Unintentionally performed this experiment extensively through the 90s.
And I kept the tradition going through the late 2010s. The redult has to change right?... right?
😂😂😂😂😭 this comment deserves more exposure😂😂😂
As a Band sometimes performance was good or improving until 6 beers ....8 ish beers before it was time to stop playing. (Coincidently 6 shots was where he missed the Fill.)

His ability to play after 10 shots proves he’s ready for touring.
Is that what they call the "touring test"? 😂
Lol

He's ready to start touring again, yeah
When your muscle memory for drumming is better than your muscle memory for walking...
Dude was wasted and still played better than most sober people. The power of skills and muscle memory
Reminds me about a gig we had where the drummer was so drunk he passed out and fell off the chair before we lifted him on stage and sat him behind the drums, he played the gig 100% flawless
drunk bandmembers..I've known a few...2 strikes..and out
Yeah great Cheech and Chong flick
Playing to the gnome while drunk makes drumming hits hit close, but you're chasing it. It's rough. I did it for years.
LOL same experience here, however we had to put the bass player's amp down because he couln't find the G string!
tbf i think it's cuz it's mostly muscle memory, so if you know the song well enough, yknow, it just comes out to some degree. Probably true for most other instruments as well i'd imagine. Of course, there's a point where you just aren't physically capable anymore i'm sure
Don't underestimate muscle memory. That was quite impressive.
That's what I said too... Next time is needs to add an element of randomness that he could handle sober.
so much many spend time to make it
Yeah, next time try something you just learned...or jazz...or funk...or pop. But that muscle memory is remarkable.
exaclty
Yeah, I think this would have gone very differently if he had played a different song each time. Only one way to find out, right? For SCIENCE!
You know theres a small window between sober and drunk where you become the song itself.
It is true that some musicians actually perform better with a small amount of booze. The limit is typically 1-3 drinks.

I am the Liquor
The third take was the best for me!
@@realblakrawbsober enough to know what im doing, but drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
this drum solo is forever imbedded in my head.
If only teachers would teach this way. 😆
Its not really a drum solo its the intro to Death - Painkiller
@@rustinpeace770 and the intro is a drum solo.
Can we all agree that Samus is better drunk than most of us sober? 😂😂😂
Well since probably 0.1 % of the viewers are really skilled drummer's and 5-30% I would assume are maybe decent drummer's or at least played more then once, I would actually say that I'm quite sure he probably stays in the top 1% of the viewership in terms of skill.
And yes, this comment isn't really needed, but it's more of a joke, then a serious analysis.
The math checks out @mine lol😂
I'd go as far to say he is better drunk than sober
agree
I was gonna say that...I can play that quite easily but Samus is tighter even drunk than I am sober. Haha. Awesome stuff...
Understand, everyone....he did this for US. This isn't alcoholism, it's research. Thank you, sir, for submitting yourself to this so that others could learn about the limits of human endurance.
it's also alcoholism
but eh one drink don't hurt nobody does it?
neither do 21 drinks apparently..
Definitely not alcoholism. It's called having a drink.
research 😂😂😂 on high level
Untrue. If he did it for us, he would have made 22
@indigomosquitos 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how his face never changed while he played he always looks like the happiest person while he’s drumming
Next level - authentic 80s rock drummer experience. Down a bottle and play the full hour set.
So this guy can drum better than he can walk and / or talk when he’s drunk. What an absolute legend
If only Joey had the same characteristics
Muscle memory
@@NukelearFallout yeah but like gross motor function and basically everything gets hindered, yet this man can still do THIS?
@@Aurora_17 Sure. I can still play games like Apex Legends 12 beers deep, and perform at an above average level. Some days I can play better wasted than I was previously playing sober
@@Aurora_17 Alcohol acts as a stimulant before a depressant. It activates so much
It is mildly irritating that after 21 shots, barely able to stand and reduced to a mumbling mess he's still better than I will ever be
19 in it still sounded good, Decreased after that.
21 drinks times 10 minutes, this was not done in a hurry...
I had a couple of beer doing a 2 hour set and i was pissed drunk and had to crash.
Fun video, sex
Hours and hours, and hours and hours, and hours and hours of practice. The muscle memory just kicks in.
With that attitude? Certainly.
Belligerent, kills it, drinks more, still way better than me.
@@gringochucha if you are really good you don't need to practice that much. I can go months without playing and still just jump right in and do it again maybe with just a short warm up. I have never had to spend hours x 10 just grinding away practicing.in the very beginning sure I spent a lot of time playing the same stuff over and over but 30 years in? nah, I could play a song I hadn't played in ten years while fully wasted and still do it perfect.
As an engineer, I respect your dedication to "science".
My favorite part of this is that you had someone there with you. Stay safe, people.

