Just bought the 3.5 inch newer version ($20 more but worth the extra thickness I think) and arriving next Tuesday! All because of your charm. Was just using blankets lol but had been thinking of just using a Tatami but on the fence. Then I come upon your funny and charming video and was sold. I think I'll be very happy I'm sure I will since its all in one instead of my multiple blankets. More structured and easier to fold into couch. Thanks!
@@judylloyd7901 thanks, the ragret is actually a reference to a movie scene but also sometimes I like to spell things wrong on purpose bc it’s funny lol
I bought the exact same mattress from Amazon 3 months ago. I gave away my new bed and mattress because I was waking up in more pain then I went to bed with. I love it! I'm 50 and doing so much better on the floor. My back and joints are so much happier. It was really hard to get up at first, now I jump right up no problem. For those older folks who think you could never sleep on the floor, it might be the thing you need.
Oh this is so great to hear!!! I’m glad that it has worked so well for you! It’s crazy to think these fancy mattresses could be the thing causing us even MORE pain! Thank you for sharing your experience!
I’ve slept on a futon for the last 5 years and I’m sixty two. I tried it because I was aching all over and my back was bad and I wasn’t about to accept the fact that I was getting older. Oh no. It was hard the first week or two but it soon was brilliant. I don’t have aches and pains anymore and I love it. I just make sure I roll it up everyday and air it outside about once a week.
This is so great bc it shows that even as an older person it’s something worth considering bc perhaps it’s just what is needed to remedy lingering aches and pains! Thanks so much for sharing your experience!!
I think if you have some type of Tatami mat or other medium to allow air flow, that can help with any potential moisture issues between carpet and futon
At 58 I've developed spinal disc issues and I've slept on a plush bed for years (not the cause but doesn't help). I'm now being pushed into something more healthy. Desperate to find alternatives because the pain is just to much now. Just as I was watching this video I ordered the zonli she got but the 3.5" version. One thing I also realized is that at our age we need movement to stay healthy. Having to get up and down from the floor will be like doing squats. I'm going to make it a habit of doing a couple squats and then downward dog pose and then slide into the floor. And when getting out do a few squats and maybe I'll just start my daily yoga right off instead of having coffee as I tend to do.
I would get tatami too becasue traditionally futon(means bedding in general) doesn't go directly on the floor. It's more prone to mold and dirty that way and speaking for experience the cold floor will transfer straight through it into you making you stiff and without that insulating buffer. They make thinner folding or roll up tatami/goza if you don't want the traditional rigid tatami ones. The tatmi also smell like hay which is nice. Plus it is common to double or even triple up shikibuton becasue of how thin they are. Also I wouldn't worry about trying to put it back in the bag, it's good to roll or fold them to fluff them daily and leaving it out or in a closet lets it breathe(depending on what the bag is made of it might prevent air flow) . OOH Remember to put it out in the sun as often as you can....or remember to.
Thank you!! Yeah I am still doing research about the tatami mat but wasn’t a fan of rigid ones bc I liked the clear floor in the morning, I will look into the folding ones as you mentioned! And yeah putting it in the bag got old fast so I actually just have been rolling it into thirds against the wall lately. Thanks so much for your insights!!
@@natashatheresa You can go for jute / natural material rugs instead of tatami that is expensive. They can be folded / rolled just like a futon and are washable too. @crocket is correct, the mattress needs airing, best is to put it in sun twice or thrice a year. If not possible is put it on the banister/railing in the stairs as a weekly/monthly routine. Please don't get me wrong but it was very difficult for me to concentrate on this video coz of excess and hyper paced scattered talking without a single pause. I always think all of us aspiring minimalists need to bring minimalism in all aspects of their life, not just material ones but virtual ones like thoughts, planning, daydreaming, worrying. Speech is one of them as it also needs decluttering, organising and curating. A curated and concise monologue with calm tone oozes the point one tries to make while advocating minimalist lifestyle, else it just feels too contrast as pleasant visuals do not match chaotic hearing overload. Sincerely sorry if it hurt you. But I feel you have potential to grow as a youtuber and this aspect of video making will help you retain and gain more viewers. 🙏🙏
@@RTAV108 I appreciate your constructive criticisms. I am definitely not hurt at all, but I appreciate you considering my feelings. For me, I like to save time by cutting out dead space and keeping things moving, but there are definitely times the dialogue needs to breathe, I can agree on that. My videos actually used to be twice as long but less engaging lol. I am very familiar with the types of minimalist videos that you are describing, as that is what is mostly expected and is considered mainstream. However, this is my true self and me trying to to water down myself would not be a reflection of who I really am. I have fun with life, I don't take myself too seriously, and UA-cam allows me to be more of myself. The thing I love about embracing minimalism in my own way is that, thanks to removing distraction in other areas of my life, I am able to find time to pursue my creative passions such as UA-cam. I love making people laugh and being relatable. I love knowing that I have put a smile on people's faces. I won't vibrate with everyone who watches though, and I am not trying to do so. I'm okay if I'm not adhering to the mainstream. But the great thing about UA-cam is there's really room for everyone to find their tribe. I'm very thankful that I have been able to find 4000+ people to vibe with me so far. I definitely see where you are coming from, and will take it into consideration, but at the same time, I will continue to stay true to my most authentic self. Thank you love.
