Thanks Tom. I'm hopeful there won't be so many big gaps in my upload schedule this year, and if all goes to plan, I'll even get some craft videos done. I hope you have some great mudlarking finds, and wonderful times in 2023 🙂
Another lovely walk along the water is so very soothing, even if you don't find valuable relics, considering eye of the beholder and all that. Amazing to me is how the early industrializations stand silent of their own accord, being torn down by only roots and ivy. I often wonder how you keep track of all the projects you have in store; how you compartmentalize them without going mad (although I hear the best people are.) Seems lately details/projects I once called up at a moment's notice, are becoming overwhelming to just think about. There's a secret to it, I know...and you have conquered it.👍🏻
It’s always nice to find a new video from your walks. This was exceptionally beautiful with the rippling water and green canopies, not to mention the occasional bird sounds. It will be nice to see more flat blue or green ( or any other colour) pottery pieces you collect. It’s freezing now in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 so a warm look back to the summer days agrees with me. The beauty of this video really pulled at my heart strings. The poetic lilt in your voice guides us up and down stream. Reminds me of my childhood. I'm sorry there is so much rubbish but at the same time I'm so grateful...
There's certainly some absolutely beautiful places around here, I rarely film the most picturesque. I hope if you do ever visit, you have a lovely time... and I hope you're keeping well too.🙂
Best thing that happened all day! Sometimes I take screenshots of the water reflections. They make beautiful abstract screensavers. Hope that isn't theft!
Anyone is absolutely welcome to take screenshots from my videos, for any non-commercial use. I'm glad you're getting enjoyment from the fleeting ripples and reflections long after they're gone, and even beyond the videos. 🙂

I so enjoy these videos! Your kind demeanor, knowledge about so much, and willingness to take us along is wonderful. I especially love when we see old structures as here in the US, an "old" structure is typically only 100-200 years old. Nice video. I like the reflections on the water. And was there a new melody? It's one I missed if it's not new. Happy New Year, in good health, filled with joy and discoveries!
Happy New Year and many salutations Tom another soothing video. That ceramic insulator was a wonderful find I’m sorry you lost it bet it was what I call a oh doy moment.😮 hate it I’m sure you’ll find another some other time. Interesting pieces of old machine everything is as made so solid back in the past. Time and slow moving currents haven’t completely deteriorated the metal. I to live the flashes of lights and ripples in water. I used to I’ve near the river and loved to watch the flashes of light on the little minnows as they passed by. I had a neighbor with a domestic duck and a wild mallard bred with it and their babies loved to go floating downstream. They looked very strange intend. I’m sorry the invasive plants have taken over your UK waterways. I think in another you said our crayfish had somehow invaded there too somehow. We call them crawdads here. Be glad y’all don’t have kudzu that stuff just takes over everything .

I enjoyed seeing the sunshine and as always the beautiful rivers and streams. I think the little fish may be a Bullhead and appropriately for this video known as Millers thumb. I am intrigued to see what your collection of blue and white pottery will become. Thank you Tom, take care.
Just as I got a craft idea to make use of blue and white pieces, I stopped finding so many. Now they're one of my top targets for what I'm looking for. (my idea, in case you fancy doing similar, is making a bird bath, tiled in blue and white sherds. 🙂
@@tom_burleigh I slung all the pieces i found as i have no use for them.If i had known i could have saved them for you and sent them to you.Nice idea for the bird bath.
The float reminded me of the dual carburetors on my MG. I had an MGBGT in germany and it had dual carburetors. I could sit and watch water flow over stones in a river for hours.
I've always enjoyed your larks and while I started with other sites from your side of the Atlantic, yours are so laid back and relaxing. My friends always say that I was born in the wrong country. Thank you.
It might take a bit of effort, but if you really wanted the mill trolly cart, you could tie a rope to it and drag it up to the top of the embankment. And perhaps a large wagon or wheelbarrow could help move it to the car. Would be neate to see you restore it, though.
Because they were broken, they look different, but those insulators are all standard number 1 style ones. They are the shippams pot of the insulator world basically, so I wouldn't mourn them either unless they had odd markings. The smaller version of that style called a "queens" pattern is nicer. I have covid currently which is awful, but your videos are always soothing. If I ever get to Yorkshire, I'll help you lug some mill carts out. I like that flotation chamber too. That "brazing torch would make a good Star Wars blaster!
Star Wars blaster is a very cool idea, thanks Richard. Thanks also for the confirmation that the insulators weren't especially special. I hope you're starting to feel better, and that you aren't left with any long lasting symptoms. I doubt the mill cart is still there now, the river has been 1.5m higher than usual in the last few days, easily enough to carry it off downstream.... but, I'm sure there'll be finds I'll need help getting out again. 🙂
always super photography, your location is beautiful, my rivers are somewhat dry, but we do have one or two that are not, but because of venomous snakes would not go in them. I had one not long ago creeping up my stair, nasty viper, but I like snakes, it was more scared of me, it slithered away to our Baranco, which is Spanish for ditch, ours is meters high, but when the rain comes you can hear the water rushing by. And attracts mosquitos and toads.
I was going to say it looked like you had the components to make a steampunk lamp with the insulator as a base, the brass heater part as a stem, and the brass car part float as the shade for the bulb. Darn, too bad the insulator got dropped but stuff happens. It would have been neat to be able to make a lamp from the items all found from the same trip. Typing this as I am watching the video so maybe you will find another insulator farther down the stream.
We haven't had much sun here for about a month too... mostly rain. Still, I managed to get out mudlarking yesterday, and Spring is only a few short months away. 🙂
Did you use a new piece of music in the background of this video? There was a piece I didn't recognize. It's a lovely river for wading. Too bad it wasn't more full of finds for you.
thanks for the nice day! I envy you going kayaking on that sweet little river! What kind of kayak do you have? For 20 years I kayaked on western US rivers and the Sea of Cortez off the Sonoran coast of Mexico. My boats finally gave up the ghost and I miss it.
Thanks Steven. I'm doing OK in general. Did crash a bit on editing, which means putting out a video I meant to keep in reserve for such crashes... only much sooner than expected. Oh well. Hope you're well too. 🙂

