Ya mine is about 8 years old too and it look like it has been through a war. Almost black inside as it has been used so much. They are great units and I would buy another one in a second when it breaks, but so far just bad connections and a bad fan motor.

Anyway, it's still working, knock on wood.🙂 But we are finding that it does not toast bread so well lately. After watching you video I immediately checked our 4 toasting elements carefully (set on toast) and they are all working, but three seem to get work better than the forth. Three get fairly evenly red all the way across, and the upper rear element gets very red at the ends but hardly at all in the middle of the element. I still don't think that explains the poor toasting performance, because it's not toasting well on either top or bottom of the slices. I can set Toast on 5 and I have to toast the bread twice to achieve what I normally could get from a 3 setting with a single toast. Any suggestions what I should so?
Nice job well done. I would like to comment on the single sided printed circuit board with no plated through holes. It's hard to believe at this price point they didn't use a FR4 PCB two sided board with plated through holes. That, I think, would eliminate the problems you're seeing here.
@@12voltvids Lead really is no joke, but since no factory handled leaded solder well, it got banned. Cause it's cheaper than fitting the factories with fume extractors. And it had the positive benefit of adding another layer of planned obsolescence. They did plan this very well, they knew lead free solder fails.
@@kyoudaiken thank the good old European Union for that they're the ones that baned it. Has nothing to do with fume extractors at the factory because they have that. The reason lead got banned had nothing to do with manufacturing and everything to do with what happens when the product reaches the end of its life. Two things happen with electronics at the end of their life either they're burned in a smelter or they go into a landfill. At the landfill groundwater gets contaminated with lead from the solder. this isn't so much of a problem when they put it into a smelter to separate all the metals because they have exhaust gas containment, the real problem is stuff that went to landfills.

I've done many stereos on my channel if you look back far enough or I've done just that resoldered drive transistors output transistors preamp modules. If I ever get time, that's the tough part is finding time I was going to go and make some play list on my UA-cam channel where I would put all the VCRs and a VCR playlist all the cameras in a camera playlist audio and an audio playlist etc. That's if I ever find the time, I never have time I'm always too busy. I'm either fixing crap or making videos are doing archiving work I'm working at my day job.
I repaired an oven from IKEA. The fault was the temperature fuse. It worked for some second, sometimes minutes then it broke all power even to the clock circuit. A new fuse was very expensive about $70 but a new oven costs about $700 so the owner decided it was worth it.
Excellent. These are probably the best counter top oven ever made. I bought one for my wife probably 10 years ago and that thing gets used every day without fail. The 3 most used appliances I think that we have is this oven, my old 1989 Panasonic madam grill microwave which is used exclusively as a oven not microwave, and the inatantpot duo with the air fryer lid. That gets used multiple times a week both for air frying and the pressure cooker. Corn on the cob cooked perfectly in 4 minutes.
just finished repairing one of the air fryer smart oven units. one of the wires connecting to one of the bottom heating elements had caught on fire i think and came apart. replaced the wire and it works good as new.
Hi, I have this oven. My issue is one top element (the back top one) does not heat, the other top (front) one does heat. However to grill and toast both top elements need to heat. This is an element problem not a control panel issue? If so, any ideas how to replace this element? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Check the connections where the elements connect to the board. If they are good then the element could be toast. Sorry couldn't resist.. speaking of resist you can check the resistance of the elements.

@@12voltvids I have had this oven for alike 16 years or more now, this the second one I got , the first one was a bit different, the display only lit up blue and did ot change orabge when heating like this one on the first unit the spring for the door broke I think cause the door wuld not spring shut and we had to prop cans in front of it, then the light on the display failed but the oven still worked, this newer odel that has the display that changes color will heat sometimes but other times it will not heat, I unplug it for a little while and then plug it back in and it works, I just did the reflow but now i need to go out and finf one those handy long ass screwdirves you got there, I was in a hurry to try and fix it but boy you weren't kidding , my hands are bloody and I donltn hve huge sausage finger liek you I have the hands of a 14yo girl LOL I think I may have bent the fan blades trying to ge the screws out and in with my short screwdriver too so now it's extra noisy whoever designed this thing should be shot.the control panel screws on mine are not even magnatized and I don't have a magnetizer either, thank god I has some of the blue tack stuff for posters, Ijust rollled a tiny ball 1/4 the size of a grain or uncooke drice and put it int he scre head I dont even know how I got the control panel screws out at all and have no idew how I am going to ge them back in. I got the first one in and then the second one fell and went inside the slit on the back on the control board where the ribbon cable for it comes out so I had to remove the first control panel screw again and start over, this time I put some tape ove the hole on the contorl panel where the ribbon cable comes out so if I drop a scre It wont get stuck in there agann, it wold not even shake out I can see why it's more to fx this thing than a TV not fun but hopefully it fixed it
@@andreamitchell4758 There is a procedure to open it up. I did another one that had the thermal fuse popped and had to tear it completely apart. Alot of work but well worth it as this is a great oven and I laugh at those that only use it as a toaster. To magnetize a screwdriver just find a small magnet. And rub the screwdriver over it a few times.
@@12voltvids yeah I use it like 3 times a day usually I use it for everything I want the newer model with air fry or the new joule model but they are just too big for my counter It is a great oven and this model is a true staple it has been available for sale for like 20 years but with some minor revisions There is another slight revision that has a light and a slow cook option so if this fix does not work and it ends up being a triac I might get that one and try to repair this one another time for sale or as a gift

