I'm putting this video out a bit early because I'm heading off tomorrow for 2 weeks holiday. Where I'm going doesn't have consistent internet, so I might not be able to answer many comments... I will of course, still appreciate them and read them when I can.
A few things that have been catalogued on the Portable Antiquities database, but nothing that would really change or add to our understanding of historical events. Yet.

I was just about to say the same thing. Someone needs to hire Tom to read relaxation meditation type things. The most relaxing voice on UA-cam with a kind heart to boot.
Thanks Tom you are a wordsmith if that is the correct way to say it. Much of your descriptive chats are poetry to my ears. The camera work with the reflections and the timing that you use while you narrate is awesome. Just well done.
It's fairly varied... my shortest mudlarking video was shot in half an hour, including a round up on the beach. Dump site videos usually take between 1 and 4 hours, and river walking videos usually take at least 4 hours (plus the time to travel there and back). It's all dwarfed by the time it takes to edit the footage. 🙂
What a great long ramble up your river/stream! Thank you for your efforts! Love the red glass, the wee boat (can't believe you plan to release it, but then again, I enjoy collecting found things and curiosities, so I think I'd try to find an owl... maybe a pussy cat... a runcible spoon... gaze happily at it all as they gather dust over future decades... I'm happy to watch you gather your copper wire and brass bits. I scrap (I can no longer lie to myself about future jewelry/crafty/artistic endeavors) and make a decent pocketfull every month or so. Lead, brass, aluminium, copper and copper wire. I appreciate your mission: doing your best to carry out the worst of what you see along the way. We do what we can. There's nothing hypocritical about trying. Hope your holiday was/is relaxing and- dare I say fun?! Be well- and cheers from Maine!
Very nice Tom. I watched the last half of your live broadcast when I got in from a late day at work. I’ll catch up on the first part later. Beautiful environment and sounds
Thanks Artie. Not my finest filming; I tried to fit 2 and a half hours of painting into 52 seconds of talking... and it was a bit fast. Oh well, I'll hopefully start work on filming the final project when I get back from vacation (which is going well so far) 🙂
💙💚🖤 Tom, don't pay any mind to the people calling you hypocritical! They obviously don't know you 😡 You are so conscientious of the environment and always take so much trash with you. Those of us that have been watching you for a while know better. Just block those people and their nasty comments! You are so loved by so many of us 💙💚🖤
*Kia ora Tom, Have a awesome holiday break. BTW you missed a broken shovel at 4.27. I love the fidget triangle stone, even I would carry one in my pocket to fidget with. At 36.30 how does a concrete mixer end up in a river - stolen or dumped!!! If you can remember exactly where it was then contact the local scrap-metal folks in the area & they will collect it, less rust in the river & they make money. I enjoy the scenery shots too and the glistening water as it ripples along on my 27inch monitor on full screen too.*
Kia ora Andrea. I saw the broken shovel, but didn't mention it... I was enjoying the light on the ripples of the water too much, they were a bit mesmerizing. I think the concrete mixer was dumped, tipped down the hillside, and rolled down to the waters edge... it's not the first one I've found. I don't know why people would dump them when it's probably as easy to get a scrapper to pick them up, and not all that difficult to take it to a scrap yard personally and get a bit of money for it. I don't think it'll be easy for the scrap metal hunters to get it out now, it would take a team of 3 at least to lift it back to the roadway, too many trees in the way to drag it out. I could certainly point them in the direction of a few, very heavy pieces of metal in the rivers that would be easier to get, so I might see if I can make contact with one. Glad to know the water looks good on bigger screens, and thank you so much for the Superthanks (I'm guessing that that was you!?). It's the first time anyone's done that on my channel, and made me smile. 🙂
You have truly outdone yourself this time! But I so worry about you when you go towards the dark tunnels...alone? As much as I love the adventures, I wouldn't be comfortable w/o carrying a bit of security. The nozzle looks to have dispensed the white wiggly swirls on the chocolate cupcakes! The pick looks like a gold miner's most valuable tool! I love the little boat!! Wonder about the little boy who cried when he went home without it. And the dad disappointed, never daring to show to show it. And maybe his new boat was bigger and of course, better. Wild garlic! I think they look similar and could be what we call "ramps!" They grow in deciduous mixed forests in the NC foothills. I'd love one day to go to one of the early spring festivals they have. Many foods (ice cream too) made from ramps! I'd love even more to grow my own! Sorry to digress! A very enjoyable journey! Most impressive was the violin(?) rendition of your larking theme song! Gorgeous!
