The best part of shooting Braw is when you have to match other cameras or different codecs. I also have fully switched to Resolve too. IMO, the best feature of these cameras is the BRAW
I agree. The BRAW codec is so easy to work with and has zero problems with playing back a full res in Premiere Pro for me. Haven't quite made the jump to Resolve yet but I want to use Resolve more this year.
@@edwardleefilms It was ProResRaw files actually that made me move to Resolve. Premiere just had issues when trying to adjust the raw setting. Lag and crashes when just selecting the tab. I finally got so annoyed I made the switch. So far no issues and Resolve is pretty intuitive. I just ordered the Speed editor keyboard too
Great stuff. Totally agree with everything. Love my 6K. I bought pretty much every new camera announced this year, but just decided to stay with the 6K and rig it out even more because it's so good. Enjoy the content!
I think with the 6K, as future proof as it is, it can wait. When the mass market slowly adopts this resolution the price of a 6K (Blackmagic or otherwise) will certainly drop. Also you already have a good point with the fact that the file size is large. Having said that, if people wait to adopt 6K, you give time for also the storage aspect to catch up. So ... it just makes more sense to wait for the time being.
Two little downsides I forgot to mention in the video if you are considering either of these cams ⬇️ 1. NO CONTINUOUS AF - If you need autofocus and things like face tracking, this isn't the cam for you. But if you are trying to get into more professional video work, you really shouldn't be relying on autofocus anyway and should be practicing with pulling focus manually! 2. NO IBIS - Handheld filmmaking can be a bit tough with this camera because there in no in body stabilization. However, you could use lenses that have lens stabilization and this helps out a bit. But you will have to practice getting steady with your hands if you shoot handheld often. Another solution that helps out with this is getting a top handle or rigging out your camera to make it heavier. 3. NO PRORES IN 6K - If you want to shoot in ProRes all the time on the BMPCC 6K, you will only be able to shoot up to 4K in that codec. Something to keep in mind if you mainly shoot in ProRes! If you have any questions, drop them down below!
When did you make the jump from your A7III? Why did you do it? What have you missed from that setup? What do you find to be the main benefits of the switch?
Professional cinema work doesnt require you to pull focus unless you are the focus puller. Generally, a pro set will have a dedicated focus puller who is not the camera operator or the cinematographer.
This helps out tons with my decision making. Been eyeing these two for a while, but after watching this I’m feeling solid on the 6k. Crushing it as always with the content, thank you for all the great info fam!
Short answer... yes. Very worth the investment. lol! The one thing I don't get is the complaints about the body. Yeah, it could be different, but even with the cube cameras, the first thing people do is get a side handle on the right side. Z Cam. Kinefinity. RED DSMC2 and Komodos. Ursa Mini. and so on and so on. Even the C70 has that "handgrip" thing going on. But eh, to each their own. I got the 4K for the lens variety. I've adapted to PL and EF mostly but there are more options than that. I got the 6K to pretty much be my A cam and have that extra resolution for cropping and VFX work. Great video as always and solid points through and through! Keep it coming!

If you look up the dynamic range chart of the pocket cinema camera 4k/6k the higher iso actually prioritizes highlights and the lower iso prioritizes shadows. So if for you were to compare the two different native iso but compensate the exposure difference with an ND filter, 1250 would have more detail in the highlights while 400 would have more detail in the shadows.
How does that work? You would think higher ISO would allow you to see more in the shadows, and it would blow out highlights faster. Whats the science behind how that works?
@@dna8269 well the higher iso definitely pushes a lot of the shadows into the mid tones which is why I think you’d expect the high iso to have more shadow detail. If we are not doing any lighting the yes high iso captures more shadow information from a location only because we are exposing the “shadows” at a higher IRE. Lower ISOs have more latitude in the shadows which basically means that the shadows will have a cleaner look. So this doesn’t mean that if you are in a dark situation you should under expose your image with a low iso, it’s just saying if you are trying to create an image with rich detailed shadows a lower iso is best. I think a big part of this is because of the noise created by higher ISOs, most of the noise is in the shadows. I’m going to have to do a bit of research to give a better answer than that because I’ve mostly just seen the latitude ISO charts but not really looked into the why
Great job on this video, I learned a few things for sure. I'm a YT creator and won't be headed this direction, but I like learning more about digital film making. Cheers

