    The one area where VHS always suffered was the colour saturation EVEN with Super VHS. Beta was just more pleasing to view. VHS always seemed a bit weak and forced to use numerous enhancement processes to even start to become comparable with what Beta could acheive. Then you've got the cassette size. Amazing how most ignored that but are always wanting with todays tech smaller and smaller items.Beta will always be alive whilst I'm around.Thanks for sharing.

    That's exactly the common misconception I was trying to clear up. "250 lines" refers to the number of distinct vertical lines that can be resolved on a test chart (so it is something like a horizontal measurement) but the number of scanlines containing picture information is always around 480/576 (525/625 including the blanking interval and sync.) To look at it another way, the signal you get back from a VHS tape is "blurred" horizontally a bit compared to the original.

    yeah man you make the right thing, betacam tape is the best option in a super beta video recorder like the video tape super vhs and a sony broadcast video tape for super vhs, the last tape the picture quality is superior in all the senses

    in the uk at the time no one bought video recorders we rented them and VHS was cheaper but the more techy types saw BETA as it was,a better quality system.
    please note that BETA as a pro format is still used the betacam tape also digital are used with hdd storage.

    Still own many different Beta decks. Early on, the industrail Beta I had a lot of drop out issues. As a matter course, we would never record on the first few minutes of tape even after the format matured. We have hundreds of Beta I tapes in our archives and most of them still look great. I always loved skip scan and had a Beta Hifi deck when they were first released. The technology was always better than VHS.

    Doesn't matter, the early BetaCam tapes are interchangeable both ways.
    For the uninitiated, BetaCam FORMAT is not the same as BetaMax, but both use similar cassettes.

    Did you tape that film on B I speed? Most machines have B II and B III only. I do love your Betamax. It's a wonderful machine.

    Judging by the fact that mine was a lower-end machine and it survived, yours probably survive a nuclear bomb lol! Great VCR! 5 stars for a magnifico beta!

    "TV lines" (analog video) are commonly mistaken to be a "pixel" measurement in the digital sense, but actually refer the level of horizontal resolution in one line. Each individual line is a continuous signal, with the amount of detail limited by the available video bandwidth. The vertical resolution of any standard analog video system is always 480 or 576 lines. The analog signal off tape is digitally sampled by the plasma TV's display processor (likely at 720x576) and scaled-up for display.

    ah yes that was it natsir88....i remeber something about the incompatibility when i worked with Betacam SP all those years ago....i remember also someone telling me you could work round it by using a SP shell and putting 1/2" tape in it...providing you splice foil leader instead of VHS clear leader...or something like that.

    This machine is a European PAL model, and hasn't B I, II or III modes, just SP speed (1.8cm/s - like 2cm/s BII mode).
    Yeah! it's a brilliant and dreamy machine.

    Fantastic to see a 950 running again - ah that motor sound - it brings it all back - hope it’s still going. I had one for a few years - cost me £749.99 and was one of the last ever batch. I understand their a bitch to work on and needed very careful setting up. The C9 wasn’t as sexy and the sound was very poor (being stereo but LOW FI) but I felt had a better picture - had my re-headed twice but gave it away with about 300 beta tapes to a friend (who was a big Beta fan) many years ago

      +macolest Direct scart into modern plasma/LCD TV is not great with analog machines, it causes synchro/color problems with some tapes. I use this model : www.conrad.fr/ce/fr/product/989271/Convertisseur-PeritelHDMI-vers-HDMI-SpeaKa-Professional/?ref=detview1&rt=detview1&rb=1 : no more problems !

  • @natsirt88

    Not strictly correct. When Betacam was developed by Sony, the tapes were oxide and able to be used in consumer Betamax machines. When Betacam SP (superior performance) was released in the late 80s, the SP tape formulations being metal particle were too harsh to be used in consumer Betamax machines.

    Ese modelo reproduce Betacam sin problemas??? tengo entendido que se dañan muy pronto las cabezas de una Betamax si se reproduce un BETACAM

    • @macolest
      @macolest  10 років тому +1

      No reproduce BETACAM pero puedes usar las cintas para grabar en el modo SuperBeta PRO-X, en ese caso no dañas nada.
      Únicamente cintas BETACAM, no betacam sp ni ninguna otra.
      Saludos

      Valla, no sabía, entonces que maravilla de aparato tienes, yo tengo una SL-HF600 pero tiene fallas que me gustaria arreglar, como cuando reproduces una cinta no grabada en HIFI se oye malisima, o cuando borras una cinta no lo hace correctamente y se alcanza a ver una imagen "fantasma" de la grabacion anterior

  • @jjovereats
    @jjovereats 13 років тому

    @kawaiifreak860 250 HORIZONTAL lines. That's TVL. The vertical lines are to the dimensions of 483, 241.5 per field, 50 fields per second. It can be down to 220TVL, but it's still 483i (or where I am (or was depending on when you read this) 576i).
    483 lines would be insane resolution. 220 lines is 333x483i or 333x576i, and 420 lines (Hi8) is 560x483i or 560x576i.
    So what you are saying is damningly wrong.

    I have a Sony SLHF 950 bought new in the uk in Sept 89. I'm told the heads have gone and it has been dormant for last five years. Bought JVC SVHS but much prefer the 950.
    If anyone know anyone in Spain who I can trust to replace the heads (our local engineer would not touch it and told me it was too good to dump) please let me know or possible buyer in uk or even someone in uk who can replace the heads. I have a local man with van who does regular trips. Tom Smith

    Super Beta was a bit sharper than Regular Beta. Definately better than VHS, but NOT SuperVHS. When combined with a Ultra high quality tape and the highest speed possible, these looked amazing, for the time. This was obvioulsy not Betacam, but rather B-II. For the record, Hi-8 tapes looked a lot better than this. Cr@p! Even Video-8 tapes looked better than this, when using a high quality tape.

    its highly unadvisable to use betacam broadcast tapes on a beta VCR. the oxide is much different and has been known to rip heads to shreds!
