I switched from ground to hammock camping years ago. Helps my back A LOT! Anyway the MSR Windburner really shines outdoors in real situations like in windy areas. You would be surprised how it performs vs Jet boil in a windy area.
Bryan, Why don't you have a rigger fabricate a holster for your Alice that will hold it barrel down? I'm sure you know some riggers. i used to fab stuff like this all the time in the loft.
Adam Knapp 2oz www.rei.com/product/829645/exped-schnozzel-pumpbag?CAWELAID=120217890000819175&cm_mmc=PLA_Google_LIA%7C404_28294%7C8296450001%7Cnone%7C20f5b282-3a51-48e1-a757-dd2543fccfc7%7Cpla-265594330940&gclid=CK-yt_-61NACFQuraQodiPcJHQ
I don't believe that particular one would work for the Klymit air pad. But, if there was one that did, it would blow it up quick but would kind of defeat the purpose of buying that particular klymit air pad.
I just got to thinking you may be referring to his Nemo pad, and that pumpbag should work with it, but I was referring to the klymit pad; to avoid any confusion.
Eagle Pack-it Specter cubes are an option for go bag organization, silnylon so water resistant (but not water proof) and light weight. The Eberlestock butt bucket might also be a solution to stowing your rifle without as much shifting as in a gunslinger pocket (and still able to access w/o doffing your pack.
I've had a Mountain Hardware sleeping bag for a long time, it's synthetic down! It's great for wet weather but the down side is synthetic down doesn't compress down like regular down does.
Couple comments... if you want to use the rubber tips on your hiking poles, do yourself a favor and go to home depot and get a couple washers that fit over the carbide tips, but inside the rubber feet. This will keep them from wearing out due to the carbide tips breaking thru the rubber ones. Also, for super lightweight electronic ear pro check out a.co/dySUvcB - I believe you can even get custom ear molds for them (what I use) and you get the best of all worlds and it won't affect your cheek weld.
For ear pro have you considered 3m Peltor TEP 100 In Ear ear pro...comes in a case that will recharge the earpro when in case...a little over 200 on amazon.
I find ziplock bags are great for organising stuff in my bags. They weigh nothing, are water resistant, cost cents, and can be multipurpose. The downside is that they will earn you zero tactical points on the internet, and they aren't well suited to applications that require a robust container.
You could put a snugpak special forces bivi bag into your kit, weighs in a just under 350g and would keep your sleeping bag dry and give it some extra protection and thermal rating.
Why would you ever store batteries under a sight, would removing the sight to replace batteries risk losing zeroing? Would it not? Or not so much for the aimpoint T1’s and T2’s?
after some thoughts, i wonder if Bryan uses the Alice frame? i cant say for his size, but i thossed mines and made a custom fit one for the ALICE pack. After hiking around for miles, I dont feel my 35lbs pack on my back. its more on my hips. maybe that can help ligthen up your load without getting nonUSA made products?? :D
Thank you for your reviews. Great job. I would recommend MSR, Outdoor Research (OR), and Black Diamond before any other gear. Then eliminate for your personal preference, for cause. At REI they have mountaineering classes that deal with all this in extreme conditions. Recommend you look at what mountaineers do; take a seminar at REI. And take an ultralight seminar there as you go. Look at bushcraft then and you will be good to go. . . . "the more you know the less you take" Mors Kochanski bushcrafter. I would never go anywhere without my MSR gear as my very old completely reliable white gas mountaineer burner - ruined by lending it to 'friend'. At high altitude you need more fuel value and used to use 'white gas' liquid rather than gas - more moles more fuel per unit. If you have to use gas stay lower elevations where it works. Just suggestions. You are doing great just the way you are. Just thought you might get something . . . I never go anywhere without Patagonia head to toe - gave to my son in law last minute as he left for a day trek probably saved him sever weather problem or at worst . . . . Maybe you will get the idea. Tech fabrics and solid tech mfg's. PS use rifle for pillow. I never sleep without my SCAR highly recommend. Tent use high weather functioning equip - blizzard, etc. Don't cheap. Weight not the key, construction materials, design, quality. Usually get lighter product. The most amazing difficult weather is appearing at low elevations lately.
interesting. i was looking to get a jetboil and the msr. i know the problem wasnt the products fault but i dont think I would want a product that is one trick pony. may have to resort to alcohol stoves. haha. jk. Great video like always!
