Truly heartbreaking that the block was cracked, I was so excited for you. Seeing a car like this neglected to such an extreme always confuses me, I just can't understand how people let them get so bad. Even though you couldn't really save this car or her engine, I'm glad you made it run once more. First time it got any love in decades. Good work!
Dylan, at first I was dubious about the content of this video, but the fact that you took the engine as far as you did made it one of the best videos you’ve put out in my opinion. Mad props for taking the time and energy and work it took to fire that thing up. Super awesome work, dude. Thanks for not giving up, so many people would have quit when they found that broken valve. Keep up the good work!!

I can’t believe you even attempted starting this engine . It’s a testament of your abilities. I guess you were looking for a big block to take home. Incredible! 👍 Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, Dylan! This could be your most inspiring, fun video yet. You worked your hind end off to make that battered engine run, and you did it. I’m proud of you! Thanks as always for sharing!
I too, was emotionally jabbed when I saw that cracked and warped cylinder wall. Would have been cool to see that big block power another mopar...Oh well, hopefully you can salvage some parts from that engine. Definitely would be cool to see that car drive again, but I know that a restoration will never happen lol.
Aint nothing Impossible until u run out of cash but even in that state that it is currently in u can restore it if u give it enough time, Love and patience
@@severride0190 Yep, if that was a Hemi car, it definitely would be restored. They make new roofs, if that car had a straight roof back on it, it would look much more salvageable, even with the rust...if it still has VIN and numbers, it still might be worth it to somebody, Hemi or not.
You can weld the crack and re-bore a larger cylinder. If the crack is too severe you'd need an aftermarket block and then just swap over all the other parts.
That was inspirational, you stuck with it in the face of impossible odds! The rather rare Holley 800 cfm spreadbore you tossed away is well-worth overhauling, those were great carbs! There was a 650 version also. They were much, much better performers than the q-jets, and were a simple bolt-on. It sounds like they left the stock cam in the engine. Even so, the bolt-ons were well chosen to really improve performance of the mighty 440. Bead blast the manifold, reinstall the 800 spreadbore, and try it out. You'll be amazed.
You my friend are living the dream if this is your daily job creating content and getting old mopars back on the road my friend you have hit the jackpot of course a lot of hard work has gotten you here God bless love watching your videos never stop getting these old cars on the road or running
It'll make a nice convertible Dodge Charger though Dylan? Take a convertible mechanism from a Dodge Coronet with a convertible top for it. And it'll be a cool Charger convertible though. LOL
Would love to say yeah go do a full restoration but make it a convertible it'll be so cool. However this thing is roached out to the point of no return unless big money is dumped into it, so that's a major bummer. On another note very nicely done Dylan thanks for the video and wouldn't mind seeing some more of this car no matter what you do with it
If those two cracked areas are the only place that the block is cracked it might be repairable, but the cost of it would depend on how rare big block Chrysler blocks are getting. Maybe pull it and save it for the future. The head with the bad valve and seat should be easily repairable by a competent head shop. The guy over at pole barn garage might take on the challenge of getting this car back on the road again but for most people it’s way too far gone. I did enjoy seeing you get the engine running again.
I have been watching your channel for a couple of years and the commitment you put into this car is what keeps me coming back. You should put this on a dedicated trailer and take it to car shows just to fire it up for 5 minutes and do a smoke show. But be sure to put some Prolong or Slick50 in it for good measure. Great video Dylan.
Dylan, I was reading through the comments and honestly I would love to see you somehow someway try to put that beast back on the road. I know it would be a huge challenge and chances are probably pretty slim but that would still be bad ass. Keep up the good work buddy!
Another day or two working on the charger & it would make a perfect daily. Seriously love the tenacity & hard work just to get it to run. RESPECT from the UK! 👊👍

Despite all the block damage, that thing fired up and ran like a champ. Just a shame it ended up like that but would be an excellent source of parts for someone.
Pick that double pump spread bore back up. That is the larger of the Holley spread bores. Probably not beyond saving and a GOOD carb to have in your stash . 750 CFMs ??? I think so .
Love your adventures Dylan...you sir are quite ambitious, and optimistic...I'd love to see the internals donated to stroking a 400 in the future...awesome video sir.
Spread Bore Holley is usually 6210, intended for small block Chev to replace Auadrajets. About 650 cfm. Now mostly forgotten, they are a bargain today on Ebay or swap meets. There is a bigger version that is 800 cfm but it is harder to find. Interestingly they made spread bore Holleys to replace Thermoquads but they were all vacuum secondary carbs. No explanation why. I bought a 7006 new in the box back in the day. No complaints. It is a good carb for a iron 73 factory intake or Street Dominator intake like the one in the video.
dylan, my hats off to you ive watched alot of revivals on youtube but never have i seen a car and engine so far gone but still end up running. i think more videos on this very car down the road would be so cool, out a drive shaft in it and see if it will move!

Awesome efforts Dylan. I look forward to each video. The Chargers are the cars of my youth! Please keep going. The start up of the crushed Charger made my day!!!
Is it bad that I started laughing when the fire started? I really enjoyed this episode a lot! I was cool that you still got it running with the block cracks. I could get into a 72 Duster build, I have a lot of good memories in one of those.

From the way the oblong coolant passages are on the deck, it looks like a very late 383 or 400. I have one of the last 383's, and it's got those same passages. Also may have a cast crank.

Dylan McCool friend, just the fact that you was determined to get this crushed old Dodge Charger with the 440 big block V8 engine running again, only to fine out that the block has cracks in it ,and was still able to run, I would try to save that engine and get all the cracks fix !!!
Guess I missed the compression test. Prior to start up. That valve looked broken before you got it. What caused the lack of oil pressure, then it came back, junk in the pick up? Great job Dylan.
