending to be real artists. I don't mind them but their opinions aren't worth that much to me.

    @Lawrence: You created this video a year ago. So now I would like to ask some questions regarding your experience with Deco Pro medium. How durable is the writing surface? Did you see any scratch on the writing surface which are now obstructing your drawing and whats your opinion on the nib? How much one nib lasts?
    Thanks

      Unfortunately it isn't a tablet I used long term. Sorry Suni I have to be honest. As a pro' artist the longest I spent with this tablet was a month or so. It was a good tablet but I large monitor tablets because I'm a detail slave. Though my almost 30 years of tablet experience tells me that this is one of the better built tablets I've seen and the surface does feel and look more durable than 90% of the competition. I don't feel bad recommending this drawing tablet at all for long term use.

    Question: What drawing tablet model would you recommend for a community college? Buying a minimum of 21 tablets, must all be the same style and not wireless. Have a $150 to $200 max budget per tablet. Photography and Art/Graphic design classes will use. So far your reviews are the most impressive on YT. We also consider some Huion products. Thank you for all your content!

    Lawrence did you have any diver conflicts with Wacom divers already installed.....or did you not have any Wacom drivers on your laptop to begin with?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 роки тому +4

      I use a different laptop as my 'testing' device. It makes it easier for reviews and for beta-testing. So I always remove all drivers etc. I have noticed however that driver conflicts are becoming less of an issue but I still wouldn't rule them out. I have found the biggest issue to be Windows Ink.

    Hi, one real big query. I've just gotten my tablet and i tested it to get comfortable with the basics, tried to get comfortable with hand eye coordination. One big query though, the cursor isn't visible when i use it, hence i do not know what area of tablet i should draw on, because the cursor isn't visible on screen where i should be using it. Please help me 🙊
    Also, what softwares would you suggest to use with this device. I've had only worked with Adobe sketch on my galaxy phone up till now. I tried using krita on my laptop with this, however the software lags behind.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 роки тому

      The cursor not being visible is largely down to the settings in the software you are drawing in. Adobe for instance turn it off by default. You just have to turn it back on in the settings/preferences.
      I use Sketchable, Photoshop and of course Corel Painter for the bulk of my work! Have fun and thanks for watching!

    I hate the fact that you didn't show how well or bad pen tilt works . Because I bought in similar price range and specifications and pen tilt worked really bad and the company's support stole 3 weeks of my life asking me to do video tests and ignoring my messages etc.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  2 роки тому +1

      I did a detailed draw test. That's how you can see exactly how good or bad every aspect of the pen range is. This isn't a monitor tablet where you can do close up shots and even show things like parallax etc. What was the other tablet that you bought? In all honesty these are the lower end of the range and you cannot expect to have Wacom Pro Pen 2 level specs at the same costs.

    I am thinking about getting one of these. However, I have a wide monitor (21:9 aspect ratio). My understanding is that these tablets are set for a regular 1920x1080 ratio. Does anyone know how that will work? Will it only work on a section of my screen, or is there a way to make it work on all of it?

    I do not know much English. Two questions. 200 pps is felt in the work. I mostly use Photoshop, I'm afraid there will be delays? Is there a delay or the pen responds instantly? Before that, I was Wacom, will I feel the difference when I start using this tablet. Thanks

      Picking your next tablet is a very personal thing. That's why I hate tablet vs tablet reviews. It all depends on the kind of art you create and your personal preferences. You might like certain things about one tablet over another that really do make a difference. You can't let someone else pick for you. I say trust your intuition. The two main things to consider are the quality of the stylus technology and to go for the largest screen / drawing area possible. Hope that helps!

    Hello, thank you for the review. I got maybe strange question but would the tablet work if i put regular paper on the tablet and then draw? Think about recreating some older works to the digital medium (not really satisfied with the scan). If not is there any other tablet on the market which would work that way?

      I don't know if all tabs work the same way (I suspect they do) and I had an old wacom tab that I was able to do that with.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, this can work but it depends on the type and thickness of the paper you use. I much prefer taking a photo of the drawing (or a scan) and then just dropping the opacity and using that as a background on the canvas if needed. I've done that a couple of times when I've stumbled upon on sketches from my teenage years. Hope that helps!

