I bought a G90 last October. It's the 3.3 liter 2WD and I love it. The car has been perfect...no issues. However when I used the Genesis website to schedule my first oil change, things went wrong. First, when I made the appt. for the service, I received an email from the dealer service manager to confirm. On the Tues. morning of the appt. no one showed up. After a half hour I called the dealership. After being hung up twice I finally talked to the service mgr. He knew nothing about the appt. He then drove a G80 out to my home and picked up my G90 personally. After 3 hours a nice young man returned my car. Just as a side note, they didn't wash the car. I'm disappointed in the service but still love the car.
wow, with KIAs new cadenza, Hyundai's new genesis brand, and now the equus... they have come such a long way from 10 years ago when they had nothing but cheap econo-boxes for cheap. they have really improved well done to KIA and Hyundai.
Luxury in a general perspective is comfort and ego. For the most of us its having the feeling of superiority. Where some people feel that spending more is luxury and thats where Hyundai draws the line. Making this brand a basis of affordability for the mid income and delivering a new sense of ego to support the new meaning of luxury. The Genesis line will be a succes due to this new perspective and will deliver on the same platform as the european cars sooner than later.
You must live in your own world there is no new perspective everyone still sees Hyundai the same, only people who buy them are ones who can't afford a real luxury brand or old people who don't care. Yea on the same platform as the euro rivals? Yea right keep telling yourself that
Ali Alslaman my exact thoughts was that... Not seeing the very great potentials of a new coming base line competition because it has an H on it or because its simply "Hyundai" is not stopping the realistic views of others to spport the upcoming luxury line. Just like many others that have started on the low end in this market competition, the Genesis line will undoubtably be a success also, especially when the vision is already in perspective.
Enjoyed the review, can't wait to see one in person. Luxury - the comfort, quality, design, stance, style, horsepower, reliability, and "sparkle" a car has that when you see or sit in it for the first time makes you "gasp" - followed by a moment of silence or two :)
To answer your question MotoMan, concerning what is luxury? Well, really it all comes down to perception and levels of mental thinking. This translates to how the vehicle makes you feel from going to point A to point B. Furthermore, if we include the bourgeois in this segment then it would, of course, be about the brand and nothing else. But if we keep this idea exclusive to the true meaning of luxury, then we are brought to Genesis. This car exudes everything that represents luxury. MotoMan, I love your review. Very well paced and edited. But since you didn't give me the frustrated designer, I guess I would have to ask your opinion about the design of the car and it's interior. So, what is your opinion on the design language, interior, and exterior?
I drive G80 3.8 V6 AWD. When i test drive BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class vs Genesis G80 driving experience was the same.Where Genesis beats Germans is - Value for money. - Interest % on Germ cars if you lease or finance 4x times more vs Genesis. - Germans cars empty in sense that you have to spend additional 25.000 dollars or more to have full equip t Mercedes or BMW. - Genesis offer me 4 new winter tires and 3 years service for free. Mercedes and BMW typical nothing! -Genesis is quality product. you will save the money and have fully loaded car.
+Clous von actually the build quality on the "higher end" hyundai vehicles is actually pretty good my brother has a 2012 equus and it's held up pretty well
I have a Genesis AWD 3.8 and love it. I love the design, power and luxury and on top of that it's not a typical snob German luxury car with reliability issues that come with European luxury cars.
Hey Moto man, I think luxury is selling a car that loaded with goodies for the fraction of the price. It's the feeling that you won, because you have a car that you paid little for and have sooooo much!
my opinion is that Hyundai has evolved heavily from an eco car builder to a more tech advanced modern automobiles that is building huge respect for an outstanding reputation. I see a very bright future for its newly launched brand ...as a matter of fact I sent Hyundai an email like a year and a half ago suggesting they should separate the Eqqus and Genesis from the Hyundai badge and I remember that I gave them the suggestion of adopting the name GENESIS as a brand...was it a coincidence or maybe these guys really listen very carefully for their loyal customers ... all in all I can't wait to see what Genesis will unpack for us in the few years to come...am sure it will be pretty exciting.
nice view, i am really proud of the koreans , they're overcoming cars that no one expected them to , to be i think Koreans cars are now better than american cars
Considering the fact that Korea (South that is) was poor or poorer than those countries in Africa which being poorest in the world and they are the household name of biggest electronic company "Samsung" and now this. What other country do you know can pull all these off right front of your eyes?
