Android mini wishlist: 90hz refresh rate Bezel less OLED screen (min 1000nits) 4g is fine! Not the top SoC, but not the worst (never really need all that power for day 2 day) I'd really like a good battery (like at least 4000mAh) Great cameras on the back! (Wide and ultra wide(with macro))(And a hole punch up front) Fingerprint reader on the back Plastic back (just not shoddy looking)
Switched to the iPhone 13 Mini from the iPhone 12 Max, wanted to use my phone less and immediately saw 25% decrease in screen use time. Small phones are great to help break phone addiction
It's cool to me to see how people are different, for me if I had a Max phone THAT would make me use my phone less because I cannot handle holding such a big and heavy device in my hands and would feel bothersome taking it in and out of my bag (or pocket if I had such big pockets which I don't). On the other hand, I never feel the screen is too small for me for anything I do on the Mini (browsing, taking memos, facetime, reading books, watching media, chatting), basically I like when things are "small" that goes for content and letters too it's fine with pictures as well, and I play games with the iPad instead. The only thing I'd like to change on the Mini is 2gb more RAM.
I've constantly been on a congested network where LTE was barely functional (sometimes not loading anything). After getting 5G, my phone finally works in those areas. 5G is absolutely a must have for me.
Andrew, I don't know how you'll feel about the end of the current season of Attack on Titan. I was very all up in my confused and distressed feelings. Good luck! p.s. Good episode as always boys.
I prefer small phones but battery life is my most important spec and I’m always gonna go for whichever device has the best battery life, especially if it’s 2+ hours more than the smaller option. I miss my 12 mini but the 13 pro max battery life is amazing. Battery anxiety is the worst and I hate carrying around cords/battery packs.
Props to Marques for refusing to be a corporate shill. It’s so easy to sit back and get a nice, big check in exchange for your endorsement. It takes a great deal of integrity to care more about your name and reputation.
My main experience with drones is with people who ignore the national park rules and it really makes me dislike them. The sound of that loud buzzing while someone tries to take a selfie and I’m just trying to enjoy nature.
iPhone 13 mini hit all my needs except USB c and letting me install apps I want (tachiyomi is a must for me) If the EU has its way with the fair markets (or whatever) act, then that's not impossible, just would need Apple to release another mini with USB c. On the Android side, I really wouldn't mind a single camera, maybe someone can combine ultrawide with Sony's zooming tech from Xperia 1 mk IV and have the versatility of 3 lenses in one camera. For a rugged body I feel 5a nailed it with a metal body and a plastic coating, given that we're giving up on wireless charging, though Pixel 5 had a good way to do both (I also feel like moto mods were a great idea which could have helped here to add specific features like wireless in an after market manner) I also want 90 Hz LTPO, it can just be an option, though I assume it'll raise the price a bit. As I'm writing this, I feel like Eric just wants a Pixel 5 in iPhone mini size (and I get his desire for the feel of glass or metal, though I personally am also okay with the Google fabric cover material), it's really difficult to have both ruggedness of a Pixel 5 or 5a with the feel of the iPhone, replaceable backs really were the best option to have both. (I would take one replaceable back in the same material as the fabric covers)
I got an iPhone 13 mini, also love it. Will stick with it as long as I can and hope they will release a mini phone every few years. Doesn't need one every year imho, but like every few years would be fine by me. Going back to a big phone is not an option for me. Not using my phone that much, sometimes I only need to charge the mini every other day. If they do a great mini android phone that would be an option for me, as I really don't mind switching to android.
What I wouldn't give to be in 2022 and JUST starting AOT. But also that sounds like a hell of a viewer experience to try watching something like that or a movie and then randomly getting an ad. Sounds super unenjoyable.
I have an iPhone 12 mini, I chose it solely because it is my work phone. I run a pixel 6 pro as my main phone and since I have to carry a work phone I wanted the smaller option.
the 250g drone rules are nation wide and set by the FAA. Theres a 400 ft height limit and if you fly at night you need an extra light which puts you over the weight limit. You may also need prop guards if flying over people which also puts you over 250g and at that point you need to register. While it is a toy you still need to follow rules to keep you out of the legal limits if you dont want to register the drone. Also airspace rules still apply so if youre within the limits of an airport or certain events there are extra limits regardless of the weight of the drone.
I’ve been having an iPhone 12 mini since launch and it’s been fantastic. Love the form factor and Andrew you are absolutely right. I turn off 5G and my screen on time is under two hours daily. I use my phone for basic things and certain things. I have a work phone (pixel 6) and a personal tablet (iPad mini 5) so the mini isn’t my only device. I’m hanging on to the mini until it’s no longer supported and even then it’s a collector’s item. It’s just a keeper!
Even in movies I do not care about ads. It is nice to have the break. THis is, however because I DO NOT watch movies or shows without having something else happening like a meal, working on a project, etc. I do not sit down and do nothing as I watch media. It is nice to get the breakers to put plates away, get the rest of the meal, bathroom, etc.