Yes, so far, all my tunnel explorations have been alone. I've identified a few where I'll need company for safety... have a friend who's interested to go on one of his few days off work. And yes, wild garlic is also known as Ramps here too... makes a wonderful pesto. Haven't tried mixing it into ice-cream, but that does sound interesting. They do grow quite well in a shaded part of our garden, I think we introduced them after I accidentally picked a bulb when foraging. It was a cello rendition of the theme tune, I found someone on Fivver to do it. 🙂
That ceramic "nozzle" looks like a bushing or lead-in insulator from a terminal box or thin wall... Wire either used to be bare or coated in primitive rubber or paper... As a result, the ceramic was a barrier between the wire and steel casing. That thick twisted steel wire is from armoured cable. Cable thieves burn the plastic coating off leaving the steel armour behind and taking the copper... Hence why this is regularly found. Seem to be lots of damaged insulators in that river which is interesting... Probably once had telegraph poles along the side which would be given away by guy wire anchors in the ground. I'd love to have access to such fruitful watercourses, but I agree with the sick feeling when I see plastic in them. Another great video and I still love your theme music!
I truly appreciate your highly informative and rather calming videos. Hope your holiday was relaxing and rejuvenating. Can’t wait to see another lark. ♥️🐿
Beautiful Tom. And I’m surprised to hear that there are ridiculous comments of the nature you described. i’m glad that I never read comments. You are clearly conscientious. The opposite of their word. Thanks again for a lovely walk in a magical place.
Thanks Linda. I don't mind hearing criticisms, and ones such as suggesting I'm a bit hypocritical are fine. I get off lightly usually, I've only had a couple of really nasty comments in the 3 years I've been doing this; most youtube creators get far more than I do.
Hello Tom, the river walk was very soothing. Sorry you got so tired. I am really happy that you take as much plastic out of water as you can manage. Don't understand why so much junk gets thrown in rivers and streams. Greetings from North Carolina U.S.A.
Another calming river walk Tom. I love the walks filming the rippling water surfaces. They have a texture of their own. I’m surprised you didn’t take a taste of the wild garlic. I hope you do video tape on your vacation and edit it when you get home. Have a great vacation! Bye for now from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🙋♀️🇨🇦
Thanks Dorothy, I did have a bit of the wild garlic. I might be filming one video here, but I've got enough videos stacked up to last at least a year, so I won't feel too bad if I don't manage it... I have at least had a first flight of my drone, a bit of practice at flying it, and I'll get the kayak out for a paddle around the moat of a ruined castle some time and hope to try and film some of that. 🙂
The waterway tunnels are so interesting. I appreciate being able to walk through them via your videos. You certainly don’t seem to have claustrophobia! I hope you get to do some interesting mudlarking while on vacation.
Thank you for clearing up a mystery for me- I have found some of those ceramic triangles on my beach here in the East Neuk of Fife and had no idea what they were . Loved this walk upstream and through peaceful woodland . I liked the wee boat you found and the partial marble, marble finds always give me a little jolt of pleasure.
A great video as always. Stop and start as many times as you need, your health and well-being is your priority. It is indeed terrible to see all the rubbish, my boys and I also pick up rubbish, even on dog walks. It all helps, (we hope). Love the tiny pick and the little polish stones. The dragon head is awesome.