Thank you so much for being so receptive and open. Yes I could sense the light and fun vibe in your videos and I found it delightful n unique ✨️ You are right, I didn't mean to ask you to compromise on spontaneity. ❤❤
I personally got gymnastics mats to put under mine because I'm into fitness and they can pull double duty when I'm not sleeping. Normal tatami mats are big and heavy and single purpose, and at some point your bed system is just another massive thing in the room, not much different than a normal mattress on the floor. Half the appeal of Japanese futons is that. you can fold them up and put them in a corner and have the floor space for activities, in my case, yoga and fitness stuff, hence the gym mats.
Just noting to people. If you have a bed set up say in a basement space or somewhere with moisture, and you don’t move that floor bed enough there is risk of mold.
Yes thank you for sharing this I shall pin!!! I’ll also include that in an update video! I’m still debating if I will also buy a tatami mat to help with the air flow but I am currently moving my bed around a lot so I think im ok for now!!!
tatami mat or just fold into couch when not in use which would mitigate any air flow issue. They actually make really nice tatami mats that are infused with tea or such and adds a nice scent. Plus these types of mats are very light. not like full cotton filed futons so very easy to lift to air out.
@@robodd4694 thanks yah I got a tatami mat in my update video! And I stopped trying to stuff it in a bag, it’s a couch during the day now hahaha. Thanks Rob!!
You absolutely need to commit when you're trying floor sleeping. It's not something to try for a week. You need time to adjust. It's also super important to make sure your pillows are the right height if you're a side sleeper. Just remember that our species literally slept on the hard dirt outside for hundreds of thousands of years. We're built for it, but modernity has made us soft. So expect it to take time.
Plus it has only been within the last 100yrs+ that we actually started using spring/plush type beds. Pre-1800's (and even pre-40's most people slept on thin straw filled mattresses (or cotton) but they were cheap thin things. My Gran slept on a very thin straw "mattress" and she grew to be close to 100 and was super fit. Having to get up and down from the floor made her strong. I try myelf to make it a mini exercise each morning and nite. Like doing a couple of squats than a dog facing downward yoga pose and then just slide into bed..
I sleep on the floor regularly... I use a 3" latex foam topper and a sleeping bag, right on the floor. My big motivator for this is the "use it or lose it" concept... I love camping, which requires sleeping on the ground, right? I also have back problems- degenerative disk disease, and other wonderful spinal maladies. I found that when I slept on a regular bed, my back pain was worse, and I couldn't sleep on the ground (ie, camping). Now I do Dr. Stuart McGill's "big three" exercises for spinal stability, and I sleep on the floor. I love it! My back feels better than it did 10 years ago, and I'm 50. I will probably never sleep on a traditional bed again.
Use it or lose it is truth! Im 67. My friends are getting mechanical beds a lot like hospital beds to make it easier to get in and out as they figure they're never gonna be any younger. I gor rid of my bed and plonked my futon mattress on the floor to Force Myself to be More active. Now im starting to look at all these chairs around me.....what do I need all these chairs for when I've got five rooms worth of floors I can sit on?
I am intrigued. I have so much back pain and we cannot find why. I have been praying for guidance and your video popped up in my feed. I cannot believe you are 40!! I thought you were some 20 year old telling me how to fix my back pain and I thought “but you’re 20…” then…🤯🤯🤯. Thank you for giving me something to look into!
Yah def look into it, I do hope it could help, don’t throw your bed out but try for like 2 weeks at least and see how it goes. Someone just told me in my latest video comments they had 2 herniated discs and started sleeping on the floor 2 months ago and now their pain is so much lessened so they can work out again! I wish the same for you!!!
We have so many customers that share similar stories --- most move from regular beds to our Shikibutons [Futons] and have their best sleep ever. Often there is a transition period from 1-3 weeks, though some people just sleep perfect from day 1
in college, all i had the whole time was a small fold up sleeping mat that my grandma made out of three old couch cushions. eventually, i took a section of an old slatted ikea convertible futon and added some hairpin iron legs to it. it was some of the best sleep i ever had. it was easy to move and had a very small footprint
Slept on that same tatami for a few years then upgraded to an actual organic Japanese shikifuton rig and I absolutely love it! Im 60 and have preferred sleeping on the floor because my bed like yours sucked! My current setup was pricy but so worth it! I ordered a "sleep system" which comes with sheets, duvet and a duvet cover. I can confirm sleeping on the floor does so much for your physical and mental health. It's been proven that we fall asleep much faster on the floor but at 60 the floor felt too hard at times with a regular Amazon tatami. Save up and buy a Japanese system. It will last decades if taken care of and your body will prefer it to any bed!❤️
I live on the floor too. I love rooms without bulky soft furniture. My futon is all certified organic cotton. Because it was made to order and I sold my bed as soon as had decided to get rid of it. So I slept on some yoga mats and it was quite hard at first. By the time my futon arrived I thought it was the softest thing and have loved it ever since.
