  • Hello,
Do you prefer to ride alone or with a group,?
Do you constantly cover the same basic route on a ride out and find it sometimes difficult to come up with new ideas for a ride out.
If so the Calimoto app may be for you.
After a recommendation from a channel viewer I give a sort of first impressions review of the Calimoto app.
I also suggest another you tube video that should make us all think twice about strapping stuff onto our bikes and the protective riding gear that we wear when riding them
Please comment, like and Subscribing does help the channel .
If you would like me to share any information or you would like to send me a picture of your bike or adventure please send (preferably somewhere scenic and in Landscape) to-

hello Keith, great video again. What you were saying about riding gear reminds me of when I learnt to ride in the 60's I bought a pair of drainpipe blue jeans from the market for ten bob (50p in new money) and a second hand leather jacket from a workmate for £1-50p if it was cold I wore a wool bobble hat and a pair of my mothers gloves. When I picked my girlfriend up from work in the summer she would would be wearing a mini skirt and tank top and a pair of sandals with me in my jeans and T shirt. No one worries when they are teenagers. We survived somehow and we're still together 56 years later. We were mad, and now when I see the few kids about that are riding bikes I always hope they are are more sensible than we were. I always ride in protective gear now though!

      Yes Mate, spot on.
I had an ex pit Donkey jacket, jeans, gauntlets stolen from work.
This was supplemented if it rained by them big thick yellow rubber leggings on the outside of my wellies.
Daft thing is, they didn't leak water in.
I now have rukka leggings and proper boots and if I get caught out and it rains real heavy, guess what.... Yep, you're ahead of me.
Ride safe Mate and thanks for sharing your memories

Morning Keith, I am the same. Don’t get me wrong, I will ride with others occasionally, but prefer to ride at my own pace (fast or slow), stop when I want (or not stop at all), just do my own thing. I tried Calimoto a few years ago (2019), couldn’t get on with it, as on a road with lots of bends the arrow was quite distracting, going left right/left/straight etc. Maybe I hadn’t set it up right, maybe through many updates it’s better now. In fact, what you see on your screen, is not what I used to see on mine 🤔😂. As for losing subs when changing bikes, it happens mate. I was surprised not to lose many after I sold my Interceptor 650. Nice ride out and chat.

      Hi Ian,
Can't disagree with your group riding thoughts.
It seems we are not alone!
I quite like Calimoto but it is early days.
      Time will tell.
I don't think you're not going to change your bike because you may lose a few subscribers.
At my level it isn't like I'm in it for the money!
Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
      Ride safe👍

Morning Keith great ride bud, the app sounds good, re group riding my problem with group riding is I tend to lose concentration and start look in at where I am instead of what I’m doing, 🥴 been on a couple of RE club runs here in France, frustrating with 40 + riders with all different abilities and riding styles, both times broke off and went my own way, miserable git me 🤣 thanks for putting up my photo 😊 good to see you sat and having a natter in the sunshine somewhere pretty, shiney side up mate, ….. Yes Mate, 40 + would be a nightmare especially as you say they are all at different riding abilities.
I would of broke off too.
The app is good if you need a new suggestion for somewhere to go, but it's not free so the big test will be if I renew it next year.

Thanks for the mention of my recent trip, yes its a shame that Santa and me are so far apart (550 kms) plus she doesn't speak any English and my Spanish is very poor pronunciation (Good Moaning). But we did 'hit it off' well.
When I had Kawasaki's back in the 1990's I was a member of their riders club and would go on ride outs with a large group from Southampton, however there is always some idiot who wants to do stupid things and show off to the crowd. So in the end I stopped riding in groups all together and now prefer my own company and set my own speed. Since losing my wife I do tend not to meet up with people and am happiest on my own now anyway.

    • @shottostravels
      @shottostravels  5 днів тому +2

Couldn't agree more Mate, there's always one.
I don't mind a tickle with others sometimes, small groups though.
(So that we can share our misery with each other)😉
But having spent years as a lorry driver I thoroughly enjoy the open road and my own company.
It seems I'm not alone, or you.
No one has popped up saying, oh, I prefer riding in a group with a bunch of people, we have a great time.
Thanks for the photos and your regular comments.

