From a pyscological (and writing) perspective this scene is wonderful. A cute childish game has so much deeper context, we know she will always treat Catherine like a child despite being married, pregnant and EMPRESS. Her mum made a game that puts their intimacy under her control and only on her mark "pop". She could say "bubble" for 10 minutes and i bet Catherine would keep going thinking "mother has missed me so much she wants to keep playing". Lots of lovely nodds to the whimsical fantasy Catherine was like when she arrived at court. Within moments of embrace her motive is clear "there are rumours you have stolen your husbands throne" - roughly. Shes not here to congratulate her or comfort her as she nears motherhood, shes only there to "sort the mess out". Great scene, great actresses.
Catherine’s revert to being child-like as soon as her mother arrived is such a clear indicator of a manipulative babying relationship between her and her mother.
Agreed. The mother was there to tell everyone essentially what they already knew, and to put thoughts into her daughters head. I have a grandmother that is like this but not as crazy… And she sure will make a room feel tight as hell
I do look like that when I am about 8 months pregnant .. but I can’t run like that 😝 although I am still able to do everything including tying laces 😉. But the running.. as soon as I get to twenty weeks my back says ; no way..

Her mother's parenting screams narcisstic parenting. She pride in her daughter marrying prince's because it reflect on her as a mother. Catherine reaction when they were playing music her mother did not like screams a child who is use to monitor their parent's wish and desire. Catherine shows that she has living her life walking egg shells to please her mother wants and desires and somehow still hoping to gain her approval.
@@JB-wy8fc actually is very well recorded that Catherine the greats mother was a narcissist. Her mother basically treated her like a burden until the death of her much younger brother. At that point she finally set her eye on Catherine and pushed for her to marry much higher than she had done. @@kaylaireland3494 true but idk I had a rough pregnancy and wasn't doing that at all especially that far along but I was 5"3 who got knocked up by a guy over 6"5 with his mini me lol. I believe power makes that with people. I mean we have presidents nowdays, but it's not the same as kings or zars... I think the power rises into the people's mind and makes them a bit more crazier. I mean it has to happen. So much power, so much responsibility.
In fairness in this her mother is horrible to her and Catherine is on edge the whole time trying to please her (go watch their dining scene). I think this character of catherine has simply forgotten such horrible things "distance makes the heart grow fonder" amd wanted a small piece of home again.
Thank you for liking my comment. May I say something? I bought my mother a necklace that looks just like the one she is wearing in this video. And my mom passed away along time ago, so I feel like the empress of Russia from now on and yes I do you can refer to me as the empress of Russia from now on yes you can
Funniest thing - after Catherine married her mother was basically thrown out of Russia and never came back. So this scene is completely and utterly fictions and couldn’t have happens at all Still very funny
@BlackVenus True but Gothel probably saw alot more of Rapunzel. Catherine would have had nannys/governess to be the primary care giver. So i put em equal footing.
Given that she came from not a very powerful family her mother didn’t looked impressed with her daughter suddenly being an empress in her own right. I mean… I know they kinda used a lot of creative liberty here but still..

I know! I really do like Catherine and Orlo. They seem to have an accepting and understanding relationship; with common interests and goals that really set them apart. I do like Peter ( Nicolas Holt is hysterical), but, for me, he and Catherine just don’t fit. They are great in every scene they’re in together, but I’m not a fan of their romance. Orlo speaks to Catherine like a real human being, and isn’t afraid do what’s right for Russia.
It’s woke. Smh african, Arab, eastern Indian do they have a Chinese character. Surprisingly they don’t include native Americans, hispanics of all mixtures.

The fact that she’s heavily pregnant and running down the stairs is hilarious and the little routine her and her mum do even if her mum is shady later
It's a prosthetic, then and now. Catherine had mild downs syndrome and was barren. Fact.
