Ah, yes. The canon team of 98': Rugal, Geese and the true mastermind behind it all, _Robert Garcia_
Maybe that's why Robert decided to have moustache in KOF XIV
He wanted to imitate Rugal's style
Team Money
To be fair I use that team but instead of Robert, I use yamazaki
Kula Diamond was right when she stated that she shouldn't trust Robert in 'KOF XIII'.
Dream Match KOF in action
Team cheap bosses... and Robert. Who's just happy to be there.
Shame he picked EX Robert, doing kick dance combos and resets is fun.
Robert laughed at Ryu for getting picked XD
well tbf the only actual boss is rugal lol
EX geese is just real bout fatal fury geese
Well He Is the Star of The Art Of Fighting 3.
KOF 98:
"It all began in '94,
Kept on rollin' in '95
Pieces were in place in '96,
Came to an end in '97
And now it comes and here we go,
KOF IS HERE AGAIN
Nothings gonna stop it,
It's 1998!"
Turururu rururu turururu...
"Play dat sh*t like you just got yo mutha f**kin'..."
Yeah. It’s nostalgic
Snk going bankrupt nearly did stop that shit lmao
"Let me get... Crazy ass Rugal" immediately banned from the arcade no questions asked
'Puto el quien escoja a Rugal'
@@meganinten0078 the most important rule to follow when playing KOF in the arcade lmaoo
Gets stabbed.
We banned people who used Omega Rugal in '95 and Orochi Leona/Iori in '97... those were the days.
We had an unsung rule whenever you played here in Mexico. MegaNinten 007 gave the verbal draw, but you ACTUALLY could get banned by the people playing if you played Omega Rugal... _saving certain conditions (like accidentaly getting him on random; still subjected to people)_
Him, and 97's Orochi Iori and Leona were frowned upon due to cheap damage and in the orochis case, speed as well.
But yeah, Max pulls this in an arcade? _Insta-ban from players, hah!_
Chizuru looks like she brings rollback with her wherever she goes.
IKR?
Fun fact.
The announcer of KOF 98 is Blue Mary and King's seiyuu/voice actress.
I remember that promotional artwork of KOF 98
The one that shows Yashiro, King, Iori, Kyo, Terry, Heavy D., Ralf and Athena wearing formal clothes (King looks really gorgeous wearing a dress 😊)
I don't like Shinkiro's artstyle tbh (I don't like very realistic art styles) but that artwork is one of the BEST in the series.
It is good to see our beloved KOF characters celebrating :)
Yup, Harumi Ikoma voiced both characters and was the announcer for this game.
How do I know? Because I'm super smart and it has nothing to do with the credits at 26:04.
I find it funny that Max chooses OMEGA RUGAL.. the ultimate boss of King of Fighters, a jacked up version of Rugal with the Orochi Blood. GEESE HOWARD... The meanest most corrupt Mayor of Southtown running his own criminal underground and gambling circuit...
...And then there's Robert in total confusion as to why he's standing next two of the most evil characters in SNK history.
According to Kula Diamond, Robert's most vile quality is his talkativeness.
MILLIONAIRE FIGHTING 1998
What do you mean two of the most evil SNK characters ever? They're not even close to Bao and Joe.
@@funnycoffinman9700 Say what you want about Geese and Rugal; at least they didn't attempt to date their arch-enemy's sister (Lilly Kane).
Robert on the team is the equivalent of applying for a job you are not qualified for and still getting the job.
For me this was the KoF with the best sound and music out of all the old ones, right next to 2000. It is also a shame that, after 98, they stopped showing the rest of the team cheering from the sidelines, that was a neat detail.
SNK Heroines brought back the whole teammate cheering in the background at least.
I wish that game had a sequel.
It was silly and fun! (Especially with friends)
I also miss that feature.
I would have loved to see Foxy, Angel and K9999 cheering Kula in the sidelines (it would be odd to see K9999 and Angel doing that 😆)
I wonder why SNK removed it for KOF 99 and onwards 🤔
Maybe their arcade machines didn't have enough memory for that, their machines were still using the obsolete MVS system since the late 80s.
