    The castle you visitd
is an iconic monument. It was a Templar castle, the river was the border and the Order was in charge of patrolling it and making sure there were no incursions. This was part of the Reconquista effort back in the day.
Tomar, itself, is deeply connected with the Templar Order, a small but beautiful town with a lot of secrets to discover. The flower tray festivities, every four years, is a magnificent event.
The convent is a shadow of it used to be. French invasions, crazy decisions to tear parts of it, stollen books, artwork and so many other things. I am surprised it had somehow survived.
Only very recently has the Portugal realised that, the historical legacy, of such monuments, is a part of who we are as a people
Here I am, a typical portuguese, always complaining about his own country :)

      Hi Pedro..!
Wow..! Thank-you SO much for your comment. We love to hear about the historic connections with places. We knew it was a Templar location, but not how important. We loved Tomar and the whole surrounding area. The Convent was enormous and yet you say it is smaller than it used to be. *Mind blown.* 🤯
You say you are a typical Portuguese, complaining about their own country. Maybe that is why we felt so at home, as people from Great Britain tend to complain about everything. 🤣🤣
We have found your people to be happy, friendly, helpful and so welcoming. We adore Portugal.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

Well, that was quite the reward in the end!!🍦🍦 Regarding the Charola, I saw in another video I watched a few months ago, that it was built in that way, for the Templars to remain mounted on their horses, as they partook in the religious ceremony, so that if the need occurred, they could quickly exit the church - I can not find any documentation to verify that... so whether that is fact or fantasy... who knows!

      Hi Paulette..!
We always look forward to your comment each week to see what awesome information you have for us. 😍 Your thirst for knowledge must rival Darren's.
Saying about the Templars being able to remain on horseback rings a bell. So I would guess that there is some truth in it, or we had the same fantasy..!! 😳🤪

Hey guys, lovely to see you exploring Portugal and all that fantastic scenery - the boat ride over the river to the castle looked especially gorgeous.
The monastery looked magnificent, and even though we moan about prices, we'd likely have paid that entry fee too (and it would've been double that in the UK for sure).
Did we get the post-haircut Alison? I'm sure we did because it looked more trimmed after Darren mentioned it - either way, it was perfect. Short hair suits you so well!
That monster ice cream at the end! Stephen needs to know what that is immediately please 😂
    Much love guys ❤🤟

      Morning guys,
      Alison here.
First and foremost for Stephen, 😍 Gelatomania, Tomar. 2 scoops, chocolate on the bottom and coffee on top AND it was only about €4.50. The 'scoops' had as much ice-cream outside the scoop, than there was inside. It was definitely more like 3 or 4 'normal', or as I call them stingy scoops. 🤪🍦🍨
My hair is never much different, maybe about 1 ½ cms. It starts to annoy me before it gets really out of hand as I have naturally curly hair. Butchering it just makes it less wiggy. Thanks for the compliment. ☺️ Store short hair is so much easier for motorhome living. I can't imagine living in Perse with my hair as long as it was when we moved to Spain, even though I miss it. 💇🏼‍♀️
The little boat to the castle of Amoural was adorable, even though the distance from the shore was very short at it's closest point and they could easily put in a little bridge, the boat made for a quirky experience and I would imagine encourages more people to visit because of it. We do love a boat trip.
We wanted to do a dolphin watching boat trip from Lagos, but that's not going to be possible this time now. Next time. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Much love and safe travels. 😘💜🤟

@findingxanadulife It's a no from Stephen sadly on the coffee flavour front (for someone who loves ice cream he has terrible taste if you ask me 😂) but for me that sounds absolutely luscious, I don't think I've ever had that one before. We both agree on the price and size though, can't argue with that!
Hair being short in a van feels so freeing and one less thing to worry about. We don't even have a proper mirror so it's a huge relief!

@comealongdear Oh Stephen..! Tell him don't knock it until you've tried it. 🤣 I love coffee frappés though, which are sweet, milky, cold coffees. To me coffee and chocolate ice-creams go perfectly together. Darren however, had a scoop of mint choc chip and a scoop of AVOCADO...! To be fair, the avocado ice-cream was surprisingly pleasant. Very creamy tasting. 👍👍
I think it's obvious by the amount of bedhead that I have on camera, I don't tend to use mirrors much. 🤣 Darren makes his hair presentable, I give it a ruffle with my hands and job done. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣🤣💜🤟

How weird is that. I have been watching a T.V series on the blaze channel about two artifact collectors who managed to purchase one of the only Templar hoards to ever be dug up just outside the walls of that castle. They met a historian who claimed that the Templar Grand Master would inaugurate new junior members of the Templars into the group under that eight pillared structure you were trying to find information on, and eight Templar Knights would each stand under one of the eight arches. Apparently the number eight was very important to the Templars. But yeah, another great video guy's

Oooooh..! How cool is that .!?! Can you remember what the program was called .?!? We'd love to watch it. We've watched quite a few programs on Templars, but I don't remember anything like that. The information in the castle doesn't give any context, so this is just awesome. Thank-you so much for telling us Gareth..! 😍

Not sure why YT is suddenly recommending videos to me of 35 mins (!) with people who apparently walk around sort of lost. Reminds me of endless vacation videos i had to watch as a kid.

      Hi Rene.
We don't know why UA-cam thought you might like our videos and sorry that it brought back bad memories for you.
As for the comment at 30.30, shortly afterwards, we do say that we had discovered that it was just a sculpture. We do rely on information boards to give us information, as we are not all knowing.
Thank you for your comment, although we have no answer to your question.
I hope UA-cam suggests more suitable things for your viewing pleasure in future.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟
