I thought this show did a great job of incorporating small, but poignant character moments in between the action. Like Jean and Storm’s heart to heart in episode 9, before Storm jumps outa the jet. I have to be honest. I rarely come to Grace's channel for sober analysis. I often think it's lacking in that regard. I'm here, and will always be here, because she's wholesome. It's really hard to find unapologetically wholesome people in the internet space, but she always is. Never mean. Never thoughtless. Always doing her best. She's always excited and energetic in a way that I can't even achieve if I try. I recognize myself as a "cynical intellectual" and I often think wholesomeness rings as jejune, but I don't care. I love it. It reminds me to let myself smile. 😁
I do think it's the animation factor that's keeping the viewcount good but not amazing. I do think at the end of the day it still hasn't quite caught up to mainstream audiences yet
I feel like the key to the social commentary of the X-Men is it needs to be general enough that ANY group can see themselves in the mutant metaphor. If it gets too specific into any one groups talking points then the metaphor crumbles. Like the Genosha scene could have been viewed by Palestinians or Israelis as an allegory for Oct 7th or the Gaza invasion and each group could relate to it.
I consider myself the "broader audience". I don't know the comics and I have not seen the original 90s X-Men show. And I did not like X-Men 97 very much. It was too convoluted. Most of the time I had no idea what was happening and why. And to make it even more confusing, there were several things happening on top of each other which all were very unclear to me. Every MCU movie and show, including Secret Invasion, did a better job to explain what was happening and why it was happening. Maybe comic fans love these convoluted stories, but I didn't, and I hope we don't get this in the MCU. I don't mind more colorful costumes though. Give me yellow spandex in the MCU. I did not mind the animation - I loved The Bad Batch! It was the stories that put me off.
I am all for diversity casting (not that the team really needs it) but one thing is for certain with me: Xavier HAS to be a privileged white male and Magneto HAS to be a white Jewish holocaust survivor. Both of those characters racial identities are integral to their stories and the way they interact with the world. Xavier is the textbook definition of white savior complex.
You would think Hollywood would get it by now that using your sources is key there are so many examples of what happens when you don't lol However X-Men 97 gave me all the feels from the opening theme song I felt like a kid again watching my cartoons with a snack 😂
It is possible with the right balance and good writing for the movies. And you can still flesh out the stories and characters through streaming specials, shorts, and limited series.
So are you for Rogue, Scarlet Witch and Psylocke to get comic accurate or at least X-Men 97 costumes on big screen? That includes actresses that look like it as well.
I still can't get over that in 19 years and 10 movies, we didn't get to see Jubilee blow up a VCR at least! smh. I hope she gets her due with the new movie. She was brilliant in X-MEN '97!
Thanks for your opinion Grace, I hope Marvel is paying attention to it. We need GOOD writers that know and understand the source material and as you said keep the spirit of the message alive in the movie and can translate to a bigger audience
It's a writer's show, really, because the show earns its moments. Magneto's final moment with Leech, then its callback between Xavier and Magnus: masterfully written, and both moments killed me. Give the live action movies to writers who know how to earn moments and it will be a multi-billion dollar disney powerhouse IP.
I disagree as a 90s baby the xmen all leather definitely helped but. They could’ve included more color and when those movies came out we were not far from the 90s literally just got out of the 90s they could’ve definitely made colorful suits done right
Iceman and psylocke yes as long as the team isn’t overcrowded. Maggot and Cecilia Reyes would be a hard sell main to main stream though because they aren’t well known. I would love to see Maggot in a small role show up though. I would think Gambit and Cyclops are much more important to get good versions of in a movie before going further into the well.
Grace just because the animated show and 97 did comic storylines doesn’t mean it can’t do those storylines in movies and definitely for a live action movie which they can take more time with the material for 1 or 2 storylines
"Is Greta Gerwig an X-Men fan? I wouldn't be surprised" Funnily enough, Stephenie Meyers who wrote the Twilight books is a proud fan of the original 1992 animated series and has even credited the show and its team dynamics for influencing the interactions between members of the Cullen clan.
They better do their homework because XMen 97 really set the bar way up there.

Adapting the panels is called anime lol. This and invincible are basically American anime’s!
Really great insights as always Grace :)
I know you have a lot of stuff coming up, but can you rank your favorite X-Men 97 episodes?
And negasonic in Deadpool had an amazing yellow custom
Great video!
Grace you are spot on with this video!!!! I hope the team at Marvel shows this to Kevin.
I do think it's the animation factor that's keeping the viewcount good but not amazing. I do think at the end of the day it still hasn't quite caught up to mainstream audiences yet
Grace I respect that you listen. I wish more people would do the same.
Great video and breakdown!
I would argue gambit had the best trading card moment the scenes in genosha are forever seared in my brain and made him now my favorite xmen
Feige should hire Grace!
Great video Grace❤❤
That team is golden era material. Fantastic work!
You would think Hollywood would get it by now that using your sources is key there are so many examples of what happens when you don't lol However X-Men 97 gave me all the feels from the opening theme song I felt like a kid again watching my cartoons with a snack 😂
BTW I already got my Deadpool Wolverine Tickets I'm so excited to go to the party opening weekend🥳
Great video, you are the reason I decided to read X-men comics and then I fell in love with these characters!
Well said Grace, well said.
Is it possible to do these stories and characters justice unless its a tv series?
It is possible with the right balance and good writing for the movies. And you can still flesh out the stories and characters through streaming specials, shorts, and limited series.
So are you for Rogue, Scarlet Witch and Psylocke to get comic accurate or at least X-Men 97 costumes on big screen? That includes actresses that look like it as well.
9min and 40 sec mark made me cry cause it does give me chills when I hear it!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love the video grace
I still can't get over that in 19 years and 10 movies, we didn't get to see Jubilee blow up a VCR at least! smh. I hope she gets her due with the new movie. She was brilliant in X-MEN '97!
Great video! More X-men videos please!!!!!
Thanks for your opinion Grace, I hope Marvel is paying attention to it. We need GOOD writers that know and understand the source material and as you said keep the spirit of the message alive in the movie and can translate to a bigger audience
Casting call? I would love a video on it. Who you would like to be in the team and what actors
They could’ve included more color and when those movies came out we were not far from the 90s literally just got out of the 90s they could’ve definitely made colorful suits done right
This is the video I was expecting 🎉😎👌
Great Video, thank you :) Barbie and X-Men 97 are amazing
I see an Onslaught Story line where X-men team up with Fantastic Four and Avengers like in the 90s.
They need to remaster the OG show in 4K for Disney+!
we need maggot, cecilia, iceman, and psylocke as part of the main team
Iceman and psylocke yes as long as the team isn’t overcrowded. Maggot and Cecilia Reyes would be a hard sell main to main stream though because they aren’t well known. I would love to see Maggot in a small role show up though. I would think Gambit and Cyclops are much more important to get good versions of in a movie before going further into the well.
@@justincleary5249I agree, you'd probably need to go for more popular characters
Grace just because the animated show and 97 did comic storylines doesn’t mean it can’t do those storylines in movies and definitely for a live action movie which they can take more time with the material for 1 or 2 storylines
"Is Greta Gerwig an X-Men fan? I wouldn't be surprised"
Funnily enough, Stephenie Meyers who wrote the Twilight books is a proud fan of the original 1992 animated series and has even credited the show and its team dynamics for influencing the interactions between members of the Cullen clan.