      More than you do with Wacom Tablets but not 'lots'. Also this can be altered slightly in the settings. I always found it faster to ink by hand than by tablet but that was in the 90's. In the 2000's I did everything on the tablet. It is really an individual process that you have to decide on. It's not like the old days where everyone follows the same old structure. You just have to do what feels right.

    Hello thank you for your detailed review. Do you suggest XP-pen deco pro over more budget friendly models such as Huion HS64 ($40 price, 4 Express keys, 8192 "Pressure level", 266 pps, 6.3x4 inch working area) for the beginners? Do you think is it worth to pay more? Of course there is no need for fancy tools to learn but for a fresh starter on digital drawing do you think learning process will be more fun and less problematic in terms of precision and consistency with Deco Pro?

    I draw on my phone, but not with an external tablet. I have a Samsung Note 9 (wacom screen and pen) but still feel the need to upgrade due to the size of the screen. Idk. The decopro on my 4k desktop monitor would be an upgrade in some ways, but a downgrade in others. Decisions decisions

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 роки тому +1

      The Samsung Note phones have a Wacom pen but not screens. Samsung make their own screens. They even make screens for Apple. Even though Samsung own 10% of Wacom they do not supply screens to Wacom.
      I don't use a tablet to draw with my phone. Feels like a waste of time for me. I've got a good tablet sat on my desk which I can use or I can draw on my Note 8. Connecting a tablet to a phone is a bit of fun and good for some people but something I am not a fan of having tried it. It is a handy idea if you had to work from hospital or on holiday but then the argument for an iPad or other tablet is stronger.

    it's the MOST uncomfortable tablet i used in 13 years because the edges hurt your palm when you rest your palm or draw. I wish they extended the very nice smooth bevels the have on the metal part of the tablet, where you have the buttons, so the rest of the tablet has the same nice smooth beveled edges so it's easier on the palm.

    Solid, great review. Top quality, in depth info.
    I was already recommending their other product for quite some time, the Deco 03, as I have collected such a large number of friends and colleagues's opinions, speaking wonders about it and because everything checks in all the reviews, and how this is built and configured. Thing is, at 130$ (deco pro, if I read it right at Amazon) or 100$ the Deco 03, and still bigger in active area than Wacom Medium's, while the wacom medium (non pro! the pro is even more expensive, while both the pro and non pro XP-Pen have those pro features) is like 2x the cost or almost....
    Yep, the drawing with an Android, not impressed at first, but now I am. More than the mobile thing, because you can as well then have a cheap as$ 10" android tablet, at least capable to paint without lag in at least one or two apps, and avoid a ton of money (from expending 100$ to 300 or 400$ in an ipad, lol) to get your portable painting gear, which both together can be put in a bag. While yet getting ALSO a super solid and pro tablet for work at home in your PC in a single purchase.
    I use a Wacom XL. And if (God forbids) this one gets broken, right now (as tech evolves every minute) , my bet would be a Wacom L (that's still a jewel in quality/cost, for a professional, and has had recently a huge price fall, and I don't mean in black Friday week), and in the medium size, which is pretty a valid work horse kind of tablet size for even totally PRO level... in this size XP-Pen has literally eliminated competition. At least for the savvy, experienced user. So, It's Wacom L or XP-Pen Deco 03 or Deco Pro, the golden purchases right now, IMO. Yeah, for those who think can't live without a display tablet, a cintiq or alternative.. the XP-Pen 22E or the new 22R are imo the way to go. IF you need a display-tablet to make art ( I don't). OR... Knowing the limitations compared to the pro range (and even compared to the XP-Pen line) , and if can live with those (still, the Cintiq screens are pretty color accurate by default) , then NON PRO Cintiq range that Wacom has recently released, the Cintiq 22. And I don't recommend their 16 as I ... never... recommend a 16 display-tablet. Never. 20 -22 as minimum, IMO, from my pro experience. or if not, stay with your classic tablet for a while till u put money together (or for ever if like me, u get too used to classic tablets, hehe). That training will be liquid gold to work at companies where they wont put a cintiq for your seat for whatever the reason.