Thanks for sharing!! I had seen that some people sleep on yoga mats and I was like deng that’s really hard core! But that’s awesome in your case bc then when your futon came it was better hahahaha!! Can I ask where’d you got your made to order futon?
i was so fit getting up off the floor all the time then i became unwell (surgery incoming) and i couldnt do it anymore! i cant wait to go back to floor living!!!
I bought a "Dr. Hard" mattress here in Canada and I love it. It supposedly is/was developed for the Japanese market. I am not sure if it is still available but mine is 10 years old and still in good shape. I also lived in Japan for 10 years and got quite used to a floor futon. I do not like pillow top anything but I also like to be comfortable. Dr Hard for me.
This is my first time running across one of Natasha’s videos and I am digging her content! Her personality is really fun and her editing is stellar! I love this kind of trying new things/interior design content. Subscribed!
OMG you're doing furniture free living! That would make for a great video series! There are many cultures that use hammocks or bean bags as replacements for beds and couches. I know Thoughtworthy Co UA-cam channel has inspired many to get rid of the clunky furniture to create a multifunction space around the home.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Diana you're a GEM! Thanks for sharing and also giving me some ideas on future videos ❤️. It's funny b/c i was JUST researching what my options would be if I wanted to get rid of my desk and office chair LOLLLL
Spending a prolonged time in a hammock(as in sleeping) or bean bag WILL destroy your lower back and give you herniated disc and pinched nerve eventually. I'm cautioning you from experience. It is NOT healthy to sit or lay with your back/spine in a curved "C" position for prolonged periods of time, it will stretch out the ligaments in your lower back and give you slipped disc in spine. I've sat in a soft foldable disc chair for several years and now I'm paying the price with my back issues and I'm only in my 30's. Please PLEASE be careful, you will remember my words once you start suffering.
I am recovering slowly, thank you. I found the McKenzie Method and it's really helping! There is a doctor that really explains back issues and is very enlightening!! I believe everyone should listen to his seminar on this topic, the title of the video is: Understanding Lower Back Pain & Sciatica - McKenzie Institute® , Dr. Yoav Suprun
I had to put my regular mattress, a memory foam one, on the floor for several weeks. I now have it on a platform bed, but I swear the mattress was more comfortable and I slept better when it was just a mattress on the floor.
I got to thank you for this video, it's what convinced me to commit to get a futon. I got mine straight from Japan in a queen size and with sheets and comforter as well. So far it's been two weeks and - oh my god! I'm thirty years old, I've had mattresses my whole life and with my last one I had the tendency to wake up over and over at night to get comfortable again, and it was a twin so it was little space and even more little as my room was so small. Now with my futon, I've slept the entire night! My alarm wakes me up mostly - unless nature calls at night, but even then I fall back asleep so fast! My random aches and pains are gone, and putting my futon away wakes me up in the morning as I move around. I've recently aired it out and sunned it, and it was pretty easy. I've actually starting taking a nap on my floor at times when I'm too lazy to roll out my futon. Speaking of my room, so much more space now! I can move so well! It's great! Thank you for the video again!
OH my goodness this is soooo great to hear! Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm sooo glad that you are getting the best sleep of your life now LOL. I too love having additional room, and then just being able to easily reposition my minimal furniture since the bed is gone. Again, so happy for you YAYYYYY
Tasha, you flipping out of bed in the morning is the bomb! 🤣 It makes a lot of sense that we should be doing low squats to stay mobile. I never thought about it before. We are 60 now and boy has our mobility slowed down in the last few years! I think you may be on to something here. Loved this video! ❤
I had a futon mattress with a frame and then after moving, disassembling the frame, and then having a baby I decided that if she were to roll off the bed at least she would already be on the floor so no big deal. I have slept on the floor for years. I actually do enjoy having more room in my bedroom. Plus with a mattress that can be folded up it makes life and any future moves so much easier no bulky weight, no having to figure out how to get a mattress up stairs. Great decision. I think you will like sleeping on the floor in the future too. Plus my back feels so much better too. You could get a camping sort of memory foam to put under it for a bit more cushion. I use that.
This is so true! Honestly when my kid got too big for a crib and seemed to want to climb out, I put a futon mattress on the floor and he slept on that for several years hahahaha! Yeah floor sleeping has been great so far so I def see myself keeping it up!
I was stationed in Japan for a total of 11 years off and on. I noted that a lot of Japanese traditional chairs were lower to the ground than ours. I also used a futon in Japan for a while. You can also buy a frame to raise the futon slightly higher off the floor.
I don't know why UA-cam recommended this... but i was just looking at cot mattresses on Amazon an the internet. I've been on my own floor mattress journey
I'm so glad to have stumbled on your video! We're transitioning to "furniture free"/floor living too, although we started in our home office. After watching all of Movementum's UA-cam videos and browsing r/floordesks on Reddit, I replaced my office desk and chair with a 12.5" high coffee table and 3" high buckwheat meditation cushion. Our mattress and bed frame will be next!
