@@jasonkrick1614 😂 Fr, I don't even know why I do this, as in watching these videos and reading books on this topic, when I know I can do it and I have been doing this for a while now. I blame the overthinking and constant isolation
@@tracyphoenixx I agree with you. Growing up as a kid. I was really shy. I felt insecure and insignificant in every which way. Long story short. I realized one day as a young adult. bro as a 20yr old literally same. I don’t even think it’s about practicing from a book it’s about being able to put to perspective and truly understanding your intentions in which over time you’ll find solutions to on your own.
I think its important to recognize that there will be people who also take advantage of certain kinds of kindness and then have expectations of you to treat them with the same level from then on without reciprocating the energy with you. sometimes its better to just keep to yourself.
@@HekaVerse it’s time you say yes to yourself and say no to others. They come to you when they have issues anyways. Keep those who fuel you, I guess. I’m still working on this, so

You don’t have to continue that kindness to rude people but if you’re not open because of some peoples rudeness, you might miss out on the important people in your life
My biggest takeaway from How to Win Friends... is that when you engage in conversation with adults, it's always paramount to make the conversation about the other person that you are speaking with. And you know what - it works!- it generally makes you more likeable. However it makes you realizes that most people you are engaging with really are self-centered because start realizing and counting number of times the other person pulls the conversation back to themselves just by using the phrase 'well I did such and such' or dime turning the topic back to themselves.

As a 60 years old man who broke each and everyone of these rules, I can tell that they are true. Advice for the young: do not be fooled by anything else. Follow these rules by the letter. If it means losing somebody, so be it. They were not worthy.
As a 25 year old woman, I can tell you that people have caught on to these tactics and in the workplace we call it corporate phoniness and it makes us feel manipulated.
@@emmythrashergot into this trap using those tactics as a teenager couple of years ago. The thing is I should have changed the shape of that advice and simply appear natural. Politeness still works and will forever
@@emmythrasher then they forgot something "being genuine", if something's bad and doesn't want your criticism then dont give it and when something's really good in your eyes and you want to compliment it then go for it just be genuine about it
The thing I hate about this is I did a lot of this naturally most of my life. I always had no issue making people like me. After awhile, I realized I’m consistently the only one putting work into the relationship. Every relationship… People around me get comfortable and maintain friendship/relationship cruise control, while all the heavy burden of nurturing and tending the relationship falls onto me. One day, I just stopped. Surprise surprise, most the people I considered close friends just vanished. What is the solution to making balanced friendships where you yourself aren’t the anchor to the whole friendship? It’s exhausting and lonely having no one putting work into me the way I put work into others.
I suggest making friends in situations where teamwork is needed. Join a sports team where people have to get personal and cooperative. You won't find a sports team where only one person puts in effort. Maybe join a club that you are interested in.
The older I get the more I only put my time into the people that equally reciprocate my excitement about them and love of who they are and their heart. It’s helped separate a lot of “the wheat from the chaff”
This advice on focusing entirely on the other person is clearly bonkers and doesn’t lead to fulfilling personal relationships. Maybe this advice could be applied to a competitive work setting or something like that, idk. But in general, it can be off-putting when the person you’re talking to is constantly re-directing the focus of the conversation back to you and trying to get to know you without giving you as much detail about themselves. Overall, I’ve learned that the best, most genuine way to make friends, real ones, is to get to know people and their desires while also letting them get to know you and your desires, so that you can see how they line up and help each other fulfill them. Basically, collaboration.

@@quantlight I recommend you to read or listen to the book or audiobook. The stories Dale tells in his book are really good and help applying the concepts in the real world
@quantlight Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence dives deeply into the nature of human beings. Rather than simplifying it as "humans are creatures of emotions," it distinguishes between the two aspects. Yes, humans are creatures of emotions, but they are also capable of logic. The question is, why do our emotions sometimes take over? How can we manage our emotions effectively? And why do individuals with lower IQs sometimes succeed more than those with higher IQs? This falls within the realm of emotional intelligence.
