The comments here are a little ignorant about the Neo Geo... The carts themselves are not cheap to develop and produce. While I agree the price is quite steep at $620, you are getting the ability to play every Neo Geo game on actual hardware without emulation. I will definitely get one someday, although I do not have the money for one right now. To those comparing those 161-in-1 Chinese carts, don't make me laugh. Those things are piles of garbage, the NeoSD and Darksoft AES multi are definitely in a league of their own, no question. I would like to see some more competition in the Neo Geo flash cart market, maybe that would help bring prices down. But being as niche as it is, I doubt we will see that.
Indeed; I'm not even an AES collector, since I grew up playing Neo-Geo ports as a kid on my faithful Sega Saturn (thanks to the RAM carts the loading times were usually reasonable; plus, I could also play the Capcom CPS2 ports on this system),
or even SuperNes for the really good ports like Fatal Fury Special (for the time it was a quality port, all the video games magazines gave it high ratings), and I would even buy Game Boy games like KOF95, World Heroes 2 Jet, etc...
When I became a teenager with more money, I got lucky and found someone who sold me his Neo.Geo CD 2 (on my small island it was very rare to find good games, even the Saturn was pretty rare; thank Kami we had arcades and lots of SNK games there) and I bought a Neo.Geo pocket color the day it came out...
But I was never able to own the holy grail, the Neo AES (or the next best thing, a MVS).
So I'm clearly not the targeted market, and I still understand the value of the NeoSD Pro; I guess you had to grow up in that time period to understand why the Neo AES is seen as such a rolls royce for consoles...
There are *lots* of stuff when it comes to video game that, even as a young one getting into the hobby, you can easily understand why it was popular;
For example, about the hand held systems wars, the Game Boy was black&white and non-backlit screen, but won because but there was a lot of extremely good games on it, was cheap, and it consumed fewer batteries than the Game Gear than was in color and backlit, or the Lynx that had a color LCD screen but didn't have a lot of great games.
Easy to digest, no need to have lived it to get why people were drawn to the GB... but the Neo.Geo? Now that arcades are pretty much dead, kids can't salivate while watching the latest Fatal Fury, marvel at the size of the charas in Arts of Fighting, go nuts while watching Metal Slug and all the sprits on the screen at the same time without slowing down...
We all loved playing Street Fighter 2 turbo at home with friends, but the SNK fighting games were on another level. You don't really have comparison today; even back when I was in high-school you could make a comparison with computers; most people had one, but when friends wanted to play together on "big" game that needed powerful machines to run, they went to the cyber-café.
LANs before every kid had his own laptop were a rare occurence, and we could only play "old" games with our modest machines.
But right now I'm not sure what to compare it to, so the modern kids/consumers could have a frame of reference (not sure if it's the right expression, my english is pretty rusty)
Sorry about the essay, TLDR: it's probably a generation thing more than ever, since we have nothing similar today in term of quality/price debate.
Bought one of these , been into Neo Geo since 1997 - it’s great . Great vid mate . Worth every penny . Have 30+ carts but have a family and a mortgage , now I’m able to play every game I couldn’t afford .
Swapped my PS1 for a Neo back in the day (?!) PS1 and 3 games for a Neo and Mag Lord ..
For $600 you can get an MVS rig up some controllers plus the 161/1 cart & still have money left over for a Big-Mac.
Glad to hear that you are pleased with the NeoSD Pro!
Great product. Really enjoying it . Thanks
I just became aware of the NeoGeo recently, but cant decide between a AES or a Jamma Nation consolized MVS
would be cool if the screenshot in the menu can be manually done with pixel perfect logo, instead of scale down blurry screenshot of the intro screen. Aside from that, everything about the UI HUD is perfect
WoW. Neo Geo collecting is expensive. How can they justify? This obviously for the hardcore collector at that price.
Unfortunately it's not uncommon to see a NeoGeo AES game go for over $1,000, so spending $600+ on a flash cart seems reasonable by comparison. The boomers that grew up in the 90s, wishing they had a NeoGeo now have more money than time and the games on this system cater to people who play 5-30 minutes at a time.
@edek You have a huge opportunity on your hands if you can produce one to sell at $100.
@@jackdavis6603 you must mean millennials? I grew up in the 90s, I'm in my 30s.