Glad to have you here!!! I literally just got some 8" desk legs to add to my desk and make it 12.5" high... I'm still waiting for them to arrive but... will show it in an upcoming video! I have only watched Thoughtworthy Co's videos so far but will check out Movementum's b/c I've seen them floating around too! I really feel like there's something to this furniture free living thing, which I didn't even realize was a thing until recently HAHAHAHAHA
You are so fun!!! I think it’s important to be able to get up and down from the floor too…we have a couch but I always sit on the floor anyway! I like the floor bed idea too…but my husband wouldn’t!!! I can’t wait to hear an update!
Thanks for watching Kellie!! Yeah I really am not missing my couches at all lol! I already have so much material for an update but yeah I will wait a few months hahahahha
I have spent thousands of dollars on several beds in my lifetime only to suffer the worst sleep ever that was created in my neck, back, shoulders etc. I bought a Japanese Shikibuton floor mattress and my quality of life improved 100%. I slept like a baby. I slept deeper and more comfortable. Pretty soon all the pain in my shoulders, neck and back disappeared. I will never go back to sleeping on an American mattress or any other mattress that is designed as so. I find set the Japanese Shikibuton is thick enough for comfort but thin enough to allow you to have that positive pressure from the floor itself. I wont ever go back. The Best sleep ever. On top of that, you can fold it up and put it in the closet or let it be a floor couch. My next move what's the minimize in the kitchen. Goodbye huge table with heavy chairs. Now I have a lightweight portable table. I have straw cushions. 🙏💖
Great video! Really enjoyed watching it. I've been sleeping on the floor for 6 months so I enjoy watching others too! Crazy how all of these mattress companies screw us over
Hiii if no one has mentioned it yet, please get some tatami mats for your shibikifuton. It'll keep moisture from building up in the japanese mattress while you're sleeping on it. Try to get the ones that are 2ish inches thick!
Thank you!! I’m currently researching this bc I’m not sure if I want to have one permanently on the floor… I was looking into the ones you can fold up but you are saying I should get a thick one? Currently I’m just making sure to put it in the sunlight each day
Those tatami mats are ROCK hard. I’ve used the traditional ones. I’d rather the futon on the floor (floorboards) than the tatami mat. It was weird. It felt more comfortable on the ground than those things, but that’s likely more me.
I used to Fulton mattress, i bought the bed just 2 months i suffered for back. Right now, i ordered another Fulton Japanese mattress . I slept on the floor, never dealt with low back pain. Our comfort are killing us
Woah - Entertaining! I sleep on the floor with a 4" cotton filled mattress ( not evenly dispersed anymore) My wife bought a j life full mat and started sleeping on it because the memory foam mattress was too hot. Yesterday I tried cutting our old (king) mattress to make some furniture /take up less space and ended up with a room full of fiberglass. SO that bed is gone and we're both on the floor full time now. Crazy how Sunk Cost Fallacy works. 7 years on a mediocre bed, because it's "good enough" - happy you were able to make the change =)
Oh yes that’s what it’s called - Sunk Cost Fallacy!! It’s crazy bc when I was making the video I mentioned it to my friend and they were like oh I have a (insert name brand) bed and I spent a few thousand on it. And I’m like wow so then how do you like it? And he made a face and said…. It’s okay….. We really want to love these mattresses bc we spend so much on them but I’m feeling like the mattress industries are just making $$ while we getting old and rickety lolllllllll Thanks for dropping by and sharing your experiences!!! Sorry about the fiberglass lol!
You will definitely keep floor sleeping! I still have a four inch trifold memory foam mattress that I started with, and sometimes I feel like I need more cushioning after the inevitable poor nights sleep, or when I'm extra sore from physical exertion. I will pull it out for a night and 100% of the time I wake up with a pain in my neck and uneven hips that require constant attention just to get through the day. Then I go back to my futon mattress the following night and wake up well rested and pain free, vowing never to do that again. I recently had the experience of thinking I may need more cushioning and I kept my vow: no thank you. Anyway, you did a phenomenal job with this video, it's very entertaining and I really enjoyed watching.
Thanks for sharing what works for you! Yeah I will be making an update video soon, I am definitely still on the floor and am happy I don’t wake up with any cricks in my neck like I used to with my purple bed. Glad you enjoyed the video and happy to have you here!
No clue why this was suggested...but are certainly entertaining. 😊 As an older person with inflammatory arthritis in my spine and hips believe me you want to go out of your way to maintain your mobility and flexibility early and often. I can no longer do the floor. Getting up, even the best way taught by my physical therapist resulted in one of my SI joints getting displaced. Hard to get those puppies back in place. 😮 😅 Before this developed I loved the floor. The extra support you get is great. My most comfy place is on the rather hard tables at the physical therapist office. Leave me alone on one for more than 2 minutes and I'm sound asleep. My PT always laughs. Enjoy your floor Sweetie!
I love this comment, certainly entertaining as well hahahahahhahahahhaa! But I’m so sorry about your arthritis 😭😭 Thanks for sharing and so far yes I’m really enjoying the floor!
So cool you heart and reply to all comments. Legend. I totally relate to your experience of sleeping on the floor, the positive effects. I've had lower back pain for 10 years, been through plenty of memory foam mattresses that still bothered my back. Been on the floor for 6 month's minus the back pain.