Muhammad Al Qahtani Don't know much about the v6 tt but a lot of reviewers are saying its an awesome engine. I went for the v8 because it offered the most power and it was an offer i couldn't pass up.
I used to own Mercedes C-class, BMW 3 series, Samsung SM7, and now I have driven 2015 Lexus for about one year now. But, I would love to buy this car one day if I become successful in the future..

In 2011, Genesis was rated number 15 of the then available luxury large cars mainly because it was new and unknown. It has curved it's niche into the market and is most of the time on No. 5 of the 16 large luxury cars most of which were there then except Kia K900
i wish these little kids would stop commenting and repeating on how 10 years ago.. kia hyundai was this and that etc etc. 10 years ago you were probably in preschool, sucking your thumb and skipping classes, eating nose boogars and chasing after cooties. As grown ups we dont dwell on our past and just keep moving forward. So thats what we should do- just keep moving forward. stop your sheepish comments, it doesnt elevate your status.
12way adjustable seats for the back row, are a luxury that not everyone who wants a luxury sedan, will use often or pay a lot for. So basically, they know also, that most people will buy the V6 config more, so they have left that extra luxury for the ones who will buy the V8 version. It is actually a smart thing to do. Because the V8 engine increases the price a lot, they have tried to make the essentials available on most luxury sedans plus a bit more, in a well priced package for the V6... That's their core product. The V8 is not their core product, but it is their exclusive one, for customers with a willingness to spend more.
Very nice review (as always, had no doubts :) ) The problem with Korean high class cars is that they don't have brand strong enough for the type of people they need to be selled. Sure, you can put every bit that previous and even actual model of some premium brand has in your car but, let's be honest, those types of cars are more status symbol than necessity so the make, the brand are very very important. That being said, they need to start sometimes and somewhere and by the examples like this one I think they are on the right path.
I couldn't care less about brand.. If it's better and cheaper, that's all I need. It's like my friends 93 Civic.. Yes.. It gets laughed at.. But when he pulls up to sports cars and whoops their ass, the feeling is priceless.
That's your opinion and thank God there are people like you but I think that you are in minority. All that I said is the general rule in my opinion but there are always exceptions.
Ok, I really don't know the price details because I'm not in your country and don't know market situation but I speak generally about those brands that don't have position to offer "the best" because people more often buy to show off and not from necessity.
It would be helpful to know the noise level, especially compared to lux cars we are familiar with such as S Class, LS460 and A8, etc., which have tended to be the quietest.
Slight fuel efficiency gains from the turbo V6 compared to the normally aspirated V8 (20 mpg vs 18, or about $1200 over 5 years, provided the turbo fuel efficiency numbers are accurate, and as experience teaches, they rarely are), but at the expense of longevity and repair cost. Not sure if it's a good tradeoff.
Yea, the whole, edging on a tirade against V8 felt weird, and out of character for Motoman. Some of it was borderline untrue. The G90 V8 will NOT have a gas guzzler in the US. I'm not totally familiar with China or EU policies, but the differences between 3.3L and over 4.0L would be 25% for the 3.3L and 40% for the 5.0L.
+Shitty Chris $20k are u kidding me where are you getting that number from. turbo engines are good for 150k miles before it needs replacement and even then it would be cheap by then
If the Koreans dominate on the Sumsung Technology, they make the modern fighter jets by Kia, a Division of Hyundai, how are they not able to take the dominant players market share??
This is the future front line player and they hardly have their cars recalled. In 23 years of manufacturing their cars, Hyundai is currently the 5th if not the 4th largest car manufacturers. Give them the next 5 - 7 years then they will be dominating GM, VW Group and Toyota both in price, sales, features by vehicle type and reliability and performance..