Here in the UK it's actually cheaper to throw a microwave oven out when it goes wrong or when somebody wants a different colour, than it is to fix it which is a bit of a waste, I have found bluetooth sound bars, amplifiers and Tv's in a dumpster/skip that mainly still work.
In Germany I got such an oven with all the same functionality plus a 900W microwave for 69 EUR at Lidl when they have it again... And they also last and last and last. The only thing that died was the incandescent bulb. I need to take the whole thing apart to change it. I should do that soon. You cannot change it from the inside, which is ... weird. They really try hard to make you just buy a new unit. Instead, I just keep using it without light, cause I am lazy LMAO.

I bought a pair of kevlar gloves for working on appliances. It's saved me from cuts and scrapped knuckles. The ones I got were from Amazon: SKFGFNVB/S Dexterity Impact-Resistant Blended Composite Filament Fiber/Kevlar Cut-Resistant String-Knit Glove.
These type of things are deadly to your hands to work on, and deep cuts can become infected. A lot more of them must be scrapped than are repaired, yet as you have said you can make more money on them than trying to fix complicated Hi-Fi gear. Where there's muck, there's money.

I work as a partnership with a local guy who is out trying to repair white goods, at the end of the day he drops off any small appliances for me to have a look at, most have only bad joints to resolder.
Well, although those small ovens might be fine for some purposes, a pizza needs a stone plate and ~400°C. Just like my wood-fired clay oven in the garden.. ;)
No it doesn't. I have a friend that has one, wood fire and his pizzas are NO BETTER than the ones I make in this. I have a stone for mine, and it gets to 500F. Will cook a pizza in about 8 minutes and it is absolutely perfect. I made myself one today for lunch. The stone I put in it is a 1" thick piece of lava and it takes about 1 hour to preheat before I cook on it but it is worth the wait.
I can replicate the results of a pizza oven with a regular gas oven and a large cast iron pan. Just preheat to 500° with the cast iron pan in the oven, then remove it, spritz it with a bit of avocado oil, lay the crust down, set it on a burner on medium to keep hot, assemble the ingredients and return to the 500° oven for a couple of minutes. Finish under the broiler for a minute or two. You get leopard spotting and everything.

@@hermannschaefer4777 my friend with the wood fired oven does it in 2 minutes but his is 800'. I cook at 500 and go for 7 to 8 min. Perfect. Exactly like his fancy wood burner. I also sometimes do them in my gas bbq with the lava stone. It gets up to over 800' and is done in 2 minutes. The electric however is more than good enough and i don't have to go out in the wind and rain.
@@12voltvids They do fail but only with a manufacturing defect. I had a small cheap toaster oven here to inspect if it can be revived. The filament in the heating element was bent in the factory, two touching. The hotspot burned out the resistive wire. Only happens on really cheap devices I guess.
idk why manufacturers find it necessary to add electronics to something made to get very hot. I would rather have knobs and switches. I'm not even that old and i can see that mixing electronics and heat together is a bad idea, especially if it isn't required.
Well it's a smart oven and it is a great unit. I have one. Mechanical controls can not do precice temperature control like electronic controls can. For things like dishwashers and washing machines i couldn't agree more. Mechanical timers.
It's probably because the TV's are getting bigger, better and cheaper all the time. When they break it's an excuse to get another one. People are upgrading when they haven't broken yet.
@@kyoudaiken a TV is just a monitor anyway with the addition of a tuner. Some of us actually still watch over the air programming. In fact most of my programming is watched off air, because I don't subscribe to Netflix or Amazon or any of those other services that you have to pay extra money for.
@@12voltvids The reason why I stopped watching conventional TV was cause I learned that I had to pay 20 EUR more per month for cable TV. The funny thing is I get internet via cable TV (DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 hybrid with 1000/50 MBit/s) and the TV signal is right there. But when Vodafone bought up Liberty Global which owned UnityMedia in Germany, they started to get stricter and gave me a friendly call that I should disconnect my TV (they sense it via the return channel) or I need to pay 20 EUR for the cable service soon. I thought it was included in my rent which is general practice here in Germany or in my city but my renter didn't do that. So I decided to rid my TV. I just watch YT since this happened. I also am not subscribed to any streaming service as I could foresee that they will fragment like crazy. Now they're dying again. LMAO. YT is more than enough for me. The reason why I don't like modern "smart" TV sets is simply that the hardware and software is so proprietary, you cannot extend its lifespan. If the brand decides to stop supporting your set, it's basically eWaste and you have to get an old Laptop or a cheap PC for the "smart" features anyway. So I have my bedroom PC and a dumb 47 Inch HDR1000 monitor running at 13% brightness level with HDR off to enjoy this thing for decades to come. Only thing that could kill is is when the bond of the ribbons to the glass substrate loosen and vertical lines appear. I can repair the PSU myself, even if I have to cut a hole into the case cause I can't get the same form factor capacitors. It's 4K as well. Some Philips Momentum jobby. The colors are amazing, almost 100% DCI-P3. It's not OLED, it's a VA panel.

