      Kenneth Reyes lol. I thought they meant that it was great quality so that is what they expect. The ones who took this in the negative way, have a negative outlook on life and see the glass half empty because it could have meant in a good way or bad. It was up to us to interpret it.

    last time I fed my venus flytrap a live fly, the fly got it's head stuck between the 'teeth' while it closed so it stared at me and I had to push the little head in..why does it have to get so gruesome for me.

      Austin Elliott and PsyduckNation, you're not supposed to feed all of the traps in a venus flytrap, it could overwhelm the plant and end up killing it. The general rule is that if you feed your plant, give it one insect per week at most.

      The plant makes a nectar that attracts insects and then once two trigger hairs inside the mouth of the traps is touched it lights out.

  • @OAleathaO
    @OAleathaO 7 років тому +42

    Just don't make the mistake alot of people do with feeding their VTs. Use live insects as the constant moving around the insect does after the trap closes continues to trigger the trap. If you feed it dead insects and trigger the trap yourself you risk the trap thinking it was a false trigger and opening up too soon without digesting the insect.

    • @czammac
      @czammac 7 років тому +11

      All you need to do is massage the trap for about 40 seconds after the trap closes to trigger the digestive process

I have heard from people who say they have traps in areas with heavy insect populations such that almost all traps are sprung most of the time, and they say their traps do well. I don't have experience, but I do know from other hobbies that people often make unfounded claims that are taken as truth.

Humanity actually goes through rigorous research to provide honest analysis of the world around us but you come along and throw it away for the abrahamic religions that have fueled blood shed, corruption and the dark ages.
      Jehova isn’t why you have internet and a computer, it was science.

    • @lecelly6697
      @lecelly6697 6 років тому +13

      So the bible is correct because the bible says its correct. Great.
      Just because things 'LOOK LIKE' they've been created does not mean they were. You are once again masquerading your personal feelings/beliefs as logical reasoning.
      Can you actually cite a source that fully supports the idea of creationism without resorting to theology?
      Can you disprove why the earth has been calculated to be older than a few thousand years?
      Many well-known biologists such as Ken Miller are open about their faith and yet fully support the evolutionary model.
      Evolution is real, has been documented on a micro and macro level.

    I keep flys myself and have read a bit about them and several times, books on care specifically say _not_ to do this. They usually say that at no time should all of a flytrap's traps be triggered, with food or empty. It's supposedly bad for the plant because the plant requires a mix of various states of digestion at any given time and it's too much of a strain.

    I feel bad for that one fly who's head is sticking out and trying to escape. I wonder if he made it.

      Depends :)
      For the plant to release the enzymes to break up the insect (like it's own stomach acid) the insect has to trigger multiple hairs on both sides of the plants "mouth". It does this to conserve energy and not waste it on what could be just a fallen leaf or dirt. The plant has about 4 hairs inside the "mouth" of the plant. The same hairs that have to be set off for it to start producing enzymes need to have 2 of the hairs triggered in under 20 seconds for it to close, that's why in the video you see him rub his finger inside before he puts the fly in. Maybe since just his head was stuck inside he wasn't able to trigger the other hairs to make it release "acid" that would break down the bug. Honestly I never would have thought about this is you hadn't asked that question and I am now curious so thank you :)

    I felt bad for the traps that didn’t eat and the flies that were only half way in... how the heck do they even eat flies?

      The absorb all the nutrients and protein from the flies and slowly crushing them.

      So the plant has a few hairs on the inside. The insect has to trigger two of these hairs under 20 seconds before the plant will close due to it not wanting to waste energy on a false alarm (this is why he sometimes rubbed his finger in one before he put the fly in). Then once the insect is inside it must trigger multiple hairs the plant ((to make sure its doesn't waste energy)) for the plant to start releasing enzymes (a plants version of the stomach acid we have) which breaks down every part of the insect like our stomach acid would to food.

    I remember I fed all my traps once, they digested it all and all the traps went black and died.... then sprouted twice as many traps the next week 🏁 motivation

    When the flies arrive, they notice there is a dead body on one of the so-called flowers, then they realize it’s a trap. They try to run away, but it’s too late.......
    One of them would be lucky to get stuck in with the dead body

    Do they actually do anything with the fly? Like consume it somehow or just traps it until it dies?

      They suck it dry pretty much. Looks like a flat raisin afterwards. They absorb all the nutrients and protein for them :) You can take the body out later.

      Co Lin after they absorb the nutrients, it opens back up again and the body either just kinda sits there, or drips out.
