And on Oscar night you can read Cate mouth "Rooney" as she thinks to herself when she first lays eyes on Rooney that night. It was excitement and relief for Cate to finally spot Rooney in the crowd. I found the movie too rigid. Not a fan at all. But we all have our tastes and that's okay. Not bashing either of the actresses down at all. I don't or liked the casting of them together in this film. I found it flat, boring and had zero chemistry between the two of them.
WHAT? I thought they had fantastic chemistry. Maybe because the character of Therese was inexperienced? She had all these feelings for Carol but had no idea how to express them, she was so YOUNG. It was the 1950’s! So perhaps it came across as “boring” because of the inner build up of each character - each too afraid to outwardly show their attraction for one another. I found Carol’s slow, covert seduction of Therese to be very sexy.
There is so much feeling exchanged in their looks, and their silence and what they spoke and what hey didn't speak. People these days have become numb to this beautiful subtly because they are constantly bombarded with loud, fast action movies.
Carol has me on the floor sobbing still and it's been a while since I've seen it 🥺