@@jssamp4442 solder has flux in it. That's what rosin core is. Good solid connection that won't break again, unlike the dainty shit job they did at the factory.
@12voltvids That's my point. The rosin flux in your solder removes the oxidation. You don't need to "get them hot enough to burn off old oxidation". In fact, more heat or higher temperature contributes to oxidation once the flux is burned off.

Microwaves sure, they are cheap but these little ovens are still pretty pricey 300 to 500 so people will drop 100 without batting an eye.

Never had to replace one. Its usually connections on the relay board that go bad.

SMPS? No switch mode in there. Has a few triacs to cycle the heaters on and off but the power supply on this is just a small transformer

Just preheat to 500° with the cast iron pan in the oven, then remove it, spritz it with a bit of avocado oil, lay the crust down, set it on a burner on medium to keep hot, assemble the ingredients and return to the 500° oven for a couple of minutes. Finish under the broiler for a minute or two.
You get leopard spotting and everything.

@@hermannschaefer4777 my friend with the wood fired oven does it in 2 minutes but his is 800'. I cook at 500 and go for 7 to 8 min. Perfect. Exactly like his fancy wood burner. I also sometimes do them in my gas bbq with the lava stone. It gets up to over 800' and is done in 2 minutes. The electric however is more than good enough and i don't have to go out in the wind and rain.
I would assume the element burned out. I guess maybe not.

@@12voltvids They do fail but only with a manufacturing defect. I had a small cheap toaster oven here to inspect if it can be revived. The filament in the heating element was bent in the factory, two touching. The hotspot burned out the resistive wire. Only happens on really cheap devices I guess.
You should've tried cooking something as another test.

idk why manufacturers find it necessary to add electronics to something made to get very hot.
I would rather have knobs and switches.
I'm not even that old and i can see that mixing electronics and heat together is a bad idea, especially if it isn't required.
Well it's a smart oven and it is a great unit. I have one. Mechanical controls can not do precice temperature control like electronic controls can. For things like dishwashers and washing machines i couldn't agree more. Mechanical timers.

It's probably because the TV's are getting bigger, better and cheaper all the time. When they break it's an excuse to get another one. People are upgrading when they haven't broken yet.
Also streaming services like netflix obsolete them. Next big shut down comes March 31 / 23.

@@kyoudaiken a TV is just a monitor anyway with the addition of a tuner. Some of us actually still watch over the air programming. In fact most of my programming is watched off air, because I don't subscribe to Netflix or Amazon or any of those other services that you have to pay extra money for.
@@12voltvids The reason why I stopped watching conventional TV was cause I learned that I had to pay 20 EUR more per month for cable TV. The funny thing is I get internet via cable TV (DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 hybrid with 1000/50 MBit/s) and the TV signal is right there. But when Vodafone bought up Liberty Global which owned UnityMedia in Germany, they started to get stricter and gave me a friendly call that I should disconnect my TV (they sense it via the return channel) or I need to pay 20 EUR for the cable service soon. I thought it was included in my rent which is general practice here in Germany or in my city but my renter didn't do that. So I decided to rid my TV. I just watch YT since this happened. I also am not subscribed to any streaming service as I could foresee that they will fragment like crazy. Now they're dying again. LMAO. YT is more than enough for me. The reason why I don't like modern "smart" TV sets is simply that the hardware and software is so proprietary, you cannot extend its lifespan. If the brand decides to stop supporting your set, it's basically eWaste and you have to get an old Laptop or a cheap PC for the "smart" features anyway. So I have my bedroom PC and a dumb 47 Inch HDR1000 monitor running at 13% brightness level with HDR off to enjoy this thing for decades to come. Only thing that could kill is is when the bond of the ribbons to the glass substrate loosen and vertical lines appear. I can repair the PSU myself, even if I have to cut a hole into the case cause I can't get the same form factor capacitors. It's 4K as well. Some Philips Momentum jobby. The colors are amazing, almost 100% DCI-P3. It's not OLED, it's a VA panel.

Those are some ugly looking solder blobs. You know, the quality of the joint doesn't relate to the mass of the solder. Other than that, nice fix.
Got to get them hot enough to burn off old oxidation and get a good bond. They look fine nice and shiny.
@@12voltvids Flux is widely used to remove oxidation. But as long as it works... that's what is important.
@@12voltvids You weren't kidding about being a pain putting it back together. I noticed as I was finishing that I missed one of the tabs that slots into the front frame. The one closest to the control panel. I'll do it again tomorrow.
@@jssamp4442 solder has flux in it. That's what rosin core is. Good solid connection that won't break again, unlike the dainty shit job they did at the factory.
@12voltvids That's my point. The rosin flux in your solder removes the oxidation. You don't need to "get them hot enough to burn off old oxidation". In fact, more heat or higher temperature contributes to oxidation once the flux is burned off.
