    Good video, a couple notes from us on this: the 270 and 274 cams are both very large cams for a 5.7. We designed the 270 to be a great all around performance cam for the 6.4, and the 274 is really meant for high RPM/ added displacement racing applications. After seeing this, we might look into doing a truly apples to apples comparison on a 5.7, 6.1 or 6.4 with a couple of our cam options vs. stock.

      @@Compcams1976 the 6.1 I posted aka my car.. made 500whp on the same dyno with my head work and manifold work and what not.. the cam in that car is smaller than the 270 that people are putting in 5.7s.. I think youd like the specs I came up with for my tuners 5.7 build.. I wont talk about them publicly as I never do.. being as I like to keep the competition 10 steps behind.. but I know exactly what they like and people are doing it wrong.. once I test the 5.7 stuff I'll get with yall and I might actually sell that cam as a cam only to people out of state.. I wont currently sell anything else I don't install.. but the 5.7 guys need some help!

      @@scottspencer6554 I would question some things with your claim lol. So 450whp with the 274 is what you claim? With a 5.7 just to be clear... and what do you expect a tune to be able to do? Squeeze out power to the point of throwing rods out the block... maybe breaking some ring lands? The difference in that type of power and safe tuning is literally 5 to 10hp.. that's it.. considering it's the same tuner and same dyno it's a good comparison.. if you're ever in the area of this dyno feel free to come by and do some pulls to compare in the same situation as these were run.. I'll even pay for your dyno pulls.. comparing these numbers to a dyno that might had had settings played with proves nothing.. this is indeed apples to apples.. same dyno matters.. hell my 500whp 6.1 would make about 520 down the street at the closest other local dyno.. I dont go there to claim I gained 20 😂😂 I do all my testing with the same wheels even.. and air pressure or my info is void.

    no question about it ,the 6.4 cam is without question the best cam for the 5.7. not only in cost but ease of tuning , it retains vvt and you loose nothing down low. i did this swap a few years ago in my 09 chally R/T 6m 392 rear end with 18" wheels , let me tell you i picked up about 60 gross HP, all i used was a new 6.4 cam, mopar performance valve springs, new lifters, stock rods and retainers and a good tune with a wide band o2. the 5.7 cam starts running out of breath around 5400 the 6.4 cam starts breathing at that and all the way up to about 6300 .incredible difference , all for under 2k in parts and i did the work.

    the reason for shifting 62-6400 rpm on the 5.7 isn't where its making power up top, its where it dumps you after the shift. its better to "lose" a little bit up there than to have to rebuild it down lower after the shift

  • @fas601minibikes7
    @fas601minibikes7 5 років тому +4

    Thanks man you have proved my theory that majority people don't understand how a hemi makes power on lower shift points by letting the engines trq work...they overrev shift points and cause car to actually loose power... obvious when you see a hemi falls on it's face at 3rd gear...the cars just starting to make power there...

    Question. The 392 and the stock 5.7 cam is made to run MDS lifters on 4 cylinders. Is it possible to replace the lifters on the 4 MDS cylinders with standard mopar lifters used on the other 4 cylinders to eliminate the MDS lifters that are known to fail? Or maybe put hellcat lifters on a stick MDS cam? I believe the comp cams have to have a different lifter set than stock lifters. I am looking to improve reliability and improve power but it would be cool to save some money too.

    • @ericbryant796
      @ericbryant796 3 роки тому

      They fail on non MDS cars too..so its not the MDS system, but the quality of the lifters IMO...which BTW has been updated and all Hemi's from the Hellcat to the 5.7L all use the same lifters now.

    • @possumpopper89
      @possumpopper89 3 роки тому

      @@ericbryant796 true but so few non mds factory vehicles exist it isn’t something that gains attention. The lifter quality is an issue, but in my opinion, the worst problems occur in vehicles that sit and idle a lot. Fleet vehicles such as police cars, work crews in trucks etc. the lifter oiling relies on oil being slung from the crankshaft, they don’t get pressurized oil. When the engine idles it gets less oil than when driving at higher rpm on the highways.
      Our local police cars see cam failures far more frequently than the highway patrol cars. They sit and idle a lot more and sit at traffic lights while highway cars see more higher rpm use and fail less often. I think the designers failed when they designed the oiling of these engines.

    Something seems off to me. Based solely on cam specs the 270 is the largest of the 3 and would make the most power especially peak power. I'm not hating and certainly not trying to be an ass but something isn't adding up.
    As for the 6.4 active intake it's a great mod! I was one of the first to install it on my 16 R/T and I'm the one who helped R/T life through the install process who he is seen talking to on the phone in his video. Not trying to be an ass, but the fact that you think the largest cam would make the most power shows you dont understand how anything works with these engines. Hell my 6.1 made 500whp and 497tq with a cam smaller than what most people put in these 5.7s.. people have it all fucked up.. the dyno didnt lie.. I have nothing to gain by putting this out there to shit on the 270.. but if you read through the comments you'll see where comp cams even stated that it's too big for a 5.7 lol.. but there are a ton of people who dont actually "get it".. so it's all good.. again.. not trying to be an ass.

      sean5comet. It’s simple, two big of a cam pushes the torque and hp to far to the right, this cause you to be in the higher rpm range all the time to move anywhere, this is not good useable power, especially in heavier cars and trucks that need the torque. Your intake manifold and cam are setup to run together in unison. You should watch a couple of Richard Holden videos.

    I’m wondering what a SRT 6.4 cam could do in a Ram with a 6.4 truck manifold. Seems like the Ram 5.7 breathes super well, especially when paired with the 6.4 manifold. Do you have any experience with Ram builds? Been following you for a while.
