So I recommend journalling before bed. It gets all your thoughts out. And THEN meditate. Usually people who jump into meditation, that's the only time they are just sitting with their thoughts. If you empty your mind first, then you can focus on your breath. It's easier to start with guided meditations, like the ones on youtube, because it's not just complete silence. A bit more active. Paired with some yoga, it gets you into a chill zen vibe.
I've stopped using my phone/laptop one hour before going to bed for the past two weeks, and it's been fantastic. Instead of watching UA-cam/Reels/Netflix, I now read a book or do anything else that does not involve a screen. Now I sleep better and feel better when I wake up. And having a morning routine definitely helps, as it keeps me from using my phone first thing in the morning.
Some tips about reducing screen time: At night: 1. Turn your phone to grayscale at night. 2. Turn on focus mode in digital wellbeing in which you can block some apps or only use a few essential apps. General: 1. Turn all non-urgent notifications off. (Only turn on calls and messages basically) 2. Uninstall or disable all useless apps. 3. Leave your phone at home if you do not need it when you are going out. Tip to reduce strain on eyes: 1. As mentioned in the video, use blue light filter from sunset to sunrise. Most phones have some sort of night mode in them. 2. Hold your phone farther from your face. Try to keep it at arm's length.
The night routine is also hard for me. But the morning routine is a bit easier. It's easier to wake up and stay away from your phone when you have plans in the morning, like working out...
Night mode really works for me… I know it looks weird, makes your pictures and other stuffs looks different, but in return it protects your eyes soo much. You’ll not believe but I’m right now at max night mode setting on my iPhone 😂. Happy New Year ❤
Sleep advice: One thing that helped me sleep better was working out in the morning. I have a day job that involves sitting at a desk for 8/9 hours and then on top of that I like to play games so using that extra bit of energy in the morning not only helps me feel more pumped throughout the day but also fall asleep faster because I've spent more energy. Also reading before bed and just chatting with my partner have made me go from 1hour to fall asleep to like 5-15min depending on the days.
@@keepitfashion Hahah damn it, I realize my wording probably wasn't the best! I meant it more as a way to do something "engaging" that's not looking at the screen. Some people find it boring/hard to read books before going to bed but maybe chatting with someone (like your partner) for the last hour before going to bed can be something more entertaining :D
So I got recommended listening to a live gong soundtrack on loop as I sleep. At first my mind would race sleeping but by the third night I started to be able to sleep immediately and wake up feeling refreshed. Now I usually wake up right before my alarm goes off. The sounds are now triggers to put my phone away at night when the track starts to play.
About using your phone causing worse eyesight- Marques is correct, looking at something super close to your face causes strain on your eye muscles which could lead to poor eyesight. Try the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes look at something that's 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. And don't forget to blink, people tend to blink less when looking at a screen. Blue light filters, greyscale mode at night, and blue light blocking glasses are great and all, but it's the act of going on your phone and scrolling through social media, getting that instant jolt of temporary happiness. It's better to just not use the social apps on your phone around your bedtime. Listen to some music or read a book or something. Also, to sleep faster and not lay on the bed tossing and turning for the next 2 hours, here's what you gotta do- get in a comfortable position and try to think that you are sleeping, relax every muscle in your body. And probably the biggest one for caffeine dependant people. Try not to drink coffee after 12:00 pm -1:00 pm.
I have a loud noisy fan on all night, not for the breeze but the white noise it helps both me and my dog not listen for creaks and noises subconsciously.
Easiest way for me to not look at a screen before bed is that I listen to a soothing podcast before bed, in a dim room.. or I have a playlist of calming jazz music that I have conditioned myself like Pavlov's dogs to just pass out by the 3rd or 4th song... If not the podcast, the music works like 90% of the time.
I also work out at night because I am NOT a morning person and I couldn’t fathom getting up any earlier than I do now to get to work by 7 AM. I try to drink a glass of water as one of the first things I do when I wake up. Rehydrate! I also can’t fall asleep quickly at night and I hate it. Lifelong struggle.
As a person who constantly wears glassed due to not having the best vision would love for tech companies to incorporate some new lenses into those smart glasses. I am not a watch guy, let alone a smart watch, but I can totally see myself using the smart glasses paired with a phone but only if I can actually see everything around + some notifications, navigation, and other apps that a smart watch would provide but optimized for glasses.
You had a good point until you said other apps that a smartwatch would provide. Putting things like ESPN scores, workout and a camera preview would be way harder while still being able to see everything around you