      All good points as usual 3p ;) I didn't want to mention Wacom in this review. I don't like to do that. I don't like the whole 'Wacom Alternative' label that companies like XP-Pen, Huion and others have been given by some. It's also hard to find reviews that don't mention Wacom in them. It could even be a drinking game (maybe). Anyway, I've got another video coming today/tomorrow about this tablet especially to talk more about the Android experience. I even put set-up instructions in because that can be tough and I noticed some other reviews said the dial and hotkeys didn't work. I think they had no idea how to set it up.

      @@LAWRENCEcanDRAW *TL; DR* : Yep but nope, or maybe.
       Lawrence Mann Well... yes, there's several sides of it. In one, brands (seems even among these brands, is a survival matter) that have not disappeared or lost relevance is so short time (looks like Yiynova which had about the best monitor's quality and the hardest name to pronounce, is stalled...stagnated... last news is from 2017.... :S ) owe their growth largely to the term 'alternative'. It's the number one criteria to be found in Google : people search brands whose name have heard one time or two and don't remember or don't know about, using that keyword. They used that advantage too much as to feel offended by the term, right now...
      Also, they really knew it was their entrance in a market dominated by a super premium brand with very loyal Wacom consumers. Look at the XP-Pen page... They actually even copied Wacom's site design. Even in the logo colors ! the shape , colors and design of all is that way to make your non conscious side of the brain think you are in a safety and product quality similar to Wacom's... Even both the main deploying menus and the product pages design are heavily inspired in Wacom's site.
      And don't get me wrong, I'm XP-Pen number one fan (not so much about Huion, while Huion is the one that could have had some talks - rumors say- with Wacom, to even become their white label, the cheap unbranded from Wacom or sth, after a possible fusion or acquiring. And some ppl say (mostly Huion lovers) "oh, it's because Huion offers the max quality". While it could be the opposite: XP-Pen offering crazy quality/cost deals, is the real enemy to beat, and wouldn't accept a fusion. Me... I think if that was actually a thing, it decayed. Kind of not seeing any movement in that direction for a while since the rumor was out, or the fact that Wacom started their non-pro cintiq line (as if finally trashing the Huion possibility)...And obviously, that Huion is gaining traction, so much that they would probably try their own luck. Is significant how every Wacom channel post (very unsuccessful in the comments section, but I have to give it to Wacom there for even so, not closing the comment section) about the new Cintiq line was filled with rude criticism for not selling those with higher resolution, specially the Cintiq 22, which is 1080p, while the highest end Huion is 1440p. Which is a bit stupid (besides no issue if you work at the PROPER, healthy (eyesight...) distance; A must with a 22 for other reasons, anyway), as they are comparing so the lowest end Wacom display-tablet, with the highest on Huion (ie, not with a cintiq 24 pro or a 32, lol). But is expected, as people compare per price, really. So, this constitutes one side: They have grown using the Wacom's shadow, and the word "alternative" to be found in Google. Google is an ocean, I've worked as a SEO person, and I tell u, you use any keyword that gets you there if is not too negative for your brand, as it is _that_ hard to get some good google PR.... So... that right of not been called "alternative" can't be claimed, in all fairness... But there are more sides of it. Anyway, this is not my arguing... is pointing out some aspects that are often left out in many conversations about this across all internet, are not mentioned. IE, falling (very poorly) jut in the easy slogan "wacom greedy..." or... "alternatives are crap...". Which are both a bit off, as most oversimplifications (in hardware, software, OSes, politics... ;) )
      Another thing is... facts... Context. The Wacom brand is... GLUED to the industry. Even more, glued to every field where you need a drawing device!. Is not possible to avoid the term. Is like... have you see how the dominance of Photoshop has even made it a verb? :o . Yes... a lot of people say "I had to photoshop it" . "The
      influencers tend to photoshop their image for.... ". And you hear that even in your daily TV news... Why people don't say "retouch the photo" , Or "edit the image" ? Those are used as well, but almost as much as the mentioned term. It's... authority. Is the status that Google , and/or society gives to an entity, person or thing, when realize it has been established so. In both cases, Photoshop and Wacom they have just conquered the industry. Massively. The smarter brands have guessed this and used it in their favor (which was my first paragraph point). It's not avoidable the main player in a market in any or most conversations... Will show up in every decision-helping article where the buyer, depending on budget, is gonna go from the "most trusted and expensive" till the cheapest and with more issues, but if the reviewer at least tells you it can be used with this and that negative points, and you think you can overcome those, then a large percentage of people will consider that review reliable and useful.
      I mean, is like hoping to talk about painting in the XVII century but not mentioning Velázquez or Vermeer. Of course , an article, review or etc, does not need to do so, but is not out of place if doing it , imo. In our case, any pro I know tends to only trust in Wacom. I mean those at large game companies and etc. Is us freelancers who purchase our own material (and typically lower income) who actually consider more the alternatives. So.... These brands do know that they first of all have to remove this HUGE resistance to get a purchase. In the end, they are slowly getting there due to quality of the drawing and painting experience, less issues with drivers, with refunds, build quality, etc. But in too many tests I am seeing YET how the color calibration is pretty off from default for both XP-Pen and Huion, BOTH... while Cintiq provides them with an ok color calibration from default (no strong aberrations), so that at least, the MASS of people, artists included, who don't know crap about what is a hardware color calibrator, and even less, how to properly handle it (tho it's kindda easy if following some steps) are at least not left alone under the rain, and their color is not too off. This means nothing for serious usage: One should be calibrating the color even with a Cintiq, IMO. But the kind of proved fact is that finally, these other brands, once calibrated with i1 DisplayPro, ColorMunki or whatever your choice... it gives you at least decent color, once calibrated. So is why I always recommend getting that 130 -150 bucks thingy, specially if not getting a cintiq. I work with a calibrated NEC spectraview, with a i1 Display Pro calibrator, and even being the Spectraview a NEC customized pro version for Europe which comes with color calibration from default... still so, I noticed important gains in accuracy after calibrating, and of course, I do it often (monitors' degradation).

