oh wow this blew up, thank you all so much. This video came out of pure passion i have for the show so to see this take off is really epic. I wished i phrased things differently though. For anyone who misunderstood, perhaps I should’ve been more clear. I got that Fuches saving Barry’s son was his way of redeeming himself in the hopes that Barry would some what forgive him after everything he’s done to him. Both Barry and Fuches have been at odds with each other, trying to kill each other and I think ultimately at the end both of them was simply exhausted from fighting each other.
+ Yes I know Jim is Janice’s farther I forgot, the dude doesn’t seem old enough to be a dad okay 🤣

    • @yourwrong6861

I think both of them were redeemed. Fuches walks away with a clear conscious and Barry gets his wish that his son will be okay...and that is depicted by Barry being exonerated in the movie (as well as Janice's murder) and viewed as a hero when all is said and done. That ending was best case scenario for Barry and his family.
Fuches didnt save Barry's son out of "exhaustion", he did it because he ultimately loves Barry and knows Barry loves him. And Jim? He doesn't look old enough to be a father? Im not sure you have the correct "Jim" from the correct show. He 100% looks old enough to be a father, without question.
I think you are trying to change the reality to coincide with your video title...when it would be much easier to change your video title to one that reflects that both Fuches and Barry were redeemed in the end. The series started with us oddly rooting for a Hit Man and his handler...and in the end those two win.

Call me a pessimist but I think Fuches did not do it to apologize... I think he did it to prove to Barry that he could trust him, as a "kindred spirit". He puts it clearly to Noho Hank when he says they are both "heartless", something which Noho Hank ultimately disproves him through his peaceful death despite being riddled with bullets... While elsewhere on the scene, all the other goons are writhing in pain.
Being or feeling "Heartless"... Lacking a "Conscience"... Or some would say being a "psychopath", is ultimately the bond all the main characters share: Fuches admits it to Hank, although he previously made it comically clear through his negociation of siege-time bienséance with the love of his live and his step-daughter. Sally confesses it to her son as well, and still seems incapable of truly feeling his love in every scene afterwards. Cousineau makes it clear through his very last act, although it is hinted that seeing his son sucked into his "artistic fantasy" and repudiating him ultimately made him snap back into reality (oops there goes gravity).
What is left to wonder is this: Was Barry also a truly heartless individual, a true "psychopath"? I mean... He can get angry... He can get so angry he straight up murders anyone in his path regardless... It's up to interpretation.
I think ultimately, Barry and Fuches share the same belief system. A "higher power", a "personal story" (Fuches' movie time? More than just funny.), a way to "redeem yourself through action"... They both know they're "not going to the good place afterwards", but they still believe they can escape this destiny... Somehow.
I think ultimately, Fuches did what he did out of respect for Barry. For who he was, what he became, and what he did throughout. Respect, and Pride.
One must also note that Fuches was the only character that didn't "get" the mad egotistical "pursuit of the arts" ambition driving all the other main characters. Cousineau sacrifices his family for fame as an artist, Barry sacrifices other humans for fame as an artist and family, Sally sacrifices her son for fame as an artist, but Fuches? Fuches just wanted Power... The "Good Life".
As for Sally and Junior... Well, it's clear that by ignoring her son to focus on her success, she has fated him to fall victime to an illusion. A prison from which he might or might not be able to escape.
Not a lot of shows like this.

Gene wanted to be famous. It's poetic the way he responded to being set up over misunderstandings. He was given a part, so he played it. He gets his revenge, his fame, and even gets to live from prison to see it realized. It was the best move he could've made when Barry showed up. Ironically, the movie that gets made from the big mixup still gives John closure, too. I love the touch at the end of Sally declining the date and being way too obsessive about theater. It can be interpreted as she can't trust another man's touch again, or she realized too late that Barry really cared about her and her son all those years and she didn't appreciate it. I like to think it's the latter because of her character development in the hostage room with her kid

I think Noho Hanks final moment where his eyes go wide is him accepting what he did. He's literally looking up at a bullet riddled version of Christobal. Something he spared himself from having to see in real life. And now it's his final image. It's the universe forcing him to look at and accept what he did in his very last moment.

I honestly am not sure if John believes the movie truly. Sally did tell him the truth earlier on. And maybe he blocked it out sure. But I think he knows... But John never met that side of Barry. Barry was always loving and caring and kind to him. So he viewed his dad as a hero that faught in the war and treated him well... So in the end.. I wonder if his smile is because he is glad the world sees his dad now as he got to see him instead of a heartless hitman.