Hi! I'm TRYING! I will do it for as long as humanly possible, and I love that everyone is sharing their own experiences with me regarding floor sleeping! It's amazing to know it's helping so many people, and I only hope that our experiences can help even more to find relief!!
@@natashatheresa it took my body a few nights to adjust. Funny things is, I realised many more people sleep this way and had similar outcomes of pain relief, better night's sleep, less night time toilet visits, better day time posture and so on. Thanks for sharing your video. It put a big smile on my face. Keep it up.
Funny AND informative, I enjoyed watching this :D I've been wondering myself about trying out the futon... when I was little, for a bit, my bed was on the floor and I remember loving it.
Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I feel like I’m currently in the season of returning to things from my childhood, and it is helping me to stay and feel young again haha
I'm sleeping on the floor for 5 months now and I'm okay with it. I'm using a cheap mattress from Walmart's house brand with an added mattress topper, my back and hips don't hurt as much now and I fall asleep super-fast, maybe there is something to this floor sleeping. You're very funny and I did subscribe hope that helps you out : )
Yes, we had been a long term floor mattress sleepers, just a standard mattress. And then I started sleeping on the floor on some cushions. We went back to a standard mattress and frame for years, and now my husband had me buy , I think it was an RV mattress that he sleeps on the floor on. Our old mattress is shot and you have inspired me to return to the floor!!! Love your videos!😍💗
if you are looking for a good futon maker...please check out Futon Tokyo. they are a company based in tokyo..a old business, that ships world wide iirc and they have very good english customer service. oh also, based on experience, ensure u are sunning ur mattress haha. If u ever plan to get any mattress from the company i suggested, they only make 100% cotton mattresses and those need to be sundried or else it will get moldy. I'm not sure abt synthetic material mattress but something to take note of!
Thank you so much! Maybe I can get them to sponsor a future video hahahahahaha! And yes we are currently sunning this thing each day to help avoid mold. I’m still exploring a tatami mat solution as well. Thanks so much for all the great info!!
I had a Nectar mattress and I hated it. I started sleeping on the floor with two blankets. And my back started feeling better. I now have a 4 inch thick all cotton japanese futon and I'm loving it (however, I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten a 2-inch one.) You do want to sun your futon so bacteria and mold gets killed before they take hold. You can hang a futon in a balcony or do what I'm doing and set it up in a sunny window. I also have a small, portable dehumidifer. It's kind of humid in my apartment anyway and I want to make sure the futon dries out.
Watched because I wanted to confirm (or deny) the comfort of sleeping on the floor. I've done it periodically over my life (61). I have found that not using a pillow maximises the comfort for me---but, I'm a back-sleeper. I used a futon for about 2 years straight when I graduated from university. Why not in university? Because an air mattress was cheaper and easy to manipulate on the 4-foot platform on which I slept (ladder access). I could just move the mattress to face me for whichever corner of the fitted sheet needing doing next. Easy to lift up to tuck blankets. Currently, sleeping on a regular vintage bedframe (had since new, ya know) that has been tilted up at the headboard end by 8.25 inches for GERD symptom reduction. The mattress and boxspring are also vintage, but the bed and accoutrements were not used for at least 23 years after the first 2. So, we have 21 years left of usage. Might not be alive then.
Thanks for sharing this!! I have actually been going back and forth between using a pillow. When I still had the mattress I found my neck was always stiff when I used a pillow so I stopped for a while. Now that im on the floor I’ve been using a pillow but may try a few nights without. Thanks so much for watching!
@@natashatheresa I dealt with this a bit, going back and forth between using a pillow, and have found that having an adjustable pillow can be helpful. I do want to eventually get a really malleable down pillow like the one my dad has had my whole life 😂, but for now the wool pillow I've been using serves me pretty well since I can just take out what I don't need!
I'm always a little cautious around 'this one traditional japanese trick improves your health' but this is something I've been wanting to try for a while. interestingly my indian relatives sleep on the floor in the summer months, not for back health but because it's actually cooler (not being insulated from the ground).
Yeah I found that to be true too with my new setup! I’m now like a month in I think and I am very glad I made the switch. I don’t see myself going back. But everything Japanese that I’ve embraced so far has improved my health for sure whether it’s mentally or physically hahahaha
I've been loving catching up on your channel! Your editing is super entertaining and of course I resonate with the content! Thanks for sharing with us and I'm along for the ride!!
WELL HELLO AGAIN! I used to follow your channel and really liked your videos and your bubbly personality, then ....you disappeared. I stumbled on this video today and see you're back, Yeah! Looks like I have some bingeing to do so I'll be caught up, but thats OK! Lets talk mattress - I can so relate! I bought a new one several years ago from Badcock furnuitre, they called it a delux, was around $500-600. It was fine for about a year, then the aches and pains started. Thought the stiffness in the morning was due to a recent rear end fender bender, so fluffed it off. Well here it is, many years later and even nore stiffness and pain. I'm finally convinced it's the cheap mattress. I have been researching and narrowed it down to either Birch or Avocado, both a bit pricy but both organic. I really appreciate your opinion on the one you purchased. My problem, I'm old with mobility issues and a bad hip, can't get up & down on the floor. Now that I've written a chapter, very glad you're back, look foward to hanging out with you again. Yeah!
