Great video series from WY ... thanks for not disclosing locations .... really like your day pack, what model is it? Seems like a good system for easy hiking.
Looked like a few places you had split shot on or weight. Is that to get fly real deep? Didn't look like the hopper was getting top hits, so were you fishing it wet? Great looking river and been trying to find remote water with my son, but need to get in better shape for next year. Thanks for the excellent videos.
Thx Jon, staying in shape is super important to me, not a joke! No, just dry or dry-dropper. About 90% took the stonefly dry, the first bow and 2 or 3 others took the dropper. Eventually, I cut it off as fish were more willing to come to the surface. The takes were very subtle and not splashy...plus the gopro doesn't provide a ton of detail at distance. I do a lot more nymphing in the next 2 parts.
Love your stuff! Thank you! Do you have a video in which you discuss your camera gear, setup, and how you handle your camera and angles while fighting and releasing fish?
You sure do get around I’m planning on a trip next spring to Wyoming, do you think you can give some advice on where to go I would love to know where this is? I live NWA if I have it right think you’re somewhere near there.
Drew, how do you manage your net in bear country ? Are you ever concerned about transfering the fish smell in youe net onto other objects or yourself ? Thanks for answering all my newbie questions.
I put it with my other gear in a tree. After dinner, brushing teeth, cook and anything else...I do away from camp...strip down...jump in the creek and put everything in a dry bag. Place that and net on 2 opposite suspension rigs and pull it high into a tree. I set up my tent and sleeping bag at least 100 yds away from that spot. Not perfect but best I can come up with!
They were indeed! I have done those in the past but stopped...always get water spots on the lens which is actually harder to clean off than expected lol! But I bet I could add a few, especially on long trips like these!
@@LooknFishy Completely personal opinion but Love seeing fish under clear water. There's something different about how a fish looks when suspended underwater vs out the water. Cool trip and great vid.
@@mattdoesflyfishing I do also, cool watching them swim away under water. Definitely giving me some ideas and how to do it with my grip...and not my hat, as it gets soaked lol! Appreciate the feedback, definitely listening!
Drew, when you were fishing in bear country did you take any precautions to make sure your fishing gear including your net, pack and fishing clothes never touched your other clothes and sleeping area including your tent if you used one ? I almost think to fish in bear country all clothes and gear must be separated between "contact with fish" and "no contact with fish". I just cant figure out how to do this when camping in the backcountry. Any ideas ?
So I have clothes I fish, eat and anything else in and clothes I sleep in. I fish, cook, brush my teeth and do anything that might attract a bear in my fishing wear. When I'm done for the day..I jump in the stream and then change into sleeping clothes (no soap) and everything goes into a dry bag...I mean everything...tooth paste, sun screen, bug spray, chap stick, food, etc...the dry bag goes into backpack which gets hung from a 2 suspension system...2 caribeaners from opposite trees...I put my net on it also. Boots and fly rod go up high in a tree and all are 50 to 100 yards away from my tent. I don't eat or bring any food near my camp. Basically I sleep in my tent and nothing else.
i have a cabin with a deck over this river in this canyon. u are less then a mile from my cabin in this video! very cool dont see many people posting about it. thanks for not giving the location
Im planning a fishing trip to wyoming this spring and ive been wondering if i need a gun while i fish in case of bears or mountain lions. I noticed you had a handgun. Would you suggest people carry with them in these remote areas?
No, I'd recommend bear spray, bring a buddy and make some noise. I don't bring a sidearm just for hiking into remote areas...but also for all the nights I spend on the road sleeping in random/unfamiliar areas. But definitely believe the best option in bear country is noise and spray. No real worry for mountain lions!
How do you dress for wading and hiking? I'll hike up to 2 miles in to fish a stream. The hike in is always great. I'm dry, my feet are dry, I'm fresh etc. But if I wet wade with wading boots and shorts the hike back sucks. I'm tired and my feet are wet while I hike. I don't like waders because they are restrictive and I have to carry them in and out, but I'll use them sometimes. So I waffle back and forth between hip waders and no waders. So, how do you do it?
