The R & R Hall of fame is pretty clueless. I believe they chose American Pie as one of the top 5 greatest songs of all time , to which I say the song is 7 verses too long and The Hollies are a far better tribute to Buddy Holly than the stinking American Pie song. I don't think they ever played live at least on any early television appearances. But then again, who did? I love the choreography with the guitar and bass player. One thing I really wish about PR and the Raiders, is that they had done more concerts where you could hear them play and perform several songs. Mostly what we have are singles that aired on various TV shows. This was a really great band, great to watch, great songs overall and really good harmonies on some songs. Maybe they didn't take themselves as seriously as their fans did.
This is one of the first videos I watched when I started up this channel 2 years ago. I was on a huge "Paul Revere & The Raiders" kick. I still think they're awesome!!!! Mark does a great job singing on this!!!
Maybe it's , because of the tune their playing was recorded about a few months earlier I 1966 . Most likely it was . Alot of the times played on the airwaves were out by late 1966 , and running into 1967 . For instance " Dedicated to The One I Love " , sung by The MaMas an PaPas ( originally recorded by the Shireles early in 1961 . Then , The MaMas an PaPas redone the Phil Specter tune inid - 1966 , and I heard it sung by the Mamas an PaPs latter part of mid 12/ 1966 , and the tune carried over to Jan. to mid 2 / 1967. Anyway , The tune on the video I'm not familiar with @ all. Can't say I ever heard it played over the Air-;waves . Especially , Philadelphia's " Famous 56 " WFIL !
Phil and Mark still tour, not together though. They are still belting them out, sounding and looking good. It would be great to get these two R&R Legends to tour together. The Great Airplane Strike is one of my favorites. It was nice that the guitar players got to stay out front for part of the song.
I've always remembered this one (since it was in color unlike Where the Action Is was back then). It aired in winter and I remember my best friend Dayle coming over to see it (they didn't have a color TV yet). After the show, my uncle had to take my friend home and his car had iced over. I just remember the three of us scraping and scraping to get the ice off the windshield, so my girlfriend could get home. My uncle Joe gave me dirty looks for the next week, but Dayle and I had a wonderful time.

I loved PR & the R. I was just a kid in the 60s, but I enjoyed their music and outfits. It was a great era for Rock n' Roll.
The Great Airplane Strike is but one of many examples of why Paul Revere And The Raiders were one of the ten best bands of the twentieth century. One of the few examples of the Jim Valley era Raiders in Action (pun intended). God bless them!
I still don't understand why Madonna, Donna Summer, Public and Enemy are in the R&R HOF before Paul Revere and the Raiders. Blows my mind....
Rush is in no Raiders...
MOST EXCELLENT!! As many times PR&R appared on network TV in the 60s, I'm amazed there are not more videos available online. Thanks for sharing this.
Their song Indian Reservation is a classic and should be regarded as a one of the most meaningful songs of the 20th Century
These guys had an amazing Rock energy...and a zestful flair.
I don't think they ever played live at least on any early television appearances. But then again, who did? I love the choreography with the guitar and bass player. Their greatest hits album is still one of my all-time favorites. Mark Lindsay had that raspy, almost soul searching voice. They really look like they were having fun. What's more important than that? Okay, money.
A wonderful memory. Paul Revere and the Raiders are just one of many great bands that I saw on The Hollywood Palace.
My 8 track in my 66 mustang really had great stereo separation on this song in particular.
@SonicWheelRecords Fang...you and The Raiders were a huge inspiration to me. Thank you for everything.
Steve
I always loved how they danced in unison!
Much of that choreography was the work of Toni Basil. You may remember her in the song "Mickey". She's been around for a long time.
@@kiltedwolf2 She was a really popular choreographer before she had her hit record in the 1980s.
@@kiltedwolf2 I read in an article where they interviewed Paul Revere. He said they copied their routine from The Ventures.
@@JTRocks4Ever Which would have been very confusing considering that the Ventures were a guitar army who rarely (if ever) SANG on their songs. "Walk, don't run", "Hawaii Five O", "Wipeout", "Apache" et.al. All instrumentals. Great ones but no vocals. I remember the Ventures who were inside my generation. They didn't dance either. ha
@@kiltedwolf2 google it. Its an interview with Paul Revere. Interesting read. He talks about how the band started, how the members came and left, how they ended up wearing the Revolutionary war costumes...and how they got into the sychronized moves. He never mentioned Toni Basil.
PP&R's is the very first big concert i ever saw. i was in 8th grade. interestingly i dont remember the guitar and bass guys doing their "steps" like i see in all these videos now. loved this band way back in the day!!!