An amazing video tom!! love the boat, tiny bottle and lumps of glass. Maybe use the big aqua glass sherd as a paper weight or something like that. Loving the sculpture too! stay well & happy hunting
Thanks Adam, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and... that's what I've been using the glass for since filming the round-up. 🙂 Stay well, and happy hunting to you too.
Hello Tom, watching your videos really makes my week. Your voice is so soothing and the places you take us are truly wonderful and peaceful. On a Saturday evening I always look to see if you have posted any thing new for me to enjoy and make my day. If not I always go back and re watch some of my favourite ones. River walking I do so love. Thanks so very much for sharing your wonderful home and your love of it with me. Take care.
Thank you so much for the wonderful views you share with us, Tom B. I am especially loving the beautiful photos of the surfaces of the water showing the still reflection on one side and the magical liquid pattern of the fall on the other side. Fabulous!
So nice to watch a video of yours again, Tom. I hope you're having a wonderful, restful vacation. I was so exhausted when I started watching this video on July9th that I had to stop it and save it to Watch later. Today is the 10th, I am well rested, and thoroughly enjoyed your river ramble from the beginning. Your rusty implement looks like a cross between a full-sized pick ax and a large rock hammer. Unless you intend for it to be used again, I think just a little spit & polish would suffice. I'd much rather see your energy directed towards that dragon sculpture. It's selfish of me, I know, being as I was born in the Year of the Dragon. ;) As always, your guitar playing, and Rowena's cello music provided the perfect mood interludes. Keep looking after yourself, Tom. You are very much valued in my world.
I missed the live chat, but have just watched your as always very enjoyable and relaxing video. Thank you for taking the nasty stuff out of the waterways, l love to see the interesting things, the little boat is adorable, I'm very impressed with your crafting skills.
Must of missed this video… was introduced to your channel over a year back by Northern Mudlarks, Gail & Alex🦋 I love your vibe & voice. Knowledge, diversity, music 🎶 , talent & actions of cleaning up your environment 🌸 ☮️🇨🇦💜
Would absolutely love to see you make a magnet 🧲 fishing video 🙏 hope you have had a wonderful holiday. I personally love seeing you collect wire and always appreciate you taking away the plastic from the river . Thank you for taking care of yourself , my son was diagnosed with epilepsy last year. Rest , food and hydration are so important . I always think that it’s important to talk about homelessness , I was twice homeless . So appreciate you being so open about it . Sending blessings your way 🙏
It's been hot here in Seattle, so seeing the water really helped. Thank you for taking us with you Tom. Your videos really make my day. I love all the musical scores in this video. Enjoy your holiday and be safe!
Great walk along. That would be great magnet fishing!! We do that in our area, here in the states. Never came across anything great yesterday. Thanks for taking us along your mudlarking.
Another soothing river walk with a bit of history too. Thank you for caring enough to pick up plastic and rubbish from the waterways 🙏🙏 . It’s nice to see the trees coming back to life again and a beautiful river walk on a hot day. Hope you have/had a nice holiday, take care and thank you for sharing 👍👏❤️
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the different elements. I wish I could take more of the plastics out, but I'm always glad when I can see evidence that I'm not the only one doing a bit. The holiday is nice so far. 🙂
@@tom_burleigh I think if everyone got on board and took just one bag with them and picked up the plastic things the world would be a better place for not just the environment but for us too 💖💖
I really enjoy all of your walks and talks. You find all kinds of fun things and your history lessons are great to listen to. Chances are I will never get to see in person all of the places you wander. Your adventures allow us to see some parts of your country that otherwise we would never get to experience. Thank you and keep it up!
Thanks Karyn. I'm glad you enjoy them all, I personally think this one is one of the better ones... the water and light was just wonderful, and I'm so glad I caught some of that magic. 🙂
A very nice hunt today. Very clean water to hunt in. Beautiful stone finds, and the flat pick axe. Good to see you again, Tom. See you on the next. Cheers mate!
Thanks for sharing your lovely dragon. It was a pleasant surprise at the end of another relaxing enjoyable walk. My husband thinks you must be a Meyers Briggs INFP because of your good natured commentary and multitude of projects on the go. I can relate.
