I have heard this song thousands of times. It was a hit when I was a teenager. I can remember going to one of our church softball games in the springtime and the memories are distinct. But I just heard for the first time the unusual drum beat for this song. It is like reading a passage in the Bible and for some reason the passage rings truer that day. Of course Rod Argent always tickles those keyboards.
You think this is good? My wife bought tickets for us to see them live. We had front row seats at a small Theatre venue in Margate in England. The venue had a capacity of just 500 people. It was my birthday. You have just had the pleasure of 4 minutes and sixteen seconds. We enjoyed an hour and a half of this incredible band. A birthday treat that I will never forget. Thank you, darling.
Rod Argent's organ content on Time of the Season is arguably one of the best keyboard riffs ever.......up there with anything from Jimmy Smith..... Still as faithful to the original as one would wish.......and of course, the Zombies were big in the US. I remember buying this back in 1968...... Still sends shivers up the spine........ James Hennighan Yorkshire, England
RIP to bassist James Walter Rodford. Present here. Also played with Rod Argent in Argent and was with The Kinks for almost two decades from 1978 until 1996. His son is the drummer here and stayed with the group.
How in the hell can Colin still sing like this? He's simply amazing - I think one of the most underrated voices ever, he can sing very calm and quiet and … well just listen to him belt here - wholly moly. Love his voice
It's funny. While rod Argent is playing his solo on the Hammond organ you can see a fire extinguisher in the background. they must need it because this was smokin' hot.
I so love The Zombies ... damn they still sound good !!! About to do their 50th Anniversary and Final Tour. I saw Argent back in the 70's (fantastic) , no idea that it was formed from this great band.
Dear zombies. i love you. thank you for all the beauty you have brought into the world. you're angels. I saw you live (3 times) a couple years back. I'm so glad that worked out. you guys sound wonderful. you are musicians I really look up to and feel I have learned so much from you, with your chords and melodies, baselines and lyrics. my favorite is oddesy and oracle. but I (in buckets) love everything you've done musically. brilliant stuff guys. you hit the magic chord.
I saw them live in a club last year. Excellent. Incredible they are still performing. I wasnt alive when this song was recorded. My parents were teens then, now they are in there 60's. Colin and Rod look well too.
You and Xzabien do know that there _still_ is real music being made and performed, right? And that you both aren't just living in the Golden Oldies Zone permanently, right?
Assuming much are we? I listen to a lot of music, mostly new stuff. Rhcp dark necessities off the getaway is surprisingly good, but appreciating good old music doesn't make a kid weird. I might assume that you listen to crap like Drake or Kanye on autotune but then I'd be like you.
I was born in Arica Chile Living in Fargo North Dakota now i have 55 now... I remember these guys listening their music on the Radio AM.. Tears from my Heart!
This has more guts than the original version I think. And I am old enough to have heard the original version on the radio when it first came out. I like this one better. (It's pretty faithful to the original. Rod does have the right to change his organ solo...and you can't do a fade out live...and at times when groups are charging $100 to 200 a pop to see them live $50-$60 is a reasonable price.
When I was recuperating from my hip surgery I saw them perform on PBS several times. They are supposed to be coming to Fall River (my original home town-12 miles away) August 6. Hoping to catch them live. How have you been Dennis?
The original was pretty gutsy too. Just writing the line "What's your name, who's your daddy? Is he rich like me?" is pretty ballsie for someone in their early 20's in the 1960's to think, much less put out there in a song that they wanted to get air play. It's really a great line.
yeah, it's really hairy around the edges, the arrangment, the playing, the newer equipment vs 50 yrs ago, but the vocals are still such a joy to hear - the lads are vocally really strong & Rod is fantastic as always on the keys.just love this new version & so happy everybody was so up to do it, yay!
yup, no description available. Now where in the world are my old palz to go see this near Chicago.. THEY SOUND GOOD! And what a catalog! Keep on rockin, Zombies, so glad you are together for the tour! wow..
The keyboard player reminds me of the guy from Vanilla Fudge Ha, just realized that's Rod Argent. I saw his band Argent in NYC in the early 70s. Rod came onstage and said: " For those of you who saw us here last year, we're better now". I laughed for weeks. Also there was Blue Oyster Cult, Flash and I think they were opening for Jeff Beck (who was very late), if I remember right.
Loved this song in 1968! My parents and brother listened to them. I was young but still loved it bc I was learning keyboard at the time. It was fun as a kid to imitate the big musician’s music;)
This is such a changing of times song, it fit right in between the Shit and The Shine of the times, and although I was only an Elementary Catholic School Kid! It brings back memories of lot's of company/gatherings at my home and the energy and positivity of the people that came to my home, and me sitting on top of the Stereo/Hi Fi watching and listening to the intense conversations the adults were having at the time! Good Goose Bumps! Peace Man!
Recording quality has gotten better but the band hasn't. The dynamics and mysteriousness of the opening are gone. At the time it would have been even more impressive but this is a poor version.
Wow! They still sound awesome... I was just a kid when this song came out and back then my folks would play the 45 (record) over and over including all the best classic back in the late 60s.
This is music, true music...when a song was a production, and a concert was an event. The amount of time and thought that went into a single verse truly shows up as poetry in the music. 60s and early 70s....the greatest musical era in history.
Colin's voice is simply immortal. I just can't believe he still has his range. Absolutely amazing!
Wish music was still this good. Not all music is bad now but this was just so unique and original.
I got chills when Colin began singing. His voice sounds just as phenomenal live as it does on the albums!
You lucky dog! I bet you good laid too!~
That’s so awesome 👏🏼 I’d love to see them I’m 37 & I loveeee 60’s bands
Bastard!
Are they s t i l l in stage ? Great music of the past...yes indeed! Yours Susan from South Germany 👍🌄
You lucky bugger
Rod Argent is wicked. I have always loved this group. RIP Mr Redford. This song will never die.
That's one of the greatest drum grooves I've heard in my life !
Absolutely! Defined the song as much as the organ solo
Yes, listening to this with headphones I was struck by the drum part. Very impressive, along with all the other impressive parts!
Rod Argent's organ content on Time of the Season is arguably one of the best keyboard riffs ever.......up there with anything from Jimmy Smith.....