@@edwardleefilms thanks for replying! Why do I see a lot of people using Sigma 18-35 on bmpcc4k? is it better? and as for prime option you still recommend using native MTF mount? or get a metabone speedbooster to get Canon lenses on? Thanks in advance

Hey Edward, Thank you for this video, It helped me alot for decision making lol. Just wondering, did you use tiffen black pro mist filter? if so what level?
I've used both of these cameras and I love both! but I think maybe in the future I will pick up a 6k to go alongside my 4k. If not, I may pick up a Ursa G2
Well actually, since you commented, Blackmagic has released the new BMPCC 6K Pro that has a tilt screen. Highly would recommend that camera over these two
I have the bbpcc 4k guy I film a lot of live theatre and interviews and came from Panasonic so I had lens for it and I only ever export 1080p video for my job (none are on my youtube channel)
Metabones offers edge to edge sharpness overall. the viltrox tends to soften up in the corners wide open-ish. plus i have heard reports of bmpcc firmware not always playing nice with the viltrox speedbooster. some actually had to revert their p4k firmware in order to fully use the viltrox (aperture control).
Yes, the viltrox works too! But I have seen reviews where the metabones is just more reliable. If I am already spending that much money on a camera and glass, i'd rather not put something cheaper in front of the sensor. But the vitrox one can totally work
dope video man, i love my 4k and will be getting the 6k soon as well😍 question tho! the grade of this video, ive been seeing it popping up here and there but no real tutorials on how to achieve this vintage-ish look. any quick tips?