If it will make you feel better about sweeping everyone with the rifle, take the bolt out and stow it somewhere else, and take bright orange paracord and loop it through the barrel and tie it to itself in front of the muzzle.
For added comfort on the alice pack check out the CSM gear ruck pad. Its a one piece waist belt/back pad. Can't beat it for the price. I did a quick video of it and my alice
JonHenry21 Weighed up the sea to summit vs the $2 Kmart inflatable travel pillow for a recent trip. It was only a four day hunt so I opted to go the $2 pillow and wrap my tektowel around it to soak up the sweat since I carry that anyways. Worked a treat. Wouldn't trust it if I was backpacking around the world or something, but for a short trip it's great.
Interesting the way you said everyone is carrying their weapons considering the website says you are subject to disqualification if you break the following rule. "1.4.1 Firearms should be cased or carried/slung with the muzzle up or down." Or does that only apply to the match sites?
Hey sir! I have a question if you have the time! I'm a private just getting out of Army AIT and while I was there I got bad shin splints! I've tried waiting for two weeks and then running again but I'm still in pain! Any idea how long I should be waiting to try to run again? Thank you for your service and I appreciate what you do for us gear lovers!!
Use your hardshelle as groud sheet for your sleepingbag. and you are out off problem with the groud waper. And in a pinch you can stuff your feet ind your pack for the nigth and cover the upper body with the hardshell, and lift it off the sleepingbag with som of your gear. find me on: Facebook.com/eventyrinorden and i will anwser if any qustions
The jetboil is as useless as tits on a bull in windy conditions....If (IF!) you can keep it lit boil times are attrocious....Worse than a standard stove and pot. The windburner is utterly unfazed in 50 mph winds in my experience. Boil times are equally unfazed by wind. I dont own a jetboil anymore for the above reasons.
24:00 minutes absolutely hilarious. Seriously watch Bryan end up taking his jetboi! I say that because tonight Bryan is gonna think " crap I can't lite the msr as fast what happens if I am cold and freezing and need food asap" and "I know that jetboil works shit fml MSR needs more testing I am taking the jetboil." I am laughing with you I way over process stuff to death.
You're not supposed to light the windburner from the bottom dude. You light it on the top and then put the pot on. Geez. And you should have measured the exact water. 4 cups is approximate one liter but not exact. So the whole test was useless as you had different amounts of water and kept messing with the lids.
And this is why everyone thinks Americans are idiots my sleeping pad isn’t comfortable because it has holes all over it and his trekking poles he can’t find replacement tips although he has two spares with the new poles 😂 OMG hopefully his shooting skills are better than his camping otherwise it’s gonna be a long camp he tried to cook food in a jet boil omg it gets better and better 😂😂 please do a rifle safety instructions video that be a blast
It is what it is.
Heating a battery? Obviously a bright spark
I switched from ground to hammock camping years ago. Helps my back A LOT!
Anyway the MSR Windburner really shines outdoors in real situations like in windy areas. You would be surprised how it performs vs Jet boil in a windy area.
I have the 3/4 length sleeping pad too and I'm 6'1 but I use a kifaru woobie instead of a sleeping bag......
For the Life-Link Triple Direct Hiking Poles can you not find the rubber tips or the metal tips replacement?
Bryan if you have time check shugemery on youtube . He explains
how to cut down on the weight of his gear, check his playlist and have fun
doing it.
Do you use a "shooting mat"? If so sleep on that. You can also use ether a poncho or painters plastic as a barrier for your sleeping bag.
So what were the weight savings?
what's your total pack weight?
Bryan, Why don't you have a rigger fabricate a holster for your Alice that will hold it barrel down? I'm sure you know some riggers. i used to fab stuff like this all the time in the loft.
You can blow up that Klymit pad in 4 breaths. You don't squeeze air into it, but only to get it really firm.
Adam Knapp , the benefit of not blowing into the pads is to reduce condensation on the inside of the pad.
Adam Lippman Very true, but would take a lot longer time with that pump.
Adam Knapp 2oz www.rei.com/product/829645/exped-schnozzel-pumpbag?CAWELAID=120217890000819175&cm_mmc=PLA_Google_LIA%7C404_28294%7C8296450001%7Cnone%7C20f5b282-3a51-48e1-a757-dd2543fccfc7%7Cpla-265594330940&gclid=CK-yt_-61NACFQuraQodiPcJHQ