    • @mr.doctorcaptain1124
      @mr.doctorcaptain1124 Рік тому +58

      I disagree myself.
Sally told him that Barry murdered people. Thats it. They went on the run because they were wanted for murder. Then as an adult, John discovers that his father was framed for murder. And his mother clearly will not talk about it to any extent whatsoever, so what would he know beyond that?
I think he smiled because he believed the story. His father was always good to him, and his father was only a good man when John was around. Now the entire world believes Berry was a hero, why wouldn’t john? His mother doesn’t discuss it. For all John knows, she may not even fully know the truth.
I loved the ending. To me, Barry and John both deserved that ending, specifically because in his final moments Barry finally said it. “Call the police. I’m going to confess.” He finally got his redemption in his very final moments; then Gene steals it from him and pays the ultimate price for it. Incredible ending.

I found it interesting how the ending is very rooted in religion and the idea of forgiving sins. The characters who admit their true essences and seek forgiveness are spared and those who try to justify their actions are punished/killed.
Sally admits she killed someone and is a bad mother and is spared.
Hank does admit to having Cristobal killed but talks more about how much he loved him and had no choice. Not really an admission or full acceptance so he is killed.
Fuches admits he is a manipulative asshole with no heart and does the right thing by sparing Barry’s son. I think he started that fire fight to get Barry’s son out of there bc he though Hank would keep the kid and kill Barry if he walked away like he said he would. Anyway, he is spared.
Gene doesn’t admit to helping Barry cover up the Janice murder, keeps the hush money, barely apologies to his son for shooting him, and immediately reverts to his old self center narcism when the potential of movie star playing him in the movie comes up. He may say he loved Janice but never more than himself. His punishment is definitely unjust but it’s really his own doing.
Lastly, Barry uses God’s will to morally justify killing Gene and not turn himself in bc “God spared him at the shoot out.” By the time he finally chooses to turn himself in its after his punishment, Sally and John leaving. Gene killing him is actually salvation bc he gets to live on as a hero to the world.

Respectfully: I think you're missing something important about Fuches and Barry's final scene. I don't read it as Fuches hoping Barry won't think him useless. It's not him trying to appear brave. It's way simpler and more fundamental than that. To me, that final gesture of saving and delivering Barry's son to him unharmed and safe? It's an allegory for the entirety of their relationship to each other. And, as such, is a perfect final scene.
Fuches was a terrible father(figure) to Barry - a monstrous, gaslighting and abusive. He took an broken guy and broke him even more for his own profit. Barry, meanwhile, wants nothing more than to be a good father to John - to keep him safe, and shield him from the violence that ruined his and so many others' lives. When we see Fuches grab John... the show leads us to assume this is yet another act in their endless cycle of revenge and abuse. Everyone expects a showdown... Barry most of all.
And then it flips on us. We realize that it wasn't ever to harm John. It was to save him... and bring him back to his dad. He does for John what he never did for Barry. He kept him safe. After years of sending Barry into violence... he rescued John from it. I think that's really important.
In that final moment, that look they share, I think Fuches and Barry quietly realize the full scale of who they've been to each other... the warped, destructive cycle of love and cruelty and obsession and lies... Two bad men. Two failed fathers. Each of them there to save a little boy who could be anything. They don't say anything to each other. But they clearly understand. They're saying they're sorry. They're saying goodbye.
Fuches did the one thing he never did before. He was good to his son. He gives Barry one final look... and then he skitters back into the shadows forever.

I think there’s a lot to unpack with the end. My interpretation is that Barry gained redemption in the nick of time by finally taking responsibility. He still had to pay for everything he did, but ultimately his reward was for his son to be able to remember him well.
By taking responsibility he’s cutting ties with the notion that he needs to protect his new life, and his anchor to that new life was Gene. And the moment he does, that decision kills him, but, in death, gives him the lasting peace he needs.

Redemption how? By fabricating the truth? Gene went down for Janice's murder, and the film at the end shows how the world perceives Barry. His son seeing the lie as the truth ensures the cycle of violence will continue, especially after Sally told him who Barry really was which he must be choosing to forget. But at the end of the day, why are you trying to redeem Barry? Like honestly why?