Great 3 part series Drew. I do a lot of the same kind of fishing. Love hiking to waters that are out of the way. You called the dry fly you were using a "top shelf" stonefly. Is that the name of the fly? Would love to pick a few of those up. Subscribed!!!
Yea, all about the experience and noting beats getting off the grid to fish. It's one of my patterns. The hopper version is in my tying videos. The stone version is essentially the same but instead of reverse tying in the foam, just tie it on and leave some hanging off the hook. I add 2 sets of legs but that's it. Sorry, I don't sell flies. Just share what I use. Stay busy trying to keep my boxes filled.
Great video mate, beautiful scenery and awesome fishing I love that sort of water to fish well done. Hey could you tell me what orvis rod and and length you are fishing? Regards Stuart.

@@LooknFishy Thanks ... I keep looking for a better pack and yours seemed more functional than the one I'm currently using.
Now that is some Kind 'O' Pocket Water.
Yea, definitely had some pockets and some flow!
You cleaned that place. Nice job
Haha, was a good trip for sure!
Awesome vid! Love the fly! Hopper imitation?
Thx man, stonefly or hopper!
Beautiful nature and good fishing. This is the best rest.
What grade is your rod and reel?
Thank u much! Throwing a 10ft, 4wt here
@@LooknFishy Thank you
Looked like a few places you had split shot on or weight.
Glad to see your packing.........
Yep, rather have it and never need it, than need it and not have it.
great content! Reminds me of the good ol days
Definitely stay busy! Wish I could share, but this was a gift from a buddy and not mine to share.
@@LooknFishy Ok I understand thx for the reply.
Man we love fly fishing. I've been fishing the galatin and surrounding 100 miles for 47 years
We do indeed! Hope I can say the same thing one day! A good life!
Then you miss the old days where social media was not around as well as the terrific fishing.
Great stream. Thanks for the video
Thanks man, had a good time for sure!
Look at those gorgeous fish...... Please try get us some underwater release shots!
Sitting here in Claremont ,CA, I'm so envious. Good job! Nice video.
You guys in CA got it tough right now! Hope some good vibes make it that way. Thank you much!
@@LooknFishy Thank you. This is a great system.
Good food .I do the same menu when I'm out.
I knew I wasn't alone!
Cool video. Looks like some great fishing
Thx dude, it was a killer trip...the fishing and scenery were top shelf!
some tips for winter fly fishing?
i have a cabin with a deck over this river in this canyon. u are less then a mile from my cabin in this video! very cool dont see many people posting about it. thanks for not giving the location
Keep it to yourself. I'm jealous, but people will ruin it. It's nice to know quiet places like this still exist.
What is the "Bear Revolver" you have there, Drew ?
How do you dress for wading and hiking? I'll hike up to 2 miles in to fish a stream. The hike in is always great. I'm dry, my feet are dry, I'm fresh etc. But if I wet wade with wading boots and shorts the hike back sucks. I'm tired and my feet are wet while I hike. I don't like waders because they are restrictive and I have to carry them in and out, but I'll use them sometimes. So I waffle back and forth between hip waders and no waders. So, how do you do it?
I wear wet wading pants, wading boots, liners and quality hiking socks. Feet stay wet but never really bothers me.
That sheet foam fly looks like it might be a good one for grass carp.
Fished that same canyon as a kid. Been trying to talk the wife into moving back to the area for retirement. Special place.
Oh man that was awesome.
Thank u much!
Nice videos man!
Thank u much!
Great video Thank You!
Appreciate it man, thx!
Thank u. It's the h3f, 10'4wt.
What is your hardware set up? Notice it is an Orvis. 3-4 wt?
Yep, h3f 10' 4wt!
Nice video! Just curious, what month was this?
Was there in August.
How long of a leader are you using or do you tie your own with tippet?
11 ft...9' - 2x, 1'- 3x, 1' to 4x...to the fly. Just made a video that explains it and how I approach small streams. Will get it up soon!
What kind of grouse were those on the trail at the beginning? Sprucies?
ahhh///I watched it again....turkey poults :)