There are those who view luxury predominantly by the badge, and embrace such terms as "pedigree" and "prestige". In another time, these people would have been avid purchasers of snake oil. They are in love with the "concept" of what they have purchased, and relegate the empirical merits to a tertiary consideration at best. Others define luxury as something which is qualitatively superior to the median. Quality of materials, quality of assembly, design (aesthetic and ergonomic), ambiance. When you sit in a luxury vehicle, you know it right away. If you have to ask if it meets the definition, it doesn't. The Equus came close, but fell a bit short in terms of material quality. This G90 hits the mark squarely. I absolutely agree that it is far more comfort-based luxury, but nobody criticizes the LS for not being a neck-snapping sports sedan any more than they criticize a LaFerrari for loud engine noise and lack of luggage space. Genesis is not pretending that this is an S7 alternative. It is, however, a credible S-Class or LS alternative. As for where I hail from and what I drive - I live in Ontario, Canada, and drive a '15 Genesis Sedan. My second choice when shopping was the Lexus GS 350.
I purchased a off lease 2015 Hyundai Genesis tech package in January 2016. So I've had it for 8 months now. It is an awesome car. Your question of what is luxury in my mind for a vehicle... 1. Quality - solid, quiet, spacious, comfortable, lasting style 2. Value for money -- I enjoy luxuries, but don't necessarily want to spend a premium for a brand name with less features. 3. Features - must haves were awd, powerful engine, heated steering wheel, memory seats, cooled seats, pano sunroof, and a fully adjustable passenger seat (the significant other also pays half the bills....) 4. Service where it counts - longer warranty periods, after sales service excellence 5. Technology support - take a page from Microsoft and bake in to the price sufficient hardware to be supportable via regular upgrades for free that are easily accessible via home network. Overall, Hyundai is very good at getting the customer value proposition. Most german manufacturers that would be in similar price ranges or even 10-30K more expensive still don't have a cooled seat option. Hyundai does need to take a page out of Ford's playbook however as do most other car manufacturers in relation to their technology head unit and the ease of which upgrades can now be downloaded to the vehicle from your own garage. I've been a bit long winded here but do love my Genesis and am extremely happy to see them moving the Genesis into a separate brand similar to lexus, infiniti, etc.
I'm loving the car, especially the interior and im glad it finally looks nice on the outside too, but i really wish hyundai stopped making such poor choices. Until recently they removed the adaptive suspension, self opening trunk, rear seat controls, one ventilated memory seat, and other features from the North American genesis sedan while the Korean models had them. Now they removed rear displays from the equus and self driving? It makes no sense, they're built in there but they assume we don't want more features?
the new kind of luxury is what Genesis is doing and i like what I'm hearing. Think volvo is moving that direction as well. Luxury just isn't about the car. its about the service during purchase, the vehicle, and the service during maintenance. that is what the price of a real luxury vehicle should be about. If I was in the market for a new car this car would be an option id consider.
I went to my local dealer to drive this $72,000 car but it was in a $10 dealership that seems to have little interest is selling me the car, and knew almost nothing about it. I also doubt they could maintain it as they had a terrible rating.....I did not buy it. There has to be some level of trust to spend that kind of money. It is easy to see whey they want to keep you away from their dealers.
Thanks for the great review. One problem for me (IF it ever comes to Australia, which looks unlikely) - it's TOO good. As just an average chauffeur, all I need is a large, but SIMPLE sedan. Here in Aus, we have had two cars like this - the Holden Caprice, and the Ford Fairlane. (the Fairlane went out of production in 2007, and the Caprice goes out of production late next year, apparently). The G90 looks to be definitely big enough, but it looks like it's going to be just too expensive. I wish they'd produce a simpler version to get the price down - leave out some of the tech, use cheaper upholstery etc etc. It seems to me that the large but BASIC sedan is dying. I want a G85 - this would be priced just a bit above the G80, but the same size as the G90. (the Genesis/G80 isn't quite large enough to make a *good* limo IMHO, however you do see them used as such here in Sydney)
For me, Luxury is a combination of things… its not just some fancy leather with faux wood sprinkled around. Its Craftsmanship, Attention to details, High quality & genuine materials, Effortless performance, Comfort, Road presence & Proportions. The reason I excluded Technology is because a Car can be dumb as a box of rocks & still be luxurious… for instance, Pre-BMW\VAG Rolls-Royces & Bentleys weren't exactly on the forefront of technology at their times. As for Brand cache & Prestigious names, yea they count in the overall scheme of things… Companies need that to sell … that's why Cadillac & Jaguar aren't doing as well as BMW & Mercedes…. The 80s & 90s killed their Standard of The World & Racing Pedigree prestige respectively, And the less said about Ford did to Lincoln, the better… also that's why VW couldn't sell the Phaeton.