      @@LAWRENCEcanDRAW The Android thing is a really strong point. A lot of the youth is super focused on mobiles and cheapo tablets. And a lot of them can't afford a 800$ phone from Apple, or a 1200, 1400$ tablet from them. Or even a 400$ cheapest model. Doing so, they could grab a large chunk of potential audience. If anything, for all I've mentioned, the people at XP - Pen know their deal in marketing (indeed, for certain age ranges... Win XP was the most famous Windows ever, almost as reputable as Windows 7) . And that's more important for a brand to stay on top than people think (imo, copying is not good marketing, but it often works). MS's massive user base is actually based in a well initially marketed product, indeed, while was competing back then against a superior OS. And, as we were talking about imitating the logo and pages... I remember cases brought to court, like MS - blatantly- copying the desktop trash icon from Apple ( I laughed back then, as a lot more stuff was copied. This said by a forever Windows user). Cant remember if MS had to pay (surely...) or whatever, but in the long run, it worked (like happens with Wacom, Adobe, nvidia... once gained position, hard to beat. But there we have AMD eating now intel, even with ease... so,...I'l shut up xD ) . They copied a ton of things more along their history, ie, in Vista. I was in charge of making Vista icons at a company, and Apple was WAY ahead of them also in that, MS was following the trail the best it could... But it has won in implantation, to me now in numbers: the winner is Windows despite the criticism, only need to check the massive percentage of usage in any chart of stats (of course, not if you would do it only looking at Apple dot com server stats, lol).
      Competition is essential to get back prices that allow every user, poor or rich, to actually get access to art. One single monopoly is terrible for everybody except the brand. But in the other side, it is essential the Wacom survives strong, as is the one setting the quality standards, and forcing any other brands to reach at least a similar level. We don't want this to change and only get crappy products, or, that quality products get moved to only very high end products, as all the middle and low end ones would be trying to compete adainst really cheaply built tablets and pens. Ideally, XP-Pen and Huion at least, should keep making high end products, increasing in quality, better drivers and compatibility, etc. To at least have for ever 3 brands just as good, or very close, to Wacom's quality. Don't forget money makes a lot, like getting 20 health, safety, energy, etc labs certifications. That's hugely expensive but also a warranty that your are getting a safe and durable device ! A lot of people give to this a lot of value. I do, to an extent.
      Now... is not only you (a very reliable source) ... I am hearing great things about this particular model, the XP-Pen pro... from people ZERO likely to be paid by any brand. That have their own business going on, not depending on brands payment, how it could be the case of several of the major magazines. And it's people I quite trust. Also got quite some solid feedback (actually a lot more, as has more time in the market, now) about the Deco 03, so much that I recommend it as much as I have always done with Wacom products.
      I do think these "other brands" (as you dislike it, am trying to avoid the "alternative" term.. Ooops, I said it, I said "alternative"... Ouch... again..... :D ) have won their merit and credit. These two are good enough, now. I'm sad that so excellent monitors like Yiynova have seen such a progressive fade out to end up in total stagnation (they still sell the devices, at least). Bosto and others, were often plagued with problems, just like the cheaper ones, the Veikk tablets. But it is hard to produce and market at that cost and yet provide a problem free device.
      Last but not least... well... Wacom is the king to put down by these brands... but until that'd happen, in quality or perception of it by the public, Wacom is the quality option and the others are alternatives for when not having the best budget possible. So... yup, also in that way the term is just fine, imo...
      So, I understand that you don't want to call them alternatives... I think they even used that initially, so, now can't claim anything about it... Anyway, the changes that count, happen in consumer minds, no matter what term is used. As users experiment with the tablets, by word of mouth they tell other pros or hobbyists if the tablets are good or if they break, etc. So, in the end facts and truth arises. And it seems these devices have been for a while "good enough". ;)