Hi man! This is the best video abour BMPCC comparison so far. Super helpful. I'm a sony guy and I want to upgrade my video gear to the new Blackmagic 6k Pro, but I can´t find an adapter for sony E mount lenses to canon EF mount.. Do you know if there is a chance to use sony lenses in BMPCC? also, are you going to review the new 6k pro? regards from Spain
Hey dude! I don't think you can mount Sony glass to E-mount at the moment (if there is, it wont be reliable). If I were to not have either of these cams right now, I would 100% get the BMPCC 6K Pro. However, if you go that route, i'd probably recommend selling your sony lenses and getting canon. If you are already heavily invested into the Sony eco-system, I would definitely take a look at the Sony FX3
Nice work.. Beautiful footage keep up the Great work. If you don't mind me asking at what Shutter Speed, or Shutter Angle do you shoot with both cameras?
@@edwardleefilms Thanks I did get the 4K with gearoff craigslist. I have no film experience, so it will take some learning, which may be a good thing. I'll be watching your channel!
Great video! WHen you say screen grabs, are you literally doing screen shots or is there a way to output these images in Resolve? How does this process work?
I use Adobe Premiere Pro! There is an actual button below the timeline that screenshots a frame and saves it to your desktop. There should be a way to do that in Resolve!
Have you heard of anyone buying a cheaper micro 4/3 adapter, like Viltrox brand adapter, and seeing any results from it? As much as I want to get the heavily recommended metabones adapter, the $500 difference seems, 1. too good to be true and 2. worth a shot to at least give it a chance. Thoughts?
Hey thats a great question. Sorry for the late response. I think the metabones one is sorta steep in price but it is worth it over the cheaper ones. The connection feels more secure and you have more confidence on set that your features will work. The cheaper ones tend to not last as long and if it craps out on you during a shoot that would cost you more in the long term.
Hey, man. Like your video... have you ever had a hard time with matching colors, when mixing footage of the 4k with the 6k? Especially regarding the skin tones?
I wouldn't consider it a hard time but definitely a bit more tweaking. I've noticed that the footage that comes out of the 6K is just a bit easier to grade. The P4K definitely has a bit of a more color cast on skin for sure. Pretty minor but noticeable when color grading
İ have bmpcc 4k and im gonna buy 16"macbook pro with AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4g gpu, 16gb ram, i7 cpu pc. Can i edit this camera's braw footage in Davinci Resolve with this pc?
Well you dont need one for the 6K since it already takes Canon EF lenses! But the speed booster is nice for the 4K because it gives a whole extra stop of light
Great video! But I still can't decide ( So, i don't need 6K resolution and also the 6K only shoots 50 fps, and the rolling shutter is worse on the 6K, and i don't like the old EF mount, because you can't adapt anything to that. So it seems like 4K is the obvious choice, and yet... I don't really wanna mess up with speedboosters, even though I use one now with the original BMPCC.
@@edwardleefilms well, i heard the Pro has many issues and broken units, as it was with first 4Ks and 6Ks. BM has a bad quality control at the moment of launch, but they fix it in a few months. And yet, Pro has an EF, which is really limiting the lens choice. I wished they went with a mirrorless mount. Money is not the question, that's why I can't finally decide whether I want to mess with speedboosters, or stick only to EF
hello love the video, it helps a lot with my decision making. I have a question, do you really need IR cut filters with these cameras when using ND filters? I read/watched videos that IR pollution with these cameras is prominent when using ND filters.
I dont think so. Honestly haven't had any problems with that while using these cameras with ND Filters. I mainly use the Peter Mckinnon VND from PolarPro!
IR pollution is a HUGE deal and I have seen it with my own footage many times. If your subject is wearing, say black, in the sun and you have an ND filter to cut the light down then your black clothes will have weird color shifts; usually magenta/red/orange. It ruins the image, IMO. You can try to cut Saturation to the magenta channel in post to try to fix it but you ruin caucasian skin tones to get rid of it.
The 4K is is the best bang for the buck. Also the 4K shoots RAW at 4K but the 6K does not do RAW in 4K. The 4K also works nicely with the GH5S and the upcoming GH6 series. Lens sizes, especially at the tele end, means the camera is hand-holdable for longer periods of time - important by the end of the day. There are also many more vintage lens options that will adapt to the 4K than can be used on the 6K. When factoring in the price the 4K has got one heck of a lot of bang for that buck.
Hey! can you tell me some m43 lenses for 4k? I have searched several videos but they all use only the sigma and it is too much money. What brands do you recommend?
Yeah that's the downside of shooting in a higher resolution. I usually run with a new 20TB hard drive every year and noticed it gets pretty full after all my projects around December. I just make it a business expense though. I use the G-Technology G-Raid drives
I ordered a 6k, then cancelled the order lol. Just feel like it's not all there yet, not great for music videos and movies. Looks too digital to me and not have a great filmic look.. Good for everything else I guess. Just gonna save more money to get the Komodo, but I also want to wait to see what 2021 brings. CES 2021? Maybe BlackMagic get it right this time... BMPCC 6K Pro? Add Global Shutter, more organic look (sensor on this too sharp, the way it handles light feel funny like too much glow to where every gets white and hazey to the point where it's distractingI
Yeah those are valid points! I think the hazey look might be coming from people using pro-mist filters. But yeah I think blackmagic will come out with a fresh camera this year or early next. In my opinion though, you can't go wrong with the 6k due to the price. The Komodo is of course a better camera but it also cost as much as 3 BMPCC 6K cameras. So for filmmakers on a budget, I think the 6K is way more bang for the buck. But if you can afford it, the Komodo is much better!
@@edwardleefilms Is the Komodo really that much better though? Curious to hear your thoughts on this. The image quality seems Damn near the same on tests. In your view, why do you feel it’s much better / what aspects have you ranking it that high?