I got a iPhone 13 mini for the sole fact that it was the smallest flagship available at the time. I love it, and will probably use it until it's dead, unless someone comes out with a new mini flagship phone in a couple years (I don't want to get rid of a phone just because something new and shinny comes along and contribute to more e-waste). I think $500-$700 would be a good price point.
You guys still keep referring to the millimeter wave variant of 5G. C-band 5G is far more impactful from a day to day use perspective. So, depending on what carrier you have, 5G can be a very big deal, especially if you live in a major city, where c-band 5G can cover most of that major city, both in and out of buildings.
Still an amazing podcast as usual! The first half I was laughing because I had to picture in my head what dalle was making because I’m a listener only.
If Apple discontinues the iPhone Mini I'll just buy the 13 until the rest of my life... I'm currently on the SE 2020 and it's just the perfect size for a smartphone and I love that they kept the size the same with the minis.
I would trade it in for a 13 mini I switched from a se 2020 to the mini and it's great. Once you get used to face id and the swiping from home it's perfect.
I do want to add that there are some people who want small phones and use their phone just as much as everyone else. Problem is, they have small hands and so the large size of most flagships make it nearly impossible to use. The ideal small phone is one that won't make people feel like they're getting a worse smart phone experience just because they have small hands
Remember that phone "created" by the guy that created the essential PH-ONE? I really liked that design. It was like the outer display from the Galaxy fold.
I have an iphone mini and I use it like any other person. I average about 6 hours of screen on time. I would buy a sub $600 Android with those specs if it was compact enough.
God, all I want is a small phone that is a bit chunky to allow for bigger battery. Imagine iPhone mini that is a bit more thick and can have an entire day of screen on time?
I'm sure by now you've had plenty of comments and I'm a bit late but the drone being under 250grams is also important for the (recently standardized) EU law where that weight is also a cut off for unregistered and unlicensed non-commercial use.
My biggest beef with Netflix is the simple fact that they're a streaming service, and typically don't allow any Netflix Originals to have physical releases. Thankfully, I can count on one hand the number of Netflix Originals I care about. And one of them got a limited physical release in Japan, so I bought that (expensive as it was). Ironically enough, the only Netflix Originals I find myself interested in enough to pay for the subscription is animated stuff. And Netflix just went ahead and cancelled a bunch of upcoming animated originals. So they kinda made up my mind for me. Plus, $23aud per month for 4K Netflix is kinda bullshit when Disney Plus is doing 4K HDR streaming for only $12aud per month.
They night just limit the number of signed in devices. We have one of those in Denmark, and while you can still share account you can only log into 5 devices. Between TV’s phones and laptops, it is hard to share with others without just signing into your phone and casting everything
My 2 fav iPhones are the 13mini and the 13 pro max. Both are so great at their own kind of use case. A mini phone is so refreshing and makes it so easy to bring especially compared to huge phablets. The biggest sacrifice is of course battery life. The opposite problem happens in the pro max. I cannot kill the phone even using it all day. Display is killer and cameras are the best I’ve used. But it’s huge. Like I’m struggling to find shorts that can handle them comfortably.
I'm really looking for the smaller phone. I'd love to buy the iPhone 13 mini, but I'm not comfortable investing into the Lightning cable ecosystem when it's going bye-bye with the new EU regulation. So, I'd be willing to spend about the same as 13 mini (700-ish USD) for the flagship Android mini phone. In terms of stated features, I'd say that IP rating is a nice-to-have, but actually building water-tight phone is a must have (like some of the OnePlus phones, where they don't rate it as IP, but it have all the necessary gaskets to make it water-resistant). 5G is a must-have because you're buying the flagship phone for the long-term use, 3+ years. By that time, 5G should be more of a thing, especially depending on where you are in the world.
37:00 to me the smartwatch replaces the need to look at the front cover display. That's how I tend to use it anyhow. I glance at my watch for all those things that would probably suit the front cover display. I dunno. Never used a foldable so maybe I'm off base.
It's already difficult for me to tap the 3 little vertical dots needed to access features in most apps, trying to do that on a mini phone would actually be impossible.
Obviously Mac is short for McGillicuddy. The early 20th century Philadelphia Athletics manager Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy, aka Connie Mac. obviously
I want a Pixel a-series phone in the size of an iPhone 13 mini. Battery life is more important than performance, as long as I can get midrange performance. I might get an iPhone 13 mini when it gets a price drop.
I see more Apple doing a personal robot assistant than a car. I don't understand why they would go down that route. It is hard to be profitable, very competitive market with each country/continent protecting their brands...
I don’t account share with Netflix but what gets me about their password sharing crack down is their complete lack of transparency around it. There are countless examples of legitimate uses that COULD appear to be password sharing from Netflix’s end depending on what they’re looking for. Yet Netflix has thus far refused to explain how this is going to work, which leads me to believe that a lot of these legitimate uses are going to be swept up in all of this.
