  • Mud larking in winter, after storms and snow; braving the cold to find old and interesting things. I wasn't the 1st back at the big cliff face dumpsite after the winter storms, but I might have been the luckiest. It was hard going, but I had a lot of fun.

I like to imagine a granny tossing out one of those broken blue and white plates with a sigh; and her never imagining another granny in another country having a look at it, via a medium that had not yet been invented, a century later. What would she think? Lovely, brave lark and the sunset shots are breathtaking. So pleased it was fun for you. Was for me, too. Thank you.

Since I was a young girl, I would get cold drinking milk or eating ice cream, so I know a bit about cold water. I would probably have an actual heart attack if I ever tried to do a Polar Plunge, so I am NOT going to put my hand/arm into ice melt. You are stronger than I. The small buttons could be from children's clothing or doll clothes. Perhaps you could get one of Carolyn's 'grabby things' to keep your hand dry when the water is so icy. Lovely sunset.

09:20 - 09:50 As you waded through all the pottery sherds, I had a thought that I would love to fill an empty shopping bag with all those pieces, and then see what, if anything, matched, or what might be created from them. That will never happen of course, but it was lovely to think about. 😊😍

Thanks Julie. If nothing else, it's quite an experience; sharing spaces with baby birds. I reckon you'll be a bit sad once they've gone. 🙂 There's some wagtails currently nesting in our outdoor stove, and some song thrushes in the hedge, and lambs bouncing around in the fields beyond. It's a great time of year. 🙂

@@JaneEllenMusic One day, I'll finish recording the EP... but not for a long time if my progress so far is anything to go by.

Do you shape the pieces at all before tumbling? I think some of the slag glass pieces I have will need to be ground down a bit beforehand, or there'll be too many bubbles left in.

I had a similar spiritual sunset experience in Saguaro National Park in Arizona. I got to an area of rocks full of petroglyphs just as the sun made the sky glow pink and orange. The low light really picked out the carvings, and I had the place to myself. Thinking back on it still makes me all tingly. I totally get your feelings about the sunset-on-water experience.