Rod's great...still got it...for riffs shout out to Dave Greenfield of the Stranglers...a genius...both legends
And he did it again in 1973 with his namesake band "Argent", Hold Your Head Up.
Excellent Jimmy Smith reference; you know your music. Thanks for not using the useless teenage phrase "underrated".
Amazing!
RIP to bassist James Walter Rodford. Present here. Also played with Rod Argent in Argent and was with The Kinks for almost two decades from 1978 until 1996. His son is the drummer here and stayed with the group.
That drum beat is very unique and nice good organ too these guys still have good sounding pipes fantastic
I’ve always loved the drums on this song.
Can't beat a Hammond organ
EXCELLENT STUFF!! Still sounding amazing!! Rod Argent is a MONSTER!!! Brilliant!!
Man they still sound FANTASTIC !!!!
I saw them just the other night-fantastic!!!! The solo's on Hold Your Head Up & This classic were incredible....

Holy crap, their ability to play and sing aged way better than most bands from the 60s.
most of the band from the 60s are dead
@@LednacekZ
Your point being???
@@dr.OgataSerizawa anyone can sound better than a dead man
@@LednacekZ lmao
Totally agree, they are very tight and their vocal and harmony work is incredible.
I love this era of music. My grandparents where so freaking lucky.
It was a special era. It’s nice to be able to beam in on it with great performances like this!
I could listen to them all day. Loved them in the 60s love them eve more now
It's nice to see a 60's ban with the lead singer still alive,..and sounding actually better than before !!

Just an excellently put together song. Will never age. 60 thumbs up!
Colin Blunstone still sings with that incredible voice.
the Zombies were well ahead of their time in '69 ..the vocalist just doesn't know what a good voice he has...these guys are really magic..

I saw him last week, 79 and sounding amazing
Damn, these guys still got it.

That is Jim Rodford on the Bass's son Steve....
@@jjjj-uw3yh Thanks So Much jjjj
Rod Argent is truly one of the greatest Hammond Organ players - EVER
This would have to be the best organ solo in the history of music :)
What about Whiter Shade of Pale ?
I agree It's wonderful!
Rick Wakeman said that Rod's solo on "Hold Your Head Up" was the best rock organ solo of all time. High praise coming from Rick!
Damn, what a solid slice of rock n roll. Excellent playing! No bs hiding behind smoke and lights… and those vocal harmonies! Top notch!
Just wow - all these years later, Awesome.
Did that guy just completely crush a solo on an organ?? Why, yes, yes he did - holy hell that was great
badlucklazyguy Yup. That guy would be Rod Argent.
Rod Argent is a fucking legend.
@@BreadandFaxes Legend is right my friend! Rod Argent has still got it after all these years! Awesome.
I guess since Keith Emerson is gone, Rod takes the throne... :-(
