And remember... there will always be that one dog walker threatening to call the police even though it's legal lol
You took an XJ6 greenlaning... soon as I heard you say that I was like yup, that's something Spicy would do 😂😂
Spot on with this video! Glad you also talked about the whole safety thing. One thing I would add is if you are going solo, just make sure somebody knows where you plan to ride, so if you don't come home they can raise the alarm and have an idea of where to start looking.
Completely disregard what spicy said as I’m gearing up and heading down the local green lane on a cbr600rr, LIGHT SPEED CAPTAIN! Two seconds later screaming for help 🤣
Move to British Columbia we have 550,00 km of dirt roads available for dirt bikes. Chances of running into cops is near zero.
Have always found the horse riders to be the most polite and friendly. It is the ramblers that always seem to be the most grumpy! :D Def good advice to ride with others, although like you, I do sometimes like to ride solo.
Nice video, glad you talked about responsible use, stopping for horses etc. There are far too many videos of people hooning along past walkers dogs and more, we have a shared use and should ride with respect to others even if they don't do the same, until we do TRO's will continue to be implemented and usage restricted. remember, you might feel safe riding along at 30mph, but to a walker or dog you are a 200plus kg missile flying close by, they don't feel like you are in control even if you as the rider do. they are unlikely to feel safe unless you slow down. What is it my great aunty used to say, " polite never cost n'owt" 🙂 ride free
i take a photo of the sign before i start the lane just in case i get that rambler that think they own the trails.
That's a good idea if it's a route you get a lot of backlash on. 👍
Fantastic and helpful advice for a newbie. Thank you.
Brilliant mate....learnt some great basics there that I suspect some ‘experienced’ riders should also take note of...just to be clear 😉👍🏼
Loads of great tips 😉
if your buddy crashes down a valley, park your bike, and find high ground for a signal. W3W is great. Highly recommend. You can even drop a route using W3W along with a check-in schedule with someone you can trust with it, if you fail a check-in s/he can get help to you and with your route schedule find you pretty damn quick - though this does require that you stick to your planned route.
Green lanes near me are so dangerous we have people who leave screws and stuff like that on them to stop people
One of the locals where I used to live many years ago strung a line of barbed wire across the track at head height... and yes, some poor sod did run into it. Thankfully not killed, but he did get injured, and the person who did it was prosecuted.
Brilliant vlog for new riders Spicy.....and also a good reminder of some points to the more seasoned users 👍
One point I picked up on if I may......you said “it’s not a racetrack, it’s footpaths we can ride on”.....as I’m sure you’re aware, BYWAYS/BOATS are legal roads some people choose to walk on......we just don’t complain about it 😉
Haha this is true but try telling the ramblers that 😝
Tbf you’re average ‘Walker’ is just as accommodating as yer legal trail rider....it seems to be the ‘Ramblers Association’ subscriber is just as much a pain in the arse to us as anyone riding/driving ‘off piste’ as we are to them....I disagree with both 😡
On a personal note....in all the years I’ve been laning I find our equestrian friends the most accommodating, never once had an issue with any of them....and if you do like you say....stop, switch off....you’ll always get a sincere thank you 👍
Who in there right mind would want to potentially scare a horse anyway?????
Once again, great video fella, you covered everything......well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Spot on for this video pal, helped me right out 👌
Glad it helped
Great video. Cheers buddy. I'm in Havant so funny watching you cruising around. I've got a big GSA and doing the BMW off road course in a month. Hoping to get out and do some easy trails around here later in the summer. I guess I'll see some of your routes on the app!
Any FB pages you know of to link to other local riders?
Thanks again 🤙🏻
Thin wires are often stretched across too can kill you if you dont see them so be careful
bought my HondaCRF250 Rally for greenlaning and its perfect for it. Stupidly easy to ride on and offroad but enough range and a nice screen for motorway miles as there are no green-lanes near me
Do you use factory tires on the motorway? If not what tires are you running? Thx
Nice vid mate, don’t think I’ll be talking my 950 just yet though ☺️😂
hope you and reeno are having a good day mate
The Trail Riders Fellowship (trf.org.uk) is also a great resource for greenlaners. Also, a good place to find a group near you who can take you out and teach you a thing or two.Oh the byway map website just has a button top left that says Byway map. Nothing else happens. Do you need Java or something?
'What3Words' and the associated App can be used as to provide co-ordinates for letting the emergency services (most services run systems that can understand this) know where you are. Usefully it's compatible with Google and Apple Maps and gives a 3m x 3m position which say a postcode can't really - especially on a green lane!.
For those of you who prefer to use a map grid reference, Apps are available to give this to 6 and 10 figure accuracy for the UK and Ireland should you wish.
Good video btw.
Great extra info thanks! 🙂
So I just found out there are no Byways in Scotland, only England. Is that right? What are the laws in Scotland for going off road? Good video BTW Thanks Dude!
Well said Spicy. Just grin and bare it and move on whilst being polite.
But people with horses do piss me off.
“Ooh look at me riding my 6ft high animal, that is very nervous and skittish around loud noises, on a busy road.”
Ride your horse in a field. Ride your horse on a byway or a canal path.
Don’t ride your horse down a 40mph plus road and then get annoyed with me because your horse doesn’t like it 🤨
And it goes for us too! Don’t redline your bike with a full sports exhaust outside someone’s house every day and then get annoyed when they tell you to shut up.