Hi, great video. I'm a regular user of Calimoto & love it. It's so easy to plot a route on the website & it's immediately available on your phone. As for solo riding, you're a man after my own heart, eight of us toured Scotland in may & it was purgatory, like herding Cats.

I can imagine Mate. A mate of mine regularly goes on a European adventure. With a group. But they seem to ride on there own in the day but all have the same destination in mind. They all head to the same hotel every night and enjoy a meal and a beer and a catch up on their day. Then follow their own itinerary the next day.
It seems to me that's the way to do it, a bit of company a meal, and a chin wag at night and solo Riding in the day.

Morning Keith, another cracking ride mate, I’m with you on the group rides it’s ok if there’s two or three mate’s out for a ride but anymore than that and it becomes hard work keeping everyone together, takes all the fun out of a ride. I like the idea of Calimoto and I know lots of people think it’s wonderful but I prefer a dedicated sat-nav when I need one rather than using my phone, too many places up here where you still don’t get a signal 😮 and that’s where the best rides are 😂 the bike specific sat-nav’s also have the twisty rides function and it’s surprising to see where they take you even in an area that you think you know well 😂 Only thing I would say is can you mount your phone any lower because it’s covering up those gorgeous twin clocks mate 😊 😂 All the best buddy 👍

      Hi Mate all very fair.
      I like it.
But I understand the lack of a mobile signal in some areas could make it a bit challenging.
      But other options are available.
I know what you mean about the clocks, I have the Quadlock handlebar mount, again other solutions are available, maybe I need to investigate.
I don't think it'll be on the bike all the time though.
Groups, It's Good occasionally as one subscriber mentioned " to have a ride out with other like minded miserable people"
      Made me chuckle.

Great ride, I might look into Calimoto, not sure if it is available in the States. I prefer riding alone, or in small groups with trusted riders such as my son and brother. Large groups of strangers can be dangerous, too many over here like to drink beer on the stops, not a good mix for bike riding in my opinion. Seems like you always get someone that thinks they have something to prove on their bike. The exception has been the police escorted "Ride for Kids" everyone seemed respectful and safe on those. Take care friend!

Hi Keith, solo for me unless something like the DGR is on. I ride where I want when I want, sometimes I go and don't know where I'll end up. To get home I just head in the right direction (my sense of direction is pretty good) until I'm back on familiar territory. To be fair, sometimes my rides end up taking rather longer than originally planned 😃 Ride safe👍

As a seasoned rider, camper I've always over strapped. Rock Straps- making sure the loose ends are tucked under- followed by a cargo net over the whole bundle. Sometimes enen an extra cargo net attached to the first one. Works to fitting the long sleeved shirt when the temperature has risen. I always ride solo so packing the bike is somewhat easier.

Generally I prefer to ride alone, travel at my pace, stop when I want & not worry about other people. On the Calimoto App, I think your the first reviewer to mention the price of subscription , I wont be buying one as the Garmin satnav works for me, & that gets used mainly as true speed over clocks speed & MPH speed limit reminder!

Evening Keith, most interesting vid, raising several points for me.
Thanks for mentioning this little channel of mine, and bringing Big Don's predicament across the puddle to notice - there's a few valuable lessons to be learned there.
I myself am very much a solitary rider, including and especially on my annual Spanish trip, and purely by choice - means I can go where I please and change my plans when I wish, although I do organise and lead the occasional charity ride-out from The Yew Tree.
Now Calimoto and similar technology? I've tried - believe me I've tried, but I'm just a paper-map man, a dinosaur if you like!
Great video anyway mate, and very thought provoking. 👍

Hi Keith thanks for this insight into Callimoto, I have considered it but I would need to upgrade my smartphone to be able to tun it. I did try the original Beeline but found the lack of information to be the deal breaker plus the device went faulty and had to be sent back. I'm surprised you didn't stop at the Old Smithy in Monyash, this is one of my regular routes through Longnor and Crowdecote as shown in the video. I'm not a fan of riding in a large group and tend to avoid such ride outs. My preference is to ride Solo and maybe up to 2 others.

I ride with protective gear always, as do most of the older guys I see.