That is the exact reason I went with the 6k over the 4K. The 4k may be $1295 but with the Metabones its the same price of the of a 6k.
Good choice!
Great video man, totally agree !! :)
Man, coming from you guys. That means a ton! Thanks
SUper solid video bro! The blackmagics are super legit and fun to use!
Thanks dude! I love them. Sentimental attachment to the 6K for sure 😂
Great job on this video, I learned a few things for sure. I'm a YT creator and won't be headed this direction, but I like learning more about digital film making. Cheers

Thank you for watching. Yes! Would highly recommend either of these cameras if you're looking to up your video production a bit more
I have never had a real estate agent say blown out windows are good. Why do you chose to do this? The view of the city seems amazing
haha really? I get agents ask me to blow out the windows all the time. Not so much for downtown listing with nice views but sometimes if there isn't much of a view they would rather have the potential buyers not see whats outside.
would love to see what lenses you put on the bmpcc 4k, and happy new year!!
10/10 would recommend the Panasonic Lumix 12-35mm F2.8
@@edwardleefilms thanks for replying! Why do I see a lot of people using Sigma 18-35 on bmpcc4k? is it better? and as for prime option you still recommend using native MTF mount? or get a metabone speedbooster to get Canon lenses on? Thanks in advance
Hi bro, just subbed. Great content. Would love to know your thoughts on the C70 vs the P6K just solely based on the image quality and codecs. Keep us posted!
That's a good idea! I will most likely do some sort of comparison soon but C70 review video coming out this month first :)
Great review, thanks! Im new to this, i like to buy the 4K version but have no idea what kind of speed booster ond or what kind of lens i must buy for it to have the greatest image color and quality! What would you do? Preferably a lens with image stabilisator.
Thanks in advance.
I would get the Lumix 12-35 f2.8
Hey Edward, Thank you for this video, It helped me alot for decision making lol. Just wondering, did you use tiffen black pro mist filter? if so what level?
No problem! I did use one. It’s a 1/4 level.
I've used both of these cameras and I love both! but I think maybe in the future I will pick up a 6k to go alongside my 4k. If not, I may pick up a Ursa G2
You can't go wrong with either! The 6K and 4K as a A Cam and B Cam is a solid setup
When people say the downside to a cinema camera is that it doesnt have image stabilization 😂🤦🏻♂️
I mean we can wish right? hahaha. Wouldn't it be better than not having it?
Do we have to buy from a specific store to get the screen to tilt or?
Well actually, since you commented, Blackmagic has released the new BMPCC 6K Pro that has a tilt screen. Highly would recommend that camera over these two
you can also get a monitor that can hold a bigger battery that also powers the camera and kill two bird with on stone
I have the bbpcc 4k guy I film a lot of live theatre and interviews and came from Panasonic so I had lens for it and I only ever export 1080p video for my job (none are on my youtube channel)
Yep! So many creative ways to power the camera with the BMPCC!
Why would you recommend a Metabones speedbooster over a cheaper one like for eg. the Viltrox? Loved the video btw, great job!
But the vitrox one can totally work
@@edwardleefilms Thanks for the reply guys, appreciate it. I got a Viltrox myself for a G7 and was wondering what the difference was. Happy new year!
dope video man, i love my 4k and will be getting the 6k soon as well😍 question tho! the grade of this video, ive been seeing it popping up here and there but no real tutorials on how to achieve this vintage-ish look. any quick tips?

@@eonsberk Yes! You guys got it. Black Pro-Mist filter helps a ton with softening the footage to make it look more "vintage" or cinematic. I would also recommend picking up the BMPCC LUTs from www.thefilmfeel.com. Thats the one I use the most.
@@edwardleefilms yoooo thanks so much for the info man!
Amazing comparsion video and very honest! Btw does the 6K still offers 4K only on ProRes or they updated to 4K braw too?
I think they still only offer 4K in prores. But I haven't checked for an update in a while!

Great Video man!
Thanks dude!
Great content as always
Nice work.. Beautiful footage keep up the Great work. If you don't mind me asking at what Shutter Speed, or Shutter Angle do you shoot with both cameras?
Only shoot at the 180 degree shutter angle for all these clips! So just double the frame rate.