always super photography, your location is beautiful, my rivers are somewhat dry, but we do have one or two that are not, but because of venomous snakes would not go in them. I had one not long ago creeping up my stair, nasty viper, but I like snakes, it was more scared of me, it slithered away to our Baranco, which is Spanish for ditch, ours is meters high, but when the rain comes you can hear the water rushing by. And attracts mosquitos and toads.
HelloTom, Happy New Year and Thank you so much for posting another interesting video ! Jane from Wellingborough Northamptonshire x
Thanks Jane, Happy New Year to you too. I'm glad you still enjoy my videos. 🙂
Happy New Year Tom. Another wonderful and relaxing video. The scenery and sounds of the water 👌🥰 thank you for taking us along with you 😊
Thanks Deb, Happy New Year to you too. 🙂
Good to see you again Tom been awhile 👍👍👍
Thanks Charles. Hopefully won't be too long till the next upload, I'm aiming for every 2 weeks now. 🙂
Tom I think you have the balance of a cat!!! Love your video as always
We have not seen the sun in a month out here in eastern Ontario and it looks balmy in northern England. Happy winter!
We haven't had much sun here for about a month too... mostly rain. Still, I managed to get out mudlarking yesterday, and Spring is only a few short months away. 🙂
Looks like a great place to do some magnet fishing .
That is a beautiful bridge
Lovely walk. Thank you!
Did you use a new piece of music in the background of this video? There was a piece I didn't recognize.
It's a lovely river for wading. Too bad it wasn't more full of finds for you.
Yh out sir have a most calming and addictive voice. Was introduced to you by another mudlark.
Great video ! Such a beautiful day and walk ! Happy New Year to you both !
Thanks Kathy, Happy New Year to you too. 🙂

@@tom_burleigh your welcome 🙏
I would love to see Richard Hemery on your channel with you!
thanks for the nice day! I envy you going kayaking on that sweet little river! What kind of kayak do you have? For 20 years I kayaked on western US rivers and the Sea of Cortez off the Sonoran coast of Mexico. My boats finally gave up the ghost and I miss it.
Hi Tom how are you keeping..hope you are well. From Steven from South Elmsall/pontefract Castle..
Thanks Steven. I'm doing OK in general. Did crash a bit on editing, which means putting out a video I meant to keep in reserve for such crashes... only much sooner than expected. Oh well. Hope you're well too. 🙂
@@tom_burleighI got diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. They found it late.but I've had radiotherapy. And it asent gone enny were so it's been contained. With hormone injection. It is what it. And i can't do enny thing about it..I retired as well last year..just keep thinking positively. Take care 🙂❤.
Oh dear, that's a hard diagnosis to get hit with. I hope it's not too much of an impediment to doing most of the things you wanted to fill your retirement with. Glad you're thinking positively. 🙂