Paul Revere and the Raiders were featured quite a bit in the film "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
I got this album for my 14th Birthday from my 3close friends in Warrenton, Oregon and Debbie Arnold I still consider close and she did most of the work even made me 2 scrapbooks but I lost them after my parents died first I lose them then had the house go in electrical fire 🔥 I truly treasured that album too Thank You Debbie Arnold!
Mark Lindsay was SO cute! and the Hollywood Palace was a great show!
Can you imagine...CLEAN, HAPPY music for the "kids"? Anyone want to listen to rap right now?
NO, NO AND HELL NO.
Nice to see Ray Bolger as the host.
This appearance by Paul Revere and the Raiders on the Hollywood Palace took place on January 7th, 1967. Not 1966
I think January 7 was Paul's birthday.
I'm in LA ha ha ha ha it is
I'm vtgt try
They were a great band, one of my favorites then and now.
Met Fang at Sam Ash in Vegas he was working there very nice guy thanks Fang..
Phil and Mark still tour, not together though. They are still belting them out, sounding and looking good. It would be great to get these two R&R Legends to tour together. The Great Airplane Strike is one of my favorites. It was nice that the guitar players got to stay out front for part of the song.
Paul Revere and the Raiders and Ray Bolger...Awesome!!!!!
I WAS IN THE EIGHTH GRADE AND HAD TABLOID PICTURES ALL OVER MY LOCKER.I WAS IN LOVE WITH MARK LINDSAY AND THEIR MUSIC WAS WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME.IT WAS RARE I GO 97 CENTS BUT WHEN I DID I WENT AND BOUGHT A 45 RECORD.STILL HAVE MOST OF THEM IN GARAGE.ALL THE WAY UP TO RAP AND THEY RUINED ALL GOOD MUSIC.
I remember growing up with all this positive music(born 1965) and I feel very fortunate to have experienced radio when it was in it's heyday. Also, the first time I saw Adam and the Ants,I thought " this is England's answer to Paul Revere & The Raiders" Not just with the costumes, but wit such a diversity of music.I'll always love y'all.
.
Yes. One can discern the connection with Adam Ant and the Raiders.
@SonicWheelRecords Fang, the distorted guitars (or bass) in this song is epic. Too bad you didn't do these effects again until Let Me in 1969.
Thanks to Fang and everyone for some great radio tracks. When I started in '68 your catalog was "then" - and it sounded great on a loud top-40 AM station like the one(s) I worked at. Coming out of a strong station ID with the first couple of keys on "Just like me" is pure radio power. Cool to think about it again...
PR&TRs are just high energy rock and roll. Love 'em!
Definitely Deserves to be in the ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME.
Got to see Mark Lindsey about two years ago. Still does pretty well
I never noticed the slight resemblance to "19th Nervous Breakdown" until today
Just learned the bass line to this one. One of the Raiders best tunes. You never hear it get airplay on any oldies station.
yes, the Great Airplane Strike--good song, clever lyrics. it was also a "long song" for it's time. most pop/rock tunes ran about two and a half to three minutes. this one clocked out at 4 minutes plus.
+MusicDude86 Don't expect to. These so called "Classic/Oldies Stations" will play the same play list over and over, and if you call and request something outside the format it will not get played, I stopped listening to that format years ago. Thank God for UA-cam where one could bring up and listen to what ever one remembers!
It IS a bit dated, but still great!
Which is interesting, considering how huge of a hit it was at the time.
"Here they are for all the youngsters, the Paul Revere & The Raiders."
Bolger was a hopeless square, he meant well but he was unable to get it.
Love the song, love them. RRHOF must get them in!
Priceless piece of history.
I remember watching this as a teen what times we had
I haven't heard this song since it was on the radio in the 60's. The oldies stations don;t play it at all. As much as these guys were in TV back then, I don't see how they just don't rate airplay these days.
AIC?
What's AIC?
@SonicWheelRecords It's great to hear Paul Revere And the Raiders on youtube. My older brother who grew up in the 60's and was 15 years older than I, used to let me listen to this song all the time. At 45 years of age now I still DIG it!
Great band w' great music!! They were always very visual and fun to watch on stage. Interesting seeing the bass player using a Hofner Club bass (nice quirky tone).
The bass player's nickname was "Fang". Met these guys years ago (when we were all young), and they were really nice.
Highland804 did you become a groupie?
Sort of. ;)
Er, no. LOL
lenspaulding I'll bet you did.
Terry Melchers (and his merry band of ace sessioneers) finest hour. The Raiders ( with cheeky smiles galore) couldn't care less they weren't taken seriously outside the U.S. .They had American teenage girls all sewn up....and the party of their lives.
They were just fun with some memorable music.
