I know its impossible to list all the notable musicians who left us in 2023 but I'll have to mention Robbie Robertson.
Yes, that one jumped out for me.
My thought exactly!
I was specifically looking for Robbie and Jeff Beck. Two of my absolute favourites lost last year. Missing Robbie broke my heart...😢
What?!!! Robbie Robertson?? Dang. I hadn’t heard. I’m also surprised to see that Denny Laine passed, as well. It’s all so sad.
@@maw1115 COMPLETELY AGREED RE: Robbie Robertson. He's such an icon 2 me. Gotta luv those Canadian musicians who keep it real (like Mr.. Robertson did).
Robbie Robertson passed this year, didn't he?
Yes, he did. I'm surprised Robbie and Ray Shulman of Gentle Giant were not mentioned. Otherwise, it's a fairly comprehensive list.
Founding member of The Moody Blues and founding member of Paul McCartney & Wings Mr. Denny Laine should be on this list. Denny was an absolutely brilliant artist. Denny passed away December 5th, 2023.
I can't believe I missed him off...
@@classicalbum I know you didn't mean to. I watch your videos all the time and they are wonderful. Thank you.
Denny Laine is in my ear and in my eye... oh wait! 😯
I've made his tribute slide the thumbnail for the video
@@classicalbum Thank you so much. Denny was a wonderful person.
So many of these passings weren't flagged on the mainstream media. Thank you for sharing this. The music world of my youth is shrinking.
Sad but true
Agree 👍 as shocked with one or two passing without knowing. Very sad as all were great music 🎶 artists & will be sorely missed RIP & thank you for the music 🎶 let the music play on
The Bachman Brothers (Robbie & Timmy) dying w/in 4 months of each other (along w/Gordon Lightfoot, Robbie Robertson & Myles Goodwyn during 2023) really sucked the life out of me. Though American-born (from Detroit, MI); I always had a massive affinity 4 Canadian musicians.
Now we know how our parents felt as they started losing their friends and relatives as they got older. Nice presentation, but I fear this list of people we know will get longer each year. On a brighter note Happy New Year to you and all classic album fans around the world.
Thank you and best regards from Vienna / Austria, Andreas
Where is Graeme Edge, drummer from the Moody Blues?
jammin with Ray in heaven
Rest in peace 🕊️ 😢 Denny Laine, Denny Laine your in my ears and in my eyes.
Звездочки на небе зажглись, мягких облачков❤ слезы катятся, душа плачет... Не будет больше таких талантов, таких шедевров...
Denny Laine, I loved him so much. I cannot believe he's gone ❤😭
😢 and Tommy Smothers😢
Quite a list .Its the guys who died in their 50,s and early 60,s that suggests they enjoyed life quite alot when younger I suspect.I write this with an absolutely knackered pancreas at the tender age of 57.Worked hard and played harder. It catches up with you I guess!
❤❤❤ Mike Nesmith❤❤❤
I’m still not over the loss of Jeff Beck. Thank you for your work. 🙏
i was like that when rory died.
Me neither.
According to David Gilmour Jeff Beck was the greatest.
I was fortunate to see Jeff Beck 15 times, including his 2022 tour with Johnny Depp. He was my all time favorite guitarist as well as musician. I am still in disbelief he has died, it hurts me as much as when my Mom died. #RIPJeffBeck #GOATGuitarist #ICON
I think it is more like you saw Jeff and Depp sat in. That kid is just the latest example of a spoiled brat with enough money to pay legitimate musicians to crash their stage!
No Robbie Robertson? The Band was one of the best bands of their time!!
An oversight on my part. I do apologise
Canadian legend Myles Goodwin also passed. Main singer, songwriter, guitar and piano of April Wine is held in higher regard than most Canadian musicians.
If you haven’t heard them, do yourself a favour.
A few of my absolute favorites-- Terry Kirkman and Gordon Lightfoot, Les Maguire. I am heartbroken that so many excellent artists have left us... RIP all of you. You deserve it.
You missed Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown and Anthony"Top"Topham of the Yardbirds. I can't imagine how. 🙏🎶🎵👀❗
Kim Simmonds died in December of 2022. I love Savoy Brown. I have every album. There are lots of them.
@@doubletime2manband I apologise double time, thanks for setting me straight. God bless Rock on 🙏🎶🎵❗👀
Rest in peace Denny🙏
Why is Robbie Robertson not on the list?
Lovely tribute. Ray Shulman from Gentle Giant would be the only one missing that I know of.
Ray Shulman was an incredible musician.
robbie robinson the band
You mean Robbie Robertson (July 5, 1943 - August 9, 2023). He was lead guitarist for Bob Dylan in the mid-late 1960s and early-mid 1970s, guitarist and songwriter with "The Band" from their inception until 1978, a solo artist and composed soundtracks for major motion pictures including Raging Bull (1980), The King of Comedy (1983), Casino (1995), Gangs of New York (2002), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Silence (2016), The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).