Samus: "I'm a lightweight"
Also Samus: **drinks 21 shots of fireball and plays the drums perfectly**
Yeah, back when I drank a lot, I'd sit down and try to play guitar, and I couldn't even get the thing in tune.... I'd wake up the next morning and it would be so out of tune, I'd have no idea how I got it there - and I would drink about the equivalent of what he did for this video, or maybe slightly less.
around 18 you could start to hear some of the timing off just a little bit. It was subtle but you could hear it more in the snare but after that you could barely tell any more.
@@nongovernment3606 I could hear slight swing after 6 but slight fumbling after 14 which speaks shitloads of his playing skill.. I'd wouldn't find the g-string on my bass after 14 shots :P
Yeah "Lightweight"...and still playing after all that booze. All this taught me is that I am definitely a lightweight!
almost 22🥸🥳
He had to stop to avoid alcohol poisoning.
Painkiller is one of my all time favorite drum parts. Legendary, and he was still killin' it.
15:00 Samus’ laugh gets me every time! 😂
I love how your ability to speak declines way faster than your ability to drum. Respect.
Because playing an instrument is mostly muscle memory at some point depending on how many timed you played the song.
@@djargen And that, my friend, is complete BS. There is no such thing as "muscle memory". It is only an expression used to described learned motor skills.
@@maxczapski2239 And that, my friend, we call "muscle memory"
@@NOYL_Guitar Yeah, dude, but it's the same with a learned language, as$.
@@NOYL_Guitar And before you say any other thing, the dude himself said "I can play drums better than I can walk". But maybe he doesn't use his "muscle memory" to walk? If you knew anything about drumming and neuroscience, you wouldn't be such a smartass, I guess, Frenchie boy.
A drummer proves what everyone who's ever been in a band already knew, that they can and will play the drunkest.

I think I would have it fairly committed to muscle memory at this point.. so.. then playing drums as drunk as he was would be easy..
Only have to concentrate for a few seconds..
Play the whole song after shot 15.
And then.. watch the playback and laugh at yo silly faces during each fill!! As you progress through the shot ladder..
for real, drummers can fucking drink! John Bonham would be impressed
thanks to the lady for her patience and help, cause this was awesome to watch guys!
Been there, done that, lol. I kept thinking "oh, he doesn't know that he's going to be able to play until he's unconscious." You are legend for making this vid. Thank you for punishing yourself for our entertainment.

This is the epitome of "Don't practice until you get it right rather, practice until you can't get it wrong".
thats actually a beast of a line. i gotta remember that one.
🤯 That's the most truest musical statement and advice Ever!!! 👌
I dont know how manny drummers I've known in my years that couldn't even talk, but played amazingly well with no screwups. Just amazing what muscle memory can accomplish.
The most entertaining show i ever seen about drumming... Thank You for your efforts
Being a singer, I’m kinda jealous of how many drinks a drummer can have and still sounds great.
It's what keeps us drummin
Drummer’s usually metabolize much faster than singers.
As a singer and guitarist, I could always out-drink drummers
Amen.
Most ppl wouldn’t stay this good after that much.
I'm just now seeing this, and 5 shots in, you would certainly get a DUI if you tried to drive, but your drumming is ON POINT! It's a testament to how second nature drumming is to someone that is talented.
Drumming Under Influence?

Props to Carrie for encouraging you to stop at 21. And for enduring what must have been a 5 or 6h-long shoot. Completely sober.
She only stopped him at 21 so he didn't beat her 22 lmao! Just kidding obviously
She’s a good wife. Thats what a good wife does.
The fact that you took 21 shots of fireball and still played the drums is astounding.

Also dopamine and serotonin, but I don't know if they're released to "protect" or just because of the ethanol.
@@xen0n534 I probably should of used a different word other than protective. I believe the body is producing these chemicals in response to the poison as a coping mechanism. Much like if you receive a serious injury you wouldn't feel it until later due to all the natural pain killers being released. The alcohol in and of itself doesn't have any euphoric properties it's the chemical cascade produced by the endocrine system that feels so good.
