Good advice. And it works in all areas of insurance. Last yr I had my bike stolen. The insurance company offered me 'X' pounds. I made a ten minute phone call (from work, naturally) and said I was expecting more than that given the bike's age/condition etc. Within 2 minutes I'd been offered £200 more. That's the best hourly rate I've ever worked. Or ever will. 10 yrs ago I was knocked off my pedal bike and made a claim for damages and personal injury. After 3 protracted yrs I get an offer from the other party's solicitor. My solicitor advises me not to accept it as their solicitor is legally/morally/contractually obliged to get the best deal for his client. So I didn't, and the offer jumped quickly. The moral of the story is.... haggle, in a friendly but firm manner.
Haven’t tuned in for a while, but it’s good to see the DRZ still going strong.
Great tips and advice spicy, I got €41 off this month by just asking. And overall it puts you in a good mood, getting money off. I felt like a real shrewd Operator, a delboy trotter if you will 😂😂😂
Hahaha! 💪
Great video. I am new in the UK and I have like 6 year riding experience outside the UK. will be finishing my CBT next month. When I checked on the comparison websites how much will it cost to insure like a CBR125R i was shocked. Hopefully these tips will come handy.. Thanks a lot
great tips and very helpful, passed my mod 2 carnt wait to finally a bike cheers spicy
Cheers for the tip, definitely gonna use it when I renew from now on. Could you make a video on the best way to sell a bike? I’ve got a Lexmoto Hawk variant and I’m worried I won’t be able to get it sold as I see the same bike as mine go up for sale and stay up for months and months without a sale.
Same as spicy, big reductions in premiums each year for the past 5 (since I was 18) then I had a renewal quote through last month which increased the annual premium by £80 from £300ish on the previous... rung them up and asked for a discount and ended up paying £100 less overall... Definitely worth being questioned
Just got my first bike, 2001 Honda clr, doing cbt, watched your video on cbt and basics on a bike so far I think yours are most informative
Thank you, proudly I can say many agree. 🙂
How do you get along with the CLR? I'm tempted to get one
@@Hazardous975 😂that birch got sold lol was to much work for me bought a ksr code n passed my cbt in December their love every minute on the bike
@@macauleyhall8062 haha they seem to be pretty rare anyway so doubt I'd get one 😂 cheers mate

I'd been with Bennetts for 15 years, and my insurance rocketed from £90 to £350 with full NCB. A quick call to another company got me down to £70. Bennets only response was "Oof!" when I told them the quote from Swinton.
Swinton South Yorkshire ?
Total Loss: I lost two Yamaha Tmax 500's in crashes, one that was 100% the other drivers fault and the other went 50/50 (sadly). The first I bought for £4000 (insured for more) but got £4800 by haggling and pointing out pricing from various sources for replacement for same year, similar mileage. The second I bought for £4500, it was a bargain so I insured it for more, and got £5200 back for same year similar mileage. Both times I spoke with the assessing engineer and he accepted it.
Storage, Chain and locks: I always insure with no chain and locks just in case I forget. But I do store always in a garage :)
Great advice ! Thanks.
perfect timing. I just put a deposit down on a 2019 mt07 and need to insure it :D
All good advice for the newbies. Regarding the two bike insurance thing, apart from the theft aspect, it shouldn't really be that much more money at all bearing in mind that you can only ride one bike at a time.
That is exactly one of the lines I have used to get money off! Haha
great tips, Thank you!!
Wife's car insurance, she hadn't driven for almost a decade. Halved the cost simply saying "look here, she's had the license for a decade, not a single claim, doesn't that matter", halved from over a grand to just over £500. A couple of years down the line, she's already paying less than me - driving since 92 and riding since 94 not a single accident...
My insurance went from 880quid on my Hawk to 220 the following year. The bike is dead though. Needs a new wiring loom... Again.
But the massive price drop is due to A2, moving out of city centre into some small town in the country and 1 NCB.
Price comparison websites are good, but don't forget to use your head as well.
First time I insured my bike, I went with the cheapest option on the comparison site (gear was an added extra). When I went to renew my insurance, the company didn't exist any more. If I had had an accident in that time, I doubt it would have been treated any differently than me not being insured at all.
The cheapest option is not always the best option.