Hello 👋 from New York USA you found some Amazing Finds my Favorite Definitely Was the Marble the vulcanite bottle stopper and the Little Bottle Thank you for bringing me along with you on your mudarking Adventure it was Absolutely Beautiful there I can't wait to see what you Find next 😊
I love the play of light on water in your videos. I liked the mysterious tunnels. I agree that becoming homeless can really happen to anyone. We all crash at some point, and becoming part of the statistics is just a matter of having, or not, a place to retreat to and rebuild ourselves. I like the little copper trophee. It's elegant. Nice video as always.
Charlie Veitch went wandering through a canal tunnel in Manchester the other day, be careful Tom you never know what or who you come across…steer clear of the Manchester canal system!
Bravo Tom, another fantastic walk in the river. I think the hammer could be a minerologists hammer for taking samples. I am always amazed at the brickworks and how well those bridges have aged.Have a great time on your vacation . I think i will take the opportunity to catch up on some of your past videos.
Hi Tom I Love your Videos the history we learn with you is Amazing and your voice is so soothing also the scenery and thr music in your Videos are beautiful I agree with everything you said about the environment and protecting it
I was introduced to your videos through watching Kit and Caboodle. I’m really loving your beautiful filming and calming talk. Such a shame all the rubbish that finds its way into our nature
Another excellent video, Tom. I appreciate your honesty in how you may or may not approach or complete a project. It's very practical. Thank you for your time and efforts in walking the rivers, filming as you go along and taking the time to edit it all together. It's hard work and you do it wonderfully! Thank you.
One of your best videos. I don't know you personally, so I don't know if it's your age or if you're still feeling the affects of covid; or something I am not aware of but I do wish you good health. Take good care of yourself. And thank you so much for the beautiful video.
Thanks Annie. I think it was the heat that really wore me down on this outing... I prefer autumn, and spring days that feel like spring instead of summer🙂. And of course, I'm getting older, less nimble... and my fitness is never at its best in Spring, it fades away over winter when I don't get out walking as often, or for as far.
Loved the walk, thank you for taking us along. The music was also very pleasant listening, was that a cello being played? I especially enjoyed that part. I wish I knew how to find dumps in my area for a lark adventure. Enjoy your holiday Tom.
Thanks Sue, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it was a cello... not me playing, someone I found on Fivver. I hope you can find some dumpsites eventually... I usually find the ones I know by stream walking, following the pottery and glass pieces to their source. 🙂
I'm putting this video out a bit early because I'm heading off tomorrow for 2 weeks holiday. Where I'm going doesn't have consistent internet, so I might not be able to answer many comments... I will of course, still appreciate them and read them when I can.
Tom have you ever found something of historical significance?
A few things that have been catalogued on the Portable Antiquities database, but nothing that would really change or add to our understanding of historical events. Yet.
Have a nice holiday! Happy history hunting.
Have a wonderful relaxing holiday
Being off line can be quite freeing!
Take care

Same! Tom shows so much kindness and respect!

No walk is ever long enough with you Tom. Love our travels and great finds..
Thanks Sue, I'm glad you enjoy coming along. 🙂
I find you quite caring about the environment. You are very sweet I can tell. May God bless you
Thank you Barbara, may God bless you too. 🙂
What a wonderful view
Looking forward to watching tomorrow Tom!! :)
Thanks Craig and Nicole, I hope you enjoy it. 🙂
Yeah! Tom is BACK 😃
Thanks Tom you are a wordsmith if that is the correct way to say it. Much of your descriptive chats are poetry to my ears. The camera work with the reflections and the timing that you use while you narrate is awesome. Just well done.
Thanks for taking me with you. I didn’t realise that it takes 4hrs to walk and film enough. I look forward to your videos.. thankyou👍

A beautiful adventure :)

Interesting place to mudlark
Great video Tom enjoyed it
Thanks Mark. Sorry for my previous comment, mistook you for Manchester Mudlarks. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and hope you're well. 🙂
Thank you Tom, for your care and concern for the natural world. Happy travels .