Luxury is perfection in build quality, in design and technology. Luxury leaves nothing to be desired and nullifies the 'if we could have this it be perfect' feeling.
The G90 looks like a great car to me, but compromise is not something I associate with absolute Luxury. I think the sales pitch here is more about perceived value per dollar spent...
I've been in German cars since 1998. Having sold (and still do) German cars (Mercedes Benz) and on my 11th Mercedes Benz vehicle (E300) I can tell you first hand that Mercedes, BMW and Audi are not building cars to their price point any longer. Too much aluminum, small, turbo charged 4 cylinders, lack of attention to detail and .... wholly missing, that teutonic German drive. I saw my first G90 driving down the road, at night on the highway. I swore it was a Rolls by it's gorgeous rear end, until I saw the emblem. The car's curb presence is stunning, and i'ts +/- 40-50,000 less then a S560v4. My E Class is shameful. Sounds and drives like a much less expensive car. Aside the world class safety equipment, and knowing my baby boy is perfectly safe, I hate the car through and through. The last German car I owned that far exceeded the $ was my 14 991-911 C2 Coupe. I think it's sad that one must spend over $100k to find a "German" car. And by that I mean one that feels substantial, and... that stereotypical German feel. If the G90 leases out well, and assuming I like how it drives. I'm getting a G90 for next car. It's been a long time since a car excited me. I hope it's all it's cracked up to be.... and I'll enjoy watching Genesis rise to the top.
Honestly, the interior looks bettern than the new LS from Lexus(and I like more Lexus than Hyundai, so I am not a hater here). The exterior on the Hyundai also looks good, maybe even bettern than the LS. I am not a huge fan of that huge grille, which we see on every Lexus for around 3 years.
RKE Ghost you make a good point, but remember this... For 65k, you'd get a loaded a6, 5 Series, or e class, which is a vehicle class below this car. If you wanted to jump up to the full size luxury class where this car sits, you'd be hard pressed to even get into a base model a8, s class, or 7 series for 65k.
MIQUEL AVERY I totally agree that the power and Torque figures should be higher in order to be more competitive. However, unless they develop a V8 with forced induction, I don't think it's gonna happen. The reason the Torque figure is so low on this car because it's naturally aspirated. I think to get you your power figures they'd have to twin turbo the 5.0
Actually, I'd like to partially agree with Clous here. The light brown wood shown in this video with the black leather does look less than appealing in person and in media. Interestingly though, the black wood that is only available with the cream leather looks and feels much luxurious than this one. Too bad they didn't showcase that in this video.
I agree. Light brown wood doesn't go very well with black leather in my eyes. It's too 'loud'. Deep rich brown wood, almost going in the maroon color territory looks much better with black.
Audi should sue Hyundai for coping their cars. Hyundai has no creativity. The front end looks ripped right off an Audi A6 and the back looks like a wannabe Mercedes. They can try to make it look like the Germans as much as they can but it's still a damn Hyundai.
