Bear Attempts To Outwit An Electric Fence
Вставка

- A persistent young adult Black Bear manages to sneak past the electric fence following the lovely aroma of honey. A big fail. Returning two more times the entire episode was caught on security and trail cameras. No bears were harmed.
With the very hot weather in western Canada during the summer of 2021 the berry crop was poor and many bears were displaced by the many wildfires. We had dozens of visits from black bears that year.
The fence has been improved upon since. - Наука та технологія
I always take some peanut butter on aluminum foil and tie it to the wire... Lol. It gets their tongue every time...
Smarter than the average bear
"Hey, Boo-boo!"
Wildlife by Bean: No bears were harmed.
Bear: I beg to differ Sir.
What a tenacious teddy he was
I bearly noticed.
@@johnnyghanja I see what you did there. 😁
Bear: "I didn't want the damn honey anyhow. Too much sugar for my diet."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Need to put up a double barrier,a few feet/meters apart,so if the animal get through the first, still has to negotiate the second,by then it would have some idea about the shock, then probably get out, or suffer another electric shock,
Those bees are really lucky the bear didn't get in their home
Maybe a few more strands or a electric moat….bears are persistent.
what's an electric moat?
Okay....... bear got in....... new additions to fence coming soon. LOL
Ol' Yogi was determined to get at that honey, but got his butt ZAPPED several times. 🤣
Zapped him right in the butt, lol! They have to learn, that not everything is theirs and to leave stuff bee, lol!
I think adding that ridiculously loud alarm from the ring door bell that the owner can manually set off to deter people who are trying to break in would be useful here. A really good zap from the fence and that blaring alarm at the same time....might be a bit before that bear comes back. And if you repeat it each time, I don't think the bear would try too many times before moving on long term? Or wouldn't that be nice. Lol
If he came back and it's the same thing each time, he is gonna get comfy around there.
Usually loud noises and shouting works bc it scares them but living in Florida the bears will do whatever it takes to get food. If he's desperate enough he will be back and a loud noise and a zap will only work for so long.
@@donnalynn2 that's too true
That is what you call a real honey trap.
That bear was cool. He did get in though, and could have created a lot of havoc. These electric fences seem to work wonders at keeping bears, humans and other animals safe. 👍
Yea but the fence need more wires. Am sure there are other electric fences out there in the market that's even better than that. That fence looked cheap.
@@jerumd or needed higher voltage like 10,000 volt fence with good grounding
He was real scientific-like, Booboo!
If the bear was smart it would of read the instructions and turned the power off
Just up the amperage/power, at some point they will get the message.
The Hamm's Bear cannot live on beer alone!
He didn't just "try" he actually did. So much for flimsy electrical fences sold for campers and backpackers which are barely a couple of feet off the ground and may work temporarily until bears figure out they can jump over. Their posts are made of plastic and can be thrown to the ground after a first failed attempt, once on the ground they are easy to step over... The one shown in this video is a solid fence yet that bear wasn't stopped from getting into the enclosure. Black bears tend to be more determined than grizzlies and keep trying and coming back over and over.
You're right Paul, the fence was a little weak. That design was a recommendation from a "Bear Safe Organization" with simple T posts. It did the job for a few years from numerous bear attempts. This guy was determined but in the end the fence won. I have since rebuilt.

"Honey?"
"Yes Honey?"
"Were you able to get the honey?"
"Sorry Honey, but we've got no honey."
"Why are you walking so funny?"
"It's a shocking story Honey."
You know bears love honey!

Tape and plain wire electric fences are NOTORIOUSLY USELESS on thick furry/wooly animals, not to mention chickens. Some might get a shock on their wet nose if/when sniffing the wire, but most just walk straight through them.
The best improvements are to use closely spaced *barbed wire* (to penratrate the fur), AND to have a very high current with a short frequency sender with a very good (wet) earth stake. Add some vertical strakes to prevent push-through.
did you see that bear teleport i know i did
Good honey I guess. Suffering a bunch to get it. Silly bear.
You can hear the dogs barking in the background. They're the best .
hahaha, no electric fence can keep me out hahahaha!
Horror
Bear: Forgot to bring my tool bag, damn it.
Pretty determine bear, gotta keep an eye on those dudes.