@edek these are not everdrives. They are very expensive to produce and is why it took so long to even see a flash cart. Lots of expensive chips across 2 pcbs to copy the neogeo hardware which is also horribly complicated. That said if you're not picky about accuracy and a complete rom set, the 161 in 1 is a good option for around $50.
@@poodudeelite No, millennials always complain about not being able to afford houses and Neo Geos.
I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get a $120 EverDrive for my GameBoy and this dude drops $600 on a Neo Geo Flash cart.
Exactly!
You can get a 161 in 1 cart for $50
I'd love to get into Neo Geo collecting. But I wouldn't get to enjoy it for long, because my wife would literally murder me. Haha.
I have this one and I had ALOT problems... but Finally now it is working ....
I like flash carts and hdd mods, and I also still buy real games for certain titles that I love. Great video dude.
Love your channel bro. It's cool to see someone focus their content on some other consoles rather than just nintendo. I would love to get an AES And a Flash cart some day. Maybe I will go the route of a consolized MVS and get the MVS version of the Flash cart
Seeing Super Dodge Ball in a loadout and it not getting picked for demoing triggers something primordial in me lol.
Man its cool seeing different Neo Geo quality. Looks like u don't get that green screen bit upon load up with the more official hardware. Definitely cool. I'd hit it up after I buy some other consoles I want. I remember a video store near me as a kid was the only time I saw a Neo Geo as a kid. They had them for rental. It was around when laser disks where around.
Pumping out the videos I see, nice!
Its like night and day from the last one you reviewed with all the sound issues.
I love the 4 rom slot feature. And that menu looks pretty slick. Definately i'll be getting one once i'm done with the consolization or my MVS
I love the NeoGeo, but I gotts bills!! Would love to own one for my consolized MVS! But cant justify a $600 cart to put into my sub $200 MVS... my 2 cents
For the MVS I think most are happy with the 161 in 1 to get a taste of a lot of the library on the cheap.
you can use mvs carts on the aes with an adapter, which is expensive btw
@@edwin8808 you can get the adapters for around $200 nowadays. I dont have one so cant speak on em much... But I do have more MVS carts than AES ones.. And I have 2 MVS systems lol. Yeah I am addicted to neo geo
Yes. Ron too much for me. Yes, you have an addition problem :)
@@edwin8808 fusion adapter is $60 and works perfectly.
I might get one but 600 is a hefty price. I do agree with the comments about development costs, the ability to play every neo geo game plus all the updates that will come around. You're in for a serious piece of hardware. I totally dropped the thought of getting a 161 in 1 cart. The neo sd (previous version) dropped in price (350) and is as interesting for those who don't need cd option or 4 slots necessarily.
Ron = Madlittlepixel RETRO EMU DICTATOR 😂😂😂🦄😋😋😋
"Don't come here on my channel to disagree!!! ""!
MegaLol
😋
bump! peace!
This thing is awesome! The only thing it's missing, especially for that price, are save states.
Great video, I bought the original NeoSD upon release and apart from the cart case I have been more than satisfied with it. I don't think upgrading is worth it for me, though the reduction in load times and the multislot make it worth the extra cost if you are a new buyer in my opinion.
I also wonder what will happen price wise once the Chinese start replicating flash carts for the Neo Geo, they seem to have ripped off Krikzzs versions of most other flashcarts.
Oh yeah the case for the original NeoSD was bad... I thought the piece that was across the 2 pcbs were gonna break on mine.
i also own this, what a great product, love TO products, great quality and good support.
Some of their products have a piss poor quality though, not to mention outright illegal customer security.
@@relo999 I have all their products, never have a problem with TO.
And this is why I love emulation 😂
@Keil Miller i didn't say it was. i was talking about emulating games for free on PC. That's why i put the laughing emoji, laughing at the people who would pay $600. 🤦♂️ .
I don't like emulation. I always try to play retro games on original hardware.
You love emulation because you can't afford the an AES and Neo Geo cart. That's the real reason. If you love playing on original hardware, and not a peasant. You get one of these.
@@tangosucka2000 economically literate people don't spend half their wage on children's toys
@@sukaslav5500This isn't expensive for me and many others. I have a great paying job. Half your wages, who do you work. Fast food joint or ? And why are you here on this vid? Maybe find a self help video that shows people to find better paying jobs or something before watching a video on a thing you can't afford, and then making people that can seem like stupid, irresponsible children. We are gaming enthusiasts and choose to spend our money on things like this. It's our money, whether you think it's a kids toy or not. And if people want and cant afford one straight up, they can save up a bit each week.