      I'm not saying that I don't add 'Wacom Alternative' into my search terms - I do. That is in my hashtags etc but I feel it is unfair in a review to constantly compare a product simply to the market leader. Imagine a review for a nice budget car where the reviewer keeps talking about how it's not a Porsche... not that great is it?
      Huion will never have talks with Wacom. I'm not sure where you have heard that rumor but given what I know and will not repeat... there isn't much to be gained from that conversation. If it did happen by any chance, the only people who would loose out are the artists and creatives. It would simply mean less tablets for us. Huion does a good job out there and they are number two at the moment behind Wacom with XP-Pen coming in close but the three of them drive each other to create better products for us. It's a nice circle that exists and it gets a bit better when other companies like Microsoft occasionally jump in on the game.
      I don't avoid using the Wacom brand name out of fear of offending any company or cross promoting products. My reviews are not paid ones so I can say what I like. I avoid 'Wacom alternatives' as a phase because I think it's a poor mindset to refer to other tablets as 'Alternatives'. It's that word that bothers me more. You can discuss everything needed in a full review and even make specific comparisons at times without making wide brand comparisons.
      I've found that there is a lot of rivalry in the anti-Wacom camp. Largely people who want the top Wacom but can't afford one and so become vocally outspoken against Wacom on the topic of cost. I've found Wacom users who have never tried another brand but who are so assertive in their voice that Wacom is THE best! It's why I went out of my way to review as many brands as possible. There are 'quirky' people on each side of the debate. I think that's also a part of my wanting to remove the 'Wacom alternative' idea from my channel. Most people who are looking at an XP-Pen tablet are looking at a Huion tablet in comparison and not a Wacom anyway so that would be a better brand to compare the tablets to. I certainly do get a lot of requests for specific tablet vs tablet videos!
      To me the term 'Photoshopping' is something you say to someone without any expertise when you are trying to explain photo-editing etc. I would say 'drawing tablet', 'pen tablet' or 'Wacom tablet' when trying to describe a tablet to someone who doesn't know the industry but I think most people still don't know Wacom tablets. And I'm finding that I'm having to use the iPad Pro & Pencil analogy more & more now to explain what a tablet is :(
      The reason for my wanting to make a point of this is because every review I see of an XP-Pen or Huion does mention Wacom. Every time without fail. If it were only 50% then that would be fine but you are really hard pressed to find a video that doesn't mention the brand. Imagine if every video mentioned Velázquez or Vermeer... you'd probably decide not to mention them in yours ;)
