  • In this week's motorhome life video we journey to a village that straddles the border of France and Spain. We encounter unexpected snowfall, leading to challenges with water supply and being stranded in a snowstorm. Despite the difficulties, we find a hot spring to relax in and enjoy the stunning views of the snow-covered landscape. We decide to stay in the area for a few more days to fully experience the beauty of the surroundings.

      Hi Martin,
Yes Dorres was blissful. I (Alison) would happily have parked there for longer. In the end we only visited twice. The second day the skies were clear, but all the snow in the compound had melted. Shame because it was lovely to cool off and then get back in. 😍 The views were incredible.
      Thanks for watching,

Thank you so much. The snow on the ground wasn't an issue once we got out of the carpark and onto the main road, but we certainly wouldn't have risked leaving the day before. The snow was falling so hard, the visibility was dreadful and the road down the mountain was full of twisty turns and sheer drops. Best to just stay where we were and make the most of playing in it with the dogs. 😍
      Thanks so much for watching.

      Hi Steven..
It was only a short hike, but it was steep and I think I was still fighting the tail end of the virus that I had when we left Switzerland.
We thought that we could get out of the carpark with the snow chains, but it was the snowstorm that kept us locked down. The roads up to that park-up were steep, windy and had sheer drops. We weren't going to risk trying to drive back down again when our visibility was poor. Any excuse to play in the snow and the dogs loved it too.
      Thanks for watching,
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

This was absolutely lovely guys, that scene of you all, dogs included, having so much fun in the snow in that beautiful scenery was a joy ❤
Less so of course, nearly running out of water and having to melt snow 😮😂 But what a great way to get around it. Also the snow chains, on the one hand you dont want to have to use them, on the other, at least they've justified the cost! We also have them, but haven’t needed them so far.
I really enjoyed the bits near the beginning of the video too - something about that lower mountain landscape with its green/brown rocky hills was just as captivating as the higher up stuff.
As for the spa, wow. Even Stephen said he'd pay the 6 euros for that! 😂 They looked heavenly and definitely want to add them to our list if we go back that way. You can forget the snow angel straight after though! 🥶😂
Safe travels guys and can't wait for Andorra. Love Dan & Steve ❤🤟

We had so much B roll of the landscape, I don't envy Darren's job of working out what to include and what not to. The whole place was amazing.
He also came up with the idea of melting the snow. Real boy scout that one. 😜 Thankfully we made sure that none of the snow was yellow. 😱
The baths were idyllic. There were 3 temperatures. As you got further away from the spring it got cooler. Sadly the snow we rolled in was a little crispy to do proper angels, but it was enough to cool me off. We had to chuckle about Stephen saying he'd pay the €6. That was the true validation for us. 🤭
Playing in the snow with the boys was the best part. Sebastian shows his age all the time now and we know we have to cherish every moment. Seeing him act like a puppy was priceless. My last 2 border Collies used to love the snow, but these 2 haven't seen much of it. Happy memories to treasure forever.
*Spoiler alert* More snow and dogs next week. 😬
Much love Alison and 😘 💜🤟

Love the snow scenes, well done on getting round the water problem. Thermal springs looked great, would love to do that, but methinks a heart attack might be the result at my advancing age! Just love your laid back style and look forward to more adventures.

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife  5 місяців тому

      Hi Carole,
It was all thanks to Darren, he came up with the melting snow idea. 😍
The thermal baths were great. They do state that people with high blood pressure shouldn't stay for longer than half an hour, but there are 3 baths, the closest to the spring is about 41° and is quite small, the middle one is a bit larger and a little cooler, the largest bath where we took most of the footage was cooler still and very comfortable. More like a warm bath, that you never have to top up. 😬
We worked out that when you have a life partner that matches and compliments your own personality, life doesn't have to be complicated. We just wish we had realised this in our 20's. 🤣😂
Thank you so much for watching.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

Hi Steve, Darren here. When I was young I didn't really appreciate the location, it was all about being on the slopes. Now I'm older and life has slowed a little I've learnt to appreciate my surroundings more. I did actually say to Alison (in the next video) that it's a shame I didn't take the time to admire some of the places I visited as a teenager. But that's life and one of the reasons to see the world now, when I can truly experience the beauty of this planet 🤟♥️

