I would really take the Arcteryx rain pants as they go for a change of clothes for me! Also I would always take that pillow as it makes life easy having some good hours of good sleep! To sit around, cut a little peace of a therma rest z-lite and strap to the outside of the pack, works unbelievable in snow! Put the "sleeping socks" into the sleeping bag and dry the wet ones between your legs. that way you wont need change of socks and have easy and quick access when going to sleep. you could go with a kifaru floorless shelter and dont bring the tent, works perfectly fine with a bivy and good sleeping pad and really weights about nothing! In two to three days, you wont ever need a towel. I use waterproof stuffsacks too, but I would always bring a rock cover with me as it keeps my pack from getting soaked with water and getting heavy.
Good video. I'm looking at a few days alone on the AT this spring and I'm trying to figure what to take and the weight of all of it. Thanks for some ideas.
Hey Brian check out Tasmanian Tiger TT Field Pack 100 L for a really awesome modern version of your backpack with 2 removable side pocket who can zip together to made an another bag. Better weight distribution and confort
I work with the doctor that you are going with, I'm pretty sure he's taking his OBR. I heard you're going to be at his place sometime soon. It'd be great to be able to meet you if it's possible.
Does anyone remember a shooting strap that was used as an option to a bipod. You could lash it between two trees or a door. Allowed you to float the rifle? I can’t find it anywhere now. Used in airborne sniper operations as a platform
No toilet paper ? And why the ALICE pack rather than a Mystery Ranch bag which should be much more comfortable ? Is it the huge external pockets for ammo that dictates the choice?
hello why do you have the tent in the same bag as the sleeping bag. The sleeping bag will get wet when you pack everything back. awesome good clip, very interesting to see
Bryan, please dont pack your tent in the bottom of your drybag keep it at the top of your pack, your gonnahave a bad time if you spill your nice and dry down sleeping bag on the rainy wet ground before even putting up your tent, just my 2 cents
Personally I've never seen the point of rain pants. I find wiht rain that the rain jacket will keep most of the water of my legs. Even when we've had some pretty rain my legs have always been dry. Has anyone else found this or is it just me?
What i have found that in mid or heavy rain the water from the jacket slides down to my pants and they get wet or if the rain is coming sideways or heavy winds but in light maybe to medium rain just a jacket works good well at least for me.
GREAT video Bryan! I really enjoyed you going through the whole loadout. I am catching up on old Gear Tasting episodes.Good stuff. ATB
This has become my favorite UA-cam series.
made my day when i saw that large ALICE! OLD SCHOOL! OOOH-RAH!
soup sandwich! every time i use that term...and i use it often...i have to explain it.
+Renaissance MarineTV Had to stop using terms like soup sandwich, ate up, etc, too much effort explaining myself to the same morons
be nice! they arent morons. they are just the great unwashed!
+Renaissance MarineTV Nothing but ALICE with MOLLE frame, shoulder and Kidney pad. with attached recon bag on back from the CFP90. Great luck
if you switch the fastex buckles and put the female portion on the bottom and male portion on top its make tightening/ quick adjusting faster

Good Luck Bryan! You might consider a couple of nalgenes instead of the bladder, sucks when your hose freezes!
You should do a video on the Kestrel when you get back. I have one but there isn't that much out there that shows you how to use it.
Good luck Bryan, stay safe, and have a good time. Can't to hear the AAR.
Good luck with your challenge

Couldn't get approved for leave this year... Hopefully next year...
Hey Bryan, are those Superfeet insoles? I have been using them for a long time and am a huge fan.
Can you elaborate on which OR Beanie that was?
Go pro the course. I'd watch it
I always just use my dry bag of cloths as a pillow.
What did you do in the USN?
A fellow squid!
Awesome stuff man.
You can't fly with the fuel canisters (checked or carry on) and would need to buy it once you land. Better not try to send that through security.
I didnt see links for the clothing, what was that brand you are using?
+alaskankare Most is from Arc'teryx and their site is leaf.arcteryx.com/
Why the hell do you feel the need to buy/use $500 pants?
because it would really suck if they ripped during the challenge. lots of hiking+cold weather+ripped pants=terrible experience.
U should record your trip

Tip: you don’t have to show me you’re clear. If you wanna shoot your wall that’s on you:)