Or how your teammates can tech grabs from the sidelines when grabbed by a multi hit grab on that particular side of the stage
@@monstersinthecity that’s actually an exploit. Multi hit grabs technically consider you in a dizzy state which is what that mechanics for.
@@Neogears1312 they would still come out to save you which was the point and a mechanic that was really cool back then when assists were barely becoming a thing in team based fgs. It's easy to take for granted what snk has done for the genre. Super moves, advanced movement and teams of 3 were all invented by snk games
I love that one of Brian's signature moves is that he spins in the air like a helicopter. Lmao
When talent in Football enables you to cheat Gravity
That's actually one of his best moves. Great aerial pressure and you can combo from it if you land properly
@@monstersinthecity Still funny to look at though
Erm... tatsumaki/ hurricane kick?
I love how Max is like "This music sounds familiar!" at the intro theme because he probably heard it in friggin' Dong Dong Never Die.
You mean, the acclaimed unofficial sequel to Terminator, Dong Dong Never Die?
@@BlazeReborn2 You mean the Best Kusoge Of All Time, Dong Dong Never Dies?
Ah, yes. Roberto Garcia. Truly the most infamous among SNK bosses.
So much that Capcom chose to emulate him through the immaculate Dan Hibiki.
Rugal and Krauser's double Kaiser Wave was always my favorite special intro, love that one man.
Shermie and Brian's special intro is the funniest 😆😂
@@meganinten0078 Yea that one is hilarious. She just slaps the crap out of him 😂
@@orlanzo2621 😂🤣
Shermie hates loud people.
Leona and Chang's special intro is weird and funny.
She is the only person who thinks Chang is cute 😆
Seeing all these classic KOF games reminds me of my childhood in Mexican arcades
Same but in Brazil, specially 97, that intro hits home
Saludos hermano Kofero
Y yo de Argentina hermano 😁
Me too bro
Seeing Max do a KOF legacy makes want to play every game like all at the same time.
All of them are really good except for 94 XI and 03
@@Scrubermensch 11's great you mean 12.
@@Scrubermensch plus max didn't like 99 or 2000 and whined about on stream.
@@Scrubermensch XI is one of the best, it's XII that's rough.
@@Scrubermensch Woah XI is great man.
In Latinoamericana (where KoF i VERY popular) using any version of Rugal is seeing has a war crime. Everyone in the arcades would instantly hate you.
Puto el quien escoja a Rugal.
Which is weird considering that regular Rugal in 98 wasn't even broken.
Nothing better than defeating those Rugal guys.
Regular Rugal is ok, Omega Rugal and Orochi Iori/Leona is where the problem lies
GENOCIDE CUTTER 💀
12:46 I really love this stage.
This, the Yagami Team Stage (the one with the trains) and Omega Rugal's Stage (which is the Black Noah being destroyed) are my absolute favorites.
I would like to see these stages returning.
Geese Howard, the charismatic evil ruler of Southtown.
Rugal Bernstein, the illegal arms dealer with the ambition to become God.
and lastly:
Robert Garcia, who committed a grave sin: he referred to Geese Howard as "Rooster."
According to Kula Diamond, Robert's most vile quality is his talkativeness.
The opening is just godlike dude
I didn't play 98 Ultimate Match but that intro was awesome and the song too
Iconic
Mai taking out like 90% of the total team health in that third match was quite the sight.
Tits is the real boss of the game, here
This team setup makes me imagine an alternate universe where the Garcia Foundation does business with seedy crime syndicates
Brian looks like he was originally cast as a bad guy in _Cadillacs and Dinosaurs_ and stumbled into the wrong game.
Max, KoF is really popular in latin america, and it is widespread knowledge that picking Rugal in vs was considered a sin against the arcade room, you were marked a b*tchass and a cheap player, and oh boi was the bullying insane if somebody beat you while playing that abomination.
Which is funny because iirc Rugal is considered on the weaker side of the roster in the Original 98
@@goldengoldy0197 Rugal was crap, Omega Rugal was a monster. But if you played it wrong or against some Mai - Blue Mary - Clark combo freaks, you could easily lose the match I mean... The whole point of Omega is speed, if you get that cutoff, then you might as well be playing 94 Terry.