Crazy I own both versions 😎
Subbed finally after watching way too many of your videos.
My main question is does this have the ability to update firmware or anything in case they change it down the line? Is it something they've done in the past?
Getting my AES next week and I was VERY impressed by the SD PRO I was able to play around with at a meet up.
Thanks for subscribing~
Yeah there is updateable firmware. You register your serial # to their site and it gives you access to downloads.
I know this is for the AES and now they have one for the MVS for less money.
As long as the 161 in 1 cart is available for a small fraction of this price, I would say absolutely not worth it.
If it would someday have real collector value, I'd give it a maybe. Since it's not authentic SNK hardware it will never have collector value. I will stick with my $60 161 in 1 cartridge. The newer MVS Pro version of this flash cartridge costs more than my consolized MVS system, RGBS to HDMI adapter, RetroBit 2.4GHZ controller and a 161 in 1 cartridge combined.
For the less than the cost of this flash cartridge alone, I have a complete Neo-Geo setup with wireless controller, RGBS to HDMI up-scaled to 720p adapter that also has audio over HDMA, the 161 in 1 cartridge and even a black cartridge shell for the 161 in 1.
It's very hard to justify the cost of a flash cartridge that costs more than a full featured working system with games.
I would like to have the MVS version of this cartridge for my MVS system but if the price exceeds $100 I would certainly pass.
At the current price, I can't take it seriously.
It has nothing to do with not being able to afford it. It's simply WAY too much money for what it is and other options do exist.
I had wanted a consolized MVS Neo Geo system for a long time. I bought the finest stainless steel cased model I could find. I think it's a beautiful piece of hardware and I'm proud to own it. That said, most of the time I play Neo Geo games through emulation.
I'm certainly not a "real hardware only" purist type. I'm just glad we still have all these retro games available to play. Everyone can decide if emulation or real hardware is best for themselves. There is no wrong way as long as it's working to your satisfaction.
I just watch everything I can from you 600$ yikes this might only by for those hardcore fans.
I can buy a full sized Neo Geo Arcade cabinet here in Australia for a little over $1000 with a few games inside. I would feel pretty sad just getting a cartridge for half that amount.
You could get a consolized MVS and literally every game with the Darksoft/This SD multicart for a fraction of the price. 4 games vs 160 actual game backups. Not Chinese multicarts that lag and are glitchy.
What size micro SD card will I need to fit every Neo Geo game (AES and CD). Thank you.
Who the hell would pay $600 for this.
people that would not spend 35000USD+ for the equivalent number of games in cartridge version
So glad I started collecting for the Neo Geo years ago when prices weren’t as ridiculous as they are now. Looking at current prices is just insane, a flash cart makes sense if you can afford it but still it’s a lot of money to cough up. 🤮
they should just make a console that just accept neo geo games with sd card slot
They have released the next 10 games for the Japanese Mega Drive !
Yeah looking forward to the genesis mini
Do that thang say 549 alien munys? Roughly translated to $600? Ya'all crazy.
Anyway, love your channel, keep up the good work Trickster!
The best approach is get a chinese multi-cart for real hardware, and a single computer board to emulate. $600 for an everdrive !! too expensive!!
even a mister is cheaper :D
Yeah I'll stick to my KAWAX runing on my 20 dollar og XBOX it runs every single Neo Geo AES/MVS peeerfectly...no issues.
Just rushed to get one... See the price... and run! I'll make do with a PI Zero W. If they's things were cheaper they would sell loads!
Great review! Would you ever be interested in selling this cart?
If it's worth only 100-150 usd I may buy it, due to the situation of such long loading time, some biggest games like the Garou mark of wolves, Samurai showdown V and the KOF 2K2 may take near 3 minutes or even longer to be loaded.
Once loaded into a slot if you keep them there they load up instantly whenever you boot up the cart and select one of those games. If you constantly flashing new games, yeah it takes time.
A bro where can I actually find the rom’s for the neo sd pro and what’s the website where I can purchase one of them.
Great video!!!!!
Very cool 👍
Yeah, I still think i'll stick to the Sega Saturn :|
Can anybody tell me if there are games already flashed when we purchase this thing or do we have to manually do all of it?