Linda Linda Linda I was hoping I’d see you again!!! I have missed you so!!! Thank you for writing me a chapter, it’s so good to hear from you and yes I’m back, and this time I’m giving it my best go!!!
😍😍Yes, I've had a bad mattress and started floor sleeping! it helped so much>. Then we put the mattress on the floor for years, We have gone back to a mattress but my husband has been sleeping on a mat on the floor. You have inspired me to switch again! hehe Love your videos!!
Really enjoyed this video. I've been researching these types of mattresses but haven't taken the plunge yet...i wake up stiff all the time. Most video's I've watched tell a very positive story about sleeping on the floor. Im 63, for sure it gets more difficult getting up but over time i just might be able to do it.
I think yes over time it will gradually become easier for you. I would try it for 2 weeks straight before making any determinations bc for me my first few days were rough but I think it was my body learning to be strong again lollllllll
Love this! Are you guys side, back or stomach sleepers? Also, is that a sleep apnea machine to the left. If so, could you share a bit if you've noticed if it affects your sleep apnea? Thanks!
Hi! I sleep on my back primarily but also my side maybe 33% of the time. My hubby has sleep apnea. He actually moves around less now that we are on the floor, so I feel like he has more continuous sleep. He also has said he feels way more rested each day. I have to agree bc some days I wake up after just 6 hours of sleep and I feel fully rested hahahaha. He recently stayed at a hotel for a week and said the bed just didn’t feel as great as sleeping on our floor lol!
You are awesome! And OMG! Not sure I could do the floor mattress, but I feel you. I spent a fortune on our bed and I hate it! Looking forward to seeing more from you and I believe you'll be on the futon mattress for a while. Not sure about the living room furniture though. Hmmm. Keep us posted.
Thanks Rhonda for watching!! I’m sorry to hear about your bed!! Thanks for having faith in me staying on the floor lolllll!! Yah, the living room - we shall see!!
We got a mattress as an engagement gift…been married 6 years this Nov. I think we are due for a new one as I noticed when co sleeping with kids we all end up rolling towards the middle!
Oh yeah that’s a telltale sign that it’s time!!! But also, that’s amazing someone gave you a whole MATTRESS as an engagement gift what kinda friends/familu you got deng lolllll 😮😮
I've been wanting to try this! I will be interested to see how it goes for you. Also, lately I tried taking a new supplement and I keep thinking "I have so much energy and feel so good, is it the supplement? Or it is just that the sun is finally out and the temperatures are above freezing finally?" lol Spring is tricksy.
Hahahahahahaha it’s probably both!! But sometimes my experience with supplements is it’s a mental thing like placebo lollll!!! But yes I love the sunnnnnnnn and glad to see it more now, that def makes me feel better each day! I shall keep yall updated about how the floor mattress goes ♥️
i used to love sleeping on the floor might give it ago again although it really used to hurt my knees :') but best mattress i have had was from ikea think it was like £150
Okay, so you like it, but how does your husband like the new bed, LOL? I have a similar twin size tatami thin bed that I've been using for years, except I got mine from Amazon for $175 and it doesn't have a protective case, so I think you got the better deal LOL. I got mine for when I go car camping, but started using it as my at home bed, too, about a year ago. Definitely noticed better sleep quality as well.
TLDR; Japanese futon =/= sleeping on floor. I don’t understand why so many UA-camrs have videos of ‘sleeping on the floor’ when technically, they’re not - they’re still sleeping on "something" (low profile mattress, Japanese futon, etc). Anything between the self and floor still offers padding and warmth. Years ago, I went cold turkey, threw out the mattress, and slept directly on cold hardwood floor - felt incredible. Didn’t even use a pillow. Currently, I sleep on an IKEA’s Dragor flat woven rug with a pillow just because I like the design. It matches my decor.
Oh nooooooooo!! Yeah it’s time to try something else out!!! I no longer wake up sore but it def took some time to adjust bc of years of sleeping on sponginess hehehehehe
Im worried about mold from moisture since I live in the humid southeast. A full size weighs 46 lbs so I can’t hang it out. Not sure if a wooden frame with slats and tatami mat would work. Really don’t want the frame though. Thanks for you video.
I’m not sure but I hear tatami on its own helps. That’s what I have now and I haven’t had any issues. But the wood slats sounds good too, and you would still be close to the floor. Thanks so much for watching
this is my first time coming across your channel and i love your personality! you remind me of myself in a way 😂! also what program do you use for closed captions and editing? just curious!
Hi thanks for your kind words and happy you are here! I edit in DaVinci Resolve (free version). For this particular video I used CapCut for the captions but I didn’t like how the video quality changed when I exported it from CapCut and kinda blew out highlights but I didn’t realize until I already uploaded hahahaha… now I just type out plain captions in DaVinci for the first 30 or so seconds lol.
