- The rotary switch that controls the heating element on our toaster oven burned out. On the switch was the brand name HUALILAI and a part number -- FZ31-9. Luckily, I was able to find a replacement part on the Chinese TaoBao website. Total cost of replacement was not even $6.

Thank you for demonstrating in your video how to remove the pin. It was quite helpful. I noticed that my original pin was on the opposite side of the switch compared to the new one. My coffee machine is now partially operating and even rotating differently. Although it's not functioning fully, it's sufficient to make espresso.
Glad the video helped in your repair. It's kind of frustrating how manufacturers make things so hard to fix these days. Here's to drinking espresso for a long time! 🙂
Thanks for the video, Worked out great although the problem was just my switch shaft was stuck. Managed to fix it without replacing
Glad to hear it was a simple fix. Simple is always best! 😃
Well done!
Thanks! 😁

We need a tutorial on how you ordered the part from china. That in itself in a useful diy skill i need to learn.
That's a great video idea. I'll see what I can come up with. Do you have any particular category of part you'd like a focus on?
@@makeshiftengineer no, cant think of a specific, but i have run into items that i could not find replacement parts anywhere. Especially for the. No name chinese stuff.
I like your videos. My GE toaster oven started making a strong medicine smell two days ago, then the top burners got really red hot and stayed on a long time instead of kicking off and on. On day 2 I tried to bake frozen bisquits like always and setting was for 17 minutes. After 9 minutes they were burnt coal black on top but bottom was not browned at all so I turned them over and watched it for the other few minutes and it browned good within 3 minutes. I have it apart but two of those funny split screws wil not come loose. What do I do to take it the rest of the way apart? Any ideas appreciated.
Sorry for the delayed reply. Glad you like the videos! Stuck old screws really are a pain to get out. Have you tried something like WD40 to loose them up?
Need a bi metal thermostat for Toshiba toaster oven, what is the part website
I'd suggest Googling the part number. There might be someone close by you who's selling it on eBay or something similar.
Thanks for this video - I have a different toaster oven that needs one of these same switches, but my question is how did you remove that center shaft (you call "a turn thing in the middle" at 2:37) and how difficult was it? Thanks
I pulled it out with a pair of pliers. It was a snug fit but it came out with some wiggling. Hope this helps. Good luck with your repair!
@@makeshiftengineer Thank you, that helps a lot. I was a bit hesitant but with your info, I'll be able to get it done this weekend
@@drew73186 , hope your repair goes well. Let me know how it goes! Cheers!
Did the “turn thing” came out easily? How does the hole look like after that? Perfectly circle or like a half cane? Thanks!
The rotating switch came out fairly easily. There were two screws attaching it to the oven. The hole was a full circle. You can see it in the video at 0:09. Hope that helps. Cheers!
How did you get the pin in the middle out
I used a pair of pliers and gave a hard pull on it. It came out fairly easily.
I need the same switch but I cant figure out how to order. I cant read chinese and I live in U.S.A...
Ebay has some for sale. If you figure in shipping, it'd probably be about the same cost as ordering from China. Cheers. www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-NEW-HUALILAI-FZ31-9-16A-250V-T125-55-Rotary-Switch-5-pins-V6439-CH-/293198353666
If can only help me with the wiring mine shaft totally broken
If it's just the shaft that's broken, can you replace just the shaft? If not, then try to get a replacement part that is the same as the broken one. Before you take it off, label the wires and where they go on the switch. It'll help you put them back in the correct position. Hope that helps.