Hello :) thanks for the info. Do you know what the case is when if you were staying overnight in a hotel or left your bike in a shopping car park and it got nicked?
I needed this video! Should be picking my first bike up on Friday and all the insurance stuff was confusing the fuck out of me
Great tip when using comparison search engine, when asked what licence you have the options never seem to have A1, A2 or A, only full or provisional. I have an A2 license so given those options I obviously selected full license (since that what an A2 is). Then when I contacted the insurance company who was cheapest they were ringing off all the details of the policy at 100mph, but I picked up a small issue. The compare the market quote put my license through as an A license. I then told insurance company it's an A2 I have and it put the premium up around £70. Terrible how the comparison sites don't break the license options into A1/A2/A.
If I hadn't highlighted this it would've went to the underwriters, who after I sent a copy of my licence to, would've seen its an A2 I hold and not an A, and then my policy would've been at risk of being cancelled.
Beau Risdon this made me double check my policy and the options my insurance company offer and they only offer full or provisional (and international options) so I guess I’m safe
3 weeks before it's due is the optimum time to renew any insurance.
The later you leave it, the less chance of a decent price. If you leave it until the last minute, you've got little chance because you're seen as more reckless leaving things until the last minute.
Absolutely a good point. On top of that, I imagine they also figure that if you've left it until the last minute then you pretty much can't afford to not renew it ASAP so they've got you by the bollocks.
I just completed my CBT, I’m a professional HGV and Car driver of 21 years !!! With 10 years NCB on my car. MASSIVE difference between bike insurance between a CBT and a FULL bike license!!! Cheapest I’ve managed to get a on basic 125cc automatic moped is £750!!! A full bike license £300. I’m going for my Direct Access full license even though I only want a 125cc moped
i remember checking this video out before my renewal, i was paying 1400 for my first year on my chinese 125, they wanted 800 quid the next year and i thought oh great thats a massive drop but then i kept haggling anyway because i was going to look about and they drop it to 550 a yea, so this is great advice really
my first year premium on a brand new sinnis hoodlum, new rider, is £32 a month.
For max discounts (fully comp or go home):
1. garage
2. double lock your garage
3. sold secure gold or better ground anchor
4. sold secure gold or better motorcycle chain
5. sold secure gold or better motorcycle d-lock
6. screamer disc lock
7. tracker
2018 honda cbr 125r was 1300 to insure fully comp as a new ride.. worth every penny
Every year I go on the compare websites and get a new quote... it means when I contact my current insurer I can tell them I've had a quote for blah blah much so they will normally match it. My Moto Guzzi is a pest though, I've so far only found one insurer that will replace the mods like for like rather than with OE should the bike get damaged or stolen... declaring mods generally just keeps you insured, but often the insurance company will only replace OE.
Was with bennets for my first bike bike mt07 last year was 1.6k fully comp 1 year no claims. This year they wants 3k and wouldn’t budge a inch on the price when I rang them up so said well I’ll go else where and turned auto renewal of. Got quoted £401 from mce this year renewed it yesterday couldn’t believe the price difference 2 year no claims
I was a late learner and only done my cbt last Oct..my little 50cc scooter was only £7 month fully comp and now my 125cc is only £30 month and that's with changing to a different bike charges...I am 42 lol..so unsure if that is accountable for
Great video, however my tip, find the cheapest deal you can THAT INCLUDES LEGAL ASSISTANCE, it fundamentally helps in case of an accident/collision. Why risk the headaches of dealing with letters, claims, going to court etc etc....? I consider everything else as an option... 😎
With many that is a add on of as little as £25 I would check it both ways. But yes 100% legal assistance is great to have. 👍👍
Do you have a some tips for new first time owners ? Because they know you are new and they will try to push to me everything.
Interesting. Older biker thinking of getting back on a bike. I like your content. Thanks
Go for it!
my quote for a yzf r125 on cbt was 1780 for the cheapest and 4400 for the most expensive!
Just on time for when I get a new bike:)
hay dude what was the Chinese bike insurance company you where talking about i cant quite catch the name however laud i play it lol looing round atm and cheapest i can find for my first year on a brand new assault is £450 third party with mce
I just got a quote for my first bike a honda 650 v twin just passed bike test but been driving a car nearly 10 years. Third party fire and theft was 119 for the year. This is Northern Ireland tho so might be different

Quick question;
If I have in my insurance that I have my bike parked in a garage with a lock but it gets stolen when I'm out and about does that mean that the insurance won't work?