Great podcast guy’s really good.Great question about sleep as well wen’t right into comments to see what everyone says.Thank you and I think many people go through same.Deb 👍✌️
Shots of tart cherry juice before bed. Vitamins with breakfast. I'm liking the hour of no phone before bed and after I wake up. Maybe I try splitting the hour into 30/30 AM/PM
I am not dependent on Melatonin but it helps maintain my schedule of falling asleep, it is worth it for building habits. The eye strain part in the morning in my case turned out to be due to bad neck posture and massaging it, using the right pillow etc helped ease that. Additionally my work requires looking at a screen so using artificial tears as a supplement to better regulating blinking is helpfull
Additionally the stopping of phone usage before bed I found easy to do when I investigated the natural time for my body to fall asleep, which is much earlier than I anticipated. Due to already being sleepy at an earlier time (around 10 pm) basically fixed a lot of issues, provided I stick the schedule. No phones, no movies, no coffee or sugar or other stimulants like alcohol, keeping the right gap between dinner and sleep, a lot of this depending on your body can help improve the situation. It's a combination of things, not a single solution. For example when I miss my natural bed time I end up using my phone or tablet until the next cycle kicks in, which is usually 4 hours after the first time for me
About the shopping AR thing: even if the tech is there it’s in the store’s best interests to not apply it. They put time and effort into designing their layouts in such a way as to maximise your impulse buying in the same way UA-cam structures their feed to maximise your watch time. Any app or glasses would just blow through all of that and you’d only buy what you need. Which means the stores would absolutely not help make layout maps, and personally I don’t think open source mapping would be a realistic solution
Try to sleep less. I came down to my 5.5 hours sleeping schedule - 3am - 8:30am. It takes few months to get used to, but after your body adjusts, you are pretty sleepy, when you’re going to bed, so you fall a sleep immediately, and, because it’s a schedule (that’s important - same time every day) your body is ready to wake up in the morning, so you feel better. I’m doing it for 2 years already 😉
I always find that I listen to a specific music playlist and after a while my mind gets triggered with those songs and immediately gets tired... Also it is a playlist on UA-cam music called ladies serenading you too sleep. Really good playlist by the way. I do get tired sometimes if one of the songs played randomly
Go to sleep with your phone not at your side like accross the room or something, I have my Google speaker as an alarm and tbh it's perfect all you gotta do is say "stop" and the alarm goes off, no "get Google" I put a timer on some apps as well.
Hey 👋 As Adam said, even I do meditation before going to bed. So not get distracted by anything else, in the starting times, I use to chant God's name so my mind is not thinking something else. LOL come to SF where you drive down 16 city blocks super annoyed that you can't make a left without making 3 right turns instead. And even then you might end up on a dead end or a one way street. It's not as bad as Boston but if you live in the Bay Area it's incredibly frustrating and is a huge reason why I just don't even drive in SF. Oakland is a lot better. Both cities have a lot of car break-ins, especially SF...as noted in Mark Rober's latest glitterbomb video.
@MKBHD My solution to sleeping is having a TV show running at a low volume (hear me out). When I try and sleep my brain will not shut up so i try to focus on one thing to calm my self down but that doesn’t always work. So what I do now is turn on a tv show that I know really well, like The Office or New Girl (something kinda chill), and try to focus on the show. I turn the volume down low enough to barely hear and turn my back to the TV bc of the glow and I’m usually asleep within 10 to 20 min. I’m basically using the TV as background noise and I’ve tried using apps that make background noise in the past but it’s never worked for me. Hope this helps
Wake up at 5am. No exercise one hour before sleep but at 5am- yes. Meditation. No phone one hour before sleep. Give yourself 3 months. and no pressure, just stick to it. 45+ yrs old guy ;-)

Having a kid will reduce your screen time at night down to a minute! :D They drain you during the day, when you put them to bed and prepare yourself, you will fall asleep within 5 minutes flat! :)

Good luck with rolling blackouts in an electric car. Hybrids are the way to go.

Tesla's auto drive SHOULD be tested in India 😂
Bet it won't survive... Nd I'm taking bout like village roads, nd small roads
😂😂😂😂😂
I don’t think that qualifies as a road I would call it a street u could walk on but not drive at all (I live in India)
@@Oxyteck lol tbh kinda true. But driving in India I know fr sure is hard as hell. Like imagine letting your Tesla selfdriving in a road or Street with children running, cows slowly crossing, nd dogs chasing you when ppl are overtaking in a small road/street
@@Oxyteck nd I don't mean any disrespect for India. It's an amazing rich spicy country 😂
🇮🇳
@@tealcupcake1738 yeah I didn’t take any I know feel it as I am just now learning driving a car
What's your favorite prison phone?
I play animal crossing. It puts me to sleep within 15 minutes. The monotonous gameplay is akin to a textbook, just more fun.