Ah 98' Remember the early days when I came out of school and the local store had x-men v. street fighter, a Neo arcade: had metal slug, tecmo world soccer '96, and bubble bobble. Then you have 96' just playing it's intro. Always got my eye. Good ol simple times. Just spending countless of quarters.
I like how Max is so used to be honorable in fighting games that he literally plays cheap SNK boss characters without using their cheapness. The 80% of the cheapness of SNK bosses dewells in their super safe, high damage, and sometimes infinitely spammable specials... XD. Rush in doing normal command normal into specials defeats the purpose of SNK bosses as in their specials are so safe and spammable that they don't need combos. Most of them can break the game simply with their anti air and projectile specials. Literally. They don't even need to move an inch to break the balance of the game completely. For example, all Omega Rugal needs to do to break the game is spam his electric ball projectile and mix in Genocide Cutter and that teleportation special when situation demands...
"Oh God Shermie, you gonna git it." -Maximillian "Max" Dood, 2022
So, the intro of Dong Dong Never Die is a parody of KoF 98'. After years and years, I'm only noticing now
One of my all-time favourites in the series. Favourite gameplay-wise of the Orochi Saga, especially for Yashiro, Orochi Yashiro, & Yamazaki. Surprised Max preferred the feel of '95 but regardless glad to see he had fun with this game. Unfortunate about '99 &'00 but hopefully he'll find enjoyment in XI or even '01 which I believe he liked from the Terry Legacy.
15:40
What!? So, not even snk's Requiem Dies Irae escapes from DMCA!?
Crap!
Excellent as always Max! Thank you for giving these games a chance! Excited for XV soon!!
That Alpha shirt you have on is awesome btw!
The classic final battle between Goenitz and Brian Battler. Kyo might control the flames, but Brian controls the pigskin like no one else.
Max picking up Robert was an unexpected yet pleasant surprise. Hopefully that means he'll play a bit more than 3 characters in Kof 15 before dlcs
Damn, 96 & 98 both went hard regarding the intros. And honestly, I kinda prefer the original 98 intro.
Same.
I much prefer the intro of vanilla 2002 over 2002UM's
'96 is my favourite just for the narrator.
I knew I saw the intro and though of Dong Dong Never Die, and I was like, "That's where the intro came from"
So Max, how does it feel to have ACTUAL POWER AT YOUR HAND?
OMG yes! I was thinking the same thing when I see him choosing Omega Rugal.
24:04
The power of orochi resonating, that's why the entrance, NEET!
"Thanks for the quarters. Now go home"
Said every arcade machine
That cutscene of Omega Rugal coming out of that pool of blood(?) and how the place have skulls was actually creepy 😨
I read that KOF 98 was going to have an actual story.
The PS1 port have images showing Rugal being inside a tube recovering.
He was apparently rescued by a mysterious man.
@V. S. Werejester Jejeje.
Si, lo más probable.
Y tal parece que va a regresar...otra vez :(
Oh no!
@@meganinten0078 I'm both intrigued, and horrified, by that implication. If Rugal does show up again, maybe Heidern will be able to eliminate him once and for all...
@@ryanm.8720 I will be honest.
I am NOT a fan of bringing back characters that were officially dead.
@@meganinten0078 I'm a bit more tolerant about characters being resurrected, but I admit that it makes the concept of death look weak if the character(s) simply cannot stay death. Especially with Star Wars, which brought back Darth Maul, Boba Fett, and Emperor Palpatine, yet other villains, such as Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Captain Phasma, and Snoke, stayed dead.
"I think Heavy is dead."
- Heavy, poking his own remains, Heavy Is Dead
@@ryanm.8720 Yeah...
I hate how they brought back Palpatine in episode 9
That movie was trash.
I am not a fan of how KOF XIV brought back Ash, that ruined the bittersweet ending of XIII and the entire point of that.
"Double Schpoopin'." - Geese Howard, KOF '98
Max: "yeah this one does sound very familiar"
Me: you've heard of this when you played Dong Dong Never Dies intro
KOF 98 UM with the 2002 UM the best ones in terms of playability talking about the 2Ds saga, the only difference apart from the characters of each saga was that in the 2002 UM the bosses where nerfed in damage while in this one they can delete you with just two combos, though in 2002 they are still bosses and have all they SNK Syndrome advantages, the only thing that bothers me about them is that the AI is poor and doesn't put a real challenge in both editions
Krauser's theme is classical music, it's totally safe.
