Sony SL-HF950UB PAL Betamax - No colour - fixed!

- Just short video this week on a colour issue with a Sony HF-950 Super Beta machine.
This was an odd one as I just 'sensed' what was wrong with it from the black and white playback image which gave me some great clues. Those test tapes I made are proving very useful!
Please like and subscribe - it really means so much and share the channel too.
If you'd like to support the channel I do have a Ko-Fi page: ko-fi.com/mrbetabyte
Thank you as always.

I had a no colour fault on my Sanyo VTC 5300P which I sorted. The problem was a crack in the board trace, which cut off the 688 kHz signal between the playback amp and the chroma IC. I repaired the trace and now Picture's Always Lovely.
That's a great find. Excellent work tracing that one as trace breaks can be challenging.
Good video
Thank you so much.
Good
Thank you.
SONY SL-HF 950 ES UK Version has a different Signal Board without SECAM Chipset
Thank you for this - I forgot to update the title of the video. Have now added UB and PAL. Thanks again.
hi @MrBetaByte.there is enough for you to take advantage of one thing. On newly purchased hf950, stereo tape is fine but mono tape sounds very low, suggest I look elsewhere, sorry for bad translation
No problem on the translation. Linear audio is relatively poor on the HF950 - they did really skimp on the circuitry for this side of audio. I will be looking into this issue though as so many tapes aren't Beta HiFi. Keep an eye out on the channel as there will be a lot of HF950 work coming up.
I see the problem is solved. The signal from the videoheads are converted to 2 seperate signals Y (luminacy= B/W level) and C (chroma=color). Finaly the are put together to the composite videosignal. No color could mean a defect in chroma circuit or faulty colorburst signal (PAL 4.43MHz, NTSC 3,58 MHz I think) right after the syncpulse. That what i remember from 40 years ago from now 😊.
You're doing better than me at remembering all of this but yes, that's the process. 😊
@@MrBetaByte , you might also remember TeleText and TimeCode data in video (composite, Y/C by mini DIN, RGB by SCART). Refreshing you're memories.
I have a betamax t25, the picture is not colored.. it appears normal and not colored.. what is the reason for that.. with special greetings to you
Have replied to your other comment but really hope you can get it working again as it should.
I have a colorless Betamax T25 video device.. Please reply from you to know the reason for the malfunction and the loss of colors ..

Colour issues are relatively complex to repair but lets start with some basics. Is the black and white picture clear with no patterning? What format systems have you tried - as the T25 is multi-system what system formats have you tried? What is the result from making a recording? Let me know and I'll try my best to help but ultimately you'll need an oscilloscope to trace through to see what's causing the issue.