Sigma Art 18-35mm 1.8!!
Great vid my dude! What type of color grading do you use?
I edit and color in Adobe Premiere Pro and usually start with a base correction REC709 LUT!
@@edwardleefilms Okay. Thanks!
Are you using one of those pro-mist filters? I just about the 1/8 but these seems stronger like 1/4
Have you heard of anyone buying a cheaper micro 4/3 adapter, like Viltrox brand adapter, and seeing any results from it? As much as I want to get the heavily recommended metabones adapter, the $500 difference seems, 1. too good to be true and 2. worth a shot to at least give it a chance. Thoughts?
Hey thats a great question. Sorry for the late response. I think the metabones one is sorta steep in price but it is worth it over the cheaper ones. The connection feels more secure and you have more confidence on set that your features will work. The cheaper ones tend to not last as long and if it craps out on you during a shoot that would cost you more in the long term.
I just got it
Thanks for the video! Subbed!
@@edwardleefilms That's good to know. Thanks for replying.
İ have bmpcc 4k and im gonna buy 16"macbook pro with AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4g gpu, 16gb ram, i7 cpu pc. Can i edit this camera's braw footage in Davinci Resolve with this pc?
Yep with those specs you should be good!
What do you think about speed booster adapter for the 4K I don't know if they make one for 6K is it worth it
Well you dont need one for the 6K since it already takes Canon EF lenses! But the speed booster is nice for the 4K because it gives a whole extra stop of light
Great video!
But I still can't decide (
So, i don't need 6K resolution and also the 6K only shoots 50 fps, and the rolling shutter is worse on the 6K, and i don't like the old EF mount, because you can't adapt anything to that.
So it seems like 4K is the obvious choice, and yet... I don't really wanna mess up with speedboosters, even though I use one now with the original BMPCC.
I would highly recommend the new 6K pro. Beats both of these cameras for sure
Or get the P4K now since its cheaper most likely that the new cam is out
@@edwardleefilms well, i heard the Pro has many issues and broken units, as it was with first 4Ks and 6Ks.
@@edwardleefilms I also can buy Ursa Mini 4.6K, but it doesn't have BRaw, only Cinema DNG, so in this case, Pockets are more comfortable to edit
你已经有跟焦供电手柄了,为什么右侧还要再放一个跟焦轮?纯粹为了好看么?
hello love the video, it helps a lot with my decision making.
Yeah I see a lot of people freaking out about this. Totally wondering what’s the deal with those ir filters!
You absolutely SHOULD invest in an IR Cut filter. ND's on the pocket make your blacks a mddy brown. IR Cut filter fixes this.
Thx for The vid. Which camera do you Pick up The most when you Go shoot :)
I usually always grab the BMPCC 6K!
@@edwardleefilms In the video you said you grab the BMPCC 4K the most.
Debating on getting the 6K or waiting to see if Blackmagic turns out something in 2021.
mee too
Good call. My guess is that BM will come out with sort of a brain style camera to match the trends of other brands in 2021.
I couldn't agree more. For the price, the 4k is seriously a huge value!
Hey! can you tell me some m43 lenses for 4k? I have searched several videos but they all use only the sigma and it is too much money. What brands do you recommend?
how do you manage the storage? when I film on the 4k after a project it's usually over 100 GBS
Maybe a silly question. But what's the crop rate on the 4K with the metabones speedbooster adapter compared to the standard 6K?
Not a silly question! Metabones has a few different models but the ULTRA one I had was a crop factor of 1.35x

Most of these shots were with either the Sigma Art 18-35mm or 12-35mm Lumix lens
What about ir nd issues?
Can you use a Canon STM lens on the 6K?
yes you should be able to
When shooting is BRAW you get 12bit unlike with ProRes you only get 10bit so braw gives u the best out of the camera
is it true that if you shoot 4k on the BMPCC 6k the Quality is more detailed than the BMPCC 4k Camera?
hmm. I haven't done any tests for that exactly but in theory it would make sense. Because the sensor size is larger so it'll have more information to produce a cleaner image