If you are away from home its fine that's covered. It's just when you are at home say you leave it on the drive overnight and its stolen but insured to be in a garage they will probably not cover you.
Good advise bud ; )
I'm 34 years old passed my full bike lisence last year first bike was a thundercat 600 that cost me £112 fully comp for the year then 6 months later I moved up to a zr7s and it droped to £98 a year I get my first years no claims bonus next month
hi mate watch out for the fence top video
I found that my insurance for a 125cc was cheaper on the cbt than it is on a full A license because I have had it less than a year with 3year no claims
Just had my first renewal and i called them up after looking for quotes and first thing i asked was can you do cheaper. they gave me another option but wasn't fesable. so ive now gone else where. sometimes you just gota do it.
Yes in some cases its time to move on.
Im looking at getting yzf r125 third party and fire and theft im looking about 800 for my first bike on cbt
My first year was £1200 annual payment for a Yamaha YBR-125 :'( So, thank you Spicy for the tips. Strangely enough, I never actually thought to simply ask for it too be lower
@Jonathan WHHHHHHat? When I had a 2013 YBR a few years ago it was £500 for the year! I'm paying £130 a year for a CBF600 now.....
@@morganmitchell4017 130 a year?? How'd you manage that?

I started riding last sept on a 2015 ybr that was £650 for the year, but that got stolen in jan, bought a new suzuki gsx s125 and built a garage/shed, now having to pay £1000 for the year sadly, hopefully i can get it down a bit next year D: 24 y old too
Mine expired early April. Didn't bother renewing because of the current situation.
as for Insurance they perf to mug u off as what they do longer u stay more they charge i aways go online with a price and say i found it for this but i would perf to say with u and some times they cant beat it (then i leave ) but most time they match or offer better
The last time I asked for a cheaper quote on a car, the lady said we cannot give you a cheaper quote unless someone else beats our quote. I found a cheaper quote elsewhere, and then she did offer me a cheaper quote but not as good, so I got insurance elsewhere, Baffling strategy to sell insurance. I mean I had no intention of leaving but she basically told me to
my first year riding was £2300 on an Aprilia rs4 125 when I was 17 years old and on a cbt.( this was the cheapest quote anywhere at the time)
Do you live in Surry or London? That is bloody high, but then the bike is not cheap either.
If you say it's garaged you need to check the policy... mine says "You have agreed that you will keep your vehicle in your private locked garage or building at your home address to which only you and
anyone with your permission have access. If a theft or attempted theft of your vehicle happens within a 500 metre radius of your home address when the vehicle is not locked in this garage or building we will not pay the claim."... having not ever claimed it reads to me that if it get's stolen at any time from outside your house then they wont pay, that would mean even if you are just going out or got home from a ride or even left it out after a wash!
But yes 100% ask every time and don't be afraid to say no thanks and go somewhere else and this applies to ALL insurance.
Treat them like other road users... assume they are out to get you all the time :)
I think that more refers to overnight storage, but yes I am paranoid about leaving it out unattended, so it stays inside unless im around close by.
Had my bike stolen outside a shop in the middle of the day on a busy street, left it unattended for around three minutes to pop in the shop, all caught on cctv the police found the bike burnt out the next day, the insurance took two months to pay out and paid me less than half what I paid on a brand new bike that was less than two weeks old, and now I have to pay triple
@@spicy110 Hi Spicy My Nephew came home one evening to Find the council had dug a Trench right across his driveway and so he couldn't park up where he had stated on his Insurance. You should have seen the look on the workmen's faces when they arrived back the next morning only to find they couldn't lay there Pipeline and they where arguing amongst themselves convinced they had dug it up the day before.
Yes Hat's of to my Nephew who had filled it in so his Insurance wasn't void.
@@stevejones8665 legend he is for doing that
Recently bought another larger cc bike and was getting quotes over £1000 as I'd only recently returned to riding, ended up paying a fifth by shipping around
My insurance went up by £60 for no reqson, so I got an online quote which was £50 cheaper and rang my insurance company and asked them to beat it which they did by £10.
So they firstly said it would increase by £60 but actually got £60 from the previous year so your tip is spot on.
It also works with other things, phone contracts, internet supplier, sky tv, home insurance ect ect, just ring and tell them you want it cheaper.
Still got a few months left before my renewal but I'm definitely changing provider regardless. Turns out I have £1450 in excess fees so if I do need a claim. I'm paying it all anyway. (MCE... Had 950 compulsory excess which they never really told me about until my bike was stolen and they were gonna ask for 1500 for repairs which was in all a 30 quid job to get it road worthy... Never going with them again)
Yep that's ridiculous!
I’ve got a 2010 YZF R-125, it’s my first year of riding and the cheapest I could get was £1700 a year. I only paid £1200 for the bike.
This is what I'm worried about . The insurance is ridiculous for new riders and I'm wanting to become one very soon .
1:00 Glasses (or whatever it is called) is what most insurance companies DON'T use what they DO use is eBay and Gumtree listing local to THEM for prices. ALSO they screw people over for Chinese bikes like Lexmoto etc,
I had a quote the other day for my second year and it literally halved in price
Genuine question as this got asked when comparing quotes, does car no claims get taken into account? I got a very very reasonable (what I consider anyway) quote on a cbf 125 I am looking at buying with no bike experience and taking a CBT a week before buying the bike, the quote was is lower than my car insurance, me being 30 (31 this month) with 7 or 8 years car NCB
From what I just found googling no they do not accept car NCB for bikes. I can not say more than that as I have never owned a car.
@@spicy110 huh curious, it was asked on a comparison site, no matter either way, was happy with the £306 quote I got, not gonna argue :)
Seems some will give you a discount based on it but is isn't counted NCB. Yer bikes are cheap both mine combined on business insurance is under £400
If I don't add no claims bonus an R3 costs me over 700 quid to insure for example, which is just a little less than car insurance which is crazy
I guess i recieved a cracking insurance quote! My first insurance quote ever on my 2012 cbr600f and managed to get it for £635 i guess its because im 25 but still that a decent quote! :D
Which insurer boss?
also any claim made within 5 or 10 miles of a trackday will be very much looked into.
Same with delivery’s I always lie and say I was going to the shop when i had a accident
I've just joined the 2 wheel family, with a yzfr125 and they're wanting 1100 quid, going to ring up and try to get that down, I pay less on my car and that's worth twice as much!
How much did you bring it down
so my bike (yamasaki f50) was and still is £1500 new Andi got quoted £1643.06 but as soon as I mentioned I've had 5 other quotes all the exact same but for £400 they knocked it down to £750
I’m paying £1500 for a Lexmoto Hawk. Kept in a garage with a big beefy lock and I live in an area with hardly any crime.

Honestly if you plan to go from no bike strait to a liter bike it's going to be very expensive. I would get quotes before buying a bike
Never thought about that actually
Things have changed a but these days. I believe new rules came it that means that can not offer existing customers better rates. That is not to say you can't get a better starting price.
I'm getting quoted £3896 for a year as comprehensive and £3200 for just third party on a 2018 plate locomotive lxr - any tips as this is really putting me off as the insurance is double what the bike is worth
That's way too much. Try a different company and call them do not do it online as if there is some glaring issue they will tell you.
What was that company called for the Chinese bikes insurance as I just brought a lexmoto
Rampdale, they may not be cheap anymore but they used to be.
I'm 48 this year and and have decided to get back onto a motorbike, it's 25 to 30 odd years since I last rode one.
When I buy a new 125cc (I have to start all over again) and let's just say it's a Yamaha and costs £4000 what's the insurance cost likely to be becouse of my age? Just a rough idea is all I'm after.
Almost impossible to say as the are so many factors but im guessing 500-1000 in the first year or two. That's is a total mildly educated punt in the dark

Currently waiting for my provisional license so I can do my CBT and really shocked at how expensive insurance is for a YBR125 2010-2015 model
You should be able to get cheaper than that, shop around. On the phone the sites are pretty useless.

@@spicy110 8-900 blimey. I went on all the different comparing pages first before I chose a company for the insurance. Decided if i went for a cheaper branded bike would help for insurance and I knew going for a Honda as replacement bike, the insurance would be expensive but was surprised that it stayed about the same. Hoping this year will go down like the Sinnis was lol.