You can't blame Hyundai as a whole - they have excellent Korean/Int'l designers overall but most design proposals are shut down by the Big Chung. Now who is the Big Chung? That is an excellent question. It's just the dinosaur chairman of the Hyundai Motors Group who was born in 1938 and who has this obscenely irritable insistence that he has the final say-so on the final design of the most important product of this new brand. Since he is not from the traditional automotive engineering background, I think he feels an obligation to stick his fat conglomerate fingers into everything. Perhaps, he likes like think of himself has Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, Ferrari, or Lamborghini of the days past! I think he should let take the lessons learned from BMW when its chairman tried to intervene in everything and almost ruined the brand before professionals took over. Amusing, no? Cheers
This has ride comfort, the brand was seperated to give it more prestige, performance is saved for the G80 Sport. You are missing the point of the brand. You are getting what others offer for more than 10 grand less. I have no problem pulling this car up anywhere because it is nice, luxurious and I'm not a brand name snob who pays for that overpriced garbage.
this car and the g80 or genesis sedan get more looks and positive comments than just about any other sedan so i don't get your point. Do c or e classes get compliments daily despite costing more than the g80? Do they get mistaken for bentleys or 100k+ cars? not so much although the rear lights on the new c class are similar to the s class.
I love the interior design so much... I love everything in this show .
You in me both bud.
I like the interior except for the steering wheel. I would rather some Mercedes or Audi styling.
That Turtle crossing sign moment and reaction was precious.
Car is cool too.

Because the Koreans aren't doing this, half of Hyundai are euro people including who's doing the styling nown
a lot of korean designer work of germen. american. japanese car company. chevrolt corvette . chevrolt camaro etc design is made by korean designer.
And maybe will be better than Japanese cars.
I might get a Genesis
+Shitty Chris I know why. brand snobbery.
Get one dude! I have the v8 ultimate and it is incredibly. Totally worth it. I've even caught dudes in bmws and mercs staring at it.

I just purchased a G90 with the V6 and I love it. What's interesting is that there will only be 9 G90's for the state of AZ before Jan. 1st.
Modern day LS400, would love one of these as a daily driver.
I think luxury is how a car makes you feel when you drive it. Ex-Californian now in Atlanta. Ex-AUDI now driving an X1BMW

Will you be doing a A4 review?
@MotoManTV Is it true that the sound is in Genesis is made by the same people that make the sound for the (re)new(ed) Rollers?
But can you get road head from your secretary with the passenger seat pushed forward?

I'm not totally familiar with China or EU policies, but the differences between 3.3L and over 4.0L would be 25% for the 3.3L and 40% for the 5.0L.
+Shitty Chris $20k are u kidding me where are you getting that number from. turbo engines are good for 150k miles before it needs replacement and even then it would be cheap by then
"turbo engines are good for 150k miles" -- Never head an engine that needed major work after 150K. In my book that is unacceptable.
+mountainhobo *cough cough range rover and bmw engines
Hey why is Motoman in B.C.?
Who are you kidding? You're clearly doing 140-160k's an hour.
Good review
If the Koreans dominate on the Sumsung Technology, they make the modern fighter jets by Kia, a Division of Hyundai, how are they not able to take the dominant players market share??
Something i just noticed is the front doors look super small. The steering wheel takes up under half the door. Really ocd.
Dam good looking car 🚗
1. Quality - solid, quiet, spacious, comfortable, lasting style
2. Value for money -- I enjoy luxuries, but don't necessarily want to spend a premium for a brand name with less features.
3. Features - must haves were awd, powerful engine, heated steering wheel, memory seats, cooled seats, pano sunroof, and a fully adjustable passenger seat (the significant other also pays half the bills....)
4. Service where it counts - longer warranty periods, after sales service excellence
Not to nitpick, but you're actually on the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C), not the Trans Canada. And Kelowna is pronounced "Kuh-low-nuh". :)
this, a new e class (not the 4 cylinder though, whatever the next higher displacement one will be), or a ct6?
same as my Q.. What do you think? found the answer?
G90 = S Class
G80 = E Class
Luxury has always been about upgrade or additional options. G90 as a luxury...semi-luxury. And luxury for those whom deem it's case.
If I was in the market for a new car this car would be an option id consider.
good review besides from the excessive hand gestures.
I live in Vancouver ! is he live in Vancouver?
Last time I visited a Hyundai dealer they called our house steadily for 3 months. Pass.
Turtle crossing, slow down, nice!
