      For a Samsung user.....
      Samsung's reminders app.
      1. Natural lang processing (It's pretty great).
      2. Location based reminders.
      3. Checkboxes and images can be added.
      4. Sync (can use Samsung account or Microsoft TODO)
      5. For an attachment or a more rich text related stuff, you can use Samsung notes (which is amazing btw) and add it to a reminder.
      6. Has widget support.
      7. Supports categorizing your reminders.
      8. It's Free.

This episode amused me on several levels. I had to laugh at myself because after a lifetime since high school having been immersed in the IT world, from IBM mainframes in the 70s on, I now find myself at 74 writing physical notes to myself constantly. I have little pads on my desk, in the kitchen and my outside table where I have my nightly glass of wine. LOL. The other thing I found amusing is you guys reminded my of a Seinfeld episode in that you just did an entire show about the most mundane activity there is, how to remember stuff, very nerdy but very amusing. Well done and thanks.

They're talking about the clean home screen and I want to yell into the video that with ticktick (not sure of others but could be there as well and equally or more helpful depending on it's other features) you can have the to do list widget AND set it to a level of transparency so you can see your wallpaper and your tasks basically just look like they are written on it. The less you have to do the cleaner your home screen will be. For me it ensures that every time you see the home screen it both looks good and constantly reminds you of what needs done or is upcoming. I think it would be a pretty perfect set up for him as I have the same "single clean home screen" desire.

The benefit of the alarms as task/event reminders is that the alarms notify via full-screen takeover, where the alarm has to be dismissed, and the audio is loud and continuous, regardless of whether or not the device's ringer is silenced. I wish iOS allowed 3rd party apps to send those alarm-style notifications.

Andrew’s alarm based task management system always sounded horrifying to me but hearing about it in detail it makes more sense.
I have ADHD and was pretty disorganised. I started using Tick Tick (actually after hearing about it from Marques in a previous episode). It is really good. What I like is that you can keep your system as simple or complex as you like. If you want to use, pomo or focus timers, Eisenhower Matrix, habit tracker, etc. It is all there, but if you don’t, you can just hide it and use the parts you do use.
The only thing I hope they add is 2-way sync with Google Calendar.

So much about this episode I can relate to and I'm so glad I'm not the only person who switches apps, has the same complaint about the tick tick calendar, and spends a ton of time - invests a ton of time - into setting up a task list to test it out. This was great and a good laugh. I use Mac for work, Windows at home, have an iPad, and use an Android phone so cross-platform is a must. I do really like tick tick at the end of the day. I use Notion for just about everything and had the task list in Notion for a while but the friction to add a new task in notion was too much (when compared to tick tick). This was a lot of fun, keep productivity content coming!

I'm gonna defend Andrew on using alarm clocks as a planning tool. Most planning apps and to-do lists aren’t very effective when it comes to notifications. Sure, they remind me when I need to do something, but it’s more like a soft nudge, so subtle that I almost always ignore it and quickly forget the reminder altogether. Alarm apps, on the other hand, are relentless. It's like someone shaking me, shouting, "Get to work, dumbass!"-and it doesn’t stop until I make it. Planner and to-do list apps send a single, calm notification, which just doesn't work for me. Never has. Never will.

This was funny. I work just like Andrew. Alarm and calendar is all I use😂. Critical one-time or repeating goes on the alarm. All else go on the calendar. I haven't gotten to watching the end of this episode yet, but I'll see what you suggest to Andrew later. COOL🤙🏽

After watching the rest of this episode, I realized I do use Keep, but for static lists only (recipes, names, grocery shopping, procedures). A couple other requirements are FREE!, and it can receive events from others (as in group scheduling). In general, the process I tried to copy is my work process, which is in Microsoft Outlook. Outlook does all of this easily, but I would NEVER buy Outlook for home use. GREAT EPISODE!

This is so helpful to hear that I’m not alone. I literally have moved everything from Apple calendar to Google calendar from Apple reminders to Google tasks from default Apple Maps to Google maps to Apple files to Google Drive. I just I’m constantly experimenting with how I feel with these productivity apps, it’s crazy. I’ve settled on Apple mail Apple reminders Apple calendar only because it gives me anxiety to look at too many apps on my phone.

Hey, I know it’s late and I don’t know if anybody will see this but when Andrew was talking about having eight or nine things to do during the day and one of them taking a long time and stressing over not finishing them I relate strongly! What changed me is atop five list. It is things you have to do today in a order of priority if you want, but then you cross them out as you go and it’s very satisfying. On top of those five is extra productivity, and sometimes when I’m feeling like I need a little boost, I put an easy task on there like make the bed so I can cross it off.

  • @MannyHaarp

Great episode! It got me to use tasks. Something I hit a brick wall with... You can't create a "shopping list" in tasks and have Assistant add things to it via voice. It will only add them to keep. So to get around this you either paste the things to the Tasks app manually or just say "hey google, remind me to buy eggs, milk, cheese etc" and it will add it to the main Tasks list on the tasks app.
It's beyond me how this isn't possible with Assistant, but I'm not surprised at the same time 😅

22:25 yes Google messages does do that. It gives you the option to add it into your calendar.

For Google Messages App, I did remember it does that. Not sure if it's a bug now, but it does show me the option to create an event, and routes me to Google Calendar, but it does not populate the details itself nor I can choose the Task option, because it redirects me back to Google Messages if I click on Tasks.

The biggest advantage of an alarm is that it keeps ringing loudly nonstop until you interact with it. And if you snooze it, it will ring again later until you dismiss it. These to do list apps only make small notification sounds that you can easily ignore and forget in 5 minutes.
The advantage of humans reminding you is also a plus because they know when that a deadline is approaching and know how much time you have left depending on the time, other tasks you have to do, and how large the task is. For example, make sure you buy the groceries before the store closes, or mow the lawn before it gets dark, or cleaning your room will take a while so you better start it early. A person also reminds you of how to group your tasks such as when you drop off the mail, make sure the stop by storage and pickup supplies, or when you buy cheese in the dairy section, take a look to see which ice cream is on sale.
You also have to get into a good habit of always looking at your to-do app. Otherwise, it will be completely useless if you never check it. This seems to be what happened with him using google keep and his grocery list. He wrote it down but never checked it. The app should have a feature to like a timer, reminding you to open it from time to time, especially if you don't have any scheduled tasks. This way you don't forget about them.
If to do list apps could do these it would be really helpful.

for me as a student, I mostly use Apple Calendar, it's simple , easy to use , syncs pretty fast. and most important is that if u flip the iPhone in horizontal view it will change to weekly view and u can just drag and drop things. I use it to add anything : reminders, events , study tasks , people birthdays , a movie I wanna watch later ...etc , u can set a calendar to each of these categories. u can ask Siri to add an event. i think the main downside is if u have other devices from other companies & it doesn't have a list where u have the satisfaction of checking todos