The thumbnail shows "Wings, Moody Blues. Everything we've learned is left to right so it should actually be "Moody Blues, Wings since he was with Moodys first
😢loved the tributes. Didn't know that Chuck Jackson had passed this year. Anyway, a great memoriam.
Denny , you are well missed ❤️. I think of all the music you would have been involved in creating makes me feel sad . But Thank you for what you left behind, I still enjoy listening to this very day RIP .❤
Australian Renee Geyer, one of the greatest soul singers ever, and LA session must have (Sting, Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan etc). Her version of Its a Mans World (1974) is definitive.
Rip Denny layne
Эпоха уходит....спасибо вам всем за то что вы были...R IP
R.I.P Elvis Presley and R.I.P Lisa Maire Presley you both will be miss 😢 💔 ❤ 💙 😔 🙏
Sad how many great artists passed. Jeff Beck was a shock. I’ll miss his music and amazing live performances. RIP to all we lost.
Just a comment, probably has no relevance whatsoever, but in general all those born before WW2 lived well into their 80's and even 90"s and those born after the war died at a much younger age?
Ray Shulman from Gentle Giant as well, March 30th 2023. Beautiful tribute.
No Tony McPhee of the Groundhogs?😢
Thank you for posting this beautiful tribute. The sounds of my youth slipping away one by one, at a greater speed each passing year.
Nice to see a comprehensive, yet succinct list of those who passed away for a change. One very important musician i would like to add... the great Tom Verlaine of Television. 😔
I got into his music a bit after he died, he was so underrated, both his work with Television and his solo stuff is amazing
How is Lisa Marie Pressley “an artist?” 😮 Which (if any) of her “albums” are considered “classic?”
Must be the ELVIS connection only is my guess. That and Michael Jackson history maybe
So many legends. Thank you for the music.
Respectively, it was RED HOLT. Also, the photo you used for him - was not him. The drummer pictured was Paul Humphrey.
Спасибо за труд. Мы будем их помнить
It's sad to say goodbye to the great souls who left us in 2023. From talented writers to cultural stars, they left a big void in our hearts. The names are special filmmakers, excellent scientists, or talented artists, they are not only famous people but also companions in this life. Their creativity, passion and love have made the world richer. Even though they are gone, these talented artists still live forever in our works and memories. They will continue to be an inspiration to the next generation and we should remember them with gratitude and respect.
Sixto Rodriguez is well worth a mention as well. :(
Background music is perfectly appropriate.
Thank you so much for posting this. So sad to see all these folks leave us. And I did not know both Bachmans left. Also, I just wanted to note that Peter "McCan's" name is spelled McCann. ❤👍
Great video. Thank you for this.
I'll just point out that it's the Alan Parsons Project, not Parson's.
Forgot Tom Verlaine of Television
He's included
Robbie Robertson was the big miss. Plus Ryuichi Sakamoto and Myles Goodwyn.
Very well done, Barry! A beautiful tribute to many wonderfully talented icons!
Умирают рокеры и близкие,это неизбежно,но и неприемлемо.Пусть им будет хорошо!9
Didn't Meatloaf die recently? He's not here. I feel like crying anyway.
Alan Arkin started out in a folk vocal group, the Tarriers and had some hit songs.
The members of "That Big Band in the Sky" seems to be increasing by the day. For all of you whose voices, instruments or mere presence gave joy to those of us still anchored here on earth, I won't say what is usually expected with a whispered rest in peace...I say, rip it up, tear it up & rock the heavens until even the stars appear to be dancing over our heads. There is no better joy than the music of angels...see ya soon old friends....❤🎶⭐😇🎸🎤👼
Sad year for music, failure year for music with all this Peso Pluma crap
Carla Bley and Rita Lee
'Where will I be when I go back home? Who will I be when I'm all alone?' - David Crosby
Gordon Lightfoot, his voice was a gift from God.
Вечная память!
Remembered forever
Thanks. It was nice that, for the most part, you showed them in their heyday; as I prefer to remember them, and as they probably preferred to be remembered.
Hope they jam together.
Angelic.
Thanks for including Geordie Walker, whose passing went under the radar a bit. A truly great original musician.
Brian Hines,...a drink to you
Scary. I'm 76
We will lose most of our heros of music over the next 20 years that defined the late 60s and early 70s which had to be the greatest period in history to be young.
Unfortunately I did not not see Wayne Shorter on this list
wonderful and sad. so much talent sadly no longer with us.
Thanks for a wonderful if sad video, it's nice to remember these great entertainers . Unfortunately one's mortality is made clear by the passing of so many of one's heroes, sometimes I feel there's a queue & I just got a lot closer to the front !! . Let's hope that this year, artists will be born that will fill the world with the same joy as these passed artists did , thanks again hope you had a great Christmas and New year. Remember people, try to fill the world with love & especially tell people you love them, because we never know when it's our time to leave the stage. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
Very moving tribute Barry. Nicely put together. Tend to forget who went over the course of the year. All the best. Dave✅✅
Calling Lisa Marie Presley an artist is a stretch, but point taken ... #RIP
Beautiful music. So sad. Thanks for posting this.