I wrote a little something about you guys:
    Finding Xanadu
    Names
-Alison Taylor Age 51 born in 1972
-Dan Taylor Age 51 born in 1972
    About them
Alison and Dan are the founders of the finding Xanadu UA-cam channel! They are British Spanish expats. That used to live on the outskirts of Potries Spain. However they decided to sign their lives away and live in a motor home and travel the world full time! I can’t wait to see where their next adventure leads them and I am confident they will have a great time where ever it they are!
    Extra Facts
    -they’re clumsy
-Alison is scared of caves and small spaces
-Alison has a hard time balancing
    -Dan is scared of heights
    -Dan is a cheapskate
-Dan is a bad driver and he is horrible at parking
    -Alison like overall shorts
-they say not many people understand their sense of humour
    Where they have visited
    Valencia
Valencia is a lovely city in Spain and it’s the 3rd larger city in the country. Valencia is also the capital of the autonomous Valencian region. The city is home to 800,000 residents. While Finding Xanadu was there they visited the port neighborhood, also known as a little Venice of Spain, and they also visited the main city centre. They live close to Valencia so they have most definitely been there many times off camera.
    Alcoi
Alcoi is a medium sized town nestled into the steep mountain in the Alicante region in the autonomous region of Valencia. The town was about a population of 65,000. And, while in the town, they visited to local university. As-well as took a stroll though old town. They also visited this magnificent bridge spanning from old town to the modern part of the city just showing how diverse the architecture is in this town. They also visited a bomb shelter built during the Spanish war, and expressed their sympathy for those who fought in the war. Over all they really enjoyed their time there and even though they drove there car there there is a Renfe train service that runs between there and Valencia.
    Planes
Planes is a small Spanish municipality with a population around 700. It is located in the Alicante region near the border of the Valencian region. As the town is so small they mainly just strolled around and visited the castle. Although they seemed to enjoy the town, they did express that it could use some love. The town consisted of small narrow streets with unique architecture and vast views of the green countryside. Because of its small size there was not many local businesses to explore and it appears to be a good place to visit in the morning.
    Salem
Salem is also a small town near planes just over the border located in the Valencian region. With a population of about 450 they didn’t expect much, especially was there where no signs saying anything about it or about it being a touristy town, however when they arrived the where pleasantly surprised to see a small town with well kept small winding streets with quant beautiful houses and shops. They were wondering why the town was so well kept and they asked to local mayor who explained to them that the town had a large number of bourgeoisies and played a big part of the shoe making industry, and most of the citizens had lots of money and kept there houses well kept and helped the Townes economy to keep the streets and local buildings pristine. Over all they absolutely loved the town and had a wonderful morning wandering the streets
    Ráfol de Salem
After visiting the first Salem they were expecting a lot however after arriving they realized they had misjudged. The town was pretty run down and had small homes with paint peeling and old grey blank streets. However they soon found out that the town’s economy had almost collapsed in the 1980s causing most of there citizens to flee the municipality. However the city has been pouring money back in and building up a new section of the town. Over all Dan and Alison where pretty heart broken to see a down in that current state but where exited for the future and what’s to come for it to hopefully see it being revived and restored in the future and planed to return in 10 years to see how to town is doing.
    Callosa d’en Sarrià
This unique town located north west of Benidorm has a population of around 7200 residents. The old town was magnificent and had bundles of flowers hanging off homes and they absolutely loved it the town also had a palace/castle/graveyard with a modern day restaurant where Alison had to stop to have a Drink because when they visited, Spain was going through a major heat wave and the outside temperature was a spicy 39 degrees. After marching town the mountain sweating they went back to the city centre to dip there feet in a massive fountain with wrapped around the square with the names of local towns on ceramic tiles plastered on to the back of the fountain. After they were done dipping their feet and snacking, they went to see an open house how ever someone parked their car in front of the door it wouldn’t open. Finally they went to these water falls to go swim to cool down to end there hot day. The waterfalls where busy at this time with the weather however they where absolutely gorgeous and looked like they came straight of a movie. Over all I think other then the intense heat the really in joyed there day and the town of Callosa d'en Sarrià.

I (Alison) was born in 1971 and Darren (not Dan) was born in 1970. Other than that you got our personalities spot on.

      Hi Joanne,
Thankfully the snow chains did their job. 🍀We just made the most of it until the snow storm stopped. It wouldn't have been dare for us to try driving with the bad visibility, down those windy, narrow mountain roads.
You are entirely correct though, the thermal springs at Dorres were blissfully well timed. 😍
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟
