TB2, according to the manuals, weighs about 100 tons fully ladden. None of TB2's pod machines could haul that. Presumble, Brains would ah hoc something to pull it inside but it couldn't be done overnight.
Actually, Cov, bear in mind the number of articles I've written on the Anderson shows that have been picked up on mentioned on the various Anderson show websites, they do think I know what I'm what I'm writing abut. TB2 is 250 foot long and upto 100 tons and we never see any of the vehicles capable of pulling it along, sans landing gear, let alone turning it around inside the hanger. Granted, back in the 1960s, Derek Meddings didn't need to show all the details but you do have to wonder at how they turned it around.
Thunderbird 2 is capable of VTOL so we could probably assume that she landed with the jets facing the cliff face normally and was towed into her hangar.
With ten minutes to go let's review the situation: They've got just nine minutes of oxygen left with only eight minutes before they die. We need seven minutes to pull off our rescue. Six if we have problems. At the five minute mark they'll be just four minutes left before we get to them, we arrive with just three minutes to go AND it takes two minutes to get them out. If only we had just one minute more because the safety factor now leaves zero minutes.
I have the video version where they combined both episodes, as they also did with four other episodes before doing them separately in later videos. It survived the combination better than what they did to UFO's first video. Whether the videos will hold their value depends on video recorder availability but that hasn't stopped the interest in the Century 21 records so who knows??
Oh my god, I absolutely agree with you. This was one of two combination Videos I had from 'Channel 5 Video' The other was End of the Road/Perils of Penelope. I preferred this particular version of the crash sequence with the music behind as it always amp-ed up the tension in my humble opinion and there's nothing added or taken away. Dam you Ned Cook.
Brilliant episode originally but this "Countdown to Disaster" version is an absolute abortion. Why did they feel the need to put random bits of Barry Gray's brilliant musical cues on a continuous loop, completely disengaged from what is going on on screen? The music on the originals was brilliantly scored and matched to the visuals. Leave it alone!!
I do agree the additional scores in the compilation films were kind of overkill. But I have to admit though, I do think the "Trapped in the Sky" scoring as Thunderbird 2's under attack was one of the few additional scores that actually worked. Kind of wish they'd included it in the original "Terror in New York City" episode. Plus it would've been the only time we'd hear the scoring in full as only various segments were heard each time it was used in the series.
one of the greatest scenes in Thunderbirds

Here's a better version. :)
This was freaking traumatic as a child.
Seeing thunderbird 2 in this state really upset me she's my favourite machine out of the 5 of them
I think most fans consider Thunderbird 2 their favourite lol
I do admit, I was distraught when I first saw this episode
***** I have to say, seeing it on the original Countdown To disaster Video was quite a shock.
I think we all were
@@alextrd931 Yes, who wasn't distraught when they saw Thunderbird 2 shot down and then crash land at Tracy Island?
that siren at 1:27 sounds like a person going oooooooh ooooooooh into a synthersizer EPIC
Hi yes, then there's the 'whoooshhhhh' of the missiles launching too....
1:27
Thunderbird two dying makes me cry, Vigil is soo cute in this scene ;) xxx
It's like watching a close friend being beat up. :(
As a child I kept screaming at the tv saying “save thunderbird 2” or “you can’t do that to thunderbird 2”
Thunderbird 2's always been my favourite. I never liked seeing her in this state.
Have to agree she is and always will be my favourite
Has anyone ever wondered how they got TB2 back into the hanger the right way around after the crash with no under-carriage??
They're International bleeding rescue.........they got the gear to do stuff like that....honestly......do you know nothing? lol. :-)
@StarbugProductions Is it the US Navy's fault I would think?
Awesome, as always.
What Tracks did you used to reedit this episode?

The recovery vehicles could do it. They have over 500 ton haulage capacity combined, and that's vertical.

I assume Brains has a team of mechanics and engineers to fix the craft
Nope
most likely the recovery vehicles that were still in the hanger
Problem is if the Firefly was damaged

Trust the US Navy to be responsible for a friendly fire accident.
Iran Air 655 in July 1988, quite similar to Thunderbirds 2 here. But sadly was shootdown with 290 passengers and crew killed.
release foam section B!!!
@geoffsfc Strings :D

@@AndrewChapman completely agree with this