Christine McVie....of Fleetwood Mac... no mention of her.
I'm 73 years old and am seeing family, actors, singers, musicians, comedians, TV personalities and artists passing on. Cherish your life!
Fleedwoodmac’s Christine Macvie is missing.
I saw Denny Laine play at the Roundhouse in Camden, London, many, many years ago. RIP 🙏
It would be great, if you could add Jon Povey (1942 - 2023) to the list. He was a long time member of The Pretty Things and a very talented musician. The Pretty Things were founded in 1963 and their long standing career ended in 2018. R.I.P Jon!
Amen to that Robert. A similar thing happened when Phil May died during Covid Lockdown. Phil was an absolute legend and inspiration to many (Led Zep and David Bowie is all I need to name drop). Yet Phil was also totally ignored by the Press/Social media at the time of his passing. Phil was as relevant (If not more) than Pete Townsend.
Ohhhhh, nunca supe q" había fallecido bobby caldwell el año pasado, una pena, gran musico, escuchénlo,y dios lo tenga en su Reino, vuela alto bobby
Muchachos se murio Robbie Robertson!!!!
All these lovely People can playing/ singing and dancing in the greatest Orchestra in heaven.
But there music never die...
R.I.P at all🙏🕯
Jeff Foskett is missing from your list.
There might be a few. I put in the description that I apologise for any I missed
Hora de todos um dia chega
I didn't know Dwight Twilley had died - that's sad, I just gave him a shout out in a video a few weeks back so its sad he's not around to benefit from the surge in royalties and better bookings that would have followed my millions of viewers no doubt hitting him up on Spotify. Was Wayne Shorter on your list? Did I miss him. Good for you remembering Daniel Boone. "SkyDiver" is one of my secret favourites of the 70's
Tasteful and respectful. Well done, RIP to all
Nice idea for a video
Thanks, Barry, for a great and sobering video. The eternal lessons for fans:
- Do what you can to go see classic artists while they’re still around.
- Don’t assume you can catch them the next time they perform nearby.
- Do what you can to support them (buy their music and merch).
How many times is Harry Belafonte going to die?
QUE DIEU BÉNISSENT LEURS ÂMES AFIN QU'ILS OBTIENNENT LE REPOS ETERNEL.VOUS ALLEZ NOUS MANQUER.❤😢
Sadly also the great Angelo Bruschini, late of Massive Attack, occasional Blue Aeroplane and several other Bristol outfits. He was always interesting to hear.
Brother donn adams nrbq and the whole wheat horns
Al l R.I.P 😢
So many great artists. The world 🌎 is a sadder and less musical 🎼 🎶 without them. R.i.p all of you. You are making great music 🎶 🎵 in heaven 😢😢
Did not know that incomparable Robbie Robertson had crossed.Magic was what this man produced every time he sang.Heaven is a richer place. R.I.P. Robbie.
Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yellow Magic Orchestra) 1951 - 2023, age 72.
Fantastic tribute Barry. It must have taken you hours to put that together.
A nice recap of artists I knew, but wasn't familiar with their material, artists I didn't know, and artists I absolutely knew and still followed, some I didn't know had moved on!😢
Да, каждый год, постепенно уходит старое поколение старой западной музыки, но увы, такова жизнь, ибо время идёт вперёд. Никто не вечный... 😪😪😢
Theres been alot of passing the last few years. Seems the world is turning faster or we are moving around the heat source faster when really its going slower. I didnt learn guitar till i was past 45( has it been longer than 15 years already?! I was weaned on the Beatles and 2 are left. I lost 2 sons the last 2 years and a sister the year b4 that and it sux when the reaper hits so close so often. I have distinct memories of some of these( i used to listen to gary wright in mid 70s after work in a restaurant) and tina turner what an icon. From proud mary to movies, to her great 80s/90s hits. And smashmouth, i was painting in a radio studio listening to walking on the sun when that was hot., and in az when allstar was hot. Another skynard member, and david crosby, just wow and one of my alltime faves dancing in the moonlight. Gratefully i got to see april wine a couple or 3 times live, even tho they werent young n fresh, so glad i did. Rest in Peace, Godspeed, all‼️
Oi pal. where's..Tom Verlaine. Singer and Guitarist of the band "Television" why leave him out. 🫣
Someone else mentioned his omission but I saw him in the clip
а не надо было умирать...
Just turned 65 and grew up with most of these guys and girls. I knew this time would come... Not scared one bit on passing, especially as an Ex-Christian that became spiritual. The Rock that never stops!
History of Мusic.(
Lotta great musicians have died this year last three or four years have been really bad ever since Covid unbelievable the amount of people that are dying now I think more than ever
Breaks my heart for several reasons... One, WTF happened to the media that had their own agenda and ignored so many that made everyone of our lives better. And second... I feel that tightness around my own throat every year I watch these. Where have all the years gone?
Laine is Finnish name.
