Thanks for the video. Was getting significant vibration when shifting from park to reverse while in reverse with foot on the brake. Either had to be transmission mount or engine mounts so I started with the less expensive option first. Installed after-market Uro transmission mount for about $35. Worked like a charm. Here are the torque settings that I used. a) Small Bracket (6:00 min mark) 3 triple-square bolts 30 ft lbs; b) Large Bracket (6:45 min mark) 4 large triple-square bolts 52 ft lbs; c) three nuts (7:20 mark) 15 ft lbs; d) Metal Bar (7:45 min mark) 2 triple-square bolts 15 lbs PLUS 90 degrees.
Super helpful. Am trying to drop my transmission filter on my 2018 SQ5 and it's blocked by a similar subframe cradle. However on the SQ5 the subframe cradle also has support mounting brackets for the dual exhaust pipes on both sides. When I drop the subframe cradle I've got support for the transmission with another floor jack but the dual exhaust pipes on both sides also drop. Looks like it's less of an issue for the Q5 and I just have to get another pair of jackstands. Thank you for the excellent walkthrough - helped me troubleshoot how to tackle my scenario.
Hey it’s my car!! 🙏🏽 I super appreciate you!!
Drives and shifts a 100x better now😁❤
@@Mechani_Cole Well, if it's your car, you should know that the original bracket must NOT be used together with the insert.
@@AlexandruKrp you can in fact use the original bracket still🤙🏼
@@Mechani_Cole You can use whatever you want. But the recomandation is NOT to use it if you installed the insert. The insert has a counterbore where the screw head must fit.
@@AlexandruKrp I can post a image. There is no counterbore, this mount is flush across the top.
But honestly, it wouldn't make much of a difference with or without it. If you don't want it on there, then can easily just leave it off😬
Is there something similar in the 3.2 B7? When I push the car it feels like the transmission is moving around violently. Great video.
Yes, good question! I just changed the one on my 3.2 as it was broken, check it out ua-cam.com/video/T1hoBfAG7Xw/v-deo.html
I don't think there is an insert but a new mount helped mine a ton!
Thank you for you video very helpful. Where can I see the torque measurements?
Transmission mount bolts to subframe are ~25 nM
Had to sub after this one. Leaving a light in drive is so sloppy. In S mode it’s better but I’m installing this. Have you seen the video that shows it from underneath while shifting! Jeezus there’s a lot of a slop.
Yeah it's wild the design of these! I've had this on the wife's Q5 now for at least 2 years. Much smoother all around!
I think those bolts are torque to yield aka stretch bolt one time use
Think you have to get new ones don't you? They physically deform when tightened
The 2 bolts in the middle? Yeah you can always use new hardware if you want.
Wondering if before you changed the transmission mount assembly, did you have noise/vibrations in the cabin? I swapped out the motor mounts with Street Density mounts and got very noticeable vibrations. Had my shop remove the trans insert that fills the void and it somewhat minimized the vibrations but a rather noticeable amount still exists. Wondering if I should replace the transmission mount assembly and maybe try the ECS transmission bushing insert as well to remedy the vibrations. Car has 120k, A4.
I had a transmission insert for a week on my 16 A4 and it made the car feel like a an absolute beater. I thought I ruined it. I bought a used but very good condition A8 mount and now no jerks and it’s direct fit. Now it’s very clean shifting and no funny noises either
Thanks for sharing that, good to know! I added the insert to my wife's Q5 and it helped a ton. Makes it drive way nicer without jerking shifts. I have heard similar stories though about it that you experienced. Good to know about the A8 mount though. Wonder if it fits my 4.2 A6?🤔
Cornelius the street density mounts will 100% add more vibration to the cabin. They even say in the description that they will cause more vibration. It's more for a street racing application, not so much a daily driver as it makes it very stiff. Stiffer polyurethane is what you are feeling.
@@Mechani_Cole the description on 034 site for Street Density motor mounts actually states “manufactured with 45 durometer damping medium to limit unwanted NVH transfer into the cabin.” That’s why it bothered me when I had this extreme amount of vibrations in the car. As a result 034 recommended that I remove the 034 billet transmission insert, which I did, and it decreased the NVH slightly I would say; but still noticeable NVH. I’ve ordered a new transmission mount assembly as well as ECS’ poly transmission insert to attempt to remedy the vibrations I currently have. Haven’t received the parts as of now so couldn’t provide any results. 034 DID however mention their transmission insert would possibly cause NVH if I’m not mistaken, yet I never had any issues with it until installing their motor mounts.
@@FakeMorgue why an A8 transmission mount over a stock A4 mount? Just curious, this is my first time hearing of this.
That tool that drill the bolt out faster, where can I get it pls?
Linked in description
2012 Q5 won't engage transmission, light stays at P when moving shifter to D & reverse. Shift linkage cable issue or bushing broken?
Likely linkage or transmission control module. Probably not a broken bushing
Can you provide the torque spec?
I fitted this to my 2008 A4 B8 2.0 TDI, it made the car vibrate while idling. I rechecked the bolts were tight enough, then removed and refitted. Still vibrating. Refitted the old plate and the vibrating is gone.
Sounds like you need new engine/trans mounts
What would happen if you were to not replace the mount ans use that plate on a worn out mount
Then it will vibrate against the mount. Best to replace both at the same time
@@Mechani_Cole thanks dude
@@Mechani_Cole mine hard downshift when getting into first on decel I imagine my mount is toast on my s5
I think I had the opposite experience with this mount, it did not improve anything and I think made things worse. everytime I start the car there's a much more obvious clunk/harsh knock that wasn't there before, I also don't notice smoother shifting or anything
I've heard a few others say the same. But they didn't change their transmission mount as well usually. I still own this car and it shifts smooth with almost no vibration. Although I do need to replace the engine mounts soon🤔
@@Mechani_Cole yeah true i only used the insert, it might be worth replacing the whole mount but I want to remove the insert and see if it feels any better
Yeah, I had the same experience. Not sure what could be causing this, only upon the start up, does anyone know or have any suggestions?
Replace the whole mount. Not just add the insert. If still hard vibration, then likely your engine mounts need to be replaced. Very common🫡
@@Mechani_Cole what are typical signs that the whole mount needs to be replaced?
This is just for “quattro” right ?
Fwd is not the same ?
All the Q5's are quattro
Can this mount-inserts fit to B9 S-tronic ?
Not 100% sure. Double check the description and see if it lists your car for this part
SQ5 has a completely different 8-speed transmission.
It does for sure.
Is it for audi a4 2012?
Yes, works for that as well. Link in the description. Makes a huge difference in my opinion!
@@Mechani_Cole awesome. Thank you