@@storyfirstgamingyt If the takeaway from the story of "Beauty and the Beast" is limited to "girl gets kidnapped, then gets Stockholm syndrome," it is not a particularly useful story. However, if we interpret the meaning as "sometimes a thing has to be loved before it can be lovable," then it offers something more valuable to take away.
For me, the conclusion wasn't that the son would suddenly become violent. Rather, the redemption comes from finally accepting responsibility. Superficially, the film comments on how Hollywood alters details to cater to a broader audience, even if it undermines the truth. However, I believe there is a deeper message to extract from the story.
Gene committed a cold-blooded murder against Barry. In doing so, Gene sealed his own fate. Barry's redemption, which came through self-realization and embracing the weight of honesty, would have also been Gene's redemption. If Barry had survived, he could have shown his son that he had genuinely changed. Unfortunately, Gene's act of killing Barry means that Barry's son will have to wait for years before he can remember his father well, all the while likely hearing negative things about him from Sally. Gene, in turn, receives the punishment for his failure to change. As soon as he hears the name "Daniel Day Lewis" all of the work he did to become a better person goes right out the window.
Metaphorically, the film represents who Barry aspired to become, and he could have achieved that if he had accepted himself and made an effort to change. Eventually, he does undergo a transformation. As a result, his reward is to be remembered as the person he believed he could have been or wanted to be.

    • @storyfirstgamingyt

I understand that, but it's like you're writing a dissertation on why Walter white isn't such a bad guy. Barry is the bad guy. Real bad guys can be funny and charming, and often are, so much so that they get people on their side. When Hank asks Sally if she went to Barry when she needed help, that's both of them acknowledging the real Barry. Also, seeking redemption from God is like asking the Easter bunny for an apology. Barry becomes delusional once he gets what he wants, as it's the only way for him to think of himself as a good person, which to me if you have to that, you just aren't.

He knew what he had to take responsibility and was going to do so, but gene being the dummy in the room not knowing that Barry was going clear his name and went and took Barry’s life in the most hilarious way ever in a TV show. Barry getting buried with full military honors, his son and and society seeing him as a hero and a good person and inspiring others to be better then him is everything Barry wanted more then anything in the world. It’s incredibly hilarious, dark, and gives the main character his big win in the end despite it being in his death. It fits the tone of the show. Loved it

But we knew he had an immense fear of hell and punishment and in the end he willingly sat down and wanted to turn himself in for the sake of his teacher he had tormented. Barry constantly is trying to band aid himself to redemption. And then ripping them off and going back to killing.
Finding peace takes work. And Barry was constantly trying to run from his problems instead of taking responsibility. Barry only realizing this before his death is beautifully tragic.

I think Noho Hank's death was sort of important to parallel Barry's, just because they were two sides of the same coin, except the difference is when cornered, and push came to shove, and they had both been faced with the repercussions of their actions, Barry had a final moment of redemption, telling him to call the cops, showing interest in taking responsibility, whereas Noho Hank refused to take responsibility to the bitter end, and both being "evil" people, that had hurt too many people, they met the same ending, but will ultimately be remembered in very different ways, or in the case of Noho Hank, maybe not at all. Gene stealing Barry's chance at redemption by killing him in anger also ironically sealed a legacy of sorts for Barry, as we can't control who tells our story after we're gone... we live full lives but only those that witness our true selves lashing out at existence ever really know us or what we are capable of, and everyone else just has this idea of who you were, and the image will change depending on the person viewing it.

I just found out about "Barry" last month as well and binged it right up until Season 4-7, which gave me blueballs so bad because I didn't know there was another week to go; it felt like a month in my perspective at the time. The show had a palpable Coen Brothers element at times, specifically, "Burn After Reading" what with all of the death and drama many times being caused by the confusion that the characters act upon which occasionally worsened situations and/or got people killed who were not expecting to end up in such dire straits, not for the idiocy of others. It was great and I'm still waiting for the last 2 episodes to sink in a bit more. Having said that, your review of the finale has put a different coat of paint on some things. No one really gets what they want. Some characters get off better than some, but their was no clear winner from all the insanity that has taken place.
It's fitting because the show draws a real emphasis on every level of theatrics.
Rather it is in a world of stage, telivision, movies, or the production side of things. It always has some form of media story going on in the plot.
But in the end it comes right back to the basics.

@@matvangogh lol it's not tit for that, the whole show is about how redemption is more than a moments decision it's something you follow through and feel every day. Barry didn't change. cousinea didn't change, noho didn't change, that's why it's a dark comedy tragedy my guy

Fuches actually kind of redeems himself in the end. He gives up on revenge for the sake of Barry’s son.
A final confrontation between Hank and Barry would have been great, but I wouldn’t change a thing about this episode.
