The weird limitations on the Neo Geo PCM channels weren't specifically decided by SNK btw they're just how the Yamaha 2610 sound chip was designed. It was a "kitchen sink" sound chip that has PCM, 4 operator FM and PSG channels all in one device.

Bought an AES over the summer and was looking for one of these, but couldn’t snag one on eBay in time. But I found a Darksoft Multicart which was cheaper than both the NeoSD regular and Pro, so it worked out... especially knowing the one thing I want from the Pro, playing CD games, doesn’t even work with that well with the music (and it’s not like there is a large selection of exclusive CD games)
Neo geo is a fascinating console that recently got back into trying run through emulation. The controller or joystick board is still baffling me to this day because it only had four base buttons and start/select buttons, while super nintendo and genesis had six buttons. I'm glad you're covering this. Thank you, keep up the good work.

The AES console doesn't even cost that much and is much neater. At first I didn't think it was worth it but I got sick of how crap the 161 in 1 carts are and you get a nice shell and case so it looks like the type of thing you would buy in a shop. I like to pretend I'm a rich person from 1992 by playing this. I have always use the ram to load the games, I don't see much point in having flash memory but some people on the neogeo forums insisted that it was the most important thing ever to be able to switch games like in the arcade. I'm currently playing panic bomber, I don't want to rush through all the games so I'm playing the early ones first. Neo geo doesn't have that many games but its not like Genesis which has 20 really crappy NFL games, every game is something that you would want to play. And emulation is pretty good until you get to a game that doesn't work right and those pandora boxes have bad input lag.

I was lucky enough to get the AES Pro version when it first launched. People complain about the price but original Neo Geo carts especially some of the rare titles can go for over $600 alone, so in the end its more than worth it. Terraonion themselves have said that these are too expensive of a product to be sitting around so who knows if they are discontinued or not? You may have a collectors item Joe.
It's one of those things I think the cost to produce is going to WAY below it's price but it's a price you can charge when the games them self's can be more then this 1 flash cart
I love the "I have no idea" hahah :D GG man when it's related to neogeo we become freakin crazy :s thanks for the review but still it's expensive compared to Darksoft multigames
I used to love the NEO GEO MVS machines at my local arcade. I’m pretty sure I saw and played all the games that were launch titles them and the home system. The home system was always an aspirational system for me. Too expensive to afford, but I could always dream! Thanks for sharing this Joe!
I actually just bought a Neo Geo AES console, after wanting one forever. It is the only console I own that I know I will not be able to afford a decent collection of original software for. So I will be getting a flash cart or everdrive for it, which is not something I use for my other sytems. Thank you for making this video and congratulations on your score.
Other shows are weenie systems but Game Sack is a REAL HOT DOG
That end skit made me think Joe should read audiobooks for a living.
I could listen to you say slot all day
I love the "I have no idea" hahah :D GG man when it's related to neogeo we become freakin crazy :s thanks for the review but still it's expensive compared to Darksoft multigames
I used to love the NEO GEO MVS machines at my local arcade. I’m pretty sure I saw and played all the games that were launch titles them and the home system. The home system was always an aspirational system for me. Too expensive to afford, but I could always dream! Thanks for sharing this Joe!
I'm totally getting the amateur version so I can play all the non pro versions of the games!
The Neo Geo, the true Rolls Royce of gaming
I actually just bought a Neo Geo AES console, after wanting one forever. It is the only console I own that I know I will not be able to afford a decent collection of original software for. So I will be getting a flash cart or everdrive for it, which is not something I use for my other sytems. Now I can enjoy the latest Gamesack episode and see if the AES version this device would be a good option for me. Feels like I have some lucky timing!
@Lassi Kinnunen can’t say I blame them for going with a less expensive choice.
JFC, Neo Geo games have aged amazingly well. Best pixel art in the biz.