It might be safe on UA-cam but not on Twitch
@@REDIVY78 Really? That's a really bad programed alghorithm then.
@@theLikou1 more like overreacting after they got in trouble over the DMCA garbage
I can't unhear kof 98's opening theme without thinking it's Dong Dong Never Die 🗿🗿🗿
Max: "I lived, bitch." *immediately gets kicked in the face by Kim*
XD
In Brazil we have a saying: "Proibido pegar Rugal, sujeiro a paulada" and I think it's beatiful...
Max: * Chooses Rugal *
Mexican players: " *Pathetic* " * and gets called puto for the rest of time *
All those intros are cool but the best intro for KOF 98 is actually Dreamcast's version KOF Dream Match 99 (expansion of 98). Its a full animated intro showcasing mechanics to the game while Kyo and Iori are brawling in an alley and the music is the best out of all the intros as well.
Geese is just so damn awesome. His music is legendary and is a perfect compliment to the absolute ass beating he gives.
Brian Battler surprisingly carrying his team to victory ✌
He went with the crazy boss characters, and not with Orochi. Max you had one job
Also, he didn't use Goenitz.
Oh yeah my favorite from this era of KoF:98! Had a lot of fun with this one once I downloaded it on my 360 which sadly meant that for some reason, the text in the new version was in Japanese while the OG was in tact. I still don't get why that happened but hey the new version gives you more characters and Max immediately picked Omega Rugal lol. At least it was not Orochi otherwise memories of a reviewer fighting his brother who kept using Orochi would come back lol. A great finale to the Orochi saga!
18:55 - Mr. Big's helicopter REVERSES FIREBALLS!? NANI THE FUCC!?
I've NEVER seen that before.
0:55 "This one sounds very familiar." Of course! It is the Dong Dong Never Die opening scene music ;)
The KOF '98 Intro just reminds me of Dong Dong Never Die now, and I don't think that's a bad thing.
Gee, I wonder why. The song is really good regardless.
KOF 98 is indeed one of my most favourite fighting games I’ve played. This is the one I’ve played the most. It has the most epic of opening ever made and I’ve remembered that you get to play the boss characters in the previous KOF games and that’s what made it so fun.
B4 Geese became a fighter he used to work at Scoops Ahoy with Steve Harrington because he really likes double scoopin'.
21:26
Damn, i didn't know i could do that!?
Thanks for the tip, muahahahaha
'Double spoopen' is making me giggle.
Going to be getting KOF XV after recently getting into the series. Great to see these games highlighted, as a long term Street Fighter fan I should have done it sooner.
@@starbreaker6441 Yeah, definitely noted 😄 I hear it's very different. I found a good guide that highlights the differences so that should help. Either way I can't wait!
If he's gonna go full reverse boss rage in the dream matches I hope he has fun doing infinites as Igniz
Yup, the Non-Canon entry (namely as there is no actual STORY for that one. Kyo was still MIA)
O. Rugal‘s projectile can be used mid-air, and Geese‘s Double Shippuken even twice per jump for four projectiles. The original early 90ies consoles, and many jammas with eeproms used 8-bit sound processors. Of course their sound could not age well. I would have picked Krauser instead of Garcia to complement the villains team. Krauser has got bad music? That‘s Dies Irae from the Mozart Requiem, philistine.
Max just wants to avoid getting dmca'ed by twitch hence the music change on krauser
@@Ramza30 Did not know you could still get dmca‘ed for a 230 year old IP…
I will say this.. Mr. Big's theme will always be my favorite theme out of the KOF series. That beat is so damn fire.
25:37 Did Omega Rugal do the Akuma pose???
my first experience with this is oddly enough dream match 99 on Dreamcast lol. that anime intro was classic
Same with me, always wondered why they even called it Dreammatch '99
@@InitialDL84 I always assumed if was to make sure you knew it wasn't quite the same as plain ol Slugfest 98... it has some differences. that and it being a dreamcast exclusive as far as that version went. I could be wrong tho. I just know this led to actual KoF 99 being called Evolution on Dreamcast.