I don't get it, why spend 600$ when you can play in emulation... With 600$ I have a video projector HD, raspberry pi and 2 arcade sticks wireless..
You don't get it? Ok, let me put it to you like this. Would you prefer a fleshlight, or an actual women?
Is there a video showing how to update the firmware for the AES Multi?
With only being a Mac guy is there anywhere I could pick up a fully loaded micro sd card for this if I ordered one?
Do you notice any noticeable difference from the orginal AES version of games and the Sd pro version? I really want a neo geo AES. Wanted one since the 90s.
@@StephanieHua awesome thanks. Now I gotta find an aes one on the market somewhere
Right on. Does it matter at all what Rom version the Aes has? I don't know I heard some tauting that an older Rom version of the AES is better... Yeah I do appreciate more the old school arcade playing style of games. I think gameplay took a backseat over the years as games became more about cinematics and being more mainstream with everything else. (although I would say that even Neo Geo fell in the trap a bit with the fighting games) but they did them well still.
@@StephanieHua You're a cool guy, thanks for that info.... Well dang, I hope I get the right version of the AES to work with this NEO FLASH since it looks like this is the best version of the multigame carts you can get for the Neo Geo.
So does the pro version flash games faster than the first one
What ever your job is, can I work there too? lol Man your always buying stuff. At any rate, any of the flash carts are worth it if you got the money.
This channel is my job. 😆
@@Madlittlepixel Well that settles that mystery lol. Then keep up the good work 👍
I just bought this today. Black Friday. I read this supports neoCD games too?? How easy is this to set up the sd card?
You have to use a program to format your neo geo roms to work on it, but its fairly straight forward. I had the non pro version prior to this so I just swapped the SD card.
Me too. I still have the regular NeoSD and glad I just move the cards over. Are you able to put a link for the conversion process for neoCD games? Thanks!
8gb USB 3.0 6 pounds 2 100% compatible emulators can run it on PC or android total cost 6 pounds English full rom set plus hacks free. Save states and full cheat set
I was looking at a custom mvs console with one of these flash carts. The price scares me a bit. Heavy thinking.
I do find FBA plays neogeo good enough. thou it has some capability games not running. It plays most of them,
so what would you recommend? darksoft or terraonion?
Terraonion, only because I havent had any issues with the pro, but a ton of issues with darksoft. I dont really care about either company as I do have issues with both, nothing crazy, but if I had to pick that would be it.
@@Madlittlepixel alright thank you for the response man. then i have to wait, till they filled up their stock again.
Wait does this $600 flash cart not support save states?
nope.
@@Madlittlepixel Why doesn't it?
30 years after and neogeo is still a console for rich people 😂😂😂. $600 for a flashcart.
Taking a massive 3 mins to load a game.😱
Took 40 mins bitd on my Acorn Atom..
😂🤣😂🤣
No it's not worth $600 I downloaded neo rage for free and have basically every SNK arcade game ever made for free..
Hi i am a die hard Neo Geo fan i just need to know is the graphics of this Flash cart the game in there same as the original Aes game ?? And is the sound the same level ??
If I buy a use Neosd pro can I re-register the Neosd?
If the seller removed it from the account yes not a problem. If not it could be an annoyance having to ask terraonion to unregister it or hoping the seller will unregister it for you. The seller may have never registered it to begin with as well.
naah, the Snes classic fix the need alright...
550 € or 600 $ to buy an everdrive?!?! i would rather buy an aes/mvs converter with a 161 in 1!!! that would cost me not even the half of that expense... they simply crazy
@Keil Miller the multicart still looks like a very affordable option compared to this "everdrive"
i would never put 600 $ in that, might be the half of it still not sure
Is there a MVS pro version of this too?
Never mind it just came out today lol.
$600? Geez
I could buy a brand new PS4 and a new Xbox one for the price of this cart 😁
$600 is way too much for a flash cart
Its cost more than neo geo Aes console wtf but it worth
no
not worth it is flash cart ! not a original game i rather buy 1 neogeo game for 600 like sonic wings 2 for the aes and let sonic wings increase it price value on your collection or closet
with a flash cart you cant do.and it will get cheaper after new versions or updates you r getting ripoff here
First inkling 0/
I mean I'd love to have a Neo Geo, I have the Neo Geo X Gold.... which is probably the closest I'm ever going to get.
