‘The Pitt’ Series Premiere: ‘ER’ Is (Kind of) Back! | Prestige TV
Joanna Robinson and Rob Mahoney work the overnight shift at the emergency room to recap the two-episode premiere of ‘The Pitt,’ the Max original series from much of the creative team behind ‘ER.’ They discuss it as a spiritual successor to the popular ’90s drama, their relationship with the medical procedural genre, and how its high-concept premise is executed (1:04). Along the way, they talk through their favorite and least favorite characters so far (23:45). Later, they consider whether the barrier to entry is too high for the show to widely catch on (35:53).

Never liked any medical drama as they all just felt more like the drama part and none of the medical part. So down for this series.

BB sarcasm is great. The son n lawyer are great. But can we limit the wife n daughter scenes pls. The daughter now wants football boy to strip for the retirement home folks. Taylor tends to drift into a lot of filler stuff on his shows, stick to the Landman stuff.

Just wondering, last season, there were pictures on the wall of the games they had played. This season, there was a game pictured that we haven't seen the contestants play yet? Is this a foreshadowing of a game we will see coming up?

As a 30 year old, who had only heard of ER in passing and considering it a soap opera. ER was outstanding. Granted, I'm a big fan of procedurals (SVU-12 season, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, House, NCIS). The Pitt gave me the same feeling. A lived in world, which gives you a look at how the characters deal with their daily lives.

things i love about this podcast: an unexpected survivor plug by joanna plus a stephen fishbach namedrop (i love survivor, would love to hear more thoughts!!), and rob dropping asian cinema/tv recommendations (the devil's plan, culinary class wars... i've noticed rob tends to watch and talk about asian films/tv more than other cohosts on both the prestige tv and the big pic podcasts, and i appreciate that!) squid game s2 turned out way better than i expected. i agree that the hyun-ju/young-mi relationship was the most emotional for me! but front man/gi-hun is the most interesting (vibes, for sure)