G90 is awesome, I own the V8 reliability is a 10!
Very nice back as well as the front, of the car.
I'm sorry but both videos of this car all I saw and focused on was that moose knuckle, love him though!!
(the Genesis/G80 isn't quite large enough to make a *good* limo IMHO, however you do see them used as such here in Sydney)
wow in the UK the 2016 Genesis which would have been 45-50k is now 27K - bargain
Non disponible en France :( Hélas !!!
All could think about is messing with the person in the passenger seat if you were sitting in the back seat.
My favorite cars I love is GENESIS
Arriving just in time for a big recession. Wait for huge discounts next summer.
I would like to get one too..
No panoramic sunroof? What happen Hyundai?
It does come as an option.
the combination of a audi a8(gear), bmw 5(dash), a7(exterior)
A Luxury car is what it does for you...
Kind of mad that there is no panoramic sunroof in a car like this...
Luxury is experience
I am not a huge fan of that huge grille, which we see on every Lexus for around 3 years.
welcome to raincouver...
I would like Hyundai to contact me and share some serious staff that they need to be aware of regarding their products iny country.
I want this car!!!!
just needs a v12 option
yup, let's put that aside...
Not the dash but the centre console I just keep seeing the Audi a8
Same but the designer was from Audi so its understandable. Let's just hope it actually stays out of the shop, unlike Audi's.
+VizionWorksEditing thats an ignorant comment bro
not if you have owned an audi...
looks good but Idk if it's worth 65k for that price you could get a BMW or a Mercedes or even a hellcat but nice tho
These cars are awesome. But I think that 5.0 should put out 580HP and 680 Foot pounds of torque. Then it would play surely with BMW and MB
MIQUEL AVERY I totally agree that the power and Torque figures should be higher in order to be more competitive. However, unless they develop a V8 with forced induction, I don't think it's gonna happen. The reason the Torque figure is so low on this car because it's naturally aspirated. I think to get you your power figures they'd have to twin turbo the 5.0
well i will try it at my friends house
nice I like it
F to the D to the R...
Why do you keep walking around the car? Weird.
Lol that shit didn’t go nowhere
No more panoramic sunroof anymore
That wood looks so cheap, like the wood out of a 04 3 series
Wood trims are options. Looks nice in person
I don't know how you can determine that from an online video. Everyone knows by now things never look the same in any video versus in person.
Nice car. But too quiet for me
Moss-maserati mitchell
can't expect much noise from a luxury vehicle...
Hyundai Genesis they say you get what you pay for.. Not a AMG LOL
ms, miller
t looks cramped !
Too much talking!!!
Volvo s90 better
poor man's mercedes
Every luxury automaker like BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, Jaguar, etc. Is a poor man's Mercedes.
that doesnt make sense because those are all as expensive like mercedes. you would be right to say nothing compares to mercedes though
talk 2 much but just can not get to the point...
Audi should sue Hyundai for coping their cars. Hyundai has no creativity. The front end looks ripped right off an Audi A6 and the back looks like a wannabe Mercedes. They can try to make it look like the Germans as much as they can but it's still a damn Hyundai.
Peter Schreyer - have you heard of him? Google him and see where he has been and whete he is now
+Joon Choi where*
You can't blame Hyundai as a whole - they have excellent Korean/Int'l designers overall but most design proposals are shut down by the Big Chung.
Cheers
Copycat from Audi and MB, luxury must have prestige, ride comfort and performance. Imagine pulling this car at country club? Is that too much to ask?
This has ride comfort, the brand was seperated to give it more prestige, performance is saved for the G80 Sport. You are missing the point of the brand. You are getting what others offer for more than 10 grand less. I have no problem pulling this car up anywhere because it is nice, luxurious and I'm not a brand name snob who pays for that overpriced garbage.
this car and the g80 or genesis sedan get more looks and positive comments than just about any other sedan so i don't get your point. Do c or e classes get compliments daily despite costing more than the g80? Do they get mistaken for bentleys or 100k+ cars? not so much although the rear lights on the new c class are similar to the s class.
ugly car !!!