How much would Yamaha 125cc for a 17 yr old in London ruffly be
Impossible to say, too many factors you will have to just get some quotes.
can drive 125cc engine with license category B
B!? This is from the dvla site"Category B - if you passed your test before 1 January 1997
You’re usually allowed to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8,250kg maximum authorised mass (MAM). View your driving licence information to check. You’re also allowed to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kg MAM."
That would be a no. For a 125cc you need a cbt as a min or one of the other licenses that also allow larger bikes.
My insurance was high, but I'm only on a CBT! I'm planning on getting a full license soon, but will this drastically decrease the price?
If on the same bike yes you should see a reasonable drop maybe not as much as you hope. If it's a different bigger bike in the first year or 2 you might pay more as you are stepping up the bike size.
@@spicy110 ah nice! Thanks for that. I might stay on my sinnis 125 with a CBT for a little longer and suffer the insurance.RIP
@@FLUFFYMONKEYxl No no no no - go in for your full licence and then stay on your 125 for a while and/or depending on your age, once you pass your full licence, don't jump straight onto the biggest, fastest (organ donating) machine.
Not wanting to hurt peeps feelings but if your are male younger than 30 potentially/statistically you are a greater risk to all road users including yourself and the only way to keep premiums low is to use your noggin not your right hand as fast as you can (hopefully peeps will understand the fact as well as the funny)
How much you paying, I'm waiting on my provisional back doing a CBT & buying a lexmoto lxr.

I would try a different company jesus.
spicy110 it’s the cheapest I can get
Did you try rampdale? The most you would pay in a Yamaha R125 a 4.5k bike is like 2K.
spicy110 just sorted out the issue, I changed my bike, bought a ninja 125, the price dropped by over half! I think it’s because it was a chinese bike
If someone smashes your steering lock to steal the bike how can the insurance company tell if it was used or not?
Finger prints...
year 2000 honda 50 city express 3rd party £ 56 pound NFU
Move to Holland if you’re a biker, best tip! 80€ insurance and 120€ road tax a year! That’s what most of you guys pay a month 😭
£16 a month insurance is rather splendid for moi
Brother how would they know the bike was robbed sans security devices?
Normally damage in removing them. Obviously if that is a chain and they cut it, there will be no damage but the steering lock is not possible to bypass fast so they just smash the bars till it breaks. Disc locks also leave damage when removed depending on the method.
How much is sinnis apache insurance monthly?
It has a lot more to do with you than the bike. Age, licence level, where the bike is kept, where you live, what you do for a job, how many miles you ride and so on.
Go on compare the market. Itll give you quotes when you fill in the online form. You dont get charged for it. It's free
£2300 to insure a honda cbr 125, i got my cbt on the 25th of Jan, and I'm 26 years old. What a joke. The lowest I can find is £1300 but its a dodgy insurance company being underwritten by another dodgy company. And also i cant do courier jobs or deliveries on that policy, need special insurance for that. I'll have to haggle on phone it seems but it's annoying how these companies love to bend people over.
I'm one of those people who don't like talking on the phone. Gimme a face to face anyday over that.
Shit. I got my bike insured yesterday and accepted the first price they gave me like a bitch.. :'(
I remember last time I bought a new bike I changed insurer because my previous insurer offered me a quote at £3000 and I found it for £720. When I insured the bike I was given 21 days to send proof of no claims so when I called my previous insurer to cancel I asked and they said it’ll be sent out within 2 weeks and it never came so I called again and they said we’ll send a copy priority post it can take up to a week I called my new insurer and explained the situation and they said ok well if it doesn’t turn up by the deadline we’ll talk to your old insurer and extend the deadline so a week passed and it didn’t turn up so I called my old insurer and they said we’ll make it a priority Emil job and have it sent out within 24 hours if your new insurer needs to call us they can. Called my new insurer explained the issue I was having and the asshole on the other end of the line threatened to cancel my policy so I told them about the conversation I had the previous week with their colleague and they reluctantly helped me out. So remember guys no claims proof get it sorted immediately and changing companies can actually be more hassle than its worth if the quote isn’t significantly better
