  • How do you like to navigate? There's paper maps, turn by turn Garmin devices and there is Drivemode dashboard 2. Which one is the best?
It all depends on your own preferences, and for you to decide I have made this video showing what I use.
    You find DMD2 here www.drivemodedashboard.com/
    Handlebar controllers www.thorkracing.com/carpe-nav...
    The Carpe Iter pad www.thorkracing.com/carpe-nav...
    Seymors rugged Doogee phone doogeemall.com/en-se/collecti...
    The OBD link amzn.to/3HF1CLH
Note, the OBD dongle is a standard 16 pin connector. You need an adapter cable from 16 pin to what ever connector your bike has. The Tenere 700 has a 4 pin connector for the older models and 6 pin connector for the newer, so make sure you check what you have.

For many years, I used a Ule ruggedized mobile just for navigation on motorcycles. It worked well with predownloaded maps, IP68. Connected to my motorcycle battery. But it was just a ruggedized mobile. Washelpfull, till it fell off from the RAM mount, and realize only when I stopped. This seems great product to have. I have picked up a Tomtom and have been using it ever since.

I will, however, carry on with my 'old fashion' XT because all I really need is a map and direction to follow. The rest with all the buttons could be too distracting from enjoying the ride and views. I am a fan of this system but I got a unit with some hardware problems. You find out about a company when there are problems. I'm genuinely pleased to report that my first problem was fixed quickly. My biggest problem was sending the unit back as I live in Brexitainia. I had to send it back a second time and the Czech company said they'd send me a new one as I really didn't trust the device anymore. I'm happy to say this company, both in Portugal and Czech Republic are decent and honourable. They're also pretty responsive when there is a problem so my takeaway is this. A good system from a decent company. I had a bit of a crappy unit and the backup was honest and honourable.

For many years I have been using a Garmin 590LM, coupled with Garmin VirbXE cameras. Although one can only pair one camera at a time, I had the ability to control the camera from the GPS unit. This makes it much easier to poke a button on the screen to take an image or start a video. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and I "upgraded" to a Garmin XT2. I was extremely disappointed to learn that since Garmin discontinued their Virb camera line, with the exception of their backup cameras, deleted camera control from the XT series. As a part time UA-camr, I relied on camera control to produce my videos.

Seriously though, I’m a Garmin XT user, what I’d like is Garmin to bring out a handlebar controller, so you can use it without taking your hands off the handle bars! It must surely be possible, judging by all the electrical pins on the back of the unit?

Hello. I used gloves that have rubber covered fingertips before I got the little joystick from Carpe iter. And there were no problems, except in the rain, but then it doesn't work without gloves either 😎

I like your content. I just bought my 2023 Tènèrè 700 and named him Amanar (another Tamashek word representing the Orion constellation, or northern star kinda vibe, offering a protected and guided journey). :)
$9k from the dealer with 3k miles, new tires and service and 9-10k in upgrades! Shows that the dealers really don't give you any money back on these things. Anyway, you've been a good source so far for me continuing researching my new purchase. I pick it up in a few days after they do the tires and some small work.

First, let me say, you guys are very good. I have watched a few videos on your trips and I love it. Also a thank you for all the information you gather and share with the rest of us.
I have a Garmin XT and the only reason I bought it was because of the screen brightness. Using the phone for sometime it pissed me off when I needed to look at the map and couldn't se a thing during the day.
My question is... which screen is brighter during day light and direct sunlight? Garmin Zumo XT or the Caper Iter Pad?
If they are at least the same, I will change my setup to the Caper Iter because Garmin sux. Planing a trip is a pain and most of the time it does not find the address I need, at least not in Portugal where I'm from.
Any information on this comparison would be appreciated.

Thanks 🙏 Garmin is very bright but Carpe is close or the same. But I haven’t seen them next to eachother.

As the author of Solitaire for Windows and a frustrated Zumo XT off road user I whole heartedly approve.
I have a Samsung Active Tab coming to try out DMD2. I’m excited to not sing songs on our Cardo Packtalks about all the horrible things we want to do to Garmin product managers.

I really like the entusiasm and the work you put in to this. A great ambassador for the product. I have followed the development more or less since the start, and bought the lifetime access and controllers. And how much I really like to like it I am so far quite disappointed about the map it offers. Very lacking and not much help offroad. I always go back to locus where I can use topographical maps from lantmateriet in sweden and CNIG in Spain.
I use the DMD/2 as a main screen on my mounted tablet. It is a nice main screen for bikes for sure, helpful to get a overview and easy access to the other applications. But for me the type of tablet and the maps I can use are more important. So I always start and navigate through the locus map, there is just so much better setup and user friendly.
I know about the restrictions of the map use and that is why DMD uses the free maps. But if it could have an option to load your own offline maps it would be a whole package. Lets see in the future.
Keep up the good work and ride safe.

Thanks Andreas! I know they are looking at new map layers and I have promoted Lantmäteriet :) so let's hope for that. In Sweden it's unbeatable in detail. Cheers!

Just bought the Tablet, Adventure control and the mount for my GSA, a lot of €:s….
Hope the next version of DMD2 is coming soon.
And Robert, more videos about how to operate and how to install, and optimize this things.
Maybe I can pay you a visit, when the snow in Dalarna has meltet.
I will bring some local beer….😉

Very nice job ! Is it possible to get a review video for the controlers and what part of the app are you using on your left hand and which on your right ? especially on your right because it sounds a litle tricky having a controleer on your gas controling hand .

      @NomadSweden  Рік тому

On roadbook I have scroll and trip meter controls on the left so I don't need right side often. On maps I need to use both sides, but mainly left.

I really appreciate your details on the DMD2. I have decided to get a Samsung Tab Active 3 (Made in Vietnam), instead of a Thorks/Carpe-Iter, etc which are made in China. I would like to ask your advice on memory. Is the 64GB models OK for all the maps I would need or should I pop for the 128GB model? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for doing this video. I have installed the app on my Samsung tab 3. Now adding the adv controller to complete the setup. Two questions if you don't mind? Could you do a video of the wiring, as I already have limited space under the seat, and would you comment on the wheel sensor? I use the rally moto app in the uk, and think the wheel sensor would be required? Thank you.

Nomaden, tech nerd you are! And I am too. I'm trying to find a decent android for bike use with DMD2. Thinking about the Ulefone Armor X10, which is quite cheap, and hopefully capable of navigation.

Thanks for the video and the "Africa bit". With the Carpe Iter set with controllers and the touch disabled, if you take it off its mount, does it fall back on touch control automatically to use it as a normal tablet?

    • @NomadSweden

If you disable touch you need to enable it again before you release it. If i forget that and leave the bike i just restart the tablet and touch is back on

    • @NomadSweden

Have not used locus much, but Locus is much more advanced and more work to use. I like the simplicity of DMD2 map, but it lacks planning which Locus has. But it's coming.