No smackerel of honey you!
Give him some 🍯 the need to eat hehe
Forget the fencing. Just tell him to "Get"!
Batman POW... OOOF... Bear Zap ⚡ 😂
It’s not just the bees that have a sting.
Try alternating hot ground hot ground on your fence wires that way he gets the full shock.
The idea is to deter them not kill them
@@noneofyourbeeswax01 It won't kill them. It's all about wattage. The reason a 110/120V socket will kill is it usually 15 or 20 amps. An electric fence tops out at 0.007 amps, with most being around 0.003 to 0.004 amps.
For impact to health @ 15Amps/110V, we get hit with 1,000+Joules. A fence shocker peaks around 63Joules.
Fall bear meat taste mighty sweet 😋
@@wayneegli8379 You're confusing them with facts.

I seem to be be hearing Yogi Bears voice.
You should make the wire strands closer together at the bottom ,like every 5 inches.
I feel like I'm watching an episode of Yogi bear.
Keep Taiwan safe, add more amperage.
Smarter than some president 😊
What's the power of the electric fence? How many joules does it have?
Time to get rid of that bear...
Dinner time of that bear goes over my fence
Livestock guardian dogs are your best bet. Keep the fence
Need too up the voltage ⚡,,alot more for the bear 🐻,,,50,000 ,and some,,,hey boo boo,,,looks like a pick nick basket 🤣
If you did a better job on fencing, you wouldn't have to come outside and yell the monster away.

Why did I get a vision of how the U.S. govt. Serves their people ?
Human: I’m sick of bears. Raccoons! ANIMAL!! *electric wire*
Bear: challenge accepted!
Idea. Once it gets amount of “zap” should have some light blinking in your home something. Letting you know bears is trying to break in. Or camera sensor goes beeping when something in camera range.
Use wifi security cameras. Know in real time when they are there. Also have trail cameras on apiary for better videos.
What struck me was how an adult bear could so gracefully slip between two strands of wire that were maybe 20in apart while stretched. If I tried that, I'd surely get tangled and make a mess of the fence. On another note, what delivered the shock when the bear was rocking the hive? Was there a hot wire closer to the hives, or did the bear back into the main fence?
Thanks for your comment. We've had ongoing issues with bears for some time now, but roll with it. So far I've not lost a hive. Using 50,000 volts and appropriate amperage we've done well. This guy is a younger bear and has obviously had experience with electric fences. He weighed the pain of electricity versus the taste of honey and larvae.
Note his yawning; he was definitely stressed probably because this is an area patrolled by a larger older bear we see all the time who checks the fence, never gets a shock, then moves on. This young guy's pushing his luck. Know that the apiary is not square but rather five sided. The wires on the right side comes in closer to the hives. When he backed up a little he unexpectedly touched a wire. Bingo! I came close to severe damage to my hives.
The fence has since been upgraded.
When it comes to beehives I understand there’s these bigger I don’t know if they’re yellow jackets with the big bold face or bald face yellow jackets and hornets and stuff like that wanna eat the bees why not put a mesh around the hive along with your electric fence scores that the Beacon get through but the bigger insects can’t maybe that would help protect them they would have to get used to going in and out of there but I think they would this is Jim mungai from Kennerdell Pennsylvania
Thanks for commenting.
Japanese Giant Hornets are not yet endemic in BC and hopefully, according to the BC Government Apiarist, probably never will be. A healthy colony of honey bees can usually handle the other more common wasp (Yellow Jackets). In the event the larger Japanese Giant Hornet does become a problem your comment about a mesh may very well make sense much like using mouse guards at the hive entrance.
👌
Ya definitely need sum mesh to protect the bees from them new hornets that escaped saw dem on TV too they bit the heads off the bees
And it never knows when to quit, stupid thing.
Hardly stupid
It’s not a stupid thing, it’s how they are and how animals interacts in the wild , try using your brain if you have one
@@osvaldomarchan1799 whoever you are, you must be suffering from severe personal life issues that triggers you to pass your unnecessary passive aggressiveness to strangers online. People should eat more bears.
@@CloudsRainSnowIce I had black Bear. They taste like pork, they are good eating. You can also use the fat for many things like for cooking,, baking and water proofing and protecting leather.
As a farmer if u have a nuisance bear you have the right to protect your property. Either you call the DNR for a live trap. Or you dispatch the animal for a nice bear skin rug.
Hi James. Where can I get a bear spray?
Bear skin rug sounds like a better option.
Our state does not trap or relocate nuisance bears I have electric fence, motion alarm with siren, bear boards /game warden advised, or bear gets to take dirt nap, this year young adults, moms and Cubs, so far bees or still here with the chickens
I live in California. Had a huge male breaking into almost every home in the area. It took me 2 months to get a permit to dispatch of the bear. By the time I got it they went into hibernation.
Wasn't that exciting HELL NOT REALLY SUCKS