People in general need to be a bit more courteous of each other.
For around £100 you can buy an SOS beacon from a hiking shop, that you can put in your bag. If you injure yourself, just push the button and help will be notified and provided with the location of the beacon. I think it’s a one time use only though.
Grey area, Don't ya mean, green area?? Heh heh
Tesco Man returns
damn spicy, did you not see the flash of lightning? i had to watch that intro twice just to make sure i saw what it was
Not lightning, it is a problem with the drift 4k.
I haven't been greenlaning since the early 90's. I am glad it is still a 'thing'.
I have driven up a river that is a BOAT.
i just bought a ktm 640 from the island! very similar to the drz
I have ridden a 640, never felt vibrations like it on a bike but it's defo a good one!
@@spicy110 should be heaps of fun! especially once the weather is good
My pals and I used to take our Yamaha SR125 and Herald 125 on crazy green lanes! Any bike can do it aha :)
Yer as I say 125cc and small bikes are better but there are places where I tried to go and It was impossible, I have even seen videos of people on 400cc dirt bikes with knobbys struggle.
A small correction, I believe you can Greenlane on greenlanes that ARENT ROADS on pitbikes and non road legal bikes but if you try it on a greenlane that is technically a road you are breaking the law
What's the best way to contact yourself regarding this video please? I have some information that might be useful
Here in the comments if it's info that helps all.
I'm the rep for All Terrain UK, a green laning organisation that promotes responsible and sustainable green laning through education.. the byways map link that you shared is badly outdated and does not show what lanes are closed, voluntary restrictions (clubs like ATUK, GLASS etc have advised to avoid).. the best way to check the lanes local is by using the council mapping or join a group like GLASS or ATUK or TRF which gives you access to trail wise or smart trail, this then shows you with user evidence which lanes are legal or closed temporarily or permanently.. using a lane that is closed might end up with a section 59 on your license
Rule number 1 of greenlaning. ENJOY IT
Well I doubt anyone will go who doesn't haha
I go greenlaning on a 125cc ped haha
Couple of points. Bridleways are not open to public motorised traffic (since 2008) You could have your bike confiscated by riding on them . A BOAT is legally maintained by the local council
I didn't say you could ride on bridleways nor was I and secondly no most green lanes, around here anyway are only kept open by the traffic.
Did you not what the video?
@@spicy110 1. I didn't suggest you had said that you were allowed to ride on Bridleways. I was simply clarifying that you are not allowed to. 2. I stated that the council are legally obliged to maintain BOATs which is the fact. Whether they do abide by this in your area is not what I was suggesting. Calm down. Not everyone here is a troll.
I am calm haha, it just reads like you were correcting something I said, rather than additional info. I'm pretty sure I pointed out the difference of a boat to other paths and took time to talk about horses specifically. Having just done a bit more research it seems some local councils will maintain their byways. They definitely don't do it around here other than the main path, whether they're supposed or not is kind of immaterial. Then I suppose if you found a dangerous area you could call them and let them know. I think it's down to budget and normal roads with all the potholes are eating up that budget. 👍
A silly question... what's the difference between green Laning and trail riding?
Green lanes or byway open to all traffic is a normal road in the eyes of the law. You need licence insurance etc like on the road. Trial riding to me is off road areas that are not roads but you can ride on. These don't really exist that much in the uk.
Poor spicy a loner with no friends. I'm a loner too but I've got the voices in my head as my friends,..... well 4 out of 5,.... the other one is just a jerk as far as we are concerned.... ;-P
TESCO!!!!
Hayling? Your local!
I don't know where you live but yes I have been making videos on hayling for the last 12 years. 👍
The speed limit for green lanes is 35mph it is listed on the uk government website
Could you post a link to the page you have seen please.
Surprise, surprise. No evidence.
I believe 30MPH is the speed limit on a green lane
"BOATs (By ways Open to All Traffic) and PRoWUR (Public Rights of Way Used as Roads) are covered by the national speed limit (therefore 60MPH) unless another TRO or street lighting exists."
@@spicy110 sorry was thinking of TRF code of conduct, just checked and they actually say 25MPH. Highly recommend anyone wanting to do green laning, joins the TRF as membership money helps to fight lane closures and also a good way to find local lanes by joining group rides - as you mention, its much safer being with others
🙂👍
Another great vlog mate, drop me a message my patreon got took down going to do you the patreon fee via paypal sod patreon i'll watch you here and send you a quid for coffee
KEFALOGRAVIERA!!!!!!
All B.O.A.Ts are maintained by the local highways authority ! Green landing is not off roading...
no mention of ucr
It seems ucr and BOAT are almost interchangeable, so not really a issue. Unless you know different?
Riding 8 months... Never heard of greenlaning
Where's the green lane then ? Only watched the vid for the dirt and there isn't any 👎. Change the name of the vid to road ride while I explain what a green lane is 👍
I have plenty of greenlaning videos on the channel, this video clearly states its about what you need to know.
Hi! i was just wondering if a trails bike would be suitable for greenlaning as i l would like to do some stunts and stuff?
Greenlanes are public roads you need licence and insurance on, it would be better to find private land to do "stunts" . Trials bikes are not for travel.
@@spicy110 alright thanks