We will enjoy this video & hope you have a good break. You mean a lot to the people who watch your videos. Take care & have fun
Yes to magnetic fishing Tom, that would be lots of fun. Thank you for the video.

Thanks for taking us with you Tom, great video 👌😊
What a relaxing wander through the river. So peaceful. And I could sit in that window and stare at that view for hours! It’s so beautiful 😊
Must of missed this video… was introduced to your channel over a year back by Northern Mudlarks, Gail & Alex🦋 I love your vibe & voice. Knowledge, diversity, music 🎶 , talent & actions of cleaning up your environment 🌸
☮️🇨🇦💜
Thanks Millie. I hope you do find something great someday, or at least exciting. 🙂
Tom, love your videos and can’t wait to see your crafting ones! Love from Vancouver Island, BC
Thanks Mary. 🙂
@@tom_burleigh I think if everyone got on board and took just one bag with them and picked up the plastic things the world would be a better place for not just the environment but for us too 💖💖
I love watching your video's they are so relaxing. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the things you find are great
I really enjoy all of your walks and talks. You find all kinds of fun things and your history lessons are great to listen to. Chances are I will never get to see in person all of the places you wander. Your adventures allow us to see some parts of your country that otherwise we would never get to experience. Thank you and keep it up!
Such an amazing video, as they always are. Thanks Tom!!
Have a great holiday ….see you soon!! 🥰
Thanks Karyn. I'm glad you enjoy them all, I personally think this one is one of the better ones... the water and light was just wonderful, and I'm so glad I caught some of that magic. 🙂
Thank You Tom…❤️🇨🇦So Relaxing … Have A Great Holiday 👍
A very nice hunt today. Very clean water to hunt in. Beautiful stone finds, and the flat pick axe. Good to see you again, Tom. See you on the next. Cheers mate!
Thanks for sharing your lovely dragon. It was a pleasant surprise at the end of another relaxing enjoyable walk. My husband thinks you must be a Meyers Briggs INFP because of your good natured commentary and multitude of projects on the go. I can relate.
I love the pick/hammer. Great finds 😁
👍
Cieszę się,że jest nowy film.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie 🇵🇱
Dziękuję, cieszę się, że lubisz moje filmy. 🙂
Tom, if you picked up a handfull of mud people would find it interesting ;)
Thanks Mateus. Might test that sometime. 🙂
ROFL I suspect you are correct, Mateus.
The big bottle stopper looks like a Mushroom. My granddaughters love to make fairy gardens and that would fit in perfectly even chipped.
Very interesting seeing places I could never visit. Thank you for sharing your travels.
Great video as always. The hammer you found looks like a vintage/home made version of a welder's flux chipping hammer.
Have an awesome holiday
Charlie Veitch went wandering through a canal tunnel in Manchester the other day, be careful Tom you never know what or who you come across…steer clear of the Manchester canal system!
I'll keep that in mind when I next visit Manchester. Did fancy exploring some of the tunnels there, but doubt I ever will.
Bravo Tom, another fantastic walk in the river. I think the hammer could be a minerologists hammer for taking samples. I am always amazed at the brickworks and how well those bridges have aged.Have a great time on your vacation . I think i will take the opportunity to catch up on some of your past videos.
Wow !!! Great Finds
You are a brave soul to peer into those tunnels and bridges.
I love the cello version of your musical piece. Lovely.
Thanks Jennifer. I'm glad I hunted out someone to play it. 🙂
Tom, I'm eagerly awaiting your next video!
Nice video. Your view is beautiful.
@@tom_burleigh Oh dear. :o I thought that was Rowena playing the cello. How on earth did I make that mistake? *sigh* Getting old sucks!! LOL
Enjoyed the water-creekside walk, an enjoyable interlude
Thanks Bonnie, I'm glad you liked it. 🙂
Thanks!
Thanks Mina, this is very kind of you. 🙂
