This was not the most uncomfortable scene in the episode for me. That came later, with the scene where Sally buys a nice meal for Barry and also buys him a new video game controller, and then when he calls SHE apologizes to HIM, and he accepts her apology without saying sorry in return. That is when I truly felt bad for Sally. Almost anyone can snap and be emotionally abusive for a moment. But the responses of both parties in the aftermath really demonstrated that, yeah, this is an unhealthy relationship.
RIGHT! She's trying to make the environment as tolerable as possible. It made me worry for her. It amazes me how funny this show is yet, get brutally realistic. Bill Hader is killin it in this show. I never thought he could be this scary. Maybe one of my favorite TV performances thus far.
My boyfriend lost his temper a couple of times before, but within minutes he returns to me, holding me and crying that he's sorry. I never had to say or do anything, and I usually don't. lol I know him, and I know whenever he's scared, nervous or anxious, his default is getting angry. He rarely raises his voice to me in anger, but whenever he does, he catches himself. I am very lucky to have a partner like that.
This scene is a prime example of how incredibly well thought out this show is. I remember smiling and laughing when Barry first entered the scene and being completely shocked and on edge by the end of it
Whenever I see him I keep thinking “when is HE gonna apologize” or “when is HE gonna show Sally that he loves her.” It’s crazy to see how much he’s changed since last season, I love it but god I hate to see Sally back to her old habits again, like when she was with Sam. @@shadowthehedgehog7442 agreed. it's like Barry was in love with the idea of being loved/in love. in season 1 he had such a huge crush on Sally and his daydreams were really sweet. He's stupid, sloppy, selfish, and naive. Barry has somehow manipulated the audience with his wishes to improve and become a better person, but we see this and we snap out of it. The blocking in that scene is so good. I love that it's from Katie's point of view and then Barry walks in and immediately it's clear that he's just ruined the energy of this space. Also the reactions by the side characters, the writer running out (flight response) and Katie sitting there like “wtf?” but also her breathing to recover from what just happened. Very realistic.

I grew up in a house with domestic violence. The portrayal of that scene and the reaction afterwords were SOOO accurate. ‘Did he touch her? Did he hit her? Did he call her a slur or something? No? It took a long time for me to realize that destruction of property and yelling like that can be forms of domestic violence.
