At 5:10, for 5 minutes, Jeff Coffin as soloist, Carter Beauford as God the Percussionist meet. Their musical conversation is one of the great moments in live music making. Jeff's incalculable technical vocabulary and Carter's virtuosity collide to make moments that the other player's carry with great reverence and the crowd feed's with ferocious praise. Jeff's licks at 7:14 and 8:42 are musical improvisation of the highest order. The way Carter accompanies Jeff is a lesson for any human capable of understanding musical conversation. I was there. I remember the rush of emotion I felt during this solo and the energy these men bestowed on the masses. Unbelievable. I feel it the same every time. Then Tim Reynold has something to say...the brilliance is oozing from them at Wrigley!
rockne46 I'm 51 and my best friend and I have to agree. Been friends for 29 years and just the other night he put the listener supported version on full blast and I felt the same as when I first heard it. Of course we were 3 sheets to the wind and high as hell. This song never loses it's freshness and each version brings out a new flavor. Jeff is good but I miss the hell out of the GrooGrux king! RIP LeRoi.
I agree... I'm a Virginia boy...been a fan since the beginning...this song just embodies... how much these guys just love making music together...and when you see them live... it's an experience you won't forget...
This and the live-recorded "Listener Supported" are my favorite versions of this song. It's just such a beautiful piece of music and both performances are so incredible.
this is my favorite song of all time I wanted to stay I wanted to play I wanted to love you I'm only this far And only tomorrow leads the way I'm coming waltzing back and moving into your head whoa.
I caught Carter's drumstick at the end of this show. Missed the encore because everyone around me kept trying to steal it. Thank god the limo was right outside. I spin that stick every once in a while for good luck. IT WORKS TOO!!!!
Found my way down to the field for these shows - what a weekend. And we got to hear "The Last Stop" as anticipated all summer. Thanks for posting! Brings back the memories!
This is one of the bwst songs ive heard In a while, going through a fucked up bewak up but this and two step completely erased that bs from my heart and mind

Once again, Carter plays like he's got 6 arms and 3 legs... Mind-blowing. What a great version of my favorite all-time tune.
I like how he invites everyone over to jam with a smile
Carter is so ridiculously amazingly talented.
I'm 52! And to Me #41 is close to being the greatest song I've ever heard!😀

I mean he has to play on a number 5 reed on that tenor. My god. The power is absolutely insane.
Sensacional, veria mais 1 milhao de vezes!
Holy Shit that was fierce!
We’re you under the bridge on a boat? When that exploitive is used around the DMB in Chicago it has another meaning.

Anyone know when this concert was?
09 I think
need to learn how to play sax after that
Terrific. Though playing with your back to the audience for five minutes straight is generally frowned upon...
You don't listen with your eyes buddy.
They're all playing to the Drummer..because he set the tone for the whole show...if you can hold on...and not fuck it up...:)