I love MSR products, I've always used their tents.
awesome jetboil drama. Been there!!

you need a wiggys sleeping bag! works when wet! check out his reviews
How the hell do you get either of those stuff sacks to fit a sleeping bag that big?
You stuff, dont roll, dont fold, always stuff. It is easy caus he uses down, and it compresses a lot.
Down bags can compress really small.
I have the MSR Windburner. The only thing I dont like about it, is the locking detents is really weak. You dont get a positive click.
maybe Rob could sing to us when you're off Camera? love geartasting!
Sea to summit dry/compression bag will get that bag the size you need
I find ziplock bags are great for organising stuff in my bags. They weigh nothing, are water resistant, cost cents, and can be multipurpose. The downside is that they will earn you zero tactical points on the internet, and they aren't well suited to applications that require a robust container.
Read the instructions!!! the MSR is lit with the cup removed, NOT from underneath...
You could put a snugpak special forces bivi bag into your kit, weighs in a just under 350g and would keep your sleeping bag dry and give it some extra protection and thermal rating.
try to use sports nutrition. it save a lot of weight and space.
Why would you ever store batteries under a sight, would removing the sight to replace batteries risk losing zeroing? Would it not? Or not so much for the aimpoint T1’s and T2’s?
I msr is light from the top
Snugpak makes a good low profile one man tent
Great video.
I'd like a full Windburner vs Jetboil comparison video... or an AAR report from Mammoth.

can you please zoom in on products. thanks
Omg that’s not how you light the msr 🤦🏻♀️

The windburned and jetboil are both considered recreational. You should check out the MSR Reactor. It's meant for serious use.
interesting. i was looking to get a jetboil and the msr. i know the problem wasnt the products fault but i dont think I would want a product that is one trick pony. may have to resort to alcohol stoves. haha. jk. Great video like always!
mifslim I didn't know that it was just to boil water that you will destroy it with food added thank you.
Can you do a video at Mammoth?
Watching you trying to light those stoves was fucking painful...

Looking at that LBT organization panel I wish I would have sent the one i made for deployment 3 years ago in to a company
gymtard I've always cut out a piece of the old "puss pad" and stuck it in the frame as a back pad, works pretty well
you need to look into the Sea to Summit pillow by Aeros. Its a little expensive at $47, but its worth it dude!

Best Gear Tasting episode I've seen. Awesome.
Besides the RESCO, which is on my I Want list, what other watches do you have or wear? #geartasting #ITSTactical
I feel like that is one of, if not the, worst ways to carry a rifle... that said, if that's "proper procedure" ...
There are much, much lighter stove systems out there. Jetboils and the like are convenient but not suited for people who are really shaving ounces.
Kevin Lutz Such as?
I love these vids

You should really do a video going over what everything if behind you!
Learn how to light the MSR before you do a video.
Yikes, no doubt :)
Boat, you would not have lasted a week in the SADF. Pull up your big girl pants
