@@taylorbernier7966 Yeah remember "acting is truth," "use it," "you don't have to know what child abuse is like, you just have to know what it's like to hurt someone," he really hurt someone and he's using it...duh? I mean I wouldn't have even wondered if it wasn't brought up 15 times as what acting is, and then it kinda went nowhere, for Barry, if not Bill Hader? Here's what it might be:
"Can you give me ANYTHING?"--Sally to Barry, in that scene that won the Emmy, after he murders his old marine buddy, with the agent in the audience.
The biggest literary agent in the world had requested my novel--the real "Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs" from "South Park." The book that makes you puke, that's inexplicably REALLY good. Bill Hader was there, in the "South Park" writer's room.
That was a parody of a real book--that's why that episode made no sense, and people still ask Google if it's real, somehow. I had mailed it to the voice of Towelie. "Guys, this is MY LIFE. I don't want to sue you. It's the coolest thing in the world you did a 'South Park' about my book. Salman Rushdie's agent requested it because this literary genius Stanford neuroscientist basically said 'I think it's like the best thing I've ever read?' like an idiot, like the episode. You guys are actually talented, these people are not, it means EVERYTHING TO ME. I love you. Can you give me ANYTHING?"
Cold. Under orders, like the Macbeth scene from Season 1--"South Park" guys didn't want to get sued or then, have it be known they were dicks like that. Unfortunately there's a bunch of evidence they left behind...

When you listen to all these interviews. You realize why this show was a masterpiece. Hader was not the typical entitled director that forced the vision when it did not work. He listened to his people and their meetings talking about the show and how people recall characters and seasons . He had a vested interest in making the show memorable from the perspective of the viewers and those who worked with him felt the same because he listened to them.

I think we can thank streaming services for pouring money into people's pockets to make content, it opened us up to a fresh new wave of creators not held down by the chains of nepotism.
When Hollywood tried to keep up with the content overload they were forced to take the same strategy, and thus fresh voices became mainstream.

When you do such a great job of casting, half of your work as a director is already done. Great actors who understand their characters and it is coming from a creative place, not an ego centric place will always be able to help make course corrections that get the show to the right place.
Bill often talks about how running your own sketches at SNL puts you in a director's role. Your working with all of the various departments and your ensemble cast, and there's a necessary efficiency that comes from allowing everyone to do their jobs. Taking that experience and applying it to projects that have the benefit of more time and budget really works well.

People get tripped up because the characters don't change or do the hard things necessary to grow as a person. The ending feels deflated because no one learns their lesson and it's all bleak, but that's the whole idea.

His transformation to a pater familias gangster from Barry father figure and then instantly snap back to tender father figure when he heard Barry had a son was.... the way you could see the tenderness fill his eyes, even if nothing really changed... @@RED01SEA I disagree entirely, but you are welcome to your opinion.
To me, the comedy never stopped. Yes it definitely got more serious as it went, but as that happened, the comedy started to really focus on wild scenarios that were inherently funny in set up.
The character moments were all, mostly, taken seriously. Especially towards the end. Still it felt very clear to me that this is what made the scenarios as funny as they were. If it was full parody with no seriousness, it would land on a similar level to Scary Movie, or any other number of over the top parodies.
Barry feels like a parody of life, without the characters realizing how weird their situations are and so taking everything very seriously. I like that and see the comedy all the way through.
It definitely ends on a completely serious note though. No arguments there lol.
I find that refreshing though. Like on Rick and Morty. A very funny show, but takes the time to set up important stuff the characters all take very seriously. Different but similar.

The whole absurdity of the interwoven plots, the pathos, the never knowing how an episode was going to turn out or who was going to die next was a sureal experience. To Bill Hader, and the entire cast and crew of Barry,
Thank you for making this masterpiece of the heart and mind, this evolution of light and dakness, this brilliantly brutal, hysterical, dark, dramatic beautiful journey. I haven't enjoyed, and been so engrossed in a tv series, as much as I have with Barry, in such a long time.
Saying goodbye to these characters might seem like a mundane, trivial thing, but it was really hard to part from the journey you let us travel with them, and to let go of the relationship you gave us with them, as well.
Every aspect of this series was seamless artistry, and an immersive pleasure of myriad emotions. The connection you crafted is staggering, and I'm so grateful for this creation. Every accolade you recieved is truly earned, and a thousand times deserved. But I sincerely only wish there were more of it to come.
It might seem strange to gush like this over a "tv show", but I can't even call it that. There are a million tv shows. This was something special, something uplifting, yet devastating. hopefiul, yet, bleak, dark and violent, yet beautiful and evolutionary. Something that fully encompsases the entirety of the human condition. Something that reaches into the soul and the psyche, and roots itself there.
From om one writer, one dreamer, to another, you have my utmost respect, admiration, and gratitude.
Thank you all. I look forward to seeing your future endeavors come to fruition.
    xx Gina-Marie Iezzi

17:55… Can you imagine how different the show would have been if Hank died on the very FIRST episode?!? It would have been a modern day tragedy if we weren’t graced with 4 full seasons of Anthony Carrigan absolutely annihilating every scene he’s in as Hank. He certainly wouldn’t have gone to be one of the best aspect of the show, Barry. Anthony also seems like such a genuine sweetheart behind the scenes well. Cheers!

I found this season a little off compared to the other seasons, i didnt fully comprehend the end of season 3 and the time jump, it felt very unlikely that he would escape and live for 10 years, also it felt so uncomfortable seeing him with his son, however it was a good season, it had many interresting scenes, i felt may be if the episodes were longer it would've been more fair to the story, it was so well shot that 30 min werent enough

I completely agree. I initially thought the time jump to Barry having a son was a hallucination he was having, like a drawn out version of the hallucinations he experienced in prison.
When I realised the time jump wasn't in his head I was pretty disappointed, but I'm hoping it'll feel less jarring after rewatching the whole series. It's really the only criticism I have of the show. Apart from the time jump Barry is just perfect television :)