@@zerobeatw2059 yeah I figured as much. I remember playing KOF '99 in arcades and thought that the Dreammatch '99 was the same game which made me get it. Then found out it was just an upgraded version of '98, but I still wasn't mad at it.
I heard the intro and i was like...."wait, i'm sure i didn't click the Dong Dong Never Dies hype and rage video"
Damn, i didn't know Krauser's theme could cause problems in Twitch.
Oh, this is a Twitch VOD re-edited, that explains everything! I was curious because the famous Japanese arcade Mikado posts many recordings of _Garou Densetsu (Fatal Fury) Special_ tournaments featuring Krauser and his stage and everything's just fine.... Thanks for the details! 😁
Omega Rugal reacts to Gonuts like any normal person on this earth does when they see him
Mr Big-
I'm the one who wants to be with you,
Deep inside I hope you feel it too,
Waited on a line of greens and blues ,Just to be the next to be with you
hearing the original intro in the arcades back in the day was awesome!
An easy combo i learned with U rugal is to do his teleport combo into genocide cutter(weak version) then go into his wall slam super(while in max mode) you will delete the opponents life points easily.
The Mexican in me got mad that you pick M. Rugal 😂
Fun fact the “Hate that shit” quote in the intro is only available in hacked arcade cabinets
In 98 um i love the interaction between krauser and rugal both shooting Kaiser wave at each other 🤣
It's so strange to see Rugal playing with himself...
Making Gees sound like the Swedish Chef with those air fireballs
20:20 RIP Briancopter, he never KOF'd again.
I have only played kof98 vanilla version thinking about picking up the Ultimate Version and see how it plays
Robert Garcia. The father of kicking ass with actual style in FG.
My favorite shoto of all time.
Are you craaaazyyyy? , Krause's theme is straight up Mozart dude!!!! its bonkers af
He muted it because of copyright
Welcome to the geno-side, Max, glad to have you!

My favorite KOF game, holds the title of being the only other game to include the USA Sports team besides their original debut
If this was DBZ, it would be like a team of Freeza, Cell, and Krillin :/
15:32 nahh krauser music is fire 🔥
mega respect to the chat knowing their stuff. they make these videos honestly 👌
The audio of Neo Geo CD was remastered and amazingly good. Shame the loading times were huge. But there are emulators nowadays that fix that.
Krauser theme: *exist*
UA-cam: THIS IS NOT OKIE DOKIE
14:29 thats dodging max, a factor that makes extra mode generally better with most of the cast
3 years ago, the mobile of '98 was my first KOF game and I absolutely loved, especially with my team of Kyo, Yuri and Shingo. Then Terry came into Smash that same and made me into a KOF and SNK fan
Max making DNO proud with the Brian Battler pick
The PS2 version of 98UM has beautiful 3D stages and arranged tracks, dunno why these features are absent in the X360 and PC ports
Maybe this content is exclusive to the PS2?
This is my favorite kof. Depending on the style you choose the gameplay changes, I like to play extra style. It's something I miss in the newer kofs
18:59 HOLY SHIT I didn't know that Mr. Big's move reflects projectiles lmao
17:35
"Do i actually have to play" starts spaming fireballs
I really don't know with kof 2003 story , Ash, Shen and Dou are the official story team, but I think it doesn't include any plot, in the other hand that Kyo, Chizuru, and Iori where they include hude plot than the official team.
The Ikari team won in 2003 and fought Adeil, while this was happening Kyo, Iori and Chizuru fought Makai
@@franciscoarzapalozapata4610 Kyo, Iori and Chizuru didn't fight Mukai. The K' team did. Kyo and Iori didn't fight anyone in 2003.
Sorry, but when I see the King of Fighters '98 intro, I now think of Dong Dong Never Die.
Plot Twist: Maximilian is actually Rugal
"Geese is only ok"...
Geese, Rugal and Robert
team "rich and bored"
Potential missed special intro at 14:50 with Rugal and Chris, maybe?