@@natashatheresa Aww of course! You are AH-mazing! Thanks for the info and lolll that’s a good move to do just do it all from DaVinci. I was actually looking into using that for myself and was on the fence. Now I am convinced to use it! Thanks again and keep shining your Light! I am a new subscriber!
Awwwww yeah it’s a big change for sure. Maybe you can buy a little one and see if it works for you lolll, not that I’m saying don’t share a bed anymore but if you do have some back issues maybe you can try it out
Floor sleeping changed my life! Ive been on the floor for a few years and hate it when i go to hotels and have to sleep in a "real" bed 😂 i would recommend checking out Katy Bowmans blog Nutrious Movement for floor living ideas and all the benifits to going furniture free!😊 i would love to see more videos on what you choose to do with your living space going forward!
I am 50/50 side and back sleeper. I only use a pillow when I’m on my side. I made an update video that does a live demo on my sleeping positions if you are interested hahahahah ua-cam.com/video/eb4TihsQek4/v-deo.htmlsi=z8C7kJr7MjyENU6W
Hi Sophie! I sleep on both my back and on my side. The first few nights my hips got numb when I would sleep on my side, but now they don’t anymore. It’s almost like my body hardened up lollll! For more info on floor sleeping, check out Mike Chang’s video about why he sleeps on the floor, it has like over a million views and kinda lays things out better with regards to how our body responds to being on hard surfaces hahahaha!
We got a Leesa (similar to a Purple) in 2016. I loved how soft squishy is was at first, hubby not so much. Now it has permanent indents of our bodies and is pretty uncomfortable, so I flipped it, which you aren't supposed to do, and we are sleeping on the more firm foam at the bottom of the mattress. its ok for now but we need to make a change soon!
We bought a Casper a few years ago and it's been good/fine, but I feel like my work-from-home inactivity is probably contributing to my "meh" feelings that I now have. Either that or I just prefer a slightly softer bed -- I slept like a baby on my brother's air mattress and foam topper when I stayed with them for two weeks, haha! This was all before I started learning about the awesomeness of natural fibers so I'm also a little bummed about that, too, although I think those are even more expensive, so maybe it's just as well! I am definitely intrigued...my husband has talked about low bed frames in the past so who knows, maybe we'll be changing things up soon 😁
Hi, sweetie! When you are living in Siberia (Russia), you couldn't sleep on the floor at the winter because you will feel cold on the floor with the carpet.
✨ Zonli futon mattress: bit.ly/natashaZONLI - use code NATASHA10 for 10% off
Just bought the 3.5 inch newer version ($20 more but worth the extra thickness I think) and arriving next Tuesday! Thanks!
This mattress is a lot more expensive for New Zealand, nearly $500😮
(Btw, it's regret* not ragret 😊😊)
@@judylloyd7901 thanks, the ragret is actually a reference to a movie scene but also sometimes I like to spell things wrong on purpose bc it’s funny lol

As a physical therapist, I advocate for full range of motion for all joints as part of daily life! 👏👏👏
Yes straight from the expert it’s all about preventative maintenance lolllll
This is so interesting to me, thanks for sharing! I might have to look into this for myself but also definitely to see if it would help my parents!
Yes, I'm 73. Been sleeping on the floor four years. I do have a 2" foam pad as I'm a side sleeper.
We have carpet, not wooden floors in our bedrooms. Do you think a futon would be ok on carpet?
Yes I could sense the light and fun vibe in your videos and I found it delightful n unique ✨️
You are right, I didn't mean to ask you to compromise on spontaneity.
Okay cool! My bedroom has good lighting during the day so I can def do that!
tatami mat or just fold into couch when not in use which would mitigate any air flow issue.
@natashatheres
For sure! Yeah it took me a few more days to really be good but I’m glad I stuck with it bc now I no longer am sore when I wake up each morning.
@@robodd4694 I love this, you are so right! Thanks for sharing what works for you!
I’m so glad that sleeping on the floor helped your back issues, that’s inspiring for others who might have similar problems too!
Yesssssssssss this is exactly it!!! I’m looking at all my furniture in my house now and it’s just looking unnecessary and taking up space lollll
Often there is a transition period from 1-3 weeks, though some people just sleep perfect from day 1
It took me a few days but I’m sooo glad I made the transition!!
Do you collaborate with UA-camrs? I’m looking to level up my mattress - Hahahah!
in college, all i had the whole time was a small fold up sleeping mat that my grandma made out of three old couch cushions. eventually, i took a section of an old slatted ikea convertible futon and added some hairpin iron legs to it. it was some of the best sleep i ever had. it was easy to move and had a very small footprint
That is awesome! It’s crazy how some things that are considered non-mainstream actually the best for us hahahahaha
Here’s to positive vibes for your upcoming surgery, recovering ASAP, and getting back on the floor! 🥰🤗

I had to put my regular mattress, a memory foam one, on the floor for several weeks. I now have it on a platform bed, but I swear the mattress was more comfortable and I slept better when it was just a mattress on the floor.
There’s something to it hehehehe!!!

