- I saw one picture of this vintage jet boat and knew I had to win the auction for it. This 1977 Spectra has a Berkley pump, a freshly rebuilt 454 and a custom ground cam in it. I'm not sure there's a boat on earth thats this fun for this little money. Then @WestenChamplin and I got both jet boats out to do some racing and play around for the day.

The secret to boating is to know someone with a boat. It will save you thousands.
My friend was curious about trying sailing. Went to the local yacht club and an owner has posted on the noticeboard begging for crew. He phoned the guy, said he had no experience, the guy said no problem. He had a good quality lifejacket to loan him too and over a couple of seasons he got to know the ins and outs of yachting. When the boat was out of the water, he was happy to go down and help clean the hull. Result ! It didn't cost him a dime

@@1crustyoldmsgtretired870 If that was directed at my anecdote, everyone tidied, and rotated bringing food/water for their day's out. But in terms of being charged a fee for the use of the boat, there was nothing. The owner was just happy to have a crew, and despite everyone offering to pitch in on marina fees/ maintenance fees/ running costs, he wouldn't hear of it. So in that sense, it didn't cost a dime. Mind you, the owner got a helluvah Christmas party courtesy of the crew every year

The Marina in my area has non-ethanol gas. All the service stations all have at least 10% ethanol. Sometimes for small engine tools to get the ethanol free gas I have to go to the marina and pay the premium.

Boats are always huge mistakes. Big, beautiful, expensive, fun-filled holes in the water that you throw money into. Few things more enjoyable than a full day on the lake. Worth every penny and headache.

When my dad and I would,go,fishing with our outboard boat, and these guys came down with their loud as can be inboard boats, he called them 'mosquito repellers' because all of them stored their boats forever, then for a couple days in the summer, they bring the boats down and they smoke so much from sitting, then they drive around the lake, smoking and making loud noises annoying everyone. In saltwater we callled them 'customers' because they would breakdown and need a tow. We never asked for money, but he got paid usually. Ome time he even took themguy to the marine parts store and showed him the clip he needed for his prop. Wasn't a jet boat, but an inboard. Guy ran over an oyster bed. Idiots.

Bro! I have the exact same boat! A 1978 Spectra in yellow and white! They just dont make them like this anymore, new boats feel like theyre going to fall apart on rough water, these hulls are THICK on the older jets...try having a dance party on the deck of a newer ultra...can you say stress cracked gel coat? Ive had 4 drunk 300lbs natives jumping on the bow and it was fine (well, not fine by me, but she survived)

My jet boat price range is probably more in the pre-restoration/bad motor/struck by lightning/total loss/previous owner was whistlindiesel/i'll trade you for a rusty f150 with bad brakes type range, this thing looks pretty nice. Any vague idea on price you want for it?

Personally im not a fan of boats at all. Mainly the fact that when anything goes wrong, you're stranded, or swimming.
Paddling sucks way more than walking.
Good rule of thumb, if a boat is exposed to the weather, that fiberglass is super brittle after 20 years.
Used to work for a local lake recovery place. There were almost always more calls than we could keep up with.

I looked at a jet boat in the 80's when I was single. I decided it was too costly and I wouldn't get enough use out of it.

Don't know if you sold it yet- but have you thought about marketing the boat in Lake Havasu in Arizona? Those people seem to be Jet Boat Crazy there! after looking at an Atlas - I'd say that was a dumb idea because it looks like it is about 1400 miles from Wichita to Lake Havasu! They only made those boats from 1977 and closed in 1981 (probably because they sucked gas and that was the start of smaller engines and gas mileage! In and around 1979 gas was 86 cents a gallon so who cared! Mostly that was the start of pollution control crap too!

If so, that was my boss's brother that found that boat in a garage on a piece of property he bought, and that boat belonged to a professional bass fisherman and was a prize given I believe for a tournament he won, I don't know the name but my boss knew the name real well. My boss owns a pizza franchise called Imo's, I'm very sure that boat came from him
You should check with goon squad Brothers about a trade they have that jet drag racing boat maybe they would do a even swope with you i know they had the drag motor sent out for repair

I hate to say it, but it's hard to follow anymore. Are we fixing cars? Or are we installing water softeners? A 15 minute video about putting a couple drain plugs in a boat engine? Maybe a video about fixing some random friend or family members car, but with little or no footage of the actual repair. It's like Seinfeld ... a show about nothing.

I will never buy a motor boat. Not worth the time or money, especially in my area where boating weather only lasts about 4.5 months. Floating or paddling around is enough and can always rent someone's else's headache if you want to go fast.
Used boats are always a mistake. Just become friends with someone who owns a boat. Bring the beer and snacks and all is well.

There is never, ever ever a such thing as a cheap boat. Does it matter if you bought it new or if it was given to you free? No, as a former marine technician. Every time you take a boat out inboard. Outboard, it's gonna cost you a $1000. That's what That's what we called in the industry. Bust out 1000. Bayliner of the mid-nineties were the worst as an official Merck cruise dealer. We get inboard outboards And outboards. And their theory was to hell of quality the warranty to crap out of them and if they come back, so be it, but if they don't, they still make their money and their product was horrible, but justin general don't know how many boats we Worked on by customers. That said their friend gave him both. He got disposed cheap. If Berlin needs anything can we end up? Crushing the customer's dreams cause there was so much money to get these things up and running. Usually no maintenance is done corroded with salt. Water drives Campbell housing practice. Corroded corroded coroned frozen place