I would want an Ultra Mini. If I could get the 22 ultra mini. Meaning the same cameras, screen, and processor. Smaller means crappy battery but I would get a battery case because it would still be small enough.
Just hearing that Marques has been asked to provide inputs to a phone to make it a signature phone of his was exciting because, I almost wanted to ask him...when would you want to make your own phones and probably review them. so there, that's it.
I know it's not "mini" but 5.6" or 5.8" is still comparatively smaller than most current phones (over 6") and it would be be enough for a better/bigger battery which would make a lot of these "needs" more possible. I think 5.4" with the current battery tech is asking too much and the sooner people accept that the sooner we can have smaller phones with more manageable battery life. In 2-3 years 5.4" might be more of a possibility.
To be fair: you don't need a case with an iPhone. Mines lasted just fine. The only real compromise there is minor cosmetic scratches, which I think lots of people are fine with as long as it doesn't shatter on one drop
@@toptiertech7291 yep. Personally I just like the feel in my hand. Seems silly to have companies pour so much into the design and then slap a case on it. What was the point of going thinner then?
I bought a pixel 4a a couple months ago specifically cause I wanted a small phone, amazon actually sent me a pixel 4a with 5g (they made it bigger) and I'm kinda bummed about it but not enough to warrant the return cause it was such a hassle to find one where I live
In Europe Apple doesn't only meed to change the iPhone to USB-C. That (proposed?) law says all consumer electronics need to go USB-C. So, yeah also airpods and so on
Andrew talking about how much he hates watching several minutes of ads with every tv show on Hulu is pretty funny considering at 58:59 he says that they aren’t willing to pay for the more premium version to get rid of ads. People talk about wanting to pay to avoid ads the same way people say that they want smaller phones. In theory they have strong feelings about what product they want, but what matters is what product that buy at the end of the day. The mainstream average consumer wants value, which for phones means getting more physical phone for every dollar you spend and for subscriptions that means getting access to the content you want while paying the least amount.
There's a difference between a free version with ads (which I'm all for) and a paid for version with ads. If Hulu had some better titles I'd totally be willing to pay more, but I still think it's sucks that I'm paying and still getting ads. And I'll think that sucks if Netflix puts ads on their basic tier.
I went from the iPhone 7 Plus to the Bassline iPhone 12, small enough for me especially since most of the 7 space was bezels. I use swipe down reachability a lot still tho
Here in Paraguay, 4G only gets to like 80Mbps, if you are standing still near a cell tower, otherwise it is terrible, so no I don't see 5G as a must have, not yet at least.
Man, the editing on these episodes are spot on. The "flashback" with the harp playing was a super nice touch.
I love the Pixel 5 Design. The symmetric bezels on it look amazing and the camera cutout on the back is done so clean.

PHYSICAL MEDIA FTW, as far as I'm concerned. If streaming is the only way that I can see it, then I probably won't.
The small phone wishlist - basically just the galaxy s10e
I wonder what would happen if you ask Dall-E 2 for: "A person that doesn’t exist"
And google just released Imagn which is similar to Dall-E2
To be fair: you don't need a case with an iPhone. Mines lasted just fine. The only real compromise there is minor cosmetic scratches, which I think lots of people are fine with as long as it doesn't shatter on one drop
I also pay for AppleCare. So I’d rather pay $29 for a front or back glass replacement than pay for a screen protector and case. I like nude phones
Well who would have the copyright of the things that dall e creates. The user, or the creator, or even Dall e itself?
In Europe Apple doesn't only meed to change the iPhone to USB-C. That (proposed?) law says all consumer electronics need to go USB-C. So, yeah also airpods and so on
I love small phones, I am still hanging on with s9.
I agree with the 5G stance. I don't have it, and I have absolutely no issues with LTE.
And I'll think that sucks if Netflix puts ads on their basic tier.
i miss small phones...
You keep mentioning the show notes. Where do I find them?
Awesome video 🔥🔥
A small pixel 7 is all I would like in my life
forget that... I used the outside screen more than the inner on my Fold. Inner is good when im sitting down to watch content
The editing is so slay 🔥🔥🔥
I went from the iPhone 7 Plus to the Bassline iPhone 12, small enough for me especially since most of the 7 space was bezels. I use swipe down reachability a lot still tho
Can we get a petition to bring back the sidekick?
Hi MKBHD Team. You guys mentioned the Kendrick album last week and wanted to ask if you guys listened to the new Bad Bunny album (:

@@Adamlukas same. Titi is 🔥
@@gumerzambrano oh for sure..that’s the summer banger pulling up to the red light with the windows down 😅
I would love an iPhone mini pro
Here in Paraguay, 4G only gets to like 80Mbps, if you are standing still near a cell tower, otherwise it is terrible, so no I don't see 5G as a must have, not yet at least.
My dad wanted the mini, until I showed him the battery life, and how small the keyboard was lol
Small Percentage ≠ Small Number
i'm interested in small phones but not in flagship phones. I have nord ce and its 6.5 inches and its too big for me.