That is amazing! I’m late to the party but happy I’m here lol
I was stationed in Japan for a total of 11 years off and on. I noted that a lot of Japanese traditional chairs were lower to the ground than ours. I also used a futon in Japan for a while. You can also buy a frame to raise the futon slightly higher off the floor.
I would love to live in Japan for a bit! Thanks for sharing your insights!!
I have been thinking about having an extra bed in the house but don't really have any extra space. This is an amazing option!

I love this! So glad it helped improve your health so drastically!
Great video! Really enjoyed watching it. I've been sleeping on the floor for 6 months so I enjoy watching others too! Crazy how all of these mattress companies screw us over
yeah i can't believe how long i bought into it LOLLLLLL. thanks for watching!!!
Our comfort are killing us
Oh gosh! Sorry you just bought the bed, but glad you figured out what was hurting your back!!
I've always perfected the floor. No matter where I've homed, the floor is it! Sleeping in a bed never last long for me.
I wish I had figured it out sooner!! Good on you I love it!!!
Woah - Entertaining!
I sleep on the floor with a 4" cotton filled mattress ( not evenly dispersed anymore)
My wife bought a j life full mat and started sleeping on it because the memory foam mattress was too hot.
We really want to love these mattresses bc we spend so much on them but I’m feeling like the mattress industries are just making $$ while we getting old and rickety lolllllllll
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your experiences!!!
But I’m so sorry about your arthritis 😭😭
Thanks for sharing and so far yes I’m really enjoying the floor!
Keep it up.
@@Irvine_Harper1919 thanks so much! Glad to have you here!
Funny AND informative, I enjoyed watching this :D
I've been wondering myself about trying out the futon... when I was little, for a bit, my bed was on the floor and I remember loving it.
You're very funny and I did subscribe hope that helps you out : )
Thanks so much for subscribing!! Yeah I feel like there is something to it once you get used to it! I appreciate you being here!
Back to the floor we go!!!!! We have to touch base in a few months lol!
if you are looking for a good futon maker...please check out Futon Tokyo.
they are a company based in tokyo..a old business, that ships world wide iirc
and they have very good english customer service.
oh also, based on experience, ensure u are sunning ur mattress haha.
@@natashatheresa a mattress pad actually works quite well xD I just got a normal one from any mattress brand, one less thing to maintain
I really liked my son’s and grandson’s Tuft & Needle bed when I visited them, a really luxe firm feeling and super heavy.
Oh wow! i'm learning about all these other mattress brands that I didn't know about before hahahaha
Thank you for sharing!! Glad you love the futon mattress!
Hi!! I recently bought a 2 inch futon and am debating buying a 4 inch one. What makes you think you should have gotten a 2 inch?
The "egg logic" had me on tearing up.
It is great marketing.
Hahahaa right?!?
I tried to talk Meredith into getting a floor bed couldn't get it done lol
Hahahaha!! Thanks for watching!
Perhaps just a lower bed frame to start? 😉
I've been loving catching up on your channel! Your editing is super entertaining and of course I resonate with the content! Thanks for sharing with us and I'm along for the ride!!
I appreciate you and am glad you are enjoying the content :)
Thank you for writing me a chapter, it’s so good to hear from you and yes I’m back, and this time I’m giving it my best go!!!
also I hope you find some relief in a new and better mattress for your needs!!!
😍😍Yes, I've had a bad mattress and started floor sleeping! it helped so much>. Then we put the mattress on the floor for years, We have gone back to a mattress but my husband has been sleeping on a mat on the floor. You have inspired me to switch again! hehe Love your videos!!
Hahahahaha hey you I got more than just emojis comments this time I love it lol! Thanks for being here and glad you liked the video!!
It may help you actually to become more sprightly over time as you will build up those muscles again :) but I am not a medical professional haha
Thanks, I know it's been couple months since this video but are you still enjoying it?

Thank you!!
Looks great! You are going to be the best version of yourself! I am thinking of it myself. Our bed is too high!
Yah let me know if you end up trying it out!!! 🥰🥰
I feel that logic of getting as much suffering out of a product as possible

omg this channel is brilliant

Your video is so well done. You are fun and informa tive.
Thank you!!! Glad you are enjoying the content!
i used to love sleeping on the floor might give it ago again although it really used to hurt my knees :') but best mattress i have had was from ikea think it was like £150
oh i hope that if you try it again your knees won't give you any trouble!!
He does like it too! He actually used to sleep on a futon mattress on the floor during his childhood so he’s got more experience than me lol!!
That’s amazing - Thanks for sharing!!
I wake up every day sore on my $1k mattress! I'm only 36! It's already on the floor so this is super intriguing and I'd love to try it out.
I want to convert to a futon with the tatami mats underneath SO BADLY, but I have a partner who is not on board.
Awwwww yeah it’s a big change for sure. Maybe you can buy a little one and see if it works for you lolll, not that I’m saying don’t share a bed anymore but if you do have some back issues maybe you can try it out
If you need an expensive mattress, futon beds from japan makes great stuff.

How do you feel about YOUR mattress? Holla atcha girl!
@@littleleafy hahahaha I like how you even thought to flip it over, keep getting your moneys worth for now hahahahahaha!
